Re: Lots Of Nintendo Games Will Feature In Summer Games Done Quick's Charity Speedrun

Rocky2418

@RupeeClock
Yeah, I love watching (and playing) those combo randomizers too. Though in terms of playing, I was broken in pretty harshly. In only my second one ever, this was what I contended with: The morph ball was in the dark world, locked behind the moon pearl; and the moon pearl was locked behind the Gold Torizo fight (up in the ceiling above it). It was literally the last place left for me to check in either game, as I wasn't thrilled about doing that fight with two or three E-tanks. And that was only the beginning.

Although things seemed to go smoothly for a while, it also ended up being a ped seed. Mire was my last crystal, and Bombos was needed to enter. Bombos ended up being on its vanilla tablet; and the book ended up being on the pedestal. (TR was one of the pendants, so I'd been hoping I wouldn't have to do it.) So it was a forced blind pull, which meant I checked everything else along the way first. That was rough. (At least I got to read the always funny pedestal text afterward: "This is a paradox?!")

Even so, I did have fun playing it.

Re: Feature: Things We’d Love To See In Super Mario Maker 2 On Switch

Rocky2418

My two big ones are the ability to carry over my Wii U levels, and the ability to actually organize uploaded levels - by order and preferably even folders. I specialize in music levels, which I could put in one folder, but also made plenty of regular levels, which I could put in another.

And seeing as I specialize in music levels, I would be all for specialized music creation tools - though I'll take I can get either way.

Re: Video: We Weren't Sure We Wanted A Zelda: Link's Awakening Remake, Until We Got It

Rocky2418

Link's Awakening is actually my favorite Zelda game, so obviously I was thrilled to see the announcement. But in terms of the art style, I'm definitely not a fan. I mean, I'm sure it'll be fine, and I'll get used to it. But considering the fact that the original game and island of Koholint were so mystical and bittersweet, I think a softer, more artistic look would've fit better. Either way, it's still a remake of my favorite Zelda, so I'll definitely take it!

Re: Guide: What's New In Super Mario Maker 2 For Nintendo Switch?

Rocky2418

In addition to modifiable autoscroll direction, someone on a forum also pointed out that the speed of it can change mid-level. If you look at that spot with the autoscroll bird things being placed, the one at the bottom left (already placed) has a single arrow for a slower speed, while the next one placed, up and to the right, has a double arrow. That doesn't absolutely stand for speed, but it sure seems like it would. Just too bad they cut away from the gameplay before actually reaching that spot and showing the speed change, to confirm it.

Re: Nintendo Teased The Zelda Remake Earlier In The Direct And We Never Even Noticed

Rocky2418

@Crono1973 @Rhaoulos

Yeah, I'm with you guys. I mean, I certainly didn't notice it. But even looking at it after the fact... I personally don't think that was an intended hint. It looks very different color and design-wise - I think it's more of a coincidence, and something one wants to see, after the LA reveal is made. (And Link's Awakening is my favorite Zelda, BTW.)

Of course, this is Nintendo, so who knows. I could be wrong.

Re: Super Mario Maker 2 Confirmed For Switch, Launches This June

Rocky2418

It's the only thing I ever wanted... But seriously, this was SUCH great news to me. I've spent a ridiculous amount of time in the original SMM over the last 3 1/2 years, and was so hoping it would live on with the Switch. Of course, I guess this means I'll have to finally give in and buy a Switch. I'd been hoping for a white one to come out, but if it doesn't by then, oh well.

Re: Nintendo Has "Nothing To Announce" On The Rumours Of A Switch Mini

Rocky2418

FWIW, I'd think that if there were a Switch Mini that looked like that, they'd just go ahead and include a proper d-pad instead of buttons. After all, the only reason for the directional buttons is for the sake of being able to use them as actual buttons when detached and turned on its side.

As for Nintendo's comment: There's nothing to glean from it whatsoever, as always.

Re: Nintendo Files Patent For "Eye-Tracking Enabled 3D Viewing" Technology

Rocky2418

It's certain not an essential feature, but I for one would be all for it if it's done well. I've used and enjoyed the 3D on my 3DS and New 3DS systems extensively over the years - and I do wear glasses all the time, including while playing, BTW. It has still worked well for me. (Especially having anti-reflective coating on my lenses - that makes it work even more consistently.) So I wouldn't be against seeing some form of 3D on the Switch. But again, it's nothing necessary either, so I'm also fine if they don't go for it.

Re: Random: This 1991 Nintendo Calendar Is Pretty Bizarre, And It Can Be Used Again In 2019

Rocky2418

I had this exact calendar as a collectible for most of my life! Finally sold it on Ebay about 6 years ago, but I too took pictures of each page for the sake of nostalgia, which I have saved on my laptop. (One of my favorites, and most memorable to me, was the June one - Link fighting the dragon Barba in Zelda II.) Very cool that it works for this year, too.

@GyorgCostanza
Lol, nice Homer quote.

Re: Feature: 17 Remasters We'd Love To See On Switch In 2019

Rocky2418

I'd certainly get Sunshine, Ocarina, Super Paper Mario, Galaxy, Skyward Sword (especially this one, due to the nice fit with the joy-con controls), and A Link to the Past. And I know my brother would love the Prime Trilogy.

However, I'd also be fine with them not bothering, and focusing on new games. Because, I mean... they've been leaning heavily on remasters in the last few years. The time could probably be better spent on new stuff.

@Anti-Matter
Also, ditto to The Thousand-Year Door. I finally just sold my GC copy, since I haven't had a system to play it on for years. I had only been holding on to it because it hadn't been remastered or made available as a VC title. But it's clearly one of my favorites, since one of my SMM music levels is for the title theme to the game.

Re: Random: New York Times Crossword Puzzle Forgets That The Wii U Was A Thing

Rocky2418

@Bass_X0

The Wii U, and later given a weak port on the 3DS (no ability to upload levels created).

I love my Wii U, and Mario Maker is by far the biggest reason. I've probably put more time into that game than any other in my 30 years of playing Nintendo games.

But yeah, it was really poorly marketed and supported. Even Nintendo admits this. (At least the marketing part.)

Re: Get Discounts On Zelda, Animal Crossing And More With The Latest European My Nintendo Rewards

Rocky2418

@NewAdvent
My thoughts exactly. I'm glad Ambassadors got those games for free, but it's ridiculous that they didn't let the rest of us at least purchase them. Nintendo could've gotten more money for doing absolutely no extra work. (Even though they weren't "true" Virtual Console games, I certainly would've gladly paid for them - Minish Cap, at the very least - and I'm sure many others would have as well.) And we could've had GBA games on our 3DS - handheld games on a handheld, where they fit best. But then that would be a win-win situation for us and Nintendo. That would be crazy. >_<

Re: Rumour: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Is Taking To The Skies On Switch

Rocky2418

I literally had just told my brother a few days ago that I hoped they'd make Skyward Sword for the Switch, since the joy-cons would be perfect for it (in response to him wishing for the Metroid Prime Trilogy, for the same reason). So it sounds great to me.

Skyward Sword is in my top 5 Zelda games primarily because of the sword motion controls - the same controls that make so many dislike the game. So although I look forward to using the motion controls via the joy-cons, I do hope they find a way to include a standard control option, so as not to alienate so many.

Re: Strategy Guide Publisher Prima Games Is Shutting Down After 28 Years

Rocky2418

@Crono1973
Yeah, the fate of already-purchased eguides was my immediate concern. I have 7 from their site. (Most attained via My Nintendo, as there was literally nothing else worthwhile to me to spend my gold coins on before they expired.) If they don't, in fact, come up with a system to let us download the ones we've already bought, then that is ridiculous. As it is, I thought it was lame not to have been able to download them in the past. Fingers crossed, I guess, but not getting my hopes up.

Oh, and nice user name - CT is my favorite game.

Re: Soapbox: Why Do We Want More Games When We've Already Got Too Many?

Rocky2418

Good article. In a way, I've been living by that mindset (getting more use out of what I already have). I actually haven't bought a Switch yet, and pretty much the only reason is that I'm waiting/hoping for them to release a white one. Now yes, that alone is a pretty weak reason to wait, I won't argue that. However, I've been kept busy almost single-handedly by Super Mario Maker for the last 3 years. (I mostly make auto music levels, each of which can take me a week, two weeks, or a month or more to make. So despite making them almost constantly, I've only made 44 levels in total. And there's no shortage of future ones I'd like to make.) I still have several unplayed Wii U games, in fact. So what need is there for me to go out and get a new system, unless it's the exact one I'd like? Either way, I can always get one in the future.

I suppose the only other thing that would likely motivate me to buy a Switch sooner is if Mario Maker came out on that too.

Re: Random: Katamari Director Wasn't Impressed With Mario Or Zelda On Switch

Rocky2418

Neither game is my favorite in their respective series. And with BotW in particular, I'm definitely part of the minority that just didn't care for it very much. My main reason, put simply, is that there was little to no focus on the whole point of the adventure - the main story - the vast majority of the time. It felt to me like an open-world game where you essentially just explored and did random things. Nothing wrong with a game like that, of course. But it's definitely not what I've come to expect and look forward to in Zelda games.

As I said, though, I'm aware I'm in the minority, and most everyone loves it to death. Mine is merely one (unpopular) opinion. :-/

Re: Soapbox: We Like To Grumble, But Nintendo Switch Online Is Actually A Very Generous Offer

Rocky2418

As others have pointed out here, Xbox cloud saves are free - the online service is not required to use them (so misleading lists in the article). And with the PS4, you're able to physically back up saves to an external drive. Neither of those things are true with the Switch, making Nintendo's system the only one for which you can't backup your save data in some way for free. That seems extremely poor to me.

Re: The Nintendo Labo Vehicle Kit Will Work With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe On Switch

Rocky2418

As someone who has always used the wheel, this actually looks very appealing to me. Especially because firming holding in a small button for the gas sometimes makes the tip of my thumb hurt. Being able to use an actual pedal instead would be very nice. How well it would hold up, due to being cardboard... (shrugs) But definitely worth trying out for me (at some point, maybe when it's a bit cheaper - $70 is, well... yeah).

@Octane @FriendlyHuman
Literally made me laugh out loud.
