Re: Nintendo Is Considering A Switch 2 Price Hike This Year, According To New Report

@NPC411 You clearly have not looked at the cost of SSD's recently. Between November and now an 8TB Gen 4 went from $600 to $1400. This is absolutely a supply and demand problem when it comes to components used in the Switch. Guess what, ALL of your electronics are about to become stupid expensive thanks to "AI." It's not just a Nintendo problem.

Re: Talking Point: Metroid Prime 4 And The Burden Of Being 'Good Enough'

I still think there's an aspect of Nintendo Derangement Syndrome that has persisted and intensified since the Sega Does What Nintendon't days. People have loved Nintendo games, many times it's been said they want Nintendo to go the way of Sega, they never stick the landing in the ecosystem. If it weren't for them doing weird, slightly odd things, we would have reached boring 1983 Atari-levels of saturation long before now. Though I think we're on that precipice now anyway.

Certainly Nintendo has never been allowed to be successful more than once in a row. Begrudingly the Wii worked, but the hardware was weak. Ha ha, WiiU suks! (it was actually a lot of fun.) The Switch was a brilliant idea and Nintendo was successful. Too successful. Leading up to the Switch 2 the console was supposed to be an abysmal failure that wasn't gimmicky enough, because Nintendo either sucks because of gimmicks or sucks when tjey DON'T do enough gimmicks. Also wasn't powerful enough. Steam Deck (which would not exist if the idea were not made successful by Nintendo) was better. Then the console did okay, though December was quite a sales cliff. Now every Nintendo game sucks. Mario Kart sucks, too expensive. Nintendo is raising game prices and ruining the industry! Meanwhile Sony and MS had already done that on the 360/PS3 and Nintendo did not, but that was okay then. Donkey Kong sucks! It's pretty fun, not a flagship-level game, but fun. Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction finally done right. Metroid Prime 4 is the worst thing ever!!! It's a 7, unfortunately. Uninteresting puzzles/level design and the Mines are excruciating. Stupid amount of scanning too.
It has some great technology behind it and now that Retro isn't being forced to polish another companies turd a Prime 5 could be excellent, if the younger developers can figure out proper pacing/level design. Something I feel is lacking across the board, not just at Nintendo. One thing that was lacking from Prime 4 that Drwad did right in 2D and Doom Dark Ages did in 3D was melee combat. Too many primary enemies in 4 were melee centric and the inability to strike in close is like going backwards.

To me it seems like somebody needs Nintendo to flop for some reason and any and every issue is being weirdly magnified online.

@Toastmaster
What did Halo innovate?

Halo is the result of collective wish-fullfillment. There wasn't anything fun to play on that new XBox so people convinced themselves Halo was a classic when it was mediocre at best. This happened a lot with Genesis-only kids too.

Re: Marvel Cosmic Invasion Scores December Release Date And Two New Fighters

@metaphysician Except Phyla-vell and Beta Ray Bill were not part of Annihilation. Phyla was in the sequel. The Guardians in this comic series were completely unlike the MCU versions, which were based on the re-boot series that came afterward. They killed off Starlord and Drax in this series.

Basically, nothing about this makes sense. None of it took place on Earth and most of the roster was fighting each other on Earth during Civil War.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Play NES Games These Days?

Mommar

Gonna be honest, I actually thought the NES games that were converted to 3D on the 3DS were the best ways to play them. The simple graphics allowed a great foreground/background look that really made the old games look fresh but retain the 80's charm.

@LikelySatan "The Genre?" The one I've been playing since the 80's? They keep doing the wrong thing, their combo systems are not terribly deep, and are basically the same pattern again and again. And if they're aiming to appeal to long-time fans their chosen art design goes against everything a long time SoR, TMNT or Marvel fan would want. The level designs are at their best when they go the member-berry route and mimic a 35 year old game and they don't come up with new stuff. They're okay, they animate better and control better than the older games, but none of them are genius works by any stretch of the imagination.
