Sega Can't Wait To Share "Exciting News" About Sonic's 30th Anniversary

After the success of Sonic Mania, a sequel is surely on its way. However, this is modern SEGA so Sonic Boom 2 being the big surprise is also possibility.

How bout just release a Sonic 30th Anniversary Collection. I feel it's better than just making a crappy 3D Sonic game especially since Sega doesn't want to make a new Sonic Adventure 3 anyways.

I hope the rumor is true and its a Sonic Adventure remake.It was the first true Sonic 3D game (Sonic R was more of a spin-off),and it aged badly.Mainly the cutscenes,but gameplay is broken too sometimes.

I can wait. Seems about that many years since Sega bothered to release anything NOT named "Sonic" something or other.

Hopefully Sega ain’t gonna let us down but its Sega.

It’s almost as bad as labelling a CGI trailer ‘gameplay’...its hype for nothing!

Maybe for sonics 30th they'll pull the rug from under us and release new games in different franchises!

I'm sure whatever they do it can't be worse than the 15th anniversary with Sonic '06 and Sonic Genesis released on the same day.

Sonic mania 2 or GTFO! There's never been a truly great 3D game and let's not pretend there has. Adventure was a buggy poorly executed mess and if you believe otherwise i suggest you take off those rose tinted glasses. Colors is about as close as we've got to a good modern sonic and i don't see that being topped.

Sounds like they were going to reveal (or at least tease) the anniversary game at the SXSW panel, and the event being cancelled (plus working from home) had thrown off Sega's whole marketing timeline

As for what the announcement will be, I'm guessing there will be a remake of Sonic Adventure from Sonic Team and a sequel to Sonic Mania from Headcannon.

Adventure remake, along with ports of Generations and Colors with Generations 2 on the way. Please, Sega. That's all I want from sonic.

SEGA just released a new Sakura Wars game in April. They also licensed out the Streets of Rage series, which also got a new release in April.

Yakuza is getting a new game in 2020.

There's a new Hatsunke Miku game coming to Switch in May.

Vanquish and Bayonetta got a rerelease earlier in 2020.

Puyo Puyo, Valkyria Chronicles and the Shining series all got new releases in 2018.

What happened in the film? Could it be a game based on that?

I hope, they finally gonna make a good 3D Sonic game.

Sonic is probably one of those IPs by now where I'm sure I'd have fun working on something related to it, but I struggle with getting excited about the games as a player.
That said, I hope they surprise me!

@RushDawg Exactly! Everyone complains about Sega only releasing Sonic games - then ignores all the other titles they put out. How many copies did Valkyria Chronicles 4 sell? How well is Sakura Wars doing? Both have been very well reviewed.

Sonic adventure 1 and 2 are great games. But with the flaws ironed out in a reboot could be amazing. Let’s wait and see speculation usually disappoints.

Hopefully its not a remake. Talk about another way for Sonic to stay stagnant is a remake of a game thats not even good instead of figuring out how to make a Sonic game in 3D.

In my opinion, Sega's announcement should be to retire Sonic while he still has a tiny bit of dignity left. Sonic 2 is one of favourite games of all time and still holds up even now. Since then, it's been all downhill with Sonic Mania doing the unthinkable and dragging him back of his feet temporarily. Sonic 3, although good, was rushed and as a result is a very short game. However, when placed on top of the Sonic & Knuckles cart it did improve the game but then proceeded to drag the story at too much that eventual boredom steeped in. Sonic 2 was the perfect sequel with just the right game length. And then we have Sonic in the 3D realm! Let's not kid ourselves, it just does not work! Sonic is just too fast for 3D platforming. It works for Mario because you can play his 3D outings at a reasonably pedestrian pace. But Sonic in 3D is just an uncontrollable mess. Then his later 2D outings just don't have that something that makes Sonic 2 so special. So please, please Sega give Sonic the retirement he deserves.

when does Sega plan on revealing their plans for Sonic? when things are better? we have 0 idea when things will get better so might as well show off your plans during the summer months

@KingBowser86 Personally, I find Blue Sphere more trial and error. I love Sonic Mania but didn’t have the patience for Blue Sphere, ended up preferring the UFO stages (I sucked at both though!)

I’d love a Sonic Mania 2 but instead of including old Mega Drive stages, including Mania style versions of more modern stages. Stuff like Rooftop Run and Seaside Hill but as 2D pixel art. A man can dream!

Sonic Mania 2 - Sequel to Sonic Mania.
New 3d sonic game - What’s that? Sonic Lost world 2? Probably not, no.
Sonic Advance collection - Sonic Advance 1-3, Sonic Battle, and Sonic Rush/Sonic Rush Adventure.
Sonic Battle 2 for Switch

1. Sonic Mania 2
2. Sonic 3 & Knuckles on current platforms (Worked things out with Michael Jackson's estate?)
3. Sonic movie sequel announcement/teaser
4. 3D Sonic game, hopefully as great as Generations and Colors, not a budget production. (Heroes was underrated as well)
For that matter, you have to remember everyone liked the Sonic action segments in most 3D Sonic games, they just didn't care for the poor gameplay of some other characters and all the gimmicks they were shoe-horning in.
5. With the success of the movie, perhaps it's time for another serious Sonic animated series/anime?
The original series that featured the characters that went on in the comics was great and the Sonic X anime was the best of them all.
Sonic Boom was a comedy show for younger children, just like the "Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog" series that was syndicated concurrently with the original series in the 90's. (I don't remember much of the series where Sonic was in a punk band)

I would like Sonic & Knuckles 3 on modern platforms. Ports of Colours and Generations would be cool and a remake of Sonic Adventure would be great. An anniversary collection would be great too with Sonic CD included.

Most of all though I'd like Sonic Mania 2.

Whatever, SEGA, just don't rush the game's release for the anniversary, because Sonic Forces and '06 suffered for it.

Please as long as it has something to do with the adventure series. I love those games, flaws and everything

They just needed to refine it in a sequel instead of make it into 'sanic' the game.

@Glitchling78 They certainly can be made that way. The spiraling "all left turns" Blue Sphere stage from Mania (one of the later ones). But as far as the S3&K levels went, Blue Sphere was inherently fair by the nature of its mechanics. Even the final Super Emerald stage, you don't have to time a turn while walking backwards, you just bounce off of the bumper behind you. Better than trying to perceive with precision how to angle an awkward jump off of boxes in pseudo-3D.

@Randomname19 as i understand it, the cutscenes with speech were never synched to English, so when you saw characters mouths move it wasn't really matching up with the speech.

But yes agreed, the cutscenes could've been a bit better. On the bright side some of it was corny which made it kind of amusing at least.

Honestly imo Sonic is not in as bad of a position as everybody says he is. Just because Forces was mediocre doesn't mean the series should be retired or whatever. The only outright bad mainline Sonic game is Sonic 06 and that game at least had potential.

Whatever it is, I hope they have their heads on straight this time. Finally got around to playing Forces when that was on PS+ a couple months back and oof. It's like they took every existing complaint around the Sonic series and fanbase and distilled it down into a game.

It's got a bad reputation, and it certainly had some issues, but I really liked the general 3D level design of Lost World on Wii U. But like usual, they tried to throw in a bunch of completely different styles of gameplay and didn't perfect any of them. (At least this wasn't a vomit pile of every idea ever like Forces). I'd love if they just took the concept of the 3D levels of Lost World and built a whole new game around that.

Prediction's: nothing dreamcast related besides game renewal's, no dreamcast mini, and no chao garden. also possible a new sega rent service to play sega games you already possibly own on another device. kinda like an xbox game pass but a bunch of sega games instead..

I think it is time for a new Sonic Collection. Yes, I know there is that SEGA Genesis Collection that includes some Sonic games but I'm talking about a nearly full collection which should include all the main 2D Sonic games including the absent Sonic 3 & Knuckles from the Genesis Collection and Sonic CD. All the Genesis and Game Gear spin-offs should also be included. Put in a galley akin to Mega Man Legacy Collection, slap on $39.99 and there is the Sonic Mega Collection: 30th Anniversary Edition. I would buy this as opposed to another stand alone release of Sonic 1 or 2.

@Zeldafan79 actually Sonic Lost World was amazing. It's what every Sonic fan was asking for in a 3D title. I'd highly recommend it on the PC.

@bones Knowing Sega they will refuse to make a Sonic Adventure 3 and then later wonder why people didn't buy their new crappier 3D Sonic game with the same 2D/3D boost gameplay with weak gameplay physics.

I’ve thought about it and I actually don’t want remakes of the first two Sonic Adventures. I’d love ports for the Switch, but the bad graphics and audio are such memes at this point that I’d rather have them with all the warts. If they’re investing in more than straight ports, I’d rather they do Sonic Adventure 2... then port the first two to Switch anyways.

After all, at the end of the day I like like hearing “Ha, you’re not even good enough to b-“ “I’ll make you eat those words!”

yall are gonna hate me, but sonic is a garbage series that has nothing good about it. the first 4 games are really enjoyable but the rest are too finicky and try to hard to be "cool" when they end up being so cringey it isnt funny. the saving grace was the movie, which i did enjoy actually. but the pandemic hit it hard

My "I know it's gonna happen, but wouldn't it be cool" dream is Chaotix on Switch. I periodically toy with dropping a fair amount of coin to get the 32X adapter and then another sizeable chunk o' change for the cartridge, but it really shouldn't be that hard to play any Sonic game.
