@Vyacheslav333 I don't think it's required to buy the Japanese eShop version at all. The listing includes Japanese on the list of supported languages, should just run the game with Japanese text and voices if the console is set to Japanese. That's usually how those work. Unless you want to use the currency exchange to get a little discount on the price via the JP eShop then of course go that way.
Used to be really into Giant Bomb in the early days. Haven't been around it much since 2015, seems like every original member has long gone, so it's not the site I was a fan of, but still unfortunate news to hear.
It'll likely be a free upgrade for current owners considering how recent it's original release was. Just looking at the PS5 and Series X, most 3rd parties went the free upgrade route, unless it was something where there was brand new content which isn't the case here. Shadow Generations looks to be a simple resolution and framerate boost, and even Nintendo are making most of their own offerings of that kind for free. Also worth noting that Sonic Frontiers would let you download both a PS4 and PS5 version when you bought that game, they didn't have a paid upgrade there.
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S I don't know about what they might be adding to that version so could be a paid upgrade maybe?
@OorWullie @LastFootnote It's not like the average PS5/Series X game is running at native 2160p either. It's all about upscaling now, and Switch 2 honestly has an advantage there. DLSS being more proficient than FSR1-to-3 (4 is pretty much equal but not on consoles) or PSSR. The quality of the image is almost a separate thing from the pixel count now, depending on the upscale.
@Grumblevolcano Add to that that this will be a shadow drop announcement it would be best to wait until later if a Switch 2 version is planned, because it obviously can't be released tomorrow.
DF seemed pretty confident in saying none of the games shown were using DLSS. Maybe the build in the Direct and public demos were before CDPR added DLSS? Or they were wrong. They're usually good, but not perfect and they've been in the habit of downplaying Switch 2's capabilities for a long time.
@ottoecamn The PM didn't speak out against the game specifically. He said if tourists decided to deface shrines they should be dealt with according to the law.
@Suketoudara This is basically mirroring how they marketed Switch 1 in it's early days. Sell the new system to the older crowd with disposable income while the previous generation is sold to kids, parents and budget minded people.
@PikminMarioKirby The translations on the article are accurate. The narrative about this game's controversy in Japan and it's government are exaggerated, in particular the matter of the prime minister being 'outraged' at the game. Most people there don't care and Shadows sold modestly well for a western title.
@DashKappei We aren't. The price increase is because of inflation and poor exchange rates. The US will get an increase of it's own later, which will be due to the tariffs.
It was blatantly obvious from the price. Breath of the Wild remains £60 for the base game, the Switch 2 Edition is £70, so £10 for the upgrade. The DLC is what, £20?
It'll probably just be the same thing that happens if you hold the capture button during a game that doesn't support it, a little pop up in the corner of the screen for 3 seconds.
@TechaNinja allegedly there are only 32/64GB cards. Likely due to Switch 2 cards using the same type of tech as Micro SD Express for the high speeds. You cannot get Express cards for that size because it's not practical, you wouldn't get any savings on the cost.
Switch Ridge Racer reminds me of an old Doctre81 video. I think it was in development by the same Bandai Namco studio that was originally making Prime 4.
@-wc- Not "insufficiently attached to the point of falling off", but there's been times in handheld mode where one will be slightly dislodged and I would need to reconnect it. Can be a serious issue for online play obviously since the action won't be paused for those 5 seconds.
@datamonkey Not true, CD Projekt Red said they went for the highest capacity card for Cyberpunk, which is 64GB. If you mean SD cards, those are pricey. 256GB cards are £90 right now. I don't think many people want £150 games right now, so keeping the maximum size to 64 is appropriate.
@marktehshark69 I agree to be honest. If a Switch port of WWHD turned down the bloom and added back the cel shading it'd be perfect - that and 60fps to match the other recent re-releases.
@Bunkerneath Have you not heard of VAT? I'm assuming you're from the UK. The US retail price doesn't include sales tax, because it differs in percentage depending on the different states. Add 20% to that £347, and you get £417. Switch 2 pre-tax price is a little cheaper in the UK compared to the US.
@Jeronan @rjejr @Alpha008 Leaked specs from shipping data said Switch 2 GPU is 3 teraflops, which is 10x higher than the 300 gigaflops of Switch 1. The numbers Nvidia are claiming track.
@link3710 From a storage perspective it would also get ridiculous for NSO Gamecube on Switch 1 over time. At 1 to 2 gigabytes per game, plus the article confirms EU versions are included as well. Even just this launch lineup of 3 games will be about 6GBs, 20 when you account for the other 7 currently confirmed games. While cheap SD cards are obviously plentiful I'd imagine they're mindful of the 32GB of storage being all that many people have.
Well yeah, FF7 Remake is a 100GB game. No way that was fitting on a Switch game card. Not sure how this is worse than the download code only boxes? If you still need a card to boot the game, you can probably resell these games later on? You can't do that with a code.
@imgrowinglegs In theory yes, it's just less likely to happen because the sticks are much bigger than the Joycon. Unless it's using tech like hall effect, all analogue sticks have the potential to drift with time and use.
I love the implication that there's a team of people having to play through every single Switch 1 game, including all of the asset flip AI slop and hentai puzzle games (none of which are listed in the games with issues PDFs yet in case you're wondering). Those guys aren't being paid enough.
@Truegamer79 Not that the Switch couldn't handle GameCube. The way that Switch Online apps work is all of the games come downloaded at once. That's fine for NES games, but when GameCube games at 1 to 2GB each, that starts to become pretty absurd when most people will only have 32GB built in storage. Even with SD cards that's a significant amount you'll need to reserve for GameCube games.
To be honest I think the whole NSO retro app scheme needs a rethink for Switch 2 even with the increased storage. Let me be able to not have to download both PAL and NTSC versions of N64 games, etc.
First impressions are always positive even for a lot of bad movies, then the reviews drop. The keyword they always use is "fun" instead of good. Hell, that first embedded tweet outright says explicitly that it is fun instead of good.
@wiiware audience scores aren't anymore reliable than critic ones frankly.

With the apparent lack of upgrade paths I'm kind of glad I missed the original release for this one and stuck with PPT1.

Not as much of an issue for 256GB as standard.

As long as it isn't a cheap scanline filter. The CRT and LCD filters on the other NSO apps were really good though so I'm sure it'll look nice.
