Re: Video: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Team Reflects on the Impact of Pre-E3 Leaks

MetaRyan

To be fair, if you're making a Rabbids game, you kinda have to expect online negativity regardless of how good the game ends up being.
I still believe that the leaks were ultimately good for the game, as the initial reaction at E3 would've been seriously clouded by the negative reaction to a Rabbids game. The leaks turned the E3 reaction from "what? Mario + Rabbids? It kinda looks fun, but why oh why does it have to be Rabbids?" to "Oh wow! That Mario + Rabbids crossover is actually good! It's so much better than anyone could've expected!"

Re: Splatoon 2's Next Splatfest Tackles A Challenging Choice Of Condiments

Mayo is generally better than ketchup for most foods/recipes, though given how many times I've been to barbeques with hamburgers/hot dogs and no mayo, I think Ketchup is going to easily win the popularity vote. (I mean, they never forget mustard, the quintessential niche condiment, but they almost without fail forget mayonnaise. It's to the point where I bring mayo for people to use if I know we're having burgers/hot dogs.)

Re: Nintendo Reveals More Details About its Paid Online Service

MetaRyan

I hope the delay is because Nintendo's listening to fan feedback and taking the time to put out a solid online system with built-in voice chat. Also, $20 is a great price.
I don't think that the delay necessarily means the Virtual Console will be delayed too. Nintendo could give us N64/GC/Wii titles this year and early next year, and just hold onto the NES/SNES titles until the service comes out. They don't even have to wait until then, in my opinion.

Re: Random: Solving the Joy-Con D-Pad Problem With a 3D Printer, Sort Of...

MetaRyan

@thesilverbrick The Pro controller has some sort of design flaw where left and right inputs occasionally register as up (or down) inputs. Nintendo doesn't seem to acknowledge the issue, but based on the number of people complaining about it the problem is widespread.
I was actually excited for this article at first because I misread the title and thought someone had fixed the Pro Controller's D-pad issue, not the Joy-Con's.

Re: Gawk at 'Classic Sonic' Dashing Through Green Hill Zone in Sonic Forces

MetaRyan

Heh, half the comments are written by people that don't actually play Sonic games but from their 10 minutes of internet research think they've figured out why Sonic sucks or something.

Anyway, this level doesn't bode well for Sonic Forces, but it's still too early to make an accurate judgement of the game. Hopefully this level isn't representative of the rest of the Classic Sonic levels. After 4 years of dedicated development, if this game has Generations assets, then there had better be serious improvements elsewhere, such as having better levels, and more of them.

Re: Round Up: Yooka-Laylee's Scores Are In, And Critics Appear Divided

MetaRyan

Sure, maybe critics as a whole just "don't get that this is supposed to be like an N64 platformer", but my advice to you all would be to play to game before judging the reviews too much. Sure, poor performance and wonky camera controls were common in N64 platformers, but our gaming standards are higher now. It's like if Shovel Knight released without saving, or if it had occasional crashes. Those were common in 8-bit and even some 16-bit platformers, but if you released a game with those issues today, it's seen as a negative.
Personally, I wasn't going to buy this game at launch, so I can't say whether the reviews are correct since I won't be playing it for a while.

Re: First Impressions: Splatoon 2 - What We Learned About Weapons, Visuals and Controls

MetaRyan

I feel like the specials are really balanced this time around. For instance, Splashdown might seem a little useless, but it turns out you can hit Inkjet users with it if they're above you. At the same time, Inkjet users have control over their altitude, so in theory they can dodge it. Also, the best use I found for Splashdown is to roll some of your home turf to charge it up, then Super Jump into a dangerous place and use it.

Re: Feature: Ten Useful and Fun Little Details to Know About Nintendo Switch

MetaRyan

"In an interesting little nod that shows Nintendo's advertising team wasn't fully sure of the features when making the original 'preview trailer', the actor is shown playing Skyrim on a plane with the Joy-Con detached. Actually, the use of wireless controllers is out when Flight Mode is enabled (because of the Bluetooth, probably), so unless you want frustrated aircrew telling you off keep those Joy-Con clipped in."

Well, actually, Bluetooth is allowed to be used during flights except during takeoff and landing. "Flight Mode" is only for takeoff and landing, unless you live in a country or are flying on an airline with unusually strict flight laws.
