@Boidoh Instead of treating it like the definition, it's being used as a substitute for a phrase like "perfect example". It started with the IGN review, and since then I've seen it pop up everywhere. Not a huge deal, just annoys me a little.
"Even though we love Wii U and had great success on the console, there’s no denying that Nintendo Switch has firmly taken its place by now."
I mean, it's not like there's much of a choice when the company that created it publicly hung it in the town square for all to see. Given their relationship, this almost sounds like something a nintendo PR rep asked them to throw in just to drive the point home.
$80? Is that a typo? Seems a bit much, especially considering it comes with fewer games than the NES classic. After scalpers stock up, it'll be $250 minimum.
I tried out comix zone and sonic 1 over the weekend and they played just fine on my phone, no slowdown or anything. Guess I have one of the lucky hardware/OS combos....
@SH007ME In terms of pacing it reminds me a lot of the MMX games, very fast, lots of shooting, etc. For the price it's really hard to beat, and i hope when they get it finished they can make the jump to consoles.
I'm not even going to bother wasting time spamming F5 on amazon or wherever. I still have an SNES and a bunch of games, and emulators. If I feel the need to scratch the SNES itch I'll haul everything out of storage.
Looks nice, but i'm pretty much done with collector's and special editions. The last one I bought was twilight princess on WiiU, and before that the Fallout 4 pip boy. Just usually don't pan out to something amazing for the money you dish out.
I don't know why people seem so surprised this is launching at full price. Bethesda seems to have put a lot of time and effort into it, and whether or not people like it, that will be their claim as to why the price is so high. Don't expect a perfect experience though. They're called Bugthesda for a good reason.....
@roadrunner343 It looks fantastic, unfortunately it's....kickstarter. Even if it does get funded, the chances of it actually launching this year are infinitesimally small. I funded a Kickstarter for replacement nintendo 64 controller analog sticks that had a 3 month launch, and here I am almost 2 years later, still waiting...
Maybe these guys will have their act together, i hope they do. If something like this comes out and does it right, i'll jump on a switch.
What a shame, I'm not even going to bother with a download at this point. Really makes you wonder how something like this gets tested, (if at all) and how they thought it would be acceptable to potentially paying customers.
I stopped playing a long time ago because I live in a low population area, and got tired of walking around town catching pidgeys and rattatas. The highest cp pokemon I've ever seen in one of the gyms here was maybe 1300, and it was a vaporeon.
@NEStalgia Oddly enough I played arms for about an hour straight last night using the joycons and motion controls and it felt great. I know they'll never make a bigger version of them, (joycon XL?) maybe a third party company could do it though.
@joytendo22 Those do look nice, and i might actually pick those up to see if they help. Nothing to lose really, if they don't work my friend will keep them!
@roadrunner343 I have molded grips for both my 3DS and vita, which make them playable for probably an hour before I start cramping up. I have giant hands! I absolutely love the switch and wiiu pro controllers though, I can play on those for hours.
@brutalpanda Like I had mentioned above, I really can't use the switch in handheld mode for more than a few minutes before my hands get cramped. I only have 1 TV in my house, so putting the dock elsewhere is a no go unless I also get another TV, which I also have no room for. I just need a bigger house!
@roadrunner343 Unfortunately, I just can't get comfortable using the switch in handheld mode. After about 10 minutes, my hands get cramped from the joycons, and i really don't have a good tabletop setup to make it worthwhile either. I need to be comfortable when gaming, and it's very hard to do when holding a system, which is why my 3DS/Vita are mostly played in hotels or during trips.
I'm in the fortunate position in having a friend that owns a switch, lives close by, and loves local co-op, so I've had plenty of time playing one, and actually got to try out arms last night (wasn't bad, need to see more than local 1v1 though.)
Owning a PS4, Xbox 1, Gaming PC, WiiU, and 3DS/Vita and only having a few hours a day to game means literally having to pick a game and try to make some progress. That is, of course, assuming no one wants to play Overwatch, BF1, etc.
Not bragging or complaining, but I really don't have the room or the time for another console in my life, especially with so few games at the moment that are exclusive to the system, and can be had elsewhere cheaper.
On a side note, the joycons, even after probably 20+ hours of use, are not comfortable, or "cool". They're small and very uncomfortable, to the point that I bought my own 8bitdo controller just to bring to my friend's house for MK8 or bomberman.
I think in order for me to "need" a switch, I need to see more exclusive games. Prime 4 pretty much has me onboard, and Odyssey is shaping up as well, but i feel like I can safely wait a year or two before I need to pick one up. But it's currently not enough for me to clear off a spot in my schedule, or on my entertainment center.
@rjejr Yeah, they should pick one 3DS and 2DS product and eliminate the rest. Having 4 or 5 products that all basically do the same thing out at the same time next to the Switch will confuse A LOT of parents doing Christmas shopping.
@rjejr At $150 I was at least expecting the inclusion of a true second analog stick, but that nub is a no go for me. Even after modifying it on my N3DSXL, it still feels weird to use.
One of my friends has the RDS deluxe travel case and it's really nice. Special cutouts for the dock, switch, pro controller, extra room for cables, and more.
Well, it's progress at least. If they could get it fully functional and able to recognize other controller slots, you would have a cheap alternative to joycons and pro controllers.
This game never really clicked with me, and at that price I don't think it'll ever be in my switch library. Pretty sure I got this exact game in a humble bundle for less than a dollar.
If they can't offer a rock solid 1080/60 docked, drop the resolution first. I'd rather not die or miss a jump due to harsh FPS spikes. Definitely happened a few times in BotW (on WiiU.)
I just watched the cinemassacre video on this last week and was very impressed. Obviously not for everyone, but for those that want the absolute best from their older games and can afford it.
@Jamotello I could see them using this game as a preorder bonus on Switch a year or two down the line for Prime 4. That's why I'm waiting, unless they release it on the cheap.
The switch didn't really surprise me either, and doesn't really have that "gotta have it" set of games yet that makes me want to purchase one anytime this year. But, one will be purchased, because let's face it, it has Nintendo games on it, which are near impossible to pass up.
As far as Nintendo being "adventurous" does he realize that for them, that would've meant building something along the lines of the PS4 Pro? Bucking current trends is their MO, so being adventurous would mean building a dedicated home console in 4K!
@KIRO If what @beazlen1 says is true, then there's nothing to worry about at all. First party Nintendo games tend to set the bar, so we might not only get a great metroid game, but one that will be revolutionary.
@KIRO The IP has always been strong, but certainly not as a good of a seller as say, Mario Kart or Zelda. The execution part worries me a little. Retro is not comprised of the same people that worked on the prime trilogy, so part of me could see this turning into a ME Andromeda situation (same studio, new engine, new staff, bad development, mediocre game). It would certainly be nice to have some info on how far along it is, who's developing it, the engine, etc.
@JaxonH Well we'll have to agree to disagree, because I don't see it as a "game" yet. It was a logo. I know there's no official rules or anything like that, I simply was expressing my thoughts on it.
I don't know how I feel about MP4 being allowed to count in the social media games mentions category. At this point, there is no game, just a logo. It'd be different if they would've dropped a 10 second trailer, but at this point it's more conceptual than Death Stranding.
One of the few games shown at E3 I was actually really excited about. Kind of confused by her statement though; does she want fans to create a petition to measure demand? Flood social media? Maybe some actual goals for a switch version should be set.
If they were smart, they would focus on making splatoon 2 into an esport instead of this. It's already well known, team based, and has tighter controls. Maybe arms 2 could focus on competition.
I'd say a B is a good overall score for MS, Sony, and Nintendo combined. A few surprises, a few disappointments, and a few things we were expecting. Solid all around.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm gonna stand up for Rocket League devs on this one, because the game certainly does not maintain a solid framerate at 1080 on PS4 or Xbox, so the fact that they got it running on what would be considered PS3/360 console tech is good enough for me to see they've put some effort into it.
Well, at least they didn't just slap something together after the C&D to try and cash in. This looks like a labor of love. I'll probably pick this up on 3DS if they guarantee it's not coming to switch. Not a big fan of double dipping anymore. I could see them including this as a preorder bonus for Prime 4 down the line.
Just gonna come out and say it: I would've been much more likely to buy a switch this year if they had detailed/released the VC service at E3 instead of Prime 4. Yes, i'm excited for it, but the term "in development" tells me I can wait another year or so before I feel the switch will become a necessity, whereas the VC would've got me on board a lot sooner. (provided they don't totally botch it)
Great that we know it's coming. I'm one of those people that has never really gotten excited enough to "freak out" over a video game, though I can see how others can get overwhelmed in a group like that. The closest I remember to ever doing that was sprinting up to my local games store when Diablo 2 came out to buy it!

@Boidoh Yeah, that's the definition. But as you can see, it's not being used properly at all. Just another buzzword.

There's also a game in early access on Steam called 20XX that plays like a rogue like megaman game, very fun.
Oh, and Inafune didn't "create" megaman. He refined the design created by someone else.
