Re: Soapbox: The Nintendo Switch's Final Specs Don't Matter

RenanLK

Of course specs matter. They're used for more than making the grass look nicer or to increase the amount of pixels in a hat, you know. To create the open-world design that most games use nowadays you need a certain amount of processing/graphical power. It doesn't have to be on par with PS4/Pro or XBO/Scorpio, games on Switch may not look as good - that doesn't matter unless you're a PC gamer - but the gameplay and atmosphere have to be the same as any other version.

So, it doesn't need to be as powerful as other consoles, but it needs enough power to run 3rd party games nicely. In the end, though, I agree that sales - more than specs - carry the final word about a game being ported or not.

Re: Retro Studios is Hiring and Tweeting, Which is Nice

RenanLK

As much as I love DKC (they were a huge part of my childhood), I don't believe they're making another one. Nintendo will probably remaster Tropical Freeze for Switch to get more sales, hopefully a new one can come after that. =)

What games did Retro create besides bringing back DKC and Metroid?

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Release Date and Key Games Outlined

RenanLK

I'd say this is a list of games that leaked, not of all the games that will be released by launch/first year.

Also, many of you have complained that ports suck, that you aren't buying it before day X since most games are ports. Let me tell you something: although I understand your feelings, I couldn't be more excited by the idea of playing Wii U games on switch, since I totally missed the console - and I'm a Nintendo fan. Now think of those who aren't fans, there are amazing games that most people haven't played. There's a reason why PS4 did the exact same strategy, many gamers came from X360 and really loved being able to play these games. Believe me, ports are an amazing idea, even more so considering Wii U.

One more thing, Nintendo really doesn't need to convince you to buy a Switch - you're gonna do it anyway, after all you bought a Wii U. They need to convince the rest of the gaming community. =)

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Game Cards Limited To 16GB Size

RenanLK

16GB? I don't think so. Nintendo would have to be really stupid to do it. It's not like games will need more than that in the future; they already do use more than that. If Nintendo want any 3rd party support, they'll need at least 32GB (not to mention there would be serious limitations for their own games as well). But again, I don't believe this rumour is true; after all, Breath of the Wild could use more than that on Wii U discs and I don't think Nintendo is downgrading the Switch version.

Re: Poll: Nintendo Switch Delivers Single Screen Gaming - Will You Miss the Dual Screen Concept?

RenanLK

For me, DS was the last console with innovative dual screen gaming. 3DS focused on the top screen (thanks to 3d, higher resolution, etc), so basically we had/have maps and inventories at the bottom screen. WiiU expanded on that idea... Second screen became an add-on instead of an essential part of gaming. So, although it won't be as fast and simple to check items and maps, we can easily live without dual screen.

Re: Poll: The GameCube is 15 Years Old - Pick Your Favourite Games

RenanLK

To this day, I haven't met a single person who owned a GameCube, unfortunately... My friends and I played PS2 back then. But thanks to emulators, I'm playing GC since last year, hehe.

Wind Waker is the second best Zelda title ever IMO, and possibly the best GameCube game. And as far as Nintendo's main series go, I gotta say that Mario Sunshine was a huge disappointment for me; a water-thing as the main focus instead of acrobacies/jumps/etc was an awful idea. It's a good game, just not a very good Mario game... But then, that's coming from a guy who played Galaxy 1/2 before Sunshine, maybe my opinion would be different if I had played it at launch. =)

Re: Poll: Share Your Thoughts on Super Mario Run and the Delays to Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem on Mobile

RenanLK

Looks like a good play-while-you're-riding-the-bus game. Nothing special, really, we do have lots of runners already. Also, I'll have to wait since I own an Android, but that's fine; at least it's way better than Miitomo.

And like @Senpai_Bruh just said, I wish people would stop saying "Nintendo is doomed!", "3rd party blah blah". Grow up! Nintendo isn't giving up on anything, just reaching a broader audience which is a great thing.

Re: Wall Street Journal Reports That Nintendo NX Will Indeed Use Flash-Based Game Cards

RenanLK

Wouldn't that keep NX from getting pretty much all 3rd party games? Sure, it could get the portable games, but what about the big screen ones that are disc-based?

I like that Nintendo is always trying something new, but nowadays you can't do everything by yourself. PS4 and Xbox One aimed to make it easier to port games from different platforms; I really believe Nintendo should do the same. We need 3rd party. At least I do...

Re: Guide: Here's How To Get Pokémon GO On iPhone And Android

RenanLK

The servers stopped working in Brazil... But before that, the GPS and AR were accusing problems too, although both the camera and localization were permitted. I hope it releases here soon, we never had Miitomo, but we do have every other Pokémon app on Play Store, so...

Re: Rumour: French Media Claims Nintendo NX is Set for September Reveal

RenanLK

Also, Skyward Sword remaster may not be coming now, but NX will get it at some point. If Nintendo keeps its practice of making new consoles compatible with previous generations, NX is gonna have WW and TP from Wii U, and OoT, MM and the whole Hero Lost Timeline from Virtual Console, but it won't have access to SS, perfect timing for a remaster in my opinion. Personally, I love SS, so I wanna play it in HD.

Re: Rumour: French Media Claims Nintendo NX is Set for September Reveal

RenanLK

More rumours... One of these days, Nintendo is gonna spread some rumours just for the fun of it. I don't have any idea of what to expect from NX; horizontal thinking with Wii and DS worked in their context, but it was a huge mistake with Wii U... I don't know if they wanna try it again or aim for current technology and easier environment for programmers to port their games without losing quality.

One way or the other, though, Nintendo is gonna bring us outstanding games; that's for sure. Breath of the Wild being a day one title is the best possible start for NX.

Re: Poll: Do You Want The Rumoured 'MH' Next Generation Portable to be Separate from NX?

RenanLK

I know Nintendo is the queen of surprises, but I really believe they should keep their consoles apart from each other.

The main attraction of Nintendo's portables isn't portability (as weird as that sounds), but the experience that comes bundled with the console. I haven't met a single Gameboy/DS/3DS owner who got it for portability; most people play it at home actually. These systems were born to make greater usage of "old" technology, horizontal thinking as Nintendo called, instead of building a high tech piece.

I never owned a Gameboy as a kid, but I played it using emulators and borrowed it from friends; and I owned a DS and a 3DS. The lack of power made developers get creative with their games, building experiences that couldn't be made for home consoles. Actually, 3DS was my least favorite portable from Nintendo, 'cause although it has awesome games, they aren't really unique. They feel more like a portable copy of a home console title.

Anyway, I hope they have a better link between the portable and the home console, but Nintendo should keep two different consoles.

Re: Nintendo Life Weekly: NX Rumour Denied by New NX Rumour, Preorder the Prettiest New 3DS XL, and More

RenanLK

@Giygas_95 I only played 3D Land, actually, and as far as I've seen 3D World feels like a sequel to that one. Don't take me wrong, they're awesome games, just not the same kind of game as the 3D-collect-120-stars Marios. In my opinion, there are 3 main Mario series going on now:
1- New Bros series, the 2D series remade with 3D models;
2- 3D Land/World series, the 2D-made-3D games, that aim to bring the feeling of 2D games to a 3D world (I believe Nintendo said something about aiming at players who didn't feel confortable with 3D Mario yet);
3- 64/Sunshine/Galaxy/2 series, the open-world collect-120-stars series, that didn't show up on Wii U yet. <-- This is what I meant with Wii U lacking a 3D Mario.

Re: Nintendo Life Weekly: NX Rumour Denied by New NX Rumour, Preorder the Prettiest New 3DS XL, and More

RenanLK

@jsty3105 Hahah. That's a good point. I wanna play Nintendo again, though, and I'm waiting for NX since I have to choose... Heheh

Since we're talking rumours and possibilites... Isn't it the time for Nintendo to bring Super Mario Sunshine back? I mean, all Marios up to Super Mario 64 are available for Wii U (and even 3DS now); Galaxy 1/2 are available thanks to Wii U playing Wii games; Sunshine is still missing though. They could remake it for NX, or maybe for Wii U - since it doesn't have a proper 3D Mario yet.

Re: More Official Pokémon Go Gameplay Details Emerge

RenanLK

Oh, come on! Put battles in the code as well! Otherwise, this is not Pokémon. I wanna battle wild Pokémon and real people through AR. Imagine this: Two people fighting through AR watching the same thing over their phones' camera; and a third person can watch as well through the app pointing its camera to the same location the trainers are fighting. How cool would that be?

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Was Wrong To Turn Its Back On The Wii Remote

RenanLK

I think they've left the game before its final boss... Really, Wii was a huge success, and still is. Much like SNES and N64, if you have it, sometimes you'll want to play it (specially when friends come over). Considering how popular it got, Nintendo should have improved upon it with a Wii 2, making a more precise Wiimote, maybe with more buttons and a slider (3DS-like) to allow traditional gaming as well. If you look at Playstation, can anyone not think of Dualshock controllers? Wii put Nintendo on the top, and its image became really strong, they could have used it more, but decided not to - unless you consider the name Wii U, but aside from Wii on the title, it has nothing to do with the older console.

Re: Feature: How Mario Kart Brought Two Soul Mates Together

RenanLK

@manu0

Hi, manu! How are you?

I totally agree with you about safety and everything; but I believe we must also take some other things into consideration. First, when he played with this girl, he was a teenager, not an adult. For all he knew, the girl on the other side could be a grown-up, a teenager or a child, not to mention she could be a he. I don't really think he was in love with this girl, he was attracted to the one he imagined that was on the other side. This was a romantic text, everyone always writes it in a way to make the story better - at least, I know I do, and not necessarily what you thought at that time. He looked for her, because they had a relationship from the past - not a romantic one. Once they started talking, they trusted each other enough to exchange more than "25000 words", as he said, so they probably mentioned their ages at some point. After all, at no point through his story he came across as seeking for a kid; I'm sure he was interested in knowing if she was a girl and her age. As they begin to know more of each other, they exchanged pictures as we can see in the article, and at some point he travelled to meet her. Anyway, considering everything I read, I don't believe for any second this guy was looking for kid. I ain't saying he wouldn't do it, just that you can't interpret it from his text. Although, I believe that what you wrote about security is a serious concern overall that must be talked about; just not in this story and article.

Feel free to tell me what you think. I'd appreciate to debate different understandings of his text. I only ask you to not insult me, ok? I'll respect your opinion, no matter how different it is from mine. =D

Re: Nintendo and DeNA Smart Device Game Details Coming on 29th October, With Investors Demanding Specifics

RenanLK

There are many Nintendo games that could be great on Mobile. Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is such a game, Mario VS DK as quoted by someone else, Layton series... Pretty much all the DS library that focuses on touch. Let's not forget that if it wasn't for DS, there wouldn't be smartphone games using touch, Nintendo showed how to do it. Now, they'll show how to do meaningful gaming experiences on smartphones, at least I trust them to do it.

Re: Gallery: Mario - A History of Power-Ups, Fashion and Wardrobe Missteps

RenanLK

It may be just me, but Nintendo seems to be out of the spotlight lately. Where are the AAAs? Nintendo Direct? Mario, Zelda, Pokémon? New games and IPs? I don't expect IGN or GameSpot to deliver news about Nintendo, but NLife is talking about galleries, memories, late games coming to e-Shop, indies, opinions for weeks now. Don't take me wrong, I know there are many great indies, but they don't make everyone go insane for 'em. Where are you, Nintendo?

Re: Feature: A Pokémon Retrospective: Generation 1 - 1996 to 1999

RenanLK

@Cyber-BLP-- I love Pokémon 1st and 2nd gen, specially. The first and second ones offered outstanding gameplay and simplicity when gameplay ruled over graphics. XY was a problem, though... Fighting became a thousand times better in 3D, finally, but the game just ends when you finish the story. There should be more post-credits content.

Re: DeNA West CEO Believes Nintendo Smart Device Releases "Might Change the Way People Play Mobile Games"

RenanLK

@Kaze_Memaryu You realize consoles also can't be upgraded to fit your needs, right? Smartphones aren't what phones used to be, just as consoles aren't what they used to be. My point is that technology changes according to creativity usage, so my argument doesn't end because PCs are upgradable.
I never said the same games produced for consoles will be produced for phones, I actually hate playing with emulated analog stick. I believe games should be created having phones in mind, not consoles [when working for phones, obviously]. Skyward Sword would never work the same in other platforms, and it's an awesome game. If you consider depth to be games produced for consoles only, mainly with traditional controls, then there's nothing else I can tell you.
Also, Phantom Hourglass was fully played with touch, so yes - it would work perfectly on phones, how wouldn't it?
Games with depth can be produced for phones with phones in mind, not just ports of console titles - in that, I agree with you; there's no way emulating buttons will be as good as actual buttons.

Re: DeNA West CEO Believes Nintendo Smart Device Releases "Might Change the Way People Play Mobile Games"

RenanLK

@Kaze_Memaryu Although I can see your point, I don't agree with you, dude. Most things aren't or weren't created for what they do. Computers were war machines, today they can do pretty much "everything". Videogames played games, now you can browse around the internet, watch videos... The thing is: Creative people find new ways to use technology, if you don't think outside the box, you're never gonna move anywhere. Wii and DS wouldn't exist if someone hadn't thought about mixing a TV controller and motion tech with gaming, or how touch screens could bring something new to the table. Phones are used for much more than communicating, they have touch screens, "motion" sensor, etc, that can be used for gaming. Think about Prof. Layton or Zelda: Phantom Hourglass; these are brilliant games that would work perfectly on phones to name a few.
The fact that mobile gaming is mostly used for making easy money out of poor games with no depth or creativity [for what smartphones can offer] doesn't mean that a interested developer can't come up with something original. Every single console is limited by it's hardware, but you can do thousands of different things within these limits if you want.

Re: Chris Pranger From Nintendo Treehouse Discusses Harsh Realities Of Localisation

RenanLK

Well, I get that. Fans usually forget it's an industry. I live in Brazil and just now we're starting to get translated games: some w/ subtitles, others dub too. The solution is quite simple - if you like it, then learn the language required to understand it. We all wanted videogames and had to make money to pay the required price, right? It's the same thing (except for region locked games, then you also need a JP console). I wouldn't understand the games I like if I didn't learn english.

Re: Interview: Senran Kagura Producer Kenichirō Takaki Bares All

RenanLK

@Crimzonlogic Pretty much every fighting game includes "hot guys". If you look at it, most of them are tall, w/ strong bodies and powerful. That's just how hetero men usually understand "being hot". Since these games are mostly produced by male developers, it's their understanding of a hot guy that shows up in the game. Perhaps if a female developer created a fighting title, male characters would look different.
People usually remember how woman are affected by male culture (and it's important they do), but they tend to forget that superheroes and strong males are shown to boys as what they must be as well.
