Re: Poll: How Many 3DS Consoles Have You Owned?

NerdyBoutKirby

I have…
1. a cyan 3DS from 2012
2. a cobalt blue 3DS (that my cousin lost!) since the R button broke on cyan
3. a New 3DS (small) upgrade that I bought with summer job money
4. a broken black JP-region 3DS for attempting repairs
5. a sky blue JP-region 3DS from when the Japanese eShop started sputtering
6. a white and yellow JP-region 2DS that I homebrewed specifically to preserve LM2’s ScareScraper mode

Will I someday find another 3DS? Perhaps… hopefully with Smash DLC so I can homebrew it to preserve that game’s online mode!

I’m bothered by the fact that he didn’t state whether or not he saved and will donate all the update data for the games. If you download Smash for 3DS in 2023, do you get the latest version automatically? Or do you have to manually update it after receiving the original file? Never done that.

He missed the 3DS Themes, but that’s a different mission, I suppose.

Re: Feature: 19 Game Boy Games We'd Love To See On Nintendo Switch Online

NerdyBoutKirby

I have most if not all of the GB/C games I want physically. But here are some suggestions:
Kirby's Pinball Land
Kirby's Dream Land 2
Donkey Kong Land 3
Chalvo 55
Revenge of the 'Gator
Game & Watch Gallery
Kwirk
Amazing Tater
Spud's Adventure
Alleyway
Perfect Dark
Pac in Time
Trip World
Conker's Pocket Tales
Mega Man Xtreme
Mega Man Xtreme 2
Xtreme Sports
And just for grins, the minigame that comes as part of the Bandai Pocket Sonar

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Name Link When You're Playing A Zelda Game?

I use one of my Internet usernames, Sarna, and cut it off to “Sarn.” Then I tack on a word that vaguely fits the game’s theme. Minish Cap had Sarnce (Sarn+Lice, referencing Link’s tiny size), Skyward Sword had Sarnky (Sarn+Sky, referencing the setting), Wind Waker had Sarnster (Sarn+Lobster, referencing the lobster on Link’s pajamas), etc.

Re: Reminder: Splatoon 3's Chocolate Splatfest Is This Weekend, Which Team Will You Pick?

NerdyBoutKirby

I’m annoyed with Nintendo’s strategy of giving Frye the choice with the statistically-largest following. Like with Spicy/Sweet/Sour last month, the child player base this game targets doesn’t have the palette to appreciate dark chocolate, and white chocolate is pretty niche as far as candy goes (could only find one white chocolate item in my local grocery store today). I dunno if this is intentional on their part, but it almost feels like a ploy to make players keep choosing the worst Splatoon idol and eventually warm up to her as a result. If it is, that’s clever, but a bit underhanded.

Re: Random: People Are Sharing Their "Useless" Video Game Knowledge On Twitter - Here Are The Best Ones

Grapes were supposed to be a food item in Kirby Mass Attack. Sprites of them can be found in the files, as well as in beta background sprites for Dedede Resort. Official artwork of them exists, too, and was originally used for a KMA-themed Flash game on Nintendo’s website. I say “originally used” because it’s shown in the tutorial image, but when you start the game, it’s replaced with a second image of bananas that’s identical to the first one. This tells me that whoever made the Flash game figured out that grapes were cut from KMA, so he/she hastily removed it but forgot to change the tutorial.

Re: Talking Point: What Is The Most Frustrated You've Ever Been With A Video Game?

NerdyBoutKirby

I can say this one since P5R is on the Switch now: The end of Persona 5 on PS4 irreparably damaged my opinion of the otherwise fantastic game. The rest of this post contains SPOILERS for the endgame, so stop reading here if that bothers you.

I was ready to have the 135 hour game beaten before Christmas, and when I struck down buff Shido, I figured that would happen. Instead, the story decided to keep going, now with Shido’s nameless lackeys posing a threat. So I entered the real final dungeon, and it wasn’t so bad. Then I lost to the Holy Grail (which is scripted) and everything from that point on was downhill. The final area where you climb the skeleton into the sky is quite possibly the least fun final area in any RPG I’ve played. It’s got one save point at the very beginning, about four tough minibosses that don’t save your progress after each, enemy formations that can obliterate you in an instant (one of them would immediately kill Joker in two unblockable hits if struck first), a rather gross enemy that my entire couldn’t defeat if I ran into it, and a truly difficult final boss. Reminder: The only save point was at the very beginning of this long, arduous room, so if you beat a mini boss but you accidentally engage an enemy as you’re backtracking, it may kill you and force you to redo that beaten miniboss. It’s infuriating!

Remember, the game had lasted 135 hours up to that point, I was completely satisfied with the story concluding before this, and now this atrocious gauntlet was holding me up right before Christmas. I considered giving up, but I stuck it out. I then complained to my cousin about my listed grievances, and he said the ending was flawless and I was just bad at the game. Couldn’t even get sympathy from my best friend after enduring the most frustrating, unnecessary ending to a gargantuan journey I’ve seen. Never again.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge

NerdyBoutKirby

NA/PAL is best, but it's a weak Castlevania boxart. It looks as if Christopher just raced out of that gate, stopped himself from careening over the cliff, and then a monster dashed out from the same gate and Christopher is now doing a double-take. Like, did he not know the monster was following him? Why else was he sprinting away?
