Does Animal Crossing need a sequel? Same idea. They always do something different for a sequel. It’s probably better to save Pokopia 2 for Switch 3, though, and focus on expansions for now.
I loved Dread. If I could request anything it would be:
Double down on Dread’s gameplay enhancing combat even further so that it feels skill-based.
Explore new powers/tools - Prime 4 is a good game but it felt a bit samey in terms of powers.
Hell no pixel art. It’s already a series that feels “retro” in some sense, it doesn’t need to look like that too. I much prefer visuals to be even better than they were in Dread.
Well, it has been working and it likely will work for a while. Resident Evil games ate not produced in a single year even if they release it every year, the core gameplay loop is well established and the games are short enough to be enjoyable, replayable and still make us want more - definitely a different scenario from Assassin’s Creed open-world designs.
The only problem is that we don’t have many games left for remakes. Zero, 1, 5 and 6 (which will likely be a brand new game by comparison). So how can they keep this strategy when they run out of games to remake?
I would love to play XV on the go. It's one of my favorite games from PS4 generation.
Also it's quite funny to read people saying XV is bad and then proceed to ask for XIII trilogy which are some of the worst games ever. In almost 30 years of gaming, I only ever returned a single game I bought - FF XIII. It was simply awful, walking forward forever with battles that I only ever selected the same command over and over plus a confusing story. And no, I haven't played tens or hundreds of hours in order to get to the "good" part since games are supposed to be fun from the start.
We had several amazing games this year, but for me the most technically accomplished one in the amazing list that deserves the GOTY so far is Resident Evil Requiem.
That said, Ocarina will likely be the real GOTY if it lands in 2026.
Never played Star Fox aside from the demo on Switch 2. You say I can complete the game in 1h and then all the remaining fun is replaying the game over and over again? Maybe I just don’t get how it works, but the concept doesn’t sound fun at all.
I’m torn on this game. It looks amazing and the gameplay is interesting, but paying for a game that lasts less than some demos rubs me the wrong way.
So glad they reduced difficulty of one of the simulations. Some of them are quite hard and the spike for the last ones is ridiculous. I gave up on them because it wasn’t fun anymore.
I haven’t played it again in more than a decade, I can wait for the new experience. I still know all the major beats of course, but the details escape me.
The essentials depend on how you prefer to play, but I would say either DK Bananza, Mario Kart World or Pokopia as the first game (until Ocarina is here) and a MicroSD Express card - I know these are expensive right now, but unless you’re the kind of player that only plays a single game for years, you’ll need one. 3rd party games require a lot of storage and they’re mostly excellent on Switch 2.
That is a really good and exciting infographic. The only downside is that gamers with multiple platforms likely played a lot of these games already.
As for myself, I’ll love to replay Kingdom Hearts on a Nintendo playform. It’s a perfect match and it always seemed strange on PlayStation.
That’s to quote one part of the presentation which got me very excited. To be honest, I added most of these games to my wish list and purchased the upgrade pack for Xenoblade Chronicles.
I love my Switch 2 and like many others I’ve been playing almost daily. In fact, that’s a big part of its magic since now I get to play big RPGs like FF7 Remake and Rebirth continuously instead of fighting for TV availability.
It’s also undeniable that 3rd party carried the console in Year 1. Perhaps that’s why the general feeling is that it’s missing a killer game. DK Bananza, MK World and Metroid Prime 4 were all excellent games, Yoshi is also good, but they all feel like Switch 1.5 games I suppose.
From a gaming standpoint though, there has been way more extraordinary games than time available to play, even playing almost daily. Not sure if I’ll ever go back to PS5 now. So far I couldn’t justify getting any game there when I can have Switch 2’s flexibility.
Small scratches everywhere just from the dock and then one uglier scratch that thankfully is quite small and located in the corner from my toddler once he figured out that removing the console and putting it again in the dock turned it on in the TV.
It's on my wish list. May and June continue the trend of more than 1 game a month I want for Switch 2 - Yoshi, Indiana Jones, FF7 Rebirth and Star Fox are very high in my wish list, but unfortunately I can't spend on games right now so they'll have to wait a bit longer.
Oh no, not MercurySteam too. Dread is one of my all-time favorite games and I quite enjoyed Lords of Shadow for 3DS too. I hope the talented professionals leaving MercurySteam find another place soon that respects them and give them space to show what they’re capable of.
Nintendo is usually very grounded in their forecasts. Also if they said they’re expecting record sales despite the current scenario it would be pretty obvious they’re hiding a huge game. Honestly, their numbers will be easily achieved with the new Pokémon game alone and we barely know what is coming next year.
If I was a game investor I would not trust in analysts. Their predictions don’t seem to match reality more often than not.
Directs like E3 showcases in the past are exciting. Something to look forward and to imagine what is coming, then we can get small updates with Today or other tools.
Just announcing stuff like it’s nothing on Today feels a lot like never celebrating anything. Sort of reduces the excitement.
Not sure what these critics are talking about. I played a lot of the demo last night and it’s once again a very impressive port that looks and plays great. Yes, there are some frame rate dips that most people won’t be bothered and texture pop-ins that are once again nothing new for those who had a Switch 1 before. Not excusing the problems, just adding some perspective. The game looks and feels amazing. It’s yet another success story for Square Enix.
Curious to hear more about it, but I avoid MMOs for the same reason a lot of other commenters do - it’s very addictive and can be a time sink if they’re really good.
Well deserved, it’s an excellent game! I hope they sold enough on Switch 2 to bring all future games over as well. If they managed to get Requiem looking and playing this good with likely a short development period, I can only imagine what they could do if a Switch 2 version was built from the start of a project.
It’s likely to be a late release for Switch 2. Not particularly fond of this game anyway, but the idea of delayed releases on Switch 2 annoy me a lot. I know it was the standard for Switch 1 gen, but the market conditions are very different now.
I wish publishers would delay for all platforms if Switch 2 version is not ready, which is pretty much what they do for all the other platforms.
Probably a case of Japanese culture being poorly localized with a direct translation. That said, the film is pretty good for its intended audience. I enjoyed watching it with my son and he absolutely loved it.
My view is that critics should take into consideration the target audience for each film in their analysis so the critic might resonate with the readers. Otherwise what is the point?
@Grumblevolcano Yep, but I still find it odd. On a personal level, I would rather be excited for an event that I can sit down and watch rather than random bits of info.
Can’t argue with Nintendo’s business approach, though. Kit and Krysta mentioned a while ago how Nintendo is really great at raising conversations around the brand. Here we are, at a random Tuesday, talking about Nintendo which is not something competitors can say.
Very interested in this game, but no idea why Nintendo is dropping info in random week days instead of a Direct. Sounds like a game that would be exciting to learn more in a full showcase.
I have no idea why people are so fond of this one - probably due to the pirate theme. For me it’s the worst Assassin’s Creed game. Extremely repetitive even visually, all the good stuff actually comes from AC3 and the story pace is so poor that it doesn’t hit emotionally at all.
I’m curious if they’ll fix the problems the game had or if they’ll remake it as-is.
The game is amazing, I can sort of see where the story is leading me but gameplay is really fun. The reviewer didn’t mention how poor some of the textures are though. They really stand out several times, particularly in cutscenes. There is a scene by the beach that made me think of Pokémon Violet on Switch 1 - pretty sure Switch 2 can do a lot better. It’s still very much a worth experience and all 3rd party devs are pushing patches post-release for Switch 2 games so I fully expect some improvements over time. Right now it’s a bit rough though.
Interesting that they mention kids will fall in love with it. That’s kind of the point, isn’t it? The first film was fine but kids loved it and Nintendo’s goal is to introduce the IPs to a new generation which apparently these films are very successful at.
My son watched the first film several times while it was on Netflix. We’re definitely taking him to watch the sequel - it will be his first time going to the cinema. Let’s see if he will watch the entire film, but I think he will love it.
I see there are a lot of old-time fans from RE in Nintendo Life. Wesker is not a part of the series for over a decade with several games released during this time yet people still associate The Villain title to him. Personally I went with Gideon since he is evil, manipulative, powerful and by the end covers another option in this list. Eveline is a strong #2 though - small evil kid always hits the right notes in horror stories.
That said, I understand people choosing Wesker since all the pre-soft-reboot games had him as a background presence at least.
She absolutely nailed it with her performance as Grace. I believe the character completely - the breathing scares, the screams and the regular dialogue, it’s all very well done! Probably one the best mocap performances ever.
Huh? Did anyone tell Capcom you’re supposed to delay your game, not anticipate it? What else now, you’re gonna release 3 games for the price of 1? Optimize for portable and low-end devices with excellent ports? Preposterous!
How is this even gonna work? Are they dropping Desmond references and present day? That part would feel really off for anyone who played mostly RPG Assassin’s Creed games.
What a packed two months period with something for everyone!
Unfortunately I’ll be quite busy with Resident Evil for a while to have time for anything else. But I definitely want Pragmata in April, so there is that. MH Stories 3 and Pokopia also sound like something I’d like, but I’ll wait for reviews and keep them on my wish list.
