Re: Talking Point: How Long Does Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Take To Beat, Really?

RenanLK

I suck at finishing games. I often end up loving the game, then something in my life steal the focus on the game, weeks later I'm not that interested anymore to come back to the game, and a new game comes up that I really wanna play. Repeat.

I do actually finish some games a years after buying, though, for some reason.

That said, conceptually for me, not every game has an ending, it needs one or more campaigns/stories to have an ending. So when the campaigns/stories are over, the game is finished. Every other optional activity I consider as post-game content. So online, often competitive games are never finished, unless you consider the servers being shutdown as an ending.

Re: Hands On: Triangle Strategy Delivers Deep Turn-Based Combat To Match Its Incredible Art

RenanLK

Demo put me off a little, I was excited for this one, now I'm not sure if it's for me...

Battles are as good as I could expect, no trouble there. I also love the art design. The main issue is the pace: it's extremely slow. Takes forever to reach the next battle.

Also VO has some weird acting and they make the long story segments even slower. We can read the text faster. Never thought I would say this for a game, but they should have kept VO only on specific importat events.

Re: Exp. Share Can't Be Turned Off In The Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes

RenanLK

I pretty much use a single Pokémon for 90%+ of the battles, so Exp Share on from the start has been a blessing since it was introduced. At least I see the evolutions of different Pokémon in my party.

That said, Game Freak could add it as an option for others who may enjoy the grinding that I find boring. Most games don't really offer optional quality-of-life enhancements, so I suppose that's their excuse.

Re: Talking Point: Remember When People Thought Switch Would Fail?

RenanLK

@Specter_of-the_OLED Well, PlayStation numbers their consoles since the beginning and customers are not confused about it. Perhaps Wii U was a poor name, but I don't think naming it Nintendo Switch 2 would necessarily mean Nintendoomed.

Either way, they can name it whatever they want as long as it's a hybrid console with their games on it, including backwards compatibility, hehe. =)

Re: Talking Point: Remember When People Thought Switch Would Fail?

RenanLK

The only thing that botters me still on Switch are the controllers. It's like Nintendo didn't care about ergonomics at all, too small, hard to hold for long portable sessions. I hope the next iteration of Nintendo Switch comes with better ergonomics.

And my biggest concern for the future is how Nintendo is going to handle Nintendo as a platform opposed to separate generations. One of my greatest loves about PlayStation 5 is that Sony finally embraced PlayStation as a platform. I can play all my PS4 games on PS5 - I even buy new releases for PS4, since now publishers don't bother releasing a separate version if they're not really using the new hardware (looking at you Neo: TWEWY). I hope Nintendo Switch is only the beginning, and that we can happily carry our digital library to Switch 2.

Re: Round Up: The Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Reviews Are In

RenanLK

I loved this game back in the day, but I'm not sure about purchasing it again, given the bad impression that Mario 3D All-Stars left me. Well, at least Skyward Sword actually has some QoL improvements. I'd rather buy Wind Waker though, if it ever comes to Switch, since I didn't play it yet.

Re: Round Up: Here Are The First "Hands-On" Impressions Of The Nintendo Switch OLED

RenanLK

I mostly use Switch in handheld mode. To be honest, I always loved Nintendo portables, while PlayStation replaced Nintendo on my TV for years until the Switch came around - still, I prefer playing Nintendo on the go, not sure why, it just feels better and right.

Even so, I can't justify upgrading just for a bigger OLED screen. Maybe if I were to gift mine to my niece, then get the new one. Which is not a bad idea, actually.

Re: Introducing Pokémon Legends: Arceus, An Open-World Prequel To Diamond And Pearl

RenanLK

I'm really excited about this Pokémon! I hope they innovate in the battle system, though.

I mean, when I play a Pokémon game the first thought is always "I want to catch all of them and train them for battles". Then after a while, I'm completely bored with use-the-same-attack-with-your-super-powerful-starter-forever (aka battles). I wish they added live battles, with multiple Pokémon at once and you had to react strategically to what was going on. Maybe each Pokémon could feel completely different too. And raise the difficulty please. That would be my ask.

Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Tops "Best Seller" Chart On Amazon, As Pre-Orders Sell Out

RenanLK

I love this game. It's one of my favorite Zelda games, despite its lack of difficulty. However, I'm not falling for the same trap again. I paid full price on Super Mario 3D All-Stars since I love 3D Mario games, only to find out that my nostalgic glasses were making me think it would play as good as Odyssey.

Sorry Nintendo, but I'll wait for video reviews on this one before deciding to pick it up.

Re: Talking Point: There's Never Been A Better Time For Gaming Consumers, Nor A Worse Time For Gaming Innovation

RenanLK

@WillQuan Some good points. 30/40mps is a high speed in Brazil though, it's quite unusual for someone to have it. Not to mention any speed here is pretty unstable.

I was wondering how Steam is going to be affected by this push to cloud gaming. I mean, if it's all going to work in computers and I can purchase and play games via Steam, might as well stick to that instead of subscriptions.

Re: Talking Point: There's Never Been A Better Time For Gaming Consumers, Nor A Worse Time For Gaming Innovation

RenanLK

Let me try and explain my fear with cloud-based gaming.

Once upon a time, there was Netflix. A single streaming service with a huge variety of films and series to watch. Then Netflix started producing original content, fantastic! Then other companies realized they could make money with their own streaming services and boom: we now have HBO Go, Disney+, Netflix, Amazon, and the list goes on.

Essentially we went from "rent/buy the films and series you enjoy" to "stream all the films and series you enjoy by subscription" to "pay more than you would annually purchasing the films and series with multiple subscriptions".

Innovation itself will still find a way. We can still have unique devices and controllers to play multiple games. The main issue is that eventually we're gonna have every single publisher with its own subscription-based cloud platform.

Re: Nintendo Switch Launches In Brazil With More Than 100 Games Available Day One

RenanLK

I bought mine in US, but I'm purchasing games through Loja Nintendo as mentioned in the article (which is like eShop but exclusive to browsers, not sure why they don't offer a proper eShop). Glad Nintendo is back, though, I hope they're successful now that all consoles are pretty much with similar prices.

As for Sega still being a thing, honestly, I have no idea why people still think that, haha. PlayStation 2 was a huge hit here (still somewhat is due to piracy and social contrast in different regions of the country), but we're gamers by heart, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were also a huge hit. Nintendo unfortunately lost its space to PlayStation and Xbox.

If you were to look statistically, I believe most gamers play in their smartphones in Brazil due to lower prices. In console space, PlayStation leads.

Re: Poll: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Is Out Today On Switch, Are You Getting It?

RenanLK

I purchased it earlier than I would because I'm a huge Super Mario fan. However, and this is a big however, I don't recommend paying full price for this. Nintendo was really lazy with this package - you can get a much better performance unofficially with emulation.

  • Super Mario 64 is stuck with 4:3 and has no side images at all (think SNES Online on Switch).
  • Super Mario 64 and Sunshine run in 30fps, but kinda feel lower than that many times.
  • Camera works exactly the same way as in the original games, so expect frustration when attempting to use the right analog.
  • Opening screen and main menu feel uninspired.

On the Pro side of things, Galaxy was a well done remaster, the controller works nicely, it runs in 60fps and graphics/animation/sound are all great. Odyssey is still leagues ahead, but Galaxy was a well done remaster anyway.

These are 3 amazing games, so even without proper improvements, they're worth playing. But if you have them already, stick to what you have IMO.

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Ditch Physical Media With A 'Switch Lite?'

RenanLK

Short answer: No!

We know from other media that physical will never die. There is an audience for it.

But that's not even the main reason why a 'Switch Lite' can't drop physical, though. The thing is, aside from the biggest markets, Nintendo has no digital store; most of - if not all - Latin America depends on physical games to play. I wish there was a brazilian eShop, but two years in its life, Nintendo still didn't bother.

PlayStation and Xbox are closer to a digital-only future, and even then I don't believe they will completely drop physical media. That's because PlayStation won't drop it, forcing Microsoft to keep it as well.

Re: Random: Brazil's President Just Used Sonic The Hedgehog Music In A Video Message

RenanLK

I won't comment on the subject matter.

As a brazilian, though, I'd like to make a formal request for you, NintendoLife, to avoid talking about Bolsonaro in your news, particularly when your video is actually his propaganda. Perhaps for a lot of users it will just be random words in a foreign language with Sonic music in the background. For brazilians... Well, I'll hold my thoughts to avoid discussions. He is a sensitive topic to say the least, and increased the polarization in Brazil. I know the intent was an entertaining video, but it happens to be offensive for many brazilians (while also being exciting for many others). It also has nothing to do with gaming news. Please, NintendoLife, avoid it if you can.

Thanks!

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Countdown - Considering the Joy-Con

RenanLK

Although I really enjoy the tech in these controllers, I'm worried they aren't getting any real use in most games. Sure, Just Dance, early titles like ARMS and party games made by Nintendo are gonna use some of its features, but 90+% of games are absolutely not gonna use anything but the buttons and full rumble (I'm including Nintendo's biggest franchises here). Zelda might use everything in 2022, but that's pretty much it, IMO...

Makes me wonder if investing in this tech instead of focusing exclusively on buttons and the hybrid aspect of the console was a good idea. :/

Re: Poll: A Week On, How Do You Feel About the Nintendo Switch?

RenanLK

I've been thinking about the Switch this week and there is this doubt that keep coming back to my mind... What if the Switch is not a hybrid (as in play portable and console games), what if it is a console that also plays on the go ans that's it? I mean, part of the appeal is the possibility of a main Pokémon game and other portable entries coming to Switch, but considering what Nintendo keeps saying about it being a console first and I believe Reggie said something about it being a console that allows you to take your console games with you.

If that's the case, Switch might take a hit in its sales; although I like the idea of a next portable to 3DS instead of Switch. Nintendo has always taken a horizontal approach to its portables, IMO the lack of power asks for more creativity in games and no one can say Nintendo portables lack 3rd party support.

Do you guys think that "portable games" are coming to switch?

Re: Breaking Down the Nintendo Switch Online Service Details

RenanLK

Since we don't get to keep the games, they could "give" 10+ games from different consoles each month instead of one. As for using smartphone for online services, I think it's a really smart idea; voice chat and other features will use the smartphone processing power instead of the Switch's.

Re: Video: These Five Titles Would Be Perfect on the Switch

RenanLK

Well, aside from what is rumoured or confirmed to be coming (and possible Wii U ports), I'd love to play:

1. DONKEY KONG COUNTRY: against Kremlings (!) where you actually play with different Kongs as we did in SNES instead of DK only.
2. KINGDOM HEARTS: the entire series, please! Some entries have been on Nintendo portables before, so it could happen.
3. LUIGI'S MANSION III: I barely played the first one (but I loved the little I did) and the second one was awesome.
4. TOMB RAIDER / RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER: add all future games in the series as well. Nintendo needs more action/adventure realistic games and the first one was simply perfect.
5. FINAL FANTASY XV: because a son needs to come back home eventually, might as well be now. Add all future games too, thanks.
Xtra. FIRE EMBLEM: best strategy/rpg game ever.

There are lots more, but these were the 6 non-obvious ones that came to mind.
