A free demo for the recent Switch release Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! is now available to download from the eShop. If you haven't had the chance to experience these new entries yet, now is the chance to see what they're all about.
The demo itself will introduce you to the game's unique gyro mechanics and takes place in Viridian Forest. Here you'll meet with Professor Oak who wants yourself and your partner Pokémon (which is randomly selected) to conduct a bit of research on his behalf. The game will then teach you the basics while you catch Pokémon and battle trainers. Interestingly, your party is loaded with Eevee, Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Meowth.
According to Serbii.net, this demo matches the one that was available at tours late last year and requires 2.2GB of space to download. There's also no play limit. Unfortunately, though, none of the game data transfers over to the final version, as it has in previous Pokémon demos.
Will you be downloading this demo? Do you already own the Let's Go games? Tell us in the comments.

NOW? Why not have a demo when the game releases? Or better yet, BEFORE it releases!
Isn't that the point of a demo?
Wonder if it has limited plays...
@VR32X There's no play limit. I've updated the post to reflect this.
@VR32X I’m almost certain Switch games do not have a set amount of times you can play the demo.
If I download this, can I unlock the Partner Pikachu spirit in Smash Ultimate?
@GyroZeppeli Pokkén on Switch does. I don't know about any others.
@KingBowser86 Forgot about that one, but at least it’s not forced this time. I have several demos on 3DS with only about 5 plays left.
@GyroZeppeli Some games like Pokken do... they just aren’t obvious like on 3DS.
@Liam_Doolan Thanks!
@VR32X Yes, but I was referring to how all of the demos on 3DS have play limits. This is not necessary for every Switch demo.
Huh, sounds like they just published the E3 demo.
@Heavyarms55 The point of a demo is to increase sales. Nintendo must've felt that releasing a demo earlier would've had a negative effect on sales. Maybe they figured releasing a demo early might cause people that would've bought it day 1 to instead try it first and realize they didn't want to buy it after all. And since Pokemon is already so popular, a demo probably isn't going to increase the potential audience. (Maybe they're releasing DLC for Let's Go at the Direct, and want to try to increase the install base for it.)
It is odd though that Let's Go has a late demo when Sun & Moon had a demo out a few weeks before launch.
Meh, from my perspective the game just has too many things going against it thanks to the large focus on casual players. Lack of compability with the pro controller is also a massive turn off.
Sounds just like the demo I played at PAX
Which is funny, because I wasn't impressed with it. Yet I enjoyed the retail game.
Its actually been a cheap game in the uk, ranging from 25 to 35 pound for a while now!!!
Wow thanks!, This is great!
@Heavyarms55 Maybe they've gotten smarter about not releasing demos before the game due to that they know it will datamined and spoilered all over the Internet. (though I would think blanking out non-demo Pokemon or whatever else, or replacing them with dupes of old content, could work. But that's probably more work. )
But three months after release is a little excessive.
Wow that is one late demo. That aside, I gave it a go and to be honest it wasn't as bad as I had originally thought. in fact I actually enjoyed the game. The demo still hasn't convinced me to buy it, but if it ever goes on sale I'll definitely give it a consideration.
I was happy with all the catering the game does to old-school fans (hearing their old, classic cries was great) and it looks like the battle animations may have improved since early impressions, but without being able to battle wild pokemon and the lack of trainers in the forest (there were only 3 I think), Viridian Forest was an even shorter romp than it was in the original game. This leads me to believe that the game probably moves at a very fast pace.
Still, it has lots of neat improvements that made me at least consider getting the game, whereas before I tried the demo I would not even consider it.
Oh, this is nice!
Will give this a shot for sure.
Been in doubt to buy this game for, like, ever since I got a Switch. (So basically, 3 months now)
Will start the download this afternoon when I get home from work
I couldn’t afford to get the game and now with Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Gen 8 etc all coming, it’s just not gonna happen.
Happy to get a shot of the demo however.
Easily the most stupidly timed demo release I've seen in a long time.
That's a bit late, mate.
I'm 100% sure that the only reason this demo is being released now is to try and get as many people into Pokemon Lets Go before the new game is revealed. As once Gen 8's coming no one will be interested in Lets Go.
@Lando_ @AlexSora89 @Heavyarms55 : Pokémon sells itself. I think this demo exists in order to convince fence-sitters and naysayers to consider making a purchase (especially because a lot of longtime fans have decided to pass on this release). I think this is a smarter business decision overall as it can pique interest now that the initial momentum has worn off and sales have slowed down.
@Heavyarms55
A: it simply wasn't ready at the time for them to release it.
B: "we've got to have... money."
But, Joking Aside. i've been waiting for a demo to try out this game. I wasn't sure if this would catch my interested like the other pokemon games did. so, i'm glad Nintendo release this.
I might actually end up buying this now, been thinking for a while that it would be a good one to play while my 2 year old watches, but I was put off by the mandatory motion controls as I play in bed a lot as well. I can see if it's a deal breaker now.
@Silly_G
I'll have to admit, I did receive the game as a Christmas gift though. It's a decent game, but probably I wouldn't have given that much money on the fly without a demo first.
@Trellgoth You can download the demo to your Switch by going to the official Nintendo website and signing in with your Nintendo Account.
That way the 2.2gb demo will be downloaded and ready to play by the time you get home, provided your Switch is docked in sleep mode and in range of WIFI.
@RupeeClock You, are a hero!
Did not know this was an option. I do know PS4 has the option, but had no clue about Switch having it, too.
I just added the download so it'll be ready to play when I get home.
Thank you <3
Downloading this as soon as I get home from work,I can pick up a retail copy for a better deal than at launch.
Cool of Nintendo to do this. This is meant for all don't want to risk 50€ to try and see if they like Pokemons game. They have nothing to loose and I'm sure it will add more to the sale numbers. It's a shame that the save data won't be transferring to the final game.
Due to the odd timing, it might be somehow related to today's Direct.
Maybe Gen 8 was scrapped in favour of Let's Go: Snubbull & Togepi.
They should do this with smash!
@GyroZeppeli Actually, not all 3DS demos have/had play limits, notably the Pokémon demos. When the 3DS launched nearly none of the demos were limited.
@Heavyarms55 As others have said, this demo is for people that have been holding back.. not the people that were going to buy it at launch anyway. Personally if there had been a demo out before I picked up the game I'd have waited, the throw mechanics really do kill the fun for me.
A little note, if anyone is interested: you can choose the partner Pokemon used in the demo by holding the stick up during the Game Freak logo screen to get Pikachu, or down to get Eevee, according to the Japanese announcement of the demo.
@DanteSolablood I just don't think that that is the right way to handle demos. If a developer is worried that a demo might turn people off from buying their game, then they need to think hard about the game they are releasing. It's low hitting tactics like this that remind me that Nintendo and Game Freak, are, in the end, little to no different than any other corporation.
I'm definitely interested in trying the demo.
Why is the framerate so bad? Is the main game like this?
I was on the fence about the Let's Go titles. This will help me decide but the throw mechanics do put me off a little and I still haven't got any further on Pokemon Moon yet.
I tried the demo. It's just plain boring.
