Re: Review: Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice (3DS)

Darn it, "Not Bad" is what I expected, but I had hope that this would be an unequivocally good game, at least to silence the uninformed Sonic bashers for a couple months. Guess I'll have to wait until Spring for that.

@Anti-Matter I want a New 3DS XL, but I want to save money, so if the New 3DS is larger than the original 3DS that's good, my hands are getting too big for it.
I want a replacement 3DS for Pokemon Sun & Moon, but at the same time I want to see what the NX is before I buy a New 3DS, because I might buy an NX instead. So many things to buy and so little money...

This looks pretty fun. I'll probably buy it if one of my friends also gets it.
I should probably get a New 3DS too before Pokemon Sun and Moon come out anyway. But the NX is coming out soon too... So many things to buy and so little money to spend.

Re: Renegade Kid Has Kindly Offered To Port Sonic Mania To Nintendo 3DS

MetaRyan

Renegade Kid should try releasing an original game first that people will buy, they haven't done that in a while.
M2 could port it, or perhaps Whitehead could do it if he has extra time, since the Retro Engine's been tested on the 3DS before, plus the New 3DS natively supports it.
An NX version is very likely to happen, even if it's a couple months after the initial release.
There probably won't be a Wii U version since that console will be more or less over once the NX arrives.

If this is true, I'm a little worried about having some sort of upscaling-hub device. Even though it lets you play on a portable device, every game released for that system has to be able to run on the handheld by itself. And if it's around the PS3 in terms of power, some games just won't be able to run on it, even if a hub device would provide the additional power. A hub device would be necessary to play on the TV and have multiplayer, sure, but I'm worried that if the handheld itself is only as powerful as the Tetra X1, porting would be harder, and we'd have third parties skipping the console again.

Re: Talking Point: Free and Early Access Downloads Like Metroid Prime: Blast Ball Make a Lot of Sense

You know, I think I've really come to understand why people are upset with Federation Force.
Recently, I've been playing through Paper Mario TTYD. I've come to realize that, while Color Splash might end up being a fun game, Nintendo has made it clear that they aren't planning to ever make a TTYD-style Paper Mario sequel. And TTYD is such a great game. So knowing that future Paper Mario games will never have the same magic that TTYD has makes me sad, regardless of how good Color Splash ends up being.
I think it's the same with Metroid Prime fans. I assume the Metroid Prime trilogy was something special. Something fans hold dear to their hearts. And Nintendo, in a similar fashion to Paper Mario, is signalling that they aren't going to make a Metroid Prime game that has the same magic as the trilogy, so even if Federation Force is good, it can't replace that Samus-shaped hole in fans' hearts.
Or something. I mean, the Metroid series still has hope for future titles, while the Paper Mario series has a bleak future. But I think, in general, the reactions to Federation Force and Color Splash are similar in more ways than you might think.

Re: Talking Point: SEGA Has the Right Idea With Its Upcoming Sonic Projects

MetaRyan

The indies that are working on Sonic Mania (which could very well release on the NX, even if it's a port after the main release) aren't just any indies. They've got Christian Whitehead and Headcannon, who worked on the classic remasters and the fangame/ROM hack Sonic Megamix; they've got PadogaWest Games, which was formed by people who worked on Sonic 2 HD; and the composer is Tee Lopes, who did the soundtracks for Sonic 2 HD and Major Magnet. Tee Lopes happens to be my favorite Sonic music remixer.
So put simply, you probably couldn't find better indies to make a game like Sonic Mania.

@the101 Actually, the whole "Team A Team B" thing has been debunked. Turns out that saying comes from a fan pretending to be a Sega Insider from 2009. Turns out that Sonic Team is one team where people can be assigned to different projects if need be, like Colors and Generations, but there isn't a distinct "Team A" and "Team B".
