Not sure what exactly they can still release on Switch 1. Nintendo is known for avoiding multiple releases in the same series unless it is something special, and they pretty much covered everything. Sure, they could release a new F-Zero, Star Fox, Kid Icarus or some other b-side series, but putting that out on Switch instead of Switch 2 sounds like a missed opportunity.
Any game charging $80 feels off. But seriously, realism is your reason for saying that GTA is worth more than other games? I was blown away by GTA’s graphics, even so I’m far more excited for Mario Kart World (which considering how many hours I’ll likely play has a far bigger value for me).
He sounded arrogant really. Not to mention realism is the art direction that ages the worst. Your insane graphics will look very poor in a few years. But anyway, arrogance aside, GTA will likely be a great game too.
Amazon says my Switch 2 should arrive until June 10th, so I might need to wait a few extra days. PS5 pre-order back then was actually delivered earlier than expected, though, so hopefully I'll get it by launch day 🤞🏻
Let's put it this way, besides the Switch I have a PS5 with 100+ digital games, but almost all of them are actually PS4 games that I purchased in the past or near PS5 launch. Ever since having a kid, I have also been gaming mostly on my Switch due to portability and lighter games.
I feel that gaming will need to reinvent itself soon. With us fans growing older with less time to play and with kids that could enjoy gaming staying out of it due to extremely high prices, I don't think it's sustainable anymore.
Mine is pre-ordered and I can’t wait to play MK World day 1!!
I’m trying to finish Xenoblade Chronicles before then. Amazing game but it’s huge, I think I’m playing it for the past 2 months. Finally reached chapter 14 tonight.
GTA always had an insane range of settings on PC going from low-end all the way up to computers that didn't exist yet, so a port to Switch 2 is definitely possible.
Whether Rockstar thinks it's worth the effort though, that's another matter. Personally, with the high cost of AAA game development and the very likely huge number of players on Switch 2, it sounds like a good idea to me.
I went full digital with my games ever since the PS4 generation so that won’t affect me personally. It’s not nice for those that appreciate physical media though, especially for preservation purposes.
That said, from a business perspective, Nintendo’s solution is brilliant. It’s a lot better than a code in a box, it doesn’t tie the game to a single account, it allows retailers to continue to sell physical media as an alternative to direct digital purchases and the logistics are likely a lot cheaper.
Still waiting for the pre-order date in my country, but given the price I can’t justify any accessories for now. I’ll just keep my Pro Controller until I can afford Pro 2. In the future I also want an MicroSD card, but it’s not a must-have for now (unlike the Switch that lauched with barely enough storage for a single game).
Never played GameCube, but I did play some of these 3rd party games on PS2 at the time. My wish is that more exclusive games are included so that I can finally experience them for the first time.
Thankfully I already got a 4K TV due to PS5 so I'm good to go. The annoying part will be changing the HDMI cable, since new TVs are so thin that they're too close to the wall. Well, that and smart features (Samsung keeps wanting to convince me to stream games when all I want is to click on the Switch icon).
I'm honestly surprised by how well it runs and looks on Switch 2, regardless of compromises. Definitely worth a purchase to play on the go. Only slightly concerned that if Switch 2 is already reaching its limits for 3rd party on day 1, what can we expect for the next 6-8 years?
@JimNorman Also worth noting for NL readers - the whole 7 weeks to port gossip is fake. The correct info as stated by DF is that the build in these events is 7 weeks old.
I agree that the best MK is the one you mostly played with friends. For me that would be the very first one in SNES.
However, I'm really excited about this one due to the non-stop racing, the reversed tracks depending on where you start, jumping against the walls, the cartoon-y looks and animations. As always it'll be great to play with friends, but this iteration has potential to be fun solo/online too (Knockout Tour is the best kind of chaos).
I wonder how long it will take for me to get a Switch 2. No news about when pre-orders will start here and we still have no clue how many units will be available after launch date either. =/
From a gameplay standpoint, this is the best Mario Kart in ages, I'm so looking forward to it. And I don't usually play Mario Kart for long. World's Knockout Tour and connected races look chaotic in the very best way though, so I'm in!
That these comparisons even exist is amazing for Nintendo. Steam Deck has access to pretty much all modern games, not always in the best settings of course, but it gives me hope for the future of 3rd party games in Switch 2.
@TimelessJubilee Definitely. I would love if we could get at least 3 Zelda games this gen - an open-world 3D that expanded the BotW formula, a cel-shaded 3D similar to Wind Waker with a more traditional formula, and a top-down game like Link's Awakening.
This version requires annual payment, so there's that. Personally I only have the basic tier of Nintendo Online, a standalone HD release would be interesting for me.
Not many details in the interview, but enough to understand the gameplay loop. I'll wait for a review on this one. It looks amazing, but not sure if the PvP match aspect of it is for me.
We can’t forget that $80 means a huge increase in countries with weaker currency than US dollars. In Brazil, $70 already translated to R$350. $80 will likely put the price in the R$400-450 range, which is just ridiculous for a game (for context, the average monthly wage in my region is R$2.000-3.000). I can’t really think of any other entertainment with this price, even music festivals with international artists cost less.
I would gladly take region locking this gen if Nintendo could practice prices adapted for each region.
Now the question is - will the existing Pro Controller work with Switch 2? That's important to know if I should pass it together with the console to family members or keep it for Switch 2.
I have a daily meeting 30mins into the Direct, hopefully it will be fast so I can get back to the Direct. But who am I kidding, I won’t watch it just once.
On a side note, it’s funny that thanks to the magic of timezones, Nintendo Life is always the source of the news first for most if not all of us readers.
I always hated the whole primary console solution that felt more like a hack than anything. This has potential to simplify gaming for families with multiple Switch devices, let's see.
Honestly? No idea what is coming. Metroid Prime 4 is probably the best bet, but anything I can think of - even remasters/remakes - feel like one less game they can use on Switch 2 to fill the gaps.
Now the real surprise is that it seems he is drinking chimarrão in this photo! That would be surprising, since it's a regional drink to where I live. Probably something else, hehe.
Loved the spoilers. If I hadn’t read I probably would have stopped after credits. This might the first Pokémon where completing the Pokedex is worth it.
@kalosn No way! I can't wait even longer for the one thing that matters - games. Switch 2 is Switch 1 next edition, not much of a surprise there, but games can surprise us a lot. And I want the console in my TV in June, not another direct, hehe. =)
That would be great, but it’s too soon after the April direct. Sounds unlikely. They’ll want to maximize hype once the direct hits and make sure everyone who wants the console at launch can get it. And with Trump’s tariffs, who knows if it’s feasible to get everything ready that fast without losing money.
Either Switch 2 native version or it will be used to showcase how Switch 2 can enhance Switch games with AI or whatever. No way they’re going to leave a big AAA game out of the new shiny console.
Lots of people don’t bother buying a separate router with support for new Wi-Fi technology and many routers given by ISPs still don’t support Wi-Fi 6, so it’s totally understandable to not invest in 7.
@PikminMarioKirby Well, to be honest if any gen 1 starter shows up the others will be forgotten by most players, so there is that. They could have picked from the later gens, though.
Capcom engineers are some of the best in the industry. If they feel like porting to Switch 2, it will happen and look amazing, just look at what they managed to achieve with MH Rise on Switch. Now if it's a good commercial idea for them, that's the question. They could opt to release a brand new MH on Switch 2 instead given their huge fanbase on Nintendo platforms.
I'm grateful that I can buy new consoles without selling my previous ones anymore. My plan is to pass my Switch to my nephew, since he is getting interested in games now and loves Mario since the film.
The problem is the timing. If it was after April 4th, then we would likely see a new mainline game. But since it’s too early, I’m not expecting anything new. Maybe a teaser with starter pokémon without actual gameplay.
I watched it once, and it is indeed quite boring. Thankfully, Nintendo Life takes a hit for the team and then summarizes what matters!
I don't expect any new meaningful games besides Legends Z-A to make an appearance. Perhaps some odd spin-off or something. Nintendo wants to keep us waiting until April to know the big games for Switch 2 (likely to include some new gen Pokémon).
@Tetsuro Kinda depends if the game will actually be able to use the extra hardware through BC, though. A Switch 2 edition of the game would be the ideal scenario.

Re: Poll: Orange Or Red Switch eShop - Make Your Choice
I didn't like the red color in the current layout. It's too strong as a background color for the entire menu.
The color itself is fine, feels very Nintendo, just redesign the eShop layout, please!
