Re: Video: Discussing the Possibility of Spyro Reignited Trilogy Coming to Switch

RedMageLanakyn

@BensonUii I agree that Tasuki is heavy handed, I've butted heads with him a couple times, but also keep in mind on average, an article over at PS tends to have maybe 30 comments, so it's a heck of a lot easier to moderate there than it is here.
I'm not going to dig through my own comment history, but i can think of quite a few times I mentioned Switch or PC in relation to an article and didn't receive a warning of any type, so I'd say you're exaggerating a bit.

Edit: I didn't see @octane comment before posting my own, but yeah, basically what I was getting at.

Re: Video: Discussing the Possibility of Spyro Reignited Trilogy Coming to Switch

RedMageLanakyn

@BensonUii I guess we have different views, which of course is OK, because I've always found the editors and mods here and at PS seem to be pretty even on stunts that I would consider unprofessional within the community. I guess I don't see too many of the bad comments, mainly because the first time I see one, I immediately ignore that person. Such a shame you can't do that with editors and mods.....

Re: Third-Party Nintendo Switch Docks Could Be Bricking Consoles

RedMageLanakyn

I've noticed since the 5.0 update that it takes significantly longer for my official dock to recognize the switch is in it. I've only ever used the official dock, and play 99% of the time docked, so it's pretty noticeable. Upwards of 10 seconds, and sometimes requires me to remove and reinsert it to be recognized.

Re: Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom Switch Pre-Orders Are Ten Times Stronger Than PS4

RedMageLanakyn

@rallydefault I've only been back to this site for the past couple weeks, but in that time I've seen a few questionable responses in the comments sections by the writers themselves.
So in terms of creating a spectacle on a public forum, the staff have definitely set a precedent, and have shown on more than one occasion that they respond directly (both positively and negatively) to comments on the site.
In terms of wanting to watch the world burn, for the internet in general, yeah that's the goal, but to be honest, some of the articles on this site seem to be more interested in pouring gas on that fire than making interesting things to read. It's a vicious cycle, since clickbait and controversy tends to bring out everyone, good and bad, all for the sake of clicks and visits.

Re: Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom Switch Pre-Orders Are Ten Times Stronger Than PS4

RedMageLanakyn

@rallydefault After everything you've said, I'll simply counter with this: Your work is a reflection of yourself. If your work is continously sloppy and incorrect, and you get paid to do it, you will get called out.

My attitude is that if I make a mistake at a job, please bring it to my attention. Clearly you and the writers here don't share that attitude. Like its a cardinal sin to spend 5 minutes double checking your own work before submitting it.

Re: Devious Dungeon Will Soon Plunder Switch's Depths For Loot

RedMageLanakyn

@SLIGEACH_EIRE It seems like every single game that is announced by a "yes" from a dev with virtually no other information gets it's own article, which seems unnecessary. Maybe a weekly wrap up article "here's what was announced for Switch this week" would be more appropriate. I don't know how to truncate that to fit in your checklist, but "check"

Re: Soapbox: My Nintendo's Updated Rewards Scheme Is Anything But Rewarding

RedMageLanakyn

"especially during the darker days of Wii U where Nintendo was forcibly pushed into the background while Sony and Microsoft tried to outshout one another with specs and exclusives"

Not only is this not remotely related to why the wiiu was "forcibly" pushed into the background at all, it's a really petty cheap shot at the two companies who did things better. Stay classy, Soapbox Life.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Year One: A Review

RedMageLanakyn

I received a Switch for Christmas and it's been ok for me. Still hasn't replaced PC or PS4 in my daily lineup, but had some fun with Odyssey. My constant (and personal) gripes with the system have always been the joycons and the lack of a Dpad, which I've largely ignored by playing docked 99% of the time. I have most of the big hitters on WiiU, so I've only really purchased Odyssey and a few indies.
Interested in the RE revelations pack so I can relive some RE4 Wii level gameplay, but other than that it sits in it's case more often than not.

@Tigrinus1975 There's an ignore button, so reading his comments everyday is a double dose of masochism on your part, because you read them and choose not to use the ignore button.

Re: Video: Here's What NBA 2K18 Looks Like on the Switch

RedMageLanakyn

@PlywoodStick Logged back in to turn off notifications since I'm done here, but I'll at least reply to your comment. There's no bridge burning here. I have no personal connection to anyone or anything here. This account is in fact the first and only account I've ever made in my adult life, and I've only discussed here and at Push Square. My decision not to come here is because I think NL is going in a bad direction, and honestly some of the staff rub me the wrong way with their attitudes, work ethic, (or lack thereof, how hard is it to proofread and check your work before publishing it?) and willingness to do just about anything for clicks, ethically right or wrong. Mario PhD feels the same way, we're not on opposite sides in terms of that, and he's been here way longer than me and can see it. You can flourish it up with nihilism if you want, but the truth is, i don't like what i see, so i'm moving on, that's it. My notifications are turned off, and I will not be returning or responding, so respond if you'd like, I won't be reading it though.

@molkom Nintendoeverything is a very simplistic site that gives a lot of news, stats, and reviews. I don't know what their community is like because I'm not reading comments there. I'm happy just reading news and info without sorting through pages of controversy and clickbait.

Re: Video: Here's What NBA 2K18 Looks Like on the Switch

RedMageLanakyn

@Damo I'll be joining MarioPhD in looking for other sites, and I'm sure based on our past interactions you'll really be sad to see me go. /s

As a site, your actions with this game over the past week have proven you to be bipolar at best; criticizing and making fun of the game at every turn, yet afraid to put a score on a review because you're worried about metacritic ratings and the internet's backlash. It's too much of a bad precedent, giving a company leniency for charging $60 for a broken product, and knowing how cocky you and some of your colleagues are, you're betting that the sheer amount of polarizing and controversial articles you come up with will outweigh those that are disgusted with your policies. I'd wish you good luck, but you clearly don't need it, you seem perfectly fine crossing whatever lines need crossing as long as it brings in those clicks and views.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

RedMageLanakyn

@scully1888 You're right, you're not defending 2K, you're doing something much worse; giving them and any other dev the ability to ship something broken and not suffer any consequence on this site as long as they can claim they can fix it. Day one patches are commonplace, but they didn't even have one ready, because they somehow missed something like this during QA? What a line of BS.

It's a bad, bad precedent to set, and personally I've lost a good deal of respect for this site and it's writers for taking this route.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

RedMageLanakyn

I applaud you guys for saying hold off on buying, but you really do need to attach a score to this. They shipped it this way, they deserve the bad score if it ships broken. If they care so much about Metacritic, they should've fixed things before launch.

PC Gamer gave Dishonored 2 the same lieniency when it shipped broken on PC, and it really disappointed me to the point that I barely visit that site anymore. That's not a threat, but it is the reality if you're going to start holding review scores to give devs a grace period to fix things that were unacceptable to ship with in the first place.

Re: Super Mario Odyssey's File Size is Only a Little Bigger Than an NBA 2K18 Save File

RedMageLanakyn

@GraveLordXD People here have already stated their save files are definitely nowhere near 5gb, so that needs to stop becoming a point of contention. I'm not saying nintendo isn't good at compression, or that other companies aren't doing their work to make things smaller. But let's be honest here, we're comparing an open world, 1080p game to a sports simulation with 4K textures, lots of audio, physics, models, etc. I have no doubt there will be more fun in the 5gb of Odyssey than the however many GBs 2K18 is, but for those that needs their b-ball on the go, time to pay the micro SD piper.

Re: Super Mario Odyssey's File Size is Only a Little Bigger Than an NBA 2K18 Save File

RedMageLanakyn

I wouldn't even say apples to oranges is a good comparison, this is apples to bowling shoes.

Edit: By the way, what i meant by this, as others have stated below, is that you can't compare a game like Mario Odyssey to an NBA simulation. They're leagues apart in terms of graphics, audio, physics, etc. I'm not going to go into the tech specs, since others have already done that, but yeah, it's not Nintendo's compression making the difference here. It's that you're comparing a simple (by comparison) open world game to a realistic sports simulation.
