No, it’s not some horrible nightmare, Nintendo has in fact announced the development of Metroid Prime 4 will be restarted, with the original developer Retro Studios now collaborating with producer Kensuke Tanabe.
Prior to this shock announcement from Nintendo, there were rumours circulating late last year about the re-release of the Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Nintendo Switch as an appetiser. So, what’s the current status of this rumoured project? According to a series of tweets by Game Informer’s Senior Editor Imran Khan, “it's been long done” and the initial announcement for the trilogy collection on Switch was supposed to happen last month, but not necessarily at The Game Awards. Why exactly this game wasn’t revealed by Nintendo around this time is unknown.
Over on ResetEra, Khan said Metroid Prime 4’s development reset is likely to alter Nintendo’s schedule and mentioned how there was more “Metroid stuff” in the pipeline to anticipate.
Now that Nintendo has revealed the news about Metroid Prime 4, do you think it should focus on releasing the Metroid Prime Trilogy as soon as possible, assuming it is more than a rumour? Tell us below.

It'd be fun to play.
okay, so release it.
why would anyone get excited over a rumoured project?
show your product if you got something to show.
All 3 games better be on the cartridge if true. There's no reason they couldn't fit 10gb on a Switch game card.
I’ll believe it when I see it; definitely possible. Maybe in the next Direct
I definitely hope it's true that the trilogy is coming. However, seeing how Prime 4's release is very far out, maybe they'll wait a bit to release the trilogy. If it's true, fingers crossed it will release later year!
I think all the “rumors” for Metroid Prime Trilogy are made up by people with no inside info, but pass off their predictions as inside info.
@retro_player_22 Wasn't it a single DVD (technically Nintendo DVD-like proprietary disc) on the Wii?
They were probably going to announce it with a preview of MP4 but decided not to when they realized the work done on MP4 was rubbish.
I wouldn't be surprised if we're looking at 3-4 years until Metroid Prime 4 is out but I really hope we see the Trilogy this year. To hear that Nintendo have "more Metroid stuff" in the works is great. They could remake an older 2D one in the meantime or even make a new one. Until 4 releases, I hope they'll push the brand as much as possible. They'll need to make back their losses for the past couple of years. I'd love to see Metroid become a huge brand and considering 4's delay, they've got plenty of time to make it happen.
Well, if Metroid Prime Trilogy for Switch is already done then I think Nintendo should announce and release it asap. I think that would at least do a bit of damage control and satiate fans for now.
And releasing that official English translation of Mother 3 could really help soothe the wounds too.
If it is ready to be released, then that should confirm its a simple port of the Wii version, rather than HD remaster. Unless this is one of the best kept secrets of the universe, of all time.
@KingMike Yeah but if Nintendo is planning to HD remastered all of them then the file size would be much larger this time probably close to 10gb. The recent Wii U released on the Virtual Console was only 7.8gb but that version was just the Wii version upscale to HD.
@retro_player_22 : The Wii version of the trilogy was under 8GB, and it wasn't a HD upscale. It was just the Wii ISO being loaded via the Wii U's in-built Wii BIOS.
To put things into further perspective, the standalone games (on GameCube and Wii) were around 6GB collectively, so, Nintendo could very well port the trilogy over to Switch without requiring a cartridge with a capacity greater than 8GB.
I doubt that Nintendo will enhance the trilogy in any meaningful way other than having it render at a native 1080p, even if the assets are identical to the GameCube and/or Wii releases.
@KingMike The games are not HD so they did come in just one disc.
@KingMike : The trilogy on Wii shipped on a dual-layer disc (8.5GB capacity) as opposed to a single-layer disc (4.7GB).
@impurekind Agreed. It'd be the perfect time for an announcement. They can't possibly wait until the year Metroid Prime 4 is released. There have been rumours for a while that footage of the game was supposed to have been shown in the January direct. I wonder if today's news has anything to do with the direct's continued absence?
Good lord, release it tomorrow. I would drop RE2 right now to play those.
Will believe it when it's officially announced. Hope it's true, of course.
The more games from previous consoles on the Switch the better, I say. Metroid Prime Trilogy would be a great addition to the system's library.
If it really is a thing, we'll likely see it in the next Direct. Maybe as late as E3.
Makes sense. Since 4 will be a loooooooong way away, they need to fill the Metroid void till then. Plenty of time for gamers to beat and even complete all 3 games in the run up to 4, whether it be for the first time or revisiting the games again in HD. And if you add online to 2's multiplayer, even more to play with.
Of course, a Samus Returns HD Port would be nice as well.
At least we were spared the disappointment of no Metroid 4 reveal at E3. Maybe they should hold back the Prime Trilogy release and redo it to be more like a major upgrade and release it next fall.
Metroid will end up being a VR game.
My heart skipped a beat until I saw the word rumor.
Take this with a farm animal block of salt.
This same guy also said “I don’t know what happened, Reggie said in December that Prime was doing fine”.
I'll believe it when I see it. Funny that this rumor came out again "just" when the delay of Prime 4 was announced...
I’m glad I read this.
I was going to start playing prime trilogy on my Wii U with the horrid Wiimote. I couldn’t get the sensor bar far enough to let me play easily. Put it on Switch and I will buy it day one. I’ve put off those games for way too long.
It's the internet so I like to speculate when I can haha
Around October/November Nintendo finished the Trilogy and had it ready to go. However, there was mounting concern over MP4 and so Nintendo had to deal with that first. Once they decided to start over with Retro, they decided to shelve the Trilogy for a little bit. Releasing bad news during the holiday window would have been dumb. Get New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe out, get some positive sales then drop the bad news in a slow news window. February rolls around and they can bring back good will by releasing the Trilogy. I bet all of this has been in the works for months now.
a good holdover until 4!
Here we go again. Still a lot of talk. I’m not sure how anyone can believe rumors about Metroid given how much we’ve been misled already. I’ll wait for Nintendo, thank you!
Day one purchase, assuming the rumor is true.
Would be a nice package to have the trilogy in an enhanced HD format on the Nintendo Switch . Another completely awesome thing to do would be release Super Metroid in HD on Switch. Though I am still really bummed out over today's announcement like countless others I am happy Metroid went back to Retro it just seems right .
I think it would be smart to release closer to 4, but not too close that one doesn’t have time to play them, maybe 6 months prior. Very excited for all this.
Sorry, I’m not buying the rumor. If it were true, I’m sure they would have used it as a softening of the blow with the Prime 4 announcement. They wouldn’t have had a reason not to.
It will be shadowdropped at the next Nintendo Direct.
@Sephiroth_FF Yeah. They could potentially remake Hunters or do an HD version of Other M. I’d like to see a new 2d entry, though
Hopefully they give us Prime Trilogy HD in an E3 announcement so that it we get a taste of how Prime 4 would be. I hope that after one clears all prime games of the Prime Trilogy HD, they give us a secret mini trailer for Prime 4 even if it's just a beta of the game.
If true, announcing this in the developer update would've been an example of good PR.
I’m curious about the control scheme.
This would whet the whistle until MP4.
I'm.. starting to think a Direct is around the corner, with all these rumours flying around. It'd make sense.
The Wii version will still be better, since motion-controlled shooters work better with a sensor bar (and of course motion-controlled shooters are far superior to dual analog and whatever scheme the first two games originally used on the GameCube). Plus, it came in that incredible metal case. I'm glad I grabbed it on the Wii when I had the chance.
They announced Wind Waker HD shortly after the Breath of the Wild delay was announced because they wanted something to tide over the fans. I would appreciate an announcement sooner then later.
Man, we need a new Direct really bad. All these rumors over the last several weeks have just gotten crazy out of hand haha.
Perhaps it's timing
It's Q1, Nintendo is still riding the smash Bros wave, so releasing MP trilogy too soon could be saturating their own market.
@impurekind What official translation of "Mother 3"? I hate to break it to you, but due to a certain village of transvestites, the game is never getting a Western release. They would either have to censor the village thereby butchering the story, or they'd have to try to sell an M-rated Earthbound game to what is already a niche audience. (Due to differing social norms, it got away with a lower rating in Japan, but that kind of stuff doesn't fly with the ESRB or PEGI.)
Switch was my return to Nintendo after a long absence. ...Getting a chance to play the Metroid Prime trilogy sounds so flipping cool. I hope this is true.
@Kwehst You do know the sensor bar settings let you adjust the effective distance, don't you?
Dealing with the sensor bar is still a lot better than trying to play a motion controlled shooter with no IR functionality. You'd either need to realign the Joycons quite often, or you'd have to use the lousy Splatoon-style hybrid scheme which still requires stupid dual analog controls and thereby mostly negates the benefits of motion controls in the first place.
So we loose one big new game, and get 3 more old rehash. Welcome to Year 3 🙄
Metroid Prime Trilogy HD is the biggest open secret currently circulating in the industry.
@Agramonte
Metroid Prime 4 was never going to be a "Year 3" game. That's Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion, Fire Emblem,...
Since Nintendo has been clearing out the indie game announcements and clearing up Metroid Prime 4 speculation, it makes me think that a Nintendo Direct is coming within a few weeks. It would be a good time to announce the Prime Trilogy too.
@BulbasaurusRex Really? That would get an M rating? "Transvestite" feels like a T level thing to me ("suggestive content" feels like how one would put it). But if Nintendo cared enough to release the game, they probably would censor it.
Whenever I see a rumour article/thread:

Yes please! I've never played those 3 games and I'd like to!
I imagine it's likely that it's going to happen. If it is ready to go, and they still haven't done it, they probably didn't want the announcement of Metroid Prime 4 hurting the sales or impact of this news' arrival. I imagine we'll see an official announcement next month with a release in either April or May, if these rumors are true.
@KingMike The most likely reason why Mother 3 was never localized was how late it was released in the GBA’s lifespan and it came out the same year as the DS Lite which removed the GBA slot. Why they didn’t localize it and release it on Wii U VC? It would require a heavy amount of localization for a game that would only cost $10 and probably was considered too much of a risk.
Never try these games before, hopefully it's fun shooter games when they releases them!
@BulbasaurusRex I really hope Nintendo can see past that kind of thing in 2019. The Magypsies are actually pretty brilliant characters at the end of the day, who aren't technically transvestites but more an alien race that is basically non-gender.
"They're neither human nor beast, neither man nor woman." — https://earthbound.fandom.com/wiki/Magypsy
And, in this time of so much OTT PC stuff, you'd think it would be even more acceptable to have a bit of diversity and all.
@kepsux obvious comment of the year award goes to....
Here's a secret nobody knows about: it's already out... on Wii U. For like... several years.
@Yosher makes sense to put out some bad news and let it settle before hitting with a Direct so fingers crossed next week we have something to cheer about.
Whenever they will release it I'll be triple dipping for sure.
This makes total sense. As much as the drones on sites like this will moan about old games it’s been 10 years since the Wii U release and 17 since the original. There will be plenty of people who haven’t played them before and plenty who will revisit them given how much time has elapsed. They will also look great in HD.
https://youtu.be/T6jCK8NX3AY
The sequence seems clear.
1. Get the bad news out before the earnings release next week to clear the decks
2. Positive earnings release
3. Direct soon after to announce Trilogy and hopefully whatever Retro just finished with. Given the other big hitters coming out 2019 would look superb.
@impurekind
Yeah I can’t see much controversial there. Maybe a name change but that’s it.
I can't help but think that they would want to release the trilogy closer to the date of 4, to build hype amongst those new to the series, and to respark the passion of those who played it years ago at the same time. In a way, the trilogy could serve as a sales pitch for 4. I doubt if they would release it now and view it as being separate from the release of 4. I would love to be wrong, though!
I have 1 and 3. Almost unplayed. In this case I wouldn't mind to have all three on Switch if the price was right and, of course, a physical version came.
This rumour is likely true, as we got Twilight Princess as a result of BOTW delay (or was it Windwaker?)
As long as they keep motion controls as an option (or at least Giro Aiming), I am happy.
This move will ease on the bad news, and will actually create a weird scenario as the sales of the trilogy will start high and become lower with time (like every game that isn’t GTA5 that started high and remains this way for good lol) and than, in few years, when the they will start to hype this game near it’s release date, this trilogy will start selling strong again
@BulbasaurusRex if they got away with Birdo.... they can get away with a small changes in the translation to make it a bit subtle
@Mrtoad the fan translators have said they would gladly let them use their translation for free if Nintendo wanted to.
GIVE IT TO ME NOW
“Over on ResetEra...”
Lol.
Given the state of Metroid Prime 4 I can see why they waited if it is ready to release. Now that they have announced the reboot of 4 it would be a very good time to release the Trilogy to keep existing fans interested and happy after the disappointment but also create new fans
I’ve given up looking forward to this. Anyway, what’s the bet it’s only Metroid Prime on the cart and download codes for 2 and 3? Ugh.
Release it NOW, please, pretty pretty please.
That explains the dry February month on Nintendos calendar.
@retro_player_22 I agree if it’s 10gb they should - but we have no idea how big it will be if they remaster it (ie it’s obviously not going to run at the original resolution so would most likely have higher resolution assets - not to mention other aspects).
But given it’s a Nintendo property, they will most likely be on one cart. Because Nintendo obvioulsy aren’t paying a premium for the larger cartridges, as a third party publisher would.
The new president is not starting out on the right foot with me. It's not because he has decided to restart MP4. It's not because of his comments about more mobile gaming. I think it is his go to market strategy on getting the news out there.
We haven't had a direct this year. They tossed us a bone with the Indie Highlight, but that didn't amount to much for me. He could have put together a rather substantial Direct. In it, he could have announced the MP4 restart and smoothed it over with, but here is Trilogy for you to enjoy in the meantime.
We are heading into the last week of January, and we have gotten dates here and there, but we have seen very little game play video on what to expect between now and E3.
Yes the Trilogy should be released soon as possible now. Disappointed by the news it’s seems to me it should of stayed with Retro studios in the first place. But what has me thinking have Retro been working on the Trilogy update? Nintendo are so impressed that they’ve had second thoughts and pulled the plug on Metroid 4 and realised Retro studios are the team for the job.
@MH4 it’d be hidef assets for the Switch. So much bigger.
The main problem with enhancing the games in any other way than HD is that it isn't possible. Simply because those games are perfect those.
Only if they remaster it in proper 1080p, and give us a modern control scheme. I am so freaking disappointed 😥
I’m wondering how it will control. Wii was pretty perfect in my opinion. Is that level of control possible on switch?
Maybe the promblem of quality and direction was noticed when they sat down to prep the game awards reveal. So they choose to not air it and in the following 2 months tried to save it or decide upon scrapping it. So why show a prime hd then say we are scrapping it, it makes sence to wait until January announce they are scrapping it, but later reveal the HD remaster as a stop gap.
Metroid MP4 was always on the cards to be pushed back tho date never revealed. As from nintendos point of view 2019 is quite full and they would need big hitting titles for 2020.
A remaster needs to be overhauled from a control point of view.
Pro controller support 100%!
NO Wii mote style wiggle and wave.!
Maybe wake up online hunts or deathmatch!
Voice chat!
Seeing as MP4 is now virtually assured to at best come out at the very end of the Switch's lifecycle, I think plenty of fans might appreciate getting at last the trilogy. Not sure I'm all that excited for it myself, since I don't really have any plans to replay it anytime soon, and a lot would depend of the quality/upgrades of this port as well as the available control schemes.
Not having pointer controls for instance, would feel like a significant downgrade to me, that could not be remedied by any visual upgrades or the likes.
Just want them retextured and full hd with high frame rate and I'm happy, Prime Trilogy are amazing games
Whatever their plans prior to the Prime 4 reboot, I feel like they should release the Trilogy now. Like, soon. As a consolation for fans.
It’s going to be a long wait. That wait would be exponentially easier if I could at least play the Trilogy.
I really hope this is true. I've never played the original but it looks great and would run well in handheld mode.
I definitely would buy this.
@invictus4000 You do realize the Switch has long outsold the Wii U, right? That means there are people who own a Switch that didn't buy a Wii U, and probably don't have a strong reason to buy one now.
I'm happy with my Wii version, but Prime on the go is very tempting...
Trilogy on current Switch, 4 on the next maybe 1 or 2 years later
@maruse Imagine this is a prank by Nintendo to put our hopes down, then come E3 booom Metroid Prime 4 in all its glory 😂 ...yes I'm dreaming 🙄
Conspiracy theory. Metro is being remade, but this happened sometime ago and the game could be ready for release, say late this year. But with Trilogy ready to hit the market the new Metro is being kept under raps for another year or so.
Nintendo has done this with games in the past, like Zelda, hang back on the new stuff and as a sweetener release the old stuff.
Maybe it's not a conspiracy theory, just marketing.
Seems very likely to me that an announcement of a Metroid Trilogy and the next direct would be disrupted by what must have been a fairly major discussion about the future of Metroid 4 that would have been going on for a while.
Much better to keep power dry, deliver the bad (but also maybe good) news about Metroid 4 and then leave on a positive note with a direct - and maybe Metroid Trilogy announcement a week or two later.
The recent Indie direct could have been put together as a little sweeter to fill the gap as people waited for news.
Kind of called it.
And so did our fluffy blue boy Arlo.
Regarding recent point made by N President about the importance of mobile gaming; Maybe we have Nintendo's mobile riches to thank for them being able to scrap a less than satisfactory 'hardcore' project and start all over?
Do I want the MP Trilogy on Switch? Of course! But wake me up when it's actually a thing.
I would bet this is 100% true, and that Nintendo were waiting to release it closer to MP4's orginal release window.
I would also bet, for all those complaining, that the game would have both dual stick and motion control support, seeing as Nintendo has successfully implemented both in other titles on the Switch.
It could be that the title will be announced soon, and launched sooner than planned also, but seeing as they've just launched another deluxe port, I'm guessing they want to wait for that to die down first.
Given how quickly Nintendo and other devs have ported titles to the Switch, and how often Nintendo has done it so far, I would be surprised if they had several titles finished and ready for release. Hell, even MP Trilogy HD wasn't a thing before, they could start it now and it could still be out before the end of the year.
Only if it’s a complete Prime sequence, including Hunters, Pinball and Federation Force, online multiplayer for 2 & Hunters, online leaderboards for Pinball and Prime 4.
The problem with Khan tweeting everything He's said so far about Metroid, is the fact he is with Game Informer. He won't wrote an article about it himself, which everyone can then source, but he'll happily tweet it and have it on forums.
It is time that the Metroid trilogy released in HD, they are losing precious time, because for shield in china are going out various wii porting in HD, I hope they give a move and let them out here too ... for the rest live Nintendo...
Nintendo either likes to announce projects prior to their release, or allow rumors to build up to a fever pitch only to then drop the game the same day as it's announcement
I empathise with Nintendo here, if their plan was to release 4 this holiday season and surprise us with Trilogy this spring our summer in the same announcement that they drop 4's holiday release date. Fans would have gone nuts in excitement. Now 4 got severely delayed and Trilogy got leaked. What a cluster for them.
@sandman89 the original 2 were in GameCube with a single joystick for control, just add dual stick movement / camera and there should be no problem. Anything else can be remedied with a bit of motion controls I’d assume.
Sounds to me like this is something that Nintendo will hold on to until a Nintendo Direct when they can proudly announce it and then say "available on eshop today".
I'm taking this with a huge truckload of salt. I'm starting to wonder if a Direct isn't around the corner with how busy the rumor mill has been. XD
That said, Metroid Prime Trilogy is amazing. I don't double dip often, but I would for this rumored collection (for the right price).
It's not a nightmare that Metroid Prime 4 has been restarted and given to Retro Studios at all. It's a great thing, because it will ultimately be a better game. Retro should've been on board from the very start.
Given the development schedule, I'll wager MP4 is the bait game for whatever the next console is (and when). Think Metroid gear, controller, console skins, etc..
Make it an HD remake with the option for both traditional controls and motion controls, plus online gameplay for Metroid Prime 2's multiplayer mode, and you have a deal.
I hope this is true. I would love to play MP 1 on the go : )
I bet we were suppose to get a Direct this month, and they were going to show part of Metroid Prime 4 off in some way, but Nintendo held off and decided not to because they were unhappy of how it looked. So I think we'll get a Direct early next month and Metroid Prime Trilogy will be in there and it'll come out just a few weeks from then because Nintendo doesn't have a big February title.
As soon as the news drops, so does my money on the table. It’ll be $60 won’t it.... :/
I bought the trilogy 4 times, one of those was digitally.
Oh well... the games are so worth it. You know it’s gonna be good when the main menu music is good glooking at you Metroid Prime 1)
Wonder if they upped the visuals at all or did some tweaking to make them “HD”....🤔
Nintendo just released the gosh darned game already. Just b/c things didn't go according to plan means you have to hold it hostage
With Yoshi being released soon, I get the feeling we'll see a Direct that'll go over the game, as well as any other highlights for the Spring/early Summer, Fire Emblem included. If there's going to be any news soon, that'll be where it comes in.
As for feasibility, porting the games over shouldn't be a massive headache, and it sounds like something that would have been planned even if MP4 wasn't restarted. I'm also hoping for a 2D Metroid on the Switch-it would be simpler to make while giving the fans something to help tide over the wait.
@Level_Up I suppose. I just loved the wii controls rather than the GameCube controls
People shouldn't accept! If Nintendo wasn't a bunch of a..holes they would have gone to Retro straight away for Prime 4. And we would almost have another great Prime (possibly) in our Switch, now we have to wait another 3, 4, 5 years!!
@Mrtoad The DS Lite didn't remove the GBA slot, the DSi (released in 2008/2009) did.
Also, the fan translation was willing to give formally (sign legal documents) give Nintendo consent to use their ROM translation tools to make their own. But surely Nintendo doesn't want to be seen taking fan help for their work.
the real question is, did they make it easy as Other M, keep the difficulty the same or amp up the difficulty 10-fold?
Day One for me, if it ever comes out. Would like to see it sooner rather than later, because other than Yoshi, and Luigi's Mansion 3, I don't think there's anything else official in the pipeline I'm excited for.
@KingMike Thanks for pointing out my mistake. But, Nintendo does already have GBA ROM translation tools, if I remember correctly Nintendo translated G&W Gallery 4 into Japanese just for the VC release.
Some hd remastering and gyro aim would be welcome before a purchase though.
@Meehanuk I really suggest starting with Zero Mission (Gameboy Advance, and remake of Metroid 1), or Super Metroid (Super Nintendo). They’re the most accessible and tightly designed (not too big) entries in the series. You will enjoy Prime all the more if you play those first. Samus Returns on 3DS (remake of Metroid 2) is also excellent, but there’s steep difficulty spikes at the end.
I'm ready to believe it.
We have no clue about what Rare's been doing these past few years, and apparently they are being brought in now for Prime 4.
And you gotta admit, Prime Trilogy on Switch seems like an obvious win.
@fortius54 ‘last [week] of January’
@sandman89 The motion control worked so well in MP Trilogy. It made the games feel reborn
@wiggleronacid I've only played Metroid Prime 3. So it'd be nice to be able to play the others.
I still don't understand why they wait so much each new year to speak about the upcoming games
Like, you have Prime Trilogy coming soon ? Tell us about it godamn
Tell us about 2019, it's been months since we were told that we will get some stuff, now we need more details, we always have to wait until february, that's really long
@gaga64 Hunters deserves to be on a system with much better control; I approve
@Antraxx777 I don't know about that... I've always wanted to know more about Samus ever since I saw her in Smash Bros. Brawl. So for my first game I just dived into Prime 3 (Since I was born in 2003). I instantly fell in love with it because it just looked so interactive! (In comparison with the older games always being 2D.
@Antraxx777 Defintely right about Hunters!!! I was just about to go buy it the other day!
@Onion Especially with Echoes, I think on the go bite-size sessions would benefit the back and forth between the two realms, which honestly can otherwise get annoying to backtrack through
Yes just release it. As an apology for the massive delay set for 4, but also to give people time to complete all 3 before 4. Most people won't want to do them all back to back, so it'd be nice to catch up at leisure (especially since Prime 1 is the best and goes slightly downhill from there).
@shaneoh
To quote good ol' White Collar Blues: ninety minutes' worth of nonstop applause!
If they have it they certainly should. It would be a nice salve to distract from the fact their first crack at MP4 is officially going down in flames before it took off.
Already happy with it on Wii so I'm really not bothered.
The main question for me is not if it will be on a single cartridge but will it be a true HD remaster or will be just the compilation that was released in Wii U store with no enchantments
I've never played the Trilogy so it would be a must buy for me.
@Henmii
Or Retro couldn’t do it because they were doing something else. Otherwise what have they been doing for years? That makes more sense than Nintendo randomly choosing a different developer out of spite.
This rumor developed, because between Wii U's launch and Breath of the Wild both Twilight Princess and Windwaker were ported. This is giving fans hope that the same thing is happening with Metroid Prime, but it's hard to say, the Wii wasn't as much a commercial failure as GameCube and Wii U were, so it's less likely to see its games ported.
Just release Prime 1 and 2, hated the trilogy on Wii but loved the first two on GC. I like to play games with the original control scheme not tacked on motion control thanks. If you have to play MP3 on Switch with motion controls then you won't be able to play one third of the collection in handheld mode. If they just released all three with motion control again I wouldn't bother picking it up.
I think its not an issue of if for Metroid Prime trilogy coming to Switch, its more of a question of when, there are a lot of people who have never played a Metroid Prime game so if Nintendo expects them to buy 4 they need to release the trilogy.
Hard to think when it would come out though, sometime in Autumn will be Animal Crossing, November will be Pokemon, I don't think they will release it in December as it isnt going to be a huge system seller so maybe Pokemon will come out in December instead of November so maybe the Trilogy will come out a few months after Yoshi.
If true I hope it's more than just a simple up res.
Still have my limited edition MP Trilogy in the metal case....would buy a switch remaster version in cartridge format(AWESOME) in a heartbeat. Release it nintendo, this is a good way to help smooth the waters after the announcement of the MP4 delay.
@Henmii They did go to Retro, Retro wasn't able to do it. They asked another development team but it didn't work out like Nintendo had planned. Retro at the helm means only good things. Better to wait and get a awesome experience than rush out a product and it isn't what it could have been.
@electrolite77 Exactly.
@Reigestugatensho Same here. Well, sort of. I only played the first game and never beat it. Would be nice to properly beat the first one in HD and finally play the next two entries. Hopefully we both get a chance to play the collection sometime!
@andyg1412 Cool opinion. I'm not a big fan of Corruption's gimmicky dial-twisting, button-pushing, and panel yanking either, but Prime and Echoes felt great to play with its aiming controls. I hope it'll give players an option to use either control scheme for the first two games. Corruption is probably better off keeping its weird motion controls, because I can't imagine the game working any better without them.
I'm sure it'll be announced eventually, but probably a year ahead of the latest sequel, like Sega did with shenmue 1&2 hd collection.
@andyg1412
Or they could release all 3 with different control options. That would make the most sense.
More re-releases. This is getting pretty dull. Original content please Nintendo, new things.
@Superzone13 the lack of anouncments is hurting Nintendo ! This month RE2 dropped and KH3 will drop , nintendo as yet to anuncie anything that can slightly match any of these
Oh yes, please! An HD Collection would be wonderful. And a bonus Multiplayer!
They should launch it as soon as possible, and then they can cut the price prior MP4.
Summer release, tide people through the Fall, get an update on 4 during next Holiday - there ya go.
Hoping it’s a remaster not a rerelease
Metroid Prime 4 will be the next Zelda, they announce it for system A bit end up releasing as a launch title for the next system.
We want more! We've been waiting such a long time...
We can only hope we receive an HD trilogy on the Switch. I adore this series and to have them on the go would be a treat indeed. I’m shivering with excitement just thinking about it.
Already bought this 3 times, will do it again. If they can make it HD, Or better yet upgrade the graphics
I'm sure this'll be fun for Metroid fans
If true, They should’ve announced this in the same announcement that MP4 was being restarted. “We’re sorry that we are restarting development of MP4, however, we are excited to present the Metroid Prime trilogy for Switch coming out _____”
I’ll fire it up on Wii U until its actually announced. Though I bought the game digitally, I held on to my steelbook collector’s edition and I just keep my disc mint. I’m sure when they do, there will be an all-new collector’s edition, new amiibo features, a $60 price tag, and hopefully a few other surprises. I’m sure theres a lot around the corner and they’re just waiting to boom us on or around e3.
Joycons don't have forward facing IR emitters. How can Joycons then be used to play games like MP Trilogy (with MP 1 & 2 having been adapted to use the Wiimote) and games like Zelda: SS and Mario Galaxy? I understand that people want these games on the Switch. I do too! But I don't understand how it's technically possible. Can someone explain how Nintendo could find a workaround for this? Other than making the games completely playable with a standard controller? MP 3 included?
Great would love to play them in handheld with the classic gc controls. If they can add motion as an option with the switches better controllers it could be fun.
@Vriess
"Other than making the games completely playable with a standard controller"
You answered your own question.
@westman98
Well, then I wish them good luck with MP3, because that game was made for motion control with the Wiimote ONLY (just like Zelda: SS). I've played MP1 on the Wii U with the Wiimote and I actually liked it better than the Gamecube version with it's controller.
@retro_player_22 just a heads up, before playing Wii on Wii U go to system settings and select 480p then load up.
When you leave it at 1080p, Wii U boots the Wii mode and games in 480i which is horrid. Why? A simple spelling error that could have been fixed but as usual Nintendo didn't give a flying F. Just like refusing to tick box Donkey Kong 64 to allow 16:9.
@Vriess yeah the trilogy was best on Wii. The Wii mote and nunchuck made for some awesome FPS experiences. I played through COD on Wii U with it, brilliant.
@Vriess What would be so difficult? The original 2 games weren’t even dual stick. They would control better now with the added camera control from the right control stick.
Sorry just re-read your comment, i totally expect the games to be adapted for regular controls.
I would buy it again. Higher resolution, maybe some better texture maps and or some Unreal engine effects would be nice. But then again I'd be okay with just an HD port.
This man has worked at game informer for 19 months and before that he worked at Bestbuy.
It want this to be true, despite that clearly not being the truth.
Make it a free Ambassador Program game for everyone who bought and connected the Switch within the first six months or so, just a (wishful, naive) thought.
I really hope "more Metroid stuff" really means "more 2D Metroid" They can cancel MP4 for all I care if they give me a new real 2D Metroid
Depends on what the price tag is. I can currently play the trilogy on my Wii-U with the motion+ controllers, which I prefer over using the pro controller.
@electrolite77 and @r0b0tn1nja,
Hmm, maybe Retro was working on something else. But I am not sure, after all it has gone super quite on the Retro front over the years. If they are working on something for Switch, it better be something great.
Maybe that's the reason they tried to make it themselves (or asked a different company, we don't know). However I suspect they just wanted to make it themselves because that would be cheaper.
Anyway, at least they had the guts to start over from scratch and ask Retro. And they told us the situation. I mean, they could have stubbornly went through and delivered a very poor Metroid. Ah well, lets hope everything works out in the end.
@Henmii I concur. While the waiting stinks in the end better to have a great title in the series than a rushed sub-par product
@Vriess you haven’t played Wolfenstein II on Switch yet, have you?
The re-mastered MP trilogy is probably a Holiday 2019 release to fill the void as most predicted/assumed that MP4 would've been targeting that time for release had the development gone smoothly.
@VHSGLITCH
No, I haven't. Why? Because of gyro assisted aiming? Aiming the bow and arrow in BotW works adequately that way. It could work in MP Trilogy too I guess.
As far as I'm concerned, Nintendo should have gone to Retro Studios in the first place. They made the original Prime trilogy so memorable, you'd think it would have been a foregone conclusion. I guess the heads at Nintendo don't always prefer the obvious, even if it works.
Theory, what if it's Retro that's doing the MP Trilogy hd remake(possibly what they've been working on), nintendo saw how great it was/how lackluster the namco one was and said, you know what Retro...just do the new one too!
still no news about this? It would be perfect to have this on the Switch, even with added motion controls.
