@LavaTwilight Multiple-choice polls here are a little misleading, as each game someone chooses counts as 1 vote. As I'm typing this, that specific poll has 3x the votes of any of the other (single-choice) polls, which likely means the average user chose 3 games. That roughly means, with 30% of all choices being Mario Kart, around 90% of people that voted selected Mario Kart
"...still working on software for the Switch for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025" The date here is a red herring, all he's saying is that there will be at least one game for Switch released between April 2024 and March 2025, so they could drop a game that first month and software will have been released within the fiscal year
"Special Shots now pierce through tree foliage." Thank goodness, it's such a minor change but the previous behavior was probably what got me the most upset when playing
Roblox has been trying for years to get on PlayStation (starting in 2016) and Switch (2017), and it's mainly Sony and Nintendo's fault that they haven't, likely because they're worried about potential copyright infringement. That shouldn't be a problem though because Roblox has required games to remove all copyrighted material before they can be played on Xbox since 2015.
Nintendo is being especially difficult, since Roblox took down Pokemon Brick Bronze as a show of good faith and Nintendo still didn't budge.
"Nintendo has reviewed the reported material and does not believe it qualifies as a fair use of Nintendo’s copyright-protected work. Nintendo has reviewed the reported material and does not believe it qualifies as a fair use of Nintendo’s copyright-protected work."
"And we really want to stay with the format that we were thinking of, which still, unfortunately, is not a viable thing for us to do" So this format they want to do has to involve some kind of live event where people are there in person. This is probably wishful thinking, but maybe they have a really really good Sonic game and the best way to communicate how good it is is with a demo at a live event.
Putting the Ironwood Kitchenette recipe in the Wildest Dreams DIY Pack was such an annoying but clever move on Nintendo's part, it guarantees pretty much every player will get the recipe but not have access to the cutting board or the ironwood dresser to actually craft the recipe
So basically it lures people into playing the game more to get those items and uncover a lot of the other recipes
Sounds like they were going to reveal (or at least tease) the anniversary game at the SXSW panel, and the event being cancelled (plus working from home) had thrown off Sega's whole marketing timeline
Heck, this is even affecting sending mail to friends in Animal Crossing, though the Switch menu was showing that some of my friends were "online", so it's hard to say the extent of the outage
Handheld And Console
HanDHeld or High Definition Handheld
Also, fun fact, since the Switch Pro Controller uses the same battery as the original 3DS, the battery's code is CTR-003
Unfortunately, Nintendo repair is closed until further notice due to COVID-19. I bought replacement potentiometer sensors and fixed two of my Pro controllers, and they stayed fixed for a few months, but now they're back to stuttering when I hold up, and sometimes drifting slightly down at rest, which my roommates definitely notice when their Neutral B in Smash becomes a Down B. I really should just get controllers that I don't have to repair every year on my own (had to fix the DPad for Tetris 99), but the Pro controllers feel so good, and when they work, they're amazing.
Darn, when I saw the subtitle I thought it might be some software fix for (or at least mitigation of) the long-term Pro Controller joystick drift issues.
Darn, I was hoping there would be a Direct before the 17th since that's when my Best Buy GCU discount expires, and I can't pre-order games that aren't announced yet
@ShadJV I think they're trying to emphasize that there's only one island per system; having two Switches and one copy means two islands, but you can't play at the same time. Save data is tied to the console, and I don't think Nintendo can lock a cartridge to a system, even if they wanted to. I think I still want to get two copies of Animal Crossing though, so my brother and I can play at the same time
They could really use a better group of judges for the nominees, it seems like every year there are several additions and omissions that can only be chalked up to a lot of low-quality news outlets nominating the same 5 AAA games for as many categories as possible without actually thinking about what games excel in those categories.
This fits the descriptions from those that saw the trailers, with a more human Robotnik towards the beginning and the normal, video game version showing up later.
@Heavyarms55 The point of a demo is to increase sales. Nintendo must've felt that releasing a demo earlier would've had a negative effect on sales. Maybe they figured releasing a demo early might cause people that would've bought it day 1 to instead try it first and realize they didn't want to buy it after all. And since Pokemon is already so popular, a demo probably isn't going to increase the potential audience. (Maybe they're releasing DLC for Let's Go at the Direct, and want to try to increase the install base for it.) It is odd though that Let's Go has a late demo when Sun & Moon had a demo out a few weeks before launch.
Since Nintendo has been clearing out the indie game announcements and clearing up Metroid Prime 4 speculation, it makes me think that a Nintendo Direct is coming within a few weeks. It would be a good time to announce the Prime Trilogy too.
I'm not sure why Nintendo would make a "Switch Mini" and sell it for $200 when, thanks to the Switches becoming cheaper to manufacture over time, Nintendo could just sell a dockless Switch for $200 and still make money. Plus, with Nintendo's push to get multiple consoles in each home and for casuals to buy the system with Animal Crossing and Pokemon coming out this year, it's important to get a SKU out that hits that magic $200 or under price point.
@PolarExperience That's a good point. It's odd hearing the instrumentation of Crush 40 without the vocals. It would be nice for some real Crush 40 music to make it into an upcoming Sonic game, especially since I feel the music of Sonic Forces fell flat. (Though I wouldn't say no to more music like Sonic Unleashed's, dang was that soundtrack good.)
I'm just hoping we get a Sonic remix besides Brawl's Angel Island Zone. Or at least one of the 4+ official Green Hill Zone remixes Sega has already made in the past 7 years instead of having the 1991 version as default
The PC games of the first few books were pretty good, but sadly the later ones seemed to go the way of most movie-based games. If Nintendo had the rights I feel like we would've ended up with better games.
Man, to think Monolith Soft was able to make Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in 2-2.5 years while only having half their staff available for a lot of it (thanks to Breath of the Wild), and now they're hiring a bunch of people on top of the ~100 they already have. This new game is going to be gigantic.
