Mario Kart 8 Deluxe makes a glorious return later this week on 18th March with the help of brand new DLC content. The first lot of courses (eight in total) are part of wave one - forming the Golden Dash Cup and Lucky Cat Cup.
Ahead of the race later this week, Nintendo has asked fans over on Twitter what course they're most excited about. While they've already named some, here's the full line-up:
Golden Dash Cup
- Paris Promenade (Mario Kart Tour)
- Toad Circuit (Mario Kart 7)
- Choco Mountain (Mario Kart 64)
- Coconut Mall (Mario Kart Wii)
Lucky Cat Cup
- Tokyo Blur (Mario Kart Tour)
- Shroom Ridge (Mario Kart DS)
- Sky Garden (Mario Kart: Super Circuit)
- Ninja Hideaway (Mario Kart Tour)
These first eights courses will be part of a much larger distribution over time. All up, there'll eventually be 48 courses, across 12 new cups and six waves. Of course, if you want to play this DLC, you'll need to own the base game and either purchase the Booster Course Pass for $24.99 USD / $32.99 CAN / £22.49 or subscribe to Nintendo's Switch Online Expansion Pack.
Will you be returning to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on March 18th? Comment down below.

Coconut Mall: Return of the King
Coconut Mall is the correct answer
I completely abhor the practice of paid DLC, and maintain that this should have been its own game (Mario Kart All Stars, if you will).
But I'm also so starved for new content in Mario Kart that I may eventually give in, but only once I can grab some eShop cards on the cheap.
I'd be less annoyed if we at least had some assurance that a complete physical edition will follow in late 2023 (which was one of the reasons why I double-dipped in the first place!).
Coconut Mall for me.
insert random hate on the visuals here
...Anyways yeah, curious about the Tour tracks since I never bothered with that game.
Coconut Mall by leagues. Really hoping for Waluigi Pinball, Dino Dino Island and DK Jungle Parkway
This is going to be God tier once all of the Waves have released...holy crap
You’ve been coconut malled! Share this with all your friends to totally coconut mall them!
@Silly_G
Thus far, the only Nintendo-published games I know of that have received an 'all DLC' physical release on the same console are Sword and Shield.
Maybe Cadence of Hyrule counts, but that was the first physical release.
We haven't even seen a physical BoTW + Expansion Pack (Wii U or Switch), Smash Bros + DLC, Fire Emblem/Hyrule Warriors AoC, or Splatoon+Octo Expansion for that matter.
EDIT: Apparently Japan has BoTW and Splatoon 2 and you already commented on that. https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2021/09/zelda_breath_of_the_wild_and_splatoon_2_will_get_new_physical_releases_with_dlc_included_in_japan
I've forgotten pretty much all the tracks from previous games, so in a way, they all feel new and cool.
But yeah, I'm curious to see the tracks from Tour the most, as I want to know what kind of effort was put into that mobile game.
@Silly_G
To be honest, I think they're doing this as a way to give the MK team more time to make a brand new game for the next console. If you look at it that way, it's not that bad. Plus, these tracks could easily appear in the next game's launch roster which is how the series has always been anyway.
@Bizzyb
Right? It's basically the Smash DLC but for Mario Kart.
I picked Coconut Mall but honestly not that great of a first wave really. Thankfully I’m not familiar with hardly any Tour tracks so they’ll feel new to me.
Hoping we see Dk Summit and or Koopa Cape.
I care the most about the Tour courses as I have not played them.
@Silly_G
You argue that it shouldn’t be paid dlc and it should be it’s own game but I’m sure you’d pay much more if it was its own game.
@nukatha I do have a japanese BOTW for switch that comes with the dlcs on cart.
A toss up between the Tour tracks(which will be new to me) and Choco Mountain. I really liked Choco Mountain in N64 and DS version, will be great to have that in HD.
@Realness
Agreed. Waluigi pinball is one of my all-time favorites.
GBA gets my vote!
Coconut Mall is an easy first. Choco Mountain will be cool, too!
Definitely Sky Garden. One of the best GBA tracks.
I’m worried the mobile tracks won’t have the same detail as the console games and really worried they’ll look cheesy and out of place.

...I could keep going, but I don't want NL to ban me for spamming.
Sorry guys, I just...I really like Coconut Mall.
It's my favorite Mario Kart track, and I can't stop obsessively thinking about it like a hopeless lover thinks about his beloved.
I want to make passionate love to Coconut Mall.
STOP JUDGING ME, THIS IS NORMAL HUMAN BEHAVIOR! I'M NOT WEIRD, YOU ARE!
@Silly_G I'm just the opposite. I'd rather keep MK8 alive. It already has some fantastic tracks, it's just that they've gotten a bit stale. Adding new ones is just what it needs.
@BaronMunchausen nah they won't. Having played them extensively I can tell you they fit right into Mario Kart. And from what we've seen with the difference between Sky Garden in Tour and the clips of it on Switch, they'll add a lot more detail into them to make them worthy of the hardware.
@nukatha : I've imported the Japanese BotW all-on-cart release out of fear that it may not come to the West. I suspect that it has since been discontinued (Sword/Shield have also been discontinued, bafflingly enough). Splatoon 2 only includes Japanese on the cartridge, so, I didn't even bother with that.
@Silly_G let me get this straight, you'd rather pay $60/£50 for this game to be packaged up for a 3rd time on a disc (because it will be full price) or even worse the same price for just these 48 tracks than simply pay half that to double the amount of tracks you already have? Or even just not pay any extra on top of the subscription that lets you access all of the retro and online content already? Come on now. There comes a time when you have to stop being stubborn and let go of your principles.
None of them. We need new tracks, not mobile remasters.
Mall! It brings in fun and happiness because of the design and music
Ninja hide away. Easily the best track from tour
@Baker1000 : I'm not subscribed to the rip-off that is NSO, so there's nothing for me to "upgrade" to in the first place. I'd consider it if I could split the cost between seven others, but I don't expect such a large group to honour their end of the bargain in the long term.
Plus, I can sell my existing physical copy of MK8D for close to its original value in the event of an all-on-cart re-release, so that's no problem at all.
And to suggest that I lower my standards at the behest of others is laughable. Forfeiting one's principles is tantamount to having no principles at all.
I’m wanting to see what Nintendo can do with the Tour courses. Real world (kind of) in Mario Kart should be interesting.
Personally I have a special place in my heart for Choco Mountain as it was one of my favorite tracks in MK 64. I'm willing to give the MK Tour tracks a chance even though I never bother with mobile games, but honestly I'm not thrilled that three of the eight tracks in the first wave are from Tour; the disparity of representation comes off as if the entire Season Pass may end up being a way for Nintendo to quickly recycle (and further monetize) a whole bunch of MK Tour tracks as opposed to offering a truly balanced selection of new and upgraded takes on favorites from previous series iterations. If so, I don't think it would go over well with players.
Chocolate Mountain and Skylar Garden are my favorites. Can't wait to play them once I get the Booster Pass next week.
Shroom Ridge. The "traffic" tracks are among my favorites in the series.
Choco mountain and sky garden are great MK tracks! Be excited! Lol
Not excited but I am curious to try out the tracks from Tour.
Once again, I suppose better late than never? I still believe that this DLC should've been introduced way earlier, but I digress.
Coconut Mall is easily the one I'm anticipating the most. It's really just an iconic place that can't be replaced.
Dat Ninja Hideaway, it's awesome.
Paris Promenade is a lovely course. The attention to detail in most of the Tour courses so far have been nice, but Paris is visually nice, a treat to go around and has all the right aspects to be competitive.
Coconut Mall without a doubt. One of my favorite course of all time.
There’s three of my most hated courses there. Good to get em out the way I guess. 😅
I'm excited for all the new tracks, but since I always play this game together with a mate of mine and he absolutely loves Coconut Mall I had to vote that one ^_^
after 908 votes, I fall in the 2% category of people looking most forward to Toad Circuit from Mario Kart 7 from the first wave of DLC courses.
Friday can’t come soon enough
This first set has two categories for me, "Coconut Mall" and, "What were those non-Coconut Mall tracks again?"
I haven't really played Tour, so I'm excited for those tracks to make their debut in the game. I went with Paris Promenade. Otherwise, I would have went with Shroom Ridge over Coconut Mall, as it comes from that fantastic MKDS Flower Cup.
Coconut Mall is the best one here but I'm probably most excited to try the Mario Kart Tour tracks since I never bothered playing that game.
I am truly so excited about having new courses in Mario Kart 8 - I’ve never played tour and have mainly pretended it didn’t exist so I am happy to see them come to MK8 as for me they will just seem like brand new courses. I loved Coconut Mall on the Wii - I presume the Miis have been taken out though in this version?
I really wanna try the tracks from tour cos I haven’t played it at all. £16.49 on cdkeys
For those interested, we got a few new pictures of the courses earlier today and coconut malls visuals have already been updated since the last time we saw it. Theres still plenty of time.
I don't think we need to be worried about the Mobile courses coming to Switch and not looking good... Nintendo wouldn't add bad content to the game.
Also, do the DS and 3DS levels look bad? What about the SNES and N64? Game Boy Advance courses are in the game... do they look bad?! You do realise Mobile is more powerful than all of these....
So what's happening with online play? Will theses courses be on there for selection? And if so, would the dlc be worth purchasing for someone who only plays online
@UltimateOtaku91 yes. And yes.
Mario Kart DS was my favourite game for a loooooooong time, so shroom ridge for me!
Don't know, but the Choco Mountain will finally look pretty and not 1 brown texture like on N64. 😁
They could also add a lot more Amiibo costumes, I mean, since the enhancement on Wii U, about 200 Amiibos came out?
@Silly_G
Should change your name to Solemn_G
@UltimateOtaku91
You don't need the paid DLC or expansion if you only want to play the new courses online.
@Franklin Mr./Ms. G is one of my favourite posters on the site and I would never laugh at his/her expense but I did in fact chuckle, which makes me a big fat liar.
Sorry G. Sorry everybody.
Anyway, to get this discussion on track (THANKS LAKITU), I’m amazed by the number of people who aren’t won over my Cloud Garden’s bop. I can only sort of remember the course (it had clouds in it), but it was the music that got me. I used to put in headphones, start the race, and then just stay at the start line so as not to obscure the music with racing noises. What a tune!
@JR150 I think it may be that Mario Kart 8 acts pretty much as Mario Kart Ultimate and the next Mario Kart ends up being drastically different like how Forza Horizon is drastically different from Forza Motorsport.
Shroom Ridge because I want to hear the remade music
Choco Mountain but the N64 version looks much better.
@AtlanteanMan I agree.
If people knew how amazing Ninja Hideaway is more than just 8% would have voted for that track
I chose Sky Garden. Although I'm looking forward to Maple Treeway as that's one of my favourites.
@mariomaster96 I'm wondering if a lot of us haven't played Mario Kart Tour and that's why there's less votes, am looking forward to trying it out.
@wazlon Haven't played MK Tour either but I looked that track up on Youtube and it looks amazing.
Pretty sure people will love that track
I'm looking forward to the visual upgrade to bring those tracks to Switch level, which is probably not happening
Choco Mountain is one of my favourite MK tracks ever, but it looked better on N64.
Choco Mountain by a mile. Can't wait to get back into MK8.
@Maxz : No worries at all. And I wasn’t expecting such a sweet comment either (I’m a Mister, just to be clear ), so, I really appreciate the kind words.
I’m very much a hardcore physical enthusiast, so perhaps my comments would have been better nestled in the “unpopular opinions thread”. With that said, this is one of very few examples where I most likely will download the DLC, but I’ll hold out for eShop cards to go on sale first, as I don’t have any spares at the moment.
And yes, even if an all-in-one cart surfaces later, I’m all in on that too.
My MK involvement has been spotty over the years - I never played the N64, GBA, 3DS, or Tour games - but looking forward this time to Coconut Mall!
Coconut Mall. It's got such great music too.
I´ll wait to see if the graphics are on par with the base game. So i´ll decide if i´´ll buy or not.
@nocdaes Yeah, I don't get that at all. There are tracks from the SNES in this game, but people are worried about the tracks from a 2020 mobile game looking bad. ??
Coconut Mall is a great track, but as it was just on the Wii version and the graphics still hold up so I can't see them improving it too much, therefore I'm probably most looking forward to Choco Mountain as I have fond memories of that track, but it's not very pretty to look at these days, it will be nice to see it spruced up.
@Maxz
We got to find out SG's gender,
so was totally worth it.

Sacrilege!
@mariomaster96 Mario Kart Wii was the most popular until Mario Kart 8 and Coconut Mall was one of the popular circuits online so that's why it gets more votes 😒.
@Silly_G why? You'd rather pay more money for the same thing? You'd rather pay $60 instead of $25?
I'm the opposite. I thought Party Superstars should have been dlc for the latest MParty instead of a separate cartridge.
@Banjo- I never said that Coconut Mall deserves less votes or that Ninja Hideaway shoul have more votes than Cocout Mall?
I just said that people would be more excited for Ninja Hideaway if the knew how good that track is
Choco Mountain for me.
shroom ridge is ds, not 3ds
@mariomaster96 I was agreeing with you and I put an emoji but I see that everyone gets defensive in here 😅.
My point is more popular, more votes, regardless of quality. Same point as yours 👍.
@Banjo- Ah sorry, I misinterpreted your emoji then (since I don't use emojis myself). I thought you were annoyed by my comment because "Well duh, obviously something like Coconut Mall is more popular than Ninja Hideaway" ^^
@mariomaster96 No problem 😁. I just wanted to share my point. It's like those Nintendo Life rankings where people (and NL) usually put the latest games on top. I think that Ninja Hideaway is very good and I'm a bit tired of Coconut Mall because always got more votes when playing online so I'm not particularly excited about it. Coconut Mall is older but Mario Kart Wii is more popular than Mario Kart Tour on this website. The most popular circuits of the most popular games will get more votes indefinitely but I chose Choco Mountain here. My favourite Mario Kart games are not the most popular: Super, Double Dash and 64.
Coconut Mall
That's...why I'm here.
I'm a sucker for nostalgia, so Choco Mountain.
Apparently Coconut Mall is popular? Huh.
Coconut mall is the the obvious anwser, but i like the look of the paris one.. and wonder who they combined tour’s variants into one track (for those who are complaining about no new tracks.. the tour tracks ar3 basically new, see gamexplains video)
Btw.. something else that gamxplain noticed that the coconut mall on this photo looks improved compared to the previous images.. so that’s nice..
I am looking forward to the courses from Mario Kart Tour being added. I don't play mobile games so I have no experience with these tracks whatsoever. It would be nice if tracks from the Marko Kart arcade games could be added also.
coconut mall was cool, choco mt. don't remember well enough, and the others will be a first for me.
I like how people change their tunes so quick with these mascot racing games:
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: This game had been out for a long time now, why hasn't it got new contents or DLCs yet? [Then when it does have it]. Why does this a game had DLCs it's suppose to be deluxe for a reason.
Chocobo GP: Why do this game had DLCs, it's suppose to be a full game. A new game is not suppose to have DLCs yet.
Disney's Speedster: Why does this game had DLCs? It's not even out yet?
Crash Team Racing remake, Team Sonic Racing, Nickelodeon Racer: We don't talk about these, they're not popular enough.
Make up your mind people. You want a full complete game with no new contents coming or do you want a new game with new contents constantly coming? You can't have both.
I have a soft spot for Mario Kart 64 so normally I'd be most excited for those tracks before all else, but c'mon it's Coconut Mall!!
@TheBigK Same here, LOVE MK64 but....Coconut Mall
@DreamlandGem @TheBigK It's amazing how Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 are still so fun to play. I played all the Mario Kart 64 cups in Mirror mode yesterday and it's still exhilarating and I had played it to death.
@Banjo- So true! MK64 is still SO much fun to play & nostalgic at the same time 😍
I wish I could choose more than one because my top 3 would include:
1. Coconut Mall
2. Choco Mountain
3. Ninja Hideaway
The main thing I'm excited for though is honestly the new music. I've been binging the old songs from these returning tracks and there's some certified bangers in there like Tokyo Blur, Coconut Mall (duh), Choco Mountain and, most surprisingly, Shroom Ridge (seriously, that song has no reason to be as good as it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQgqjTIcQWw&list=PLvNp0Boas720_evFq5jl4VQ3DIm0iKVes&index=14 ). I can't wait for Friday to come around!
@Banjo- Big agree right there, I also still play Mario Kart 64 every now and again. It's my most played Mario Kart after 8 and was the first one of the series I owned, so there's some major nostalgia at play as well as decades of built up muscle memory 🤣 Wish the NSO apps would allow for random multiplayer, I haven't done MK64 multiplayer in many, MANY years
If you picked a Tour track, you’re wrong.
@Silly_G You sound like bags of fun mate
For anyone who not play Tour: Ninja Hideaway is one of the greatest tracks of the series.
Just love choco mountain, so glad it's coming to the Switch.
My sons and I are all really looking forward to Coconut Mall. Hopefully it will be full of Miis like in the Wii version; they loved it when their granddad reversed his car into mine! 😅
I'm torn on a favourite. I have nostalgia for Coconut Mall, I've never raced on Sky Garden so excited to try it and Ninja Hideaway is a great course on Tour that I was really hoping would come to console soon. I am so excited to get more content for this game.
@MostHandsieBoy indeed, i not going to buy more than one mario party per generation.. and i do think i got the bad one in the end although to be fair, it was nice that nintendo updated it after two years, although i can't imagine playing it only myself)
resally happy it is now such a mere a boire.. 48 was already so much more than 32 when that dlc came...
And people keep underestimating how powerful mobile phones are... my iphone 12 mini is at least on par with switch.. and the tour tracks will basically be our new tracksa since they will be remixed..
@Joeynator3000 well they look significantly worse than prior tracks in eight, so its not random, but hey heavy is the cross that is standards
