It feels like old Windows downloads where it’s initially quite fast and after reaching a certain percentage it slows down to the point you wonder if it’s even making progress. Overall, it’s faster than Switch 1, though.
I’m very happy with my Switch 2! Between Cyberpunk, Mario Kart World, replaying my favorite games from Switch 1 and retro games from N64 and GCN, I’m strongly inclined to consider it my primary console, which is a first for a Nintendo console.
All it takes is for Capcom to announce Resident Evil Requiem for Switch 2, then I’m sold.
I appreciate their review, but it’s a very positive thing that most of their criticism is not noticeable by casual players. Also, I completely disagree with their take on virtual cards being worse than primary/secondary accounts - clearly he is talking about one person with multiple consoles, not a family with kids. Virtual cards aren’t perfect, but they’re a lot better for families.
At least with Switch 2 we may finally have a new Pokémon game that looks like a GameCube title, that’s progress from the DS textures we were stuck with, I suppose.
Measuring 3rd party sales less than 1mo since launch is just pure juice of capitalism. I really want to get Cyberpunk and Street Fighter 6, but can’t justify spending on a new console and multiple launch games, I guess others are in a similar situation. I’m also considering Hogwarts Legacy, but NL didn’t review it yet.
Analysts should wait longer before jumping to premature conclusions. I can already hear them doubling down on these statements next month as everyone buys DK Bananza instead of 3rd parties.
I know this is user-based, but it makes absolutely no sense. GameCube didn’t sell well at all, which means not a lot of people played Double Dash, no way it should be higher than World.
Also, given how iterative Mario Kart has been since its first game, every sequel should be higher ranked than its predecessor. World is Mario Kart at its finest, easy #1.
Something I feel hasn’t been mentioned properly is how the difficulty went up with much better AI and also that the items were better balanced. MK World’s free roam has potential but needs updates, everything else though makes it the very best Mario Kart so far.
Knockout Tour online is so perfect!! It’s like an interactive real-time version of that Hanna Barbera racing cartoon, pure chaos and fun!
‘You think I’m made of money?’ – says all of us after purchasing Nintendo Switch 2 with a huge backlog of Switch games that easily cost more than the new console.
A valid question given all the other non-eatable power-ups. The whole interview is very much worth reading! They mentioned a power-up that changes the weather which I don’t remember seeing in the shared videos so far.
If I wasn't already convinced to buy it this year, I would now. This looks outstanding!
Since most PS5 games so far have actually released on PS4 too, I see no reason why Switch 2 is going to be left out by 3rd parties. It is an efficient portable PS4 Pro with modern features after all.
It’s a bold claim but I agree that Nintendo will likely receive way more 3rd party games on Switch 2. It’s their first “stable” upgrade in a while with the potential to migrate most if not all Switch 1 owners over time. And as others said, the increasing cost of AAA game development means 3rd party wants their games everywhere for increased sales.
With Microsoft nearly out of the hardware business and GTA 6 being the first convincing next-gen game for PS5, relying on PS6 exclusively for AAA sales might not be the best idea.
Also, I have a PS5 but I’m not planning to get the inevitable PS6 since I don’t think Sony delivered enough value yet for me. It just feels like a high-end PS4 to be honest, not enough new experiences to justify another console.
I finished Xenoblade Chronicles 1 on Switch recently, great game! Recently started XC2 and the evolution between the games in terms of animation, graphics, battle system and storytelling is amazing!
To me, they’re the perfect replacement for Square Enix when it comes to RPGs on Nintendo consoles. I can’t wait to see what they’re making for Switch 2.
Please keep in mind this is 1.0.0, Nintendo is likely to optimize a lot of its system resources over time as it understands developer needs, improve its own system software and possibly iterate on GameChat features.
I'm curious about how it fares against Xbox Series S and mobile hardware like iPhones and M-series Macbooks that also use ARM architecture.
I can totally see kids making good use of it - which they should honestly have put in the commercials. Adults playing different games together with online chat? No way, that just won't happen. If it can be used as a channel for private sessions like a Mario Kart tournament from NL, that would be cool, but with real-life friends? Can't see that happening.
It’s funny that Mario Kart is a series that always looks like an early generation game. Super Mario Kart was amazing back then with its 3D visuals on SNES, but most popular SNES games look better. MK64 brought the series to real 3D but the character sprites look awful, again you can find far better graphics in most popular N64 games. The trend goes on with each new entry, even now with MK World - I’m so excited about it for many reasons, but it looks like a Switch “Pro” game more than a game taking full advantage of Switch 2 hardware.
It’s still an amazing series, though, and I can’t wait for the NL Cups we’ll be able to set up in the coming months.
I’m not mad at $80, I understand how inflation impacts the prices and if this ends up allowing more people to land a job or get a promotion, that’s great.
I am annoyed at Nintendo for not localizing their prices, though. $80 in US is just that, it’s far more in Latin America and we have lower salaries.
I can’t really imagine anything more Nintendo than a hybrid portable+home device. If they were to try something different, then what? We go back to 2 Nintendo devices? Or just drop home console in favor of portable where Nintendo was always leading?
Some people need to rethink what innovation means…
Not sure what exactly they can still release on Switch 1. Nintendo is known for avoiding multiple releases in the same series unless it is something special, and they pretty much covered everything. Sure, they could release a new F-Zero, Star Fox, Kid Icarus or some other b-side series, but putting that out on Switch instead of Switch 2 sounds like a missed opportunity.
Any game charging $80 feels off. But seriously, realism is your reason for saying that GTA is worth more than other games? I was blown away by GTA’s graphics, even so I’m far more excited for Mario Kart World (which considering how many hours I’ll likely play has a far bigger value for me).
He sounded arrogant really. Not to mention realism is the art direction that ages the worst. Your insane graphics will look very poor in a few years. But anyway, arrogance aside, GTA will likely be a great game too.
Amazon says my Switch 2 should arrive until June 10th, so I might need to wait a few extra days. PS5 pre-order back then was actually delivered earlier than expected, though, so hopefully I'll get it by launch day 🤞🏻
Let's put it this way, besides the Switch I have a PS5 with 100+ digital games, but almost all of them are actually PS4 games that I purchased in the past or near PS5 launch. Ever since having a kid, I have also been gaming mostly on my Switch due to portability and lighter games.
I feel that gaming will need to reinvent itself soon. With us fans growing older with less time to play and with kids that could enjoy gaming staying out of it due to extremely high prices, I don't think it's sustainable anymore.
Mine is pre-ordered and I can’t wait to play MK World day 1!!
I’m trying to finish Xenoblade Chronicles before then. Amazing game but it’s huge, I think I’m playing it for the past 2 months. Finally reached chapter 14 tonight.
GTA always had an insane range of settings on PC going from low-end all the way up to computers that didn't exist yet, so a port to Switch 2 is definitely possible.
Whether Rockstar thinks it's worth the effort though, that's another matter. Personally, with the high cost of AAA game development and the very likely huge number of players on Switch 2, it sounds like a good idea to me.
I went full digital with my games ever since the PS4 generation so that won’t affect me personally. It’s not nice for those that appreciate physical media though, especially for preservation purposes.
That said, from a business perspective, Nintendo’s solution is brilliant. It’s a lot better than a code in a box, it doesn’t tie the game to a single account, it allows retailers to continue to sell physical media as an alternative to direct digital purchases and the logistics are likely a lot cheaper.
Still waiting for the pre-order date in my country, but given the price I can’t justify any accessories for now. I’ll just keep my Pro Controller until I can afford Pro 2. In the future I also want an MicroSD card, but it’s not a must-have for now (unlike the Switch that lauched with barely enough storage for a single game).
Never played GameCube, but I did play some of these 3rd party games on PS2 at the time. My wish is that more exclusive games are included so that I can finally experience them for the first time.
Thankfully I already got a 4K TV due to PS5 so I'm good to go. The annoying part will be changing the HDMI cable, since new TVs are so thin that they're too close to the wall. Well, that and smart features (Samsung keeps wanting to convince me to stream games when all I want is to click on the Switch icon).
I'm honestly surprised by how well it runs and looks on Switch 2, regardless of compromises. Definitely worth a purchase to play on the go. Only slightly concerned that if Switch 2 is already reaching its limits for 3rd party on day 1, what can we expect for the next 6-8 years?
@JimNorman Also worth noting for NL readers - the whole 7 weeks to port gossip is fake. The correct info as stated by DF is that the build in these events is 7 weeks old.
I agree that the best MK is the one you mostly played with friends. For me that would be the very first one in SNES.
However, I'm really excited about this one due to the non-stop racing, the reversed tracks depending on where you start, jumping against the walls, the cartoon-y looks and animations. As always it'll be great to play with friends, but this iteration has potential to be fun solo/online too (Knockout Tour is the best kind of chaos).
I wonder how long it will take for me to get a Switch 2. No news about when pre-orders will start here and we still have no clue how many units will be available after launch date either. =/
From a gameplay standpoint, this is the best Mario Kart in ages, I'm so looking forward to it. And I don't usually play Mario Kart for long. World's Knockout Tour and connected races look chaotic in the very best way though, so I'm in!

I totally forgot about this! DK Bananza and Pactroidvania in the same month?? My poor wallet…
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles Dev Achieved 19% Profit Increase Last Financial Year
I can’t wait for their next game! Xenoblade became my favorite RPG series ever.
I would also pay for Switch 2 Edition upgrades to XC2 and XC3, brilliant games that deserve improved graphics and performance.
Re: Poll: What's Your Switch (2) Game Of The Year So Far?
Mario Kart World and Cyberpunk are both GOTY contenders so far, but I think the award will go to DK Bananza or Metroid Prime 4!
Re: Here Are The Square Enix Switch Games You Can Play On Switch 2 Right Now
Hopefully they can now release the full FFXV instead of the weird pocket edition. Would definitely buy it again to play on the go.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Switch 2's Screen? Because Some People Certainly Aren't
Never had the OLED, the NS2 screen is gorgeous and a huge upgrade. It’s also far less of a gap in quality from my 4k TV to the portable screen.
An OLED screen would obviously be better but, come on, the NS2 screen is gorgeous in person.
Re: Poll: So, What's Your Favourite Course In Mario Kart World?
They’re all such brilliant courses that I wish we had at least 2 laps on each. Maybe Nintendo could patch this.

@Tempestryke You do realize you can patch the software that is draining the battery, right?

Mine arrived yesterday and so far I only played docked. A bit too soon for this poll, I think, but ask again in a few weeks! 🙃
