Yikes. I could think of several articles for all 3 console makers that could highlight their flaws, mistakes, and cloning habits. But none of it serves as anything except click generators and fanboy arguments.
Sounds like a definite texture resolution drop, which is fine for a game like this. The smoother the gameplay the better, and a smaller file size is nice too.
@SEGATA_DREAMCAST Yeah, sorry I didn't mean to reply directly to you about that, I was making my original comment based on what the other person had said about sub based games and such, apologies.
@frabbit I think PSPlus is, mainly for the amount of games I receive for the cost. I haven't been subscribed to Xbox live for a few years but the games look equally decent for the price of admission.
@SEGATA_DREAMCAST I guess that was a bad example since I haven't played it in a few years. Either way, you have to pay to play on their servers in their game, regardless of platform. The cost isn't exclusive to PC.
@NewAdvent And if by some miracle WoW or FF14 comes to Switch, you're still paying that $15 a month AND a yearly fee to use the online services for the system, so your argument makes zero sense.
Welcome to this decade Nintendo, I'll see you in a few years online once you get through the initial teething issues you'll experience even though you have plenty of references on what not to do
They cause many problems honestly, as most "journalists" aren't able to convey their thoughts into what fits into a scoring set of rules. You see it all the time where a review "reads like a 9" but they give it a 7. I'm ok with essential/recommended, but it would also be nice to have some background on the reviewer in terms of what kind of games they prefer. All too often someone reviews a game in a genre or playstyle that they really don't like, and it sets odd tones for reviews overall.
Great article Damien, you've hit all the major pain points that really needed to be addressed a few months ago with this online service.
I'm not buying it, as I don't play games online with my switch at all, and I have an NES mini already. Plus, given the lack of info, i have very little confidence in Nintendo's ability to offer a stable online service based on what I experienced during the Wiiu online days. No info on what has been upgraded, how many servers there are, etc.
They can't even get Fortnite running well on Switch, maybe NL should be looking more into that before giving all the anti matters in here another reason to spout off their twisted logic in 30+ nonsense comments.
"certainly open to riding off the success of competitor platforms"
I don't see anywhere in the provided quote where he mentioned riding off the success of either Nintendo or Microsoft. In fact, all it says is they will continue to play to THEIR strengths, and they're glad other platforms exist for multiple genres of games to exist. Seriously, is this guy really this desperate to create clickbait?
You mean Epic, the company that took their much hyped and failed game and turned it into a BR with very little knowledge of how their own internal systems work, is unable to optimize their game on lower spec hardware? I've got a news flash for you all, the game runs terribly on all platforms no matter the specs. They have no idea how to optimize their game, only how to continue adding skins so they make money.
@NEStalgia If it's a small company I can see that argument, but this is Blizzard/Activision, the same people who thought it was a good idea to put a real money auction house in the game at first, so this game doesn't get a Switch Tax pass from me. If they sold this game at $40 they would recoup their costs very quickly I would think.
Another article meant to fan the flames of those who read the title, skip to the comments, and start defending nintendo blindly and bashing whoever said whatever they read in the cherry picked sub header.
When I see comments like " This guy needs to get over his ego, his studio has never done anything noteworthy and as far as I can tell they never even worked on anything original to themselves" you can tell zero article reading was done here
Need to see how well Nintendo's online holds up before jumping on this one. D3 is one of those games where a slight hiccup during an online session and it's over.
It's not so much that these games are graphically demanding, it's more that the engine they're running on is not optimized well at all. If they tried porting these to the switch, I'd expect to see a lot of people claiming they got third degree burns while playing in handheld mode....
PC only for games like this, mega man, 20XX, hollow knight. I don't want to even think about losing a run due to shoddy performance. Games are cheaper on PC too.
They didn't have a plan for a timeline in the 80's, they just rolled with whatever story they could come up with. Having said that, their explanation is still miles better than anything Kojima has ever come up with to explain characters in his games
@Indielink I got a really good deal on an X1 Elite a year ago and it's my go-to for most games that require a controller. The extra bumpers are really nice and you can swap profiles on the fly, it's really nice.
I'll hold out for a Diablo 3 port before I drop $40 on something held together by "sticky tape and a prayer" that still gets a 7/10 when other games get absolutely destroyed when they have half the bugs and are a fraction of the age.
@Indielink Well everyone is entitled to their opinion. I enjoy the X1 and DS4 controllers equally, if anything the WiiU controller is an abomination for me.
Can't wait for this to come state-side with a patch. I'm about ready to trade in my Pro controller too, there's something....off....about the Dpad on it compared to all previous Nintendo controllers. Going from that to say, a WiiU pro controller or a DS4 is night and day.
Not only do I not agree with that statement, I would moreso say that every single indie developer that creates a game in the "16-bit retro" look just to try to stand out has worn very thin over the past few years.
Makes sense when you factor in the cheap plastic shell, and a very small fan being asked to disperse wayyyyy too much heat for it's size, and the fact that you're constantly attaching/removing peripherals that cause strain on the entire body of the tablet.
Guess I should just be thankful I keep mine docked, let it cool down before packing it up, and never remove the joycons, no cracks on mine.
Having loved the mutant league games on genesis, I picked this up on PC when it launched, and it was disappointing to be honest. It plays like a really bad NFL Blitz clone, and there's way, way too many stops in between plays. I'd say watch some gameplay online before dropping money on this, it might not be what you were expecting.
