Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (4th May)

Olrun

Stardew valley called me back after a year without playing it, maybe the news about the 1.6 update sounded like mermaid songs for me (still playing on switch so no update yet). Started playing again last Sunday and been playing every free minute I had. During this week I got to grab the golden clock, complete the museum and the sent items collection, just missing three fishes and gotta star focusing on quests and decorating my farm. Happy gaming everyone!

Re: Pokémon-Like 'Coromon' Scores A Physical Switch Release, Pre-Orders Open Next Week

Olrun

@Pillowpants I remember there was a demo on steam and on Android some years ago, not sure if they're still available
@PateloDim it's a pokeclone, ya know what to expect. There's no gyms but something more like boss battles (one per type available). The pixel art and the animations are great and a nice highlight. There's battle tower and online for post-game as "shiny hunting" (colors depend on the stats), and you can customize the game any time you wish to (difficulty, healing after matches, randomization, nuzlocking...). Not a game for a GOTY but will give you a nice time

Re: Soapbox: I Thought I'd Clear My Backlog In 2024, But The Switch Had Other Ideas

Olrun

Ironically 2024 is helping me clearing my backlog. The amount of released games since past year ended giving me almost anxiety and somehow it killed my interest in buying almost any game. But gaming mood was still present so I'm taking advantage to play backlog and other retro games I was interested and bought for years and never played. Of course there are games I plan to buy later this year (moonstone island I know you're coming at some point to switch and I'm waiting for you), but somehow I got more attracted to backlog this year.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (6th April)

Olrun

Just finished Steamworld Build, got a nice discount on GamePass through Amazon recently and I'm beating a nice amount of short games I really wanted to play but couldn't afford them all. On the side still playing Children of Mana in my old DS, I can't believe I dropped it when I was a teenager but at least I can enjoy it as an adult. Surely not playing at all this weekend as some friends are visiting.
Happy gaming everyone!

Re: Pokémon Fan Game Site, Relic Castle, Shut Down Following DMCA Takedown Notice

Olrun

The major problem with pokemon fangames is that a lot of them use official assets. Getting them is just possible dumping the games to a PC and we all know what thinks Nintendo/GF about this.
I didn't know about this page, but if it hosted tools and fangames that used said assets DMCA could be valid.
On the other hand, congrats GF for destroying Pokémon community once more. Some day you'll destroy your own offices by mistake.

Re: Talking Point: What's Your Perfect Sunday Morning Game?

Olrun

Most of the time I just play whatever I'm playing right now, but sometimes I stick with something turn based that allows me to enjoy some good coffee at my own peace. This weekend I'm playing Siralim Ultimate which fits really good to it, and surely next weeks will go with Dragon Quest Monsters joker which I was lucky enough to find a second hand cheap copy.

Re: Random: New Pokémon Ad Positions 3DS As 'Retro', And The Internet Disagrees

Olrun

Let's think about this for a second.
Some people who are now 18+ played XY as kids. No teenagers. Kids.
I can't say USUM is retro as it feels quite recent buy XY on the other hand feels way older. And 3DS is discontinued since some years ago.
As someone who has been playing since Game Boy and PC with MS2 before windows exists it's difficult for me calling 3DS as retro, but oh God time really goes fast.

Re: Review: Splatoon 3: Side Order - An Addictive Roguelite Just Shy Of Excellence

Olrun

@Greatluigi as someone who has played quite a lot rogues, I'd say most of the games have the same bosses? If I recall correctly dead cells had the same bosses in each phase, hades had a bit of variation in some levels but most of the time bosses were the same... and just bringing some popular ones. Enter the gungeon and Slay the Spire both have 2-3 bosses for almost each phase, but final boss is always the same. Personally I have no trouble with a little amount of bosses, but that depends on the game.

Re: Pokémon Presents Announced For 27th February 2024

Olrun

My wishes:
No mainline this year, they should take some more time
Mystery dungeon
Rumble
More games added to NSO

Reality:
BW remake by ilca like previous remakes
Let's go johto because what is taking time
15 minutes of phone games we most don't care
No spinoff or something that most people will pass

Re: Nintendo Download: 15th February (North America)

Olrun

Really tempted for Bandle tale not gonna lie, but at the same time I want to continue with my backlog and replay some games. Apart of Splatoon DLC there's nothing for me so far this year so surely grabbing it on a later date.

Re: Talking Point: Is Knowing A Game's Ending Really That Bad?

Olrun

It really depends on the game and WHAT you discover from the ending. I mean, we all know Mario will defeat Bowser at the end, can it be considered a spoiler? But maybe it has a twist or the fight itself is special. At the end of the day a lot of games end like "day is saved guys you can continue with your life". I'm pretty sure that for most cases the general story is kind of more important.
There are examples as well. Outer Wilds stands out specially when you go fresh for it, same with narrative games.
We all know Kirby will save the day, but somehow I can say the true ending/boss is most of the times surprising and/or bizarre.

Re: Round Table: Let's Talk About Palworld - Comparisons, Controversy, 'Copying'

Olrun

@Tasuki actually digimon is older than pokemon and it was born from tamagotchi, so surely that's why they never had real troubles between each other.
@BLD it's said that a lot of dinossom, but personally I see a goodra with serperior pattern and lilligant flower. If I recall correctly there is another pal which looks more similar to meganium.

Re: Soapbox: Game Freak Could Actually Learn A Thing Or Two From Palworld

Olrun

@Cronodoug as someone who is tired for the status of lastest releases in general, I'm pretty sure it's not totally fault of GF. I mean - if you check what gets more money from pokemon is actually merchandising, if I recall correctly games are around (or less) 25%. TPC treats games more as a promotion for new creatures for more merchandising, and they need to line up with anime and movies, which makes a stupid schedule for developing.
I'm not excusing GF for the status of the games as they are the ones doing the games, but something tells me I don't want to be on their place and that at this point surely they are ashamed as well.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 13th)

Olrun

Klonoa and Pikmin 2 for me! Maybe Roguebook or Into the breach as well.
@MischiefMaker don't worry! It takes a while getting the first run complete, but once you do you'll start to complete a lot of them. It gets easier once you start unlocking stuff, but my recommendation is getting unlocked bullet passive items (fire, fat, magical bullets...) as soon as you can. These will be your best friends in the long term.
