The UK-based retailer GAME may have lifted the lid on a Nintendo Direct presentation ahead of schedule. Now, to add to this, VentureBeat staff writer, reporter and verified Twitter user Jeff Grubb has published an article claiming a Nintendo Indie World video will "likely" be broadcast on 18th March, and a proper Nintendo Direct is expected to follow it on 26th March.
it’s in the final stages of putting the video presentation together. That’s based on what we’re hearing as well as some other indicators.
So, just to make it clear, not one – but two – video presentations are expected to air before the end of this month. While Jeff says he "can't confirm" the first-party titles that will be shown, he does say the next presentation will take a much "broader" look at Nintendo's upcoming software line-up.
The company is also expected to continue to rely "heavily on remasters and ports" and will bring in more support from third-party publishers and developers. He goes onto state that it's "definitely happening" and thinks we'll hear more about it early next week.
Nintendo is deep into the process of putting the event together based on what I’ve heard. It has decided many of the third-party games it will include in the event. So it’s definitely happening — and almost certainly before the end of March.
What do you make of this? Can you see an Indie World presentation and Nintendo Direct taking place before the end of this month? Let us know in the comments.

1st party or 3rd party or indies, bring it on !
Hopefully Ninjala will be released on Switch soon as Gung Ho promised their game will be released due Spring 2020.
Yessssssssssss!
Nintendo is just the smartest. A direct after Animal Crossing would be genius. Can't wait to see the next few Nintendo developed games, Animal Crossing will hold me over till then.
I'll believe it when Nintendo tweets it and not a moment earlier.
Please... indivisible for switch
That said, it would be about #$&%ing time.
Darn, I was hoping there would be a Direct before the 17th since that's when my Best Buy GCU discount expires, and I can't pre-order games that aren't announced yet
It doesn't matter if there is a direct or not. most people on this site will find something to complain about it because the game they want wasn't talked about.
@Pandagess Lol, so true, gamers are a sad bunch.
Okay let's remain calm and manage our expectations. Switch Pro, Metroid Prime 4 footage, BotW 2 trailer, Pikmin 4, new F-Zero, Banjo-Threeie for Switch.
Rumor? Rumor?!
angry Animal Crossing gibberish intensifies
Lol
Throw enough ideas at the wall and someone is bound to be right. I'm not one for trusting rumors like this.
A Direct days before the end of the fiscal year and then the annual financial meeting in April makes good sense. Along with the release and sales of the new AC, more money coming soon.
I can guarantee that one of those presentations will be a 24 hour stream of Miyamoto smelling his own farts.
The timing is definitely so they don't take attention away from Animal Crossing. It shouldn't be a surprise they would wait
AHHHH it’s finally happening!! I didn’t wanna get my hopes up because it’s been so long but I can’t wait. Pretty sure with all the rumors just spiraling and it seems a lot more reliable now we’re going to see some crazy stuff very soon
I hope so. E3 was just cancelled, and I was hoping to watch the Nintendo and Xbox presentations this year. I was just assuming we weren't going to get anymore videogame announcement/news until the coronavirus passed, but this could last all year, so this is good news in that sense.
@Cyberbotv2 Wow. Just saw your post and did a search. That’s a shame.
Help me spend my tax money Nintendo, let's make it rain!
If and I do mean if they do have Directs this month then the first one would either be later this week or next week in time for Animal Crossing New Horizons and Doom Eternal to be released. And the second would probably be either a Nindies Direct or a Pokemon Direct.
@Torakaka Didn't we already have Animal Crossing direct? Why waste time on another.
@mesome713 I did not say that the Direct will be an Animal Crossing one. I said that the Direct could happen before said game is released.
Rumour? RUMOUR!?! RUMOUR?!?!?!?!
I never heard of two directs happening in the same month, moretheless a week apart from each other.
If this is true, we're sounding the alarm.
I may be in the minority, but I hate these kinds of rumors. Too often I've seen "Direct coming next week!" and it doesn't come. If this leak is legit because this person is an employee helping to set it up, then I would like to see more NDAs being applied and severe punishment against those who break it to discourage others.
@nessisonett "a 24 hour stream of Miyamoto smelling his own farts."
At this point I'd watch it, but only if they were Pikmin farts.
Can you believe it's been 8 years?
Please...please stop. This is the 30th day in a row people have promised a direct with no evidence.
@Captain_Toad It's happened 7 or 8 times actually. Not 2 full Directs, but when these things starred they did them a lot. Until Iwata died, very infrequent since this. Which is why some of us get driven crazy when they go so long between Directs, they were nearly every month or twice a month when they started.
Much like Club Nintendo used to be good, then we got My Nintendo.
https://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct/archive/
@Kabloop I believe it.
@Cyberbotv2 Technically I don't think ti's been OFFICIALLY canceled yet, but lots of links saying it's all but over except for the announcement. In my head it isn't official until it's trending on twitter, and it isn't yet. And it certainly will be once they say.
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2020/03/e3_2020_is_about_to_be_cancelled
I think it cancelling is a mere formality at this point. Between Corona, Sony being a no-show, the rumour it will be "influencer-based" this time around (yiiiich), and the fact E3 in general has outlived its useful life (there's nothing Nintendo can do at E3 that they can't do with a big direct combined with free demos that you can download or play at Best Buy or whatever) this would seem like the year it's finally cancelled.
I'm expecting more Wii U and 3DS ports for Switch such as A Link Between Worlds, Metroid: Samus Returns, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Super Mario 3D World, and maybe a Skyward Sword HD remastered. Also giving us the Metroid Prime Trilogy HD collection would be awesome, also a remastered of the Operation Rainfall games would be great too, after the Xenoblade Chronicles Remastered, would love to see The Last Story and Pandora's Tower HD remastered as well.
@mesome713 I think it's the stupidest and weirdest marketing decision they ever made. They should not have left us waiting for almost 7 months to get a direct. They did directs before big games, I don't know why all of a sudden, they're apparently so concerned about doing a direct before AC comes out.
I really hope that this is true. They are way overdue for a direct and if this rumor is true, I really don't know why they decided to wait until after AC comes out to make a direct. It doesn't make any sense, what makes them think that a direct would ruin its sales? They never done this before and because of this, we are going to probably have a terrible H1.
I hope there's a lot of new games in there and not just ports and remasters. I don't want another 2018 especially after this long ass wait.
@retro_player_22 I hope Skyward Sword isn't going to be in the direct.
considering that nearly EVERY single tech/game show/convention has been or soon will be cancelled it makes sense for Nintendo (and other companies) to do these kinds of presentations. Nintendo has been putting off a real DIRECT for a few months now. Maybe the current state of things will change that.
“Heavily on remasters and ports”. Please give me remasters on Windwaker, Twilight Princess, and a port of Nier Automata (very unlikely though). Regardless, a man can dream.
Probably not happening, don't get your hopes up.
More than likely, Nintendo delayed or cancelled their Direct.
For one reason, they probably think it would be insensitive as people around the world are dying from the plague, markets are crashing and people aren't really thinking of video games right now, and two: they may not even be sure if they can deliver on games later this year.
To be honest, if CORONA-CHAN has her way, we would be LUCKY if we get ANY new console game releases later this year.
Remember, even if development isn't affected, they still have to manufacture and ship these games. (unless they're digital-only)
E3 is cancelled at this point and even the new PS5 and Series X launches will probably be delayed.
Video games aside, a lot of people seem to be sticking their heads in the sand over this.
The reality is, we could very well be under martial law situations in many areas of the nation in the coming months with serious food and supply shortages as the warehouses empty and the shipments halt.
Dear Nintendo (and Arika from Tetris 99),
In your next Direct I would like a mention about ENDLESS OCEAN 3 - Secrets of Atlantis, complete with music by Enya, Sarah Brightman, Dead Can Dance and Loreena McKennitt.
Thank you in advance.
@Impaler-D What parts of "the nation" are you saying there is going to be a martial law? Actually, about which nation? Greece, UK, Russia, Sweden, India?
I hope with all this time we have been waiting, there be some substantial announcements.
IF true, this suits my schedule better. I'd rather a Direct not show up this week due to my current IRL insanity. It's sort of a given that there's gonna be some sort of presentation before the month is out. A Direct in the final week would make sense; there's already been an Animal Crossing presentation, so airing a broadcast on what's next seems key.
@rjejr Man do I ever miss Club Nintendo.
@Cosats Mostly populated urban areas, I assume, and likely "all of the above" if you're going to be cheeky and pretend you don't understand I'm referring to the populated English-speaking nation from whom most visitors of this site likely visit, as they're responsible for most sales of these products.
@Pinkarray Kinda hard to do a direct when you don't have a game. Nintendo is getting like Sony, making one game a year. It's sad.
Nope, not falling for more direct rumors. Sure, it may be true, but weren't we supposed to get two directs in February? Assuming this IS correct, the general direct needs to land before the Indie direct. No offense to Indies (Most of my favorite games these days are Indies) but we had an Indie direct three months ago where as its been 6 months since a general direct.
@Chowdaire Have to heavily rely on indies to carry your lineup when you dont have much planned. I really hope this isnt the case...
Hopefully it’s a switch pro as one of the announcements. It’s definitely much needed at this point. CPUs, GPUs, Ram, and hard drives are taking the biggest steps on power we’ve ever seen before. A lot of developers won’t even bother with the switch when the PS5/Xbox series comes out.. Not to mention PC is about to have a massive upgrade on tech come the end of the year. We are already seeing this on switch now with outsourcing development on most 3rd party games, and also getting badly downgraded ports. Other than that I want Splatoon 3, Mario kart 9, Pikmin, and some other games Nintendo has been working on.
Switch Pro 2.0HD.......
@Kevember you forgot mario galaxy 3 announcement, Bayoneta 3 demo and xenoblade chronicles x 2
TREASURENAUTS. That is all I have to say. Oh... and I want Devils Third for Switch. Best Multi-player Ever.
I'm all for ports if it means we get 3D World in November...
I’m still hoping for a Metroid Prime HD trilogy set and perhaps Windwaker/Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword in the near future.
Also aching for remasters of Eternal Darkness, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.
I'm gonna laugh if a Direct doesn't happen this month. lol
All I want is xcom 2......
@Impaler-D I genuinely had no idea which nation you were referring to. There are so many nations. This is a UK based site, so my first thought was maybe there, but it has users all over Europe as well as in Asia and the Americas.
But really, the internet is a borderless entity, so using expressions like “the nation” and expecting everyone to somehow infer your nationality is a bit of a gamble.
Even if these rumours are true my hopes for this Direct are really low. Just not feeling it this time. Hopefully I’ll be completely blown away. A new 1080(!!!) would do that for sure.
[edit] $€¥% even just typing out 1080 has sent my unrealistic hopes through the roof.
My (over the top and unrealistic) wishlist....
Remakes/remasters: MP Trilogy, Twilight Princess, Oracle games getting same treatment as Link's Awakening, Arkham Collection, Mass Effect Trilogy, Project Rainfall games.
Indies: Indivisible, Crosscode release date,
Heart Forth Alicia, Outer Wilds, Journey to the Savage Planet, Supraland 2, Witchbrook, Sunless Seas/Skies, Baldo, Tower of Time
3rd Party (AAA):
Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga, Gods and Monsters, Outer Worlds release date,
1st Party: BotW 2, MP 4
Whew!! That got wordy...
Any chance of Super Mario Sunshine remaster?
@TDRsuperstar2
Don't count on it. The Indivisible devs finally responded to someone on the official forum, when questioned about the almost 6 month radio silence, and it was basically: "We're very busy working on that version and some other content we still need to release for Indivisible, but we have nothing to report now".
Yeah.... sounds like we can call ourselves very lucky if the Switch version launches at all this year, based on this statement and my experience with other kickstarter based games >.>
I'm also waiting for Super Cloudbuilt to be announced for the Switch, love that game and would gladly double-dip for a portable version, but I reckon the devs have moved on at this point v.v
I am the leader of nom and I demand a direct on the 23rd of March! We nintendroids need it or will suffer major crashes to our databases.....! Do..... It.... No.... W! 🌍🤖
All I want is Metroid Prime Trilogy HD and I would be as happy as a pig in s....t
Rumours, enough of them and you are bound to be correct eventually.
Nintendo are either short of game releases or they are holding back. We are coming to the end of the first quarter of 2020 and we have Animal Crossing and not much else.
For all the AC fans you will be ok for a couple of months, but non AC fans?
The reason we don't get regular directs is because Nintendo has nothing to say.
@TDRsuperstar2 what do you mean with that? Indivisible has been confirmed for Switch for ages xD
Unless you mean "gimme the freaking game now, I can't wait!".
In that case, I agree.
@Joeynator3000 Just Indie World this month would cause more salt than nothing this month.
The nostalgic in me wants a new donkey kong «64» game suprise or a banjo kazooie «3». A new Nintendo IP that can compete in the hack and slash genre against diablo would be cool, or A new ip in the Mmo genre.
Zelda botw 2 would be Nice (Even though i have barely started with botw, so a late release Pls hehe).
Also hoping roblox takes the jump over to the Nintendo.
@Chowdaire it's CHOWDER !!! Spell it right, Frenchie!
I read that E3 is being cancelled? Maybe thats the reason to do two Directs?
Announcement today, probably.
Keeping my expectations in check, however, I am hoping to see more of Xenoblade Chronicles Remastered along with a release date. I suspect they will keep the bigger announcements for their June Direct.
Ports? Clog up my Switch with HD GameCube games, Nintendo. I'll pay!
Ports ports ports. Skyward Sword would be great, never played it on the Wii. But I’d surly love a new Mario Galaxy. However Since Odyssey did so well I’m sure we’d get a sequel to that before a new Galaxy title. Hopefully something fun for summer? Absolutely zero interest in Animal Crossing.
"Folks, we heard your voices and realize that we remastered the wrong Xenoblade game. Allow me present to you... Xenoblade Chronicles X Perfect"
I am in Italy and the whole country is blocked because of the COVID-19 outbreak (I constantly watch the official data and young people don't need to worry!). We have to stay at home except for work, medical care and groceries.
So I really hope Nintendo releases some very good games I can have delivered at my place to play while I'm stuck at home (I'm in University so I don't need to go to work).
I'm really rooting for Galaxy 1&2 hd or Galaxy 3, one of the wiiu zelda remasters, some more info on botw2 (probably too early), some new IP I can't even imagine. Oh and persona 5! What about mario kart 9? It would definitely be an awesome game! Nier automata would be great too (if it runs decently).
I'm not believing any of this until announced by Nintendo
More ports hum... Well I am okay with the forks, I need to bring in some new games as well, I especially want to see a Super Mario Odyssey sequel.
It depends on which ports and remasters they put out.
I believe the indie direct and when it does drop everyone is going to be saying nintendo are trolling us where is the real direct. Well i won't be saying it but game streamers will no matter how good this indie direct is.
Grumble Grumble need direct now. Also really wish the normal direct was first, I just don't care about as many of the nindie's lately probably because the e-shop is just filled with so much garbage and needs a rehaul.
Still waiting for Super Mario 3D world port.
Wii U is a mine of unplayed games
@mesome713 honestly Animal Crossing is big enough that it is by itself likely the biggest reason for the "delays" in this year's Direct. Plus the only "know" mid-big release with a known release date is SE's Trials of Mana which releases only in April so having Directs with blurbs about it would have been a bit too early before March.
Also, it's a possibility that coronavirus and how much it forced companies further into remote world could have delayed a little bit something like a Direct which makes uses of film crew/etc to prepare after all.
@dougphisig tbh the nindies Direct always came before full blown Direct.
It's a way for Nintendo to show they're still committed to indies which were probably some of the ONLY third party support for Switch in 2017 for the most part, and giving indies their own Direct allow the "full" Direct to better focus on the bigger releases.
And having the nindies Direct first percent it from being immediately overshadowed by the "bigger" which is re: a way for Nintendo to show it's still committed to indies because of a bigger Direct will never be overshadowed by a Nindies direct coming first... a Nindies Direct would risk being utterly ignored(even when it has sizable surprises with the potential to become fan-favorite) by a bigger Direct coming first.
Hate it or not, having the Nindies direct coming first when fans are hungry for ANY Direct is a good way to let potential indie "gems" the chance to shine at all when, as many stated, the pace of releases on the eshop can bury many among them so very quickly without a signal boost provided by the likes of a Direct.
@bones indie direct likely always come first anyway because otherwise people would automatically ignore it if they'd anyway gotten the "bigger" Direct first.
In a way, and especially considering how fast the eshop moves these days, it's a very nice way for Nintendo to continue showing true commitment to supporting indies.
Plus if you want to think about it, Direct are like concerts. It's always newer/smaller bands serving as the "opening act" to warm up the crowds before the main gig. But often some of them can be very much chosen because they are very decent acts on their own.
Because at the end of the day people will come to the concert for the main gig... but if it came BEFORE the smaller bands people would leave as soon as the main gig was over and potentially miss on what might have been a surprising discovery for them in the form of these smaller bands.
So having nindies before "real" direct might be a really smart move from Nintendo since re: people will be hungry for ANY Directs thus the appeal of Directs will still draw people to pay attention for the Nindies one to whet their appetite before the "main" gig... and perhaps because a nice discovery or two along the way.
@Blizzia it was confirmed for ages but the likes of Directs are still a good way to go "hey not only is this coming here, it's coming soon" and thus to renew awareness of it in the fans' eyes.
Which ultimately is the sort of thing Directs are about. And probably why nindies might generally come before the "main" Directs because fans are always hungry for "any" Directs and using that hunger to actually promote indies games before the "real" Direct come to sate it is a nice way for Nintendo to REALLY support indies in ways so many other platforms... don't.
@Kevember Banjo is still a Microsoft character so I don't know about that. Maybe a reason they were taking really long is because they were trying to get ready for there New console or they just had a lot of games to talk about, Because supposedly Bioshock hd collection was confirmed for switch but Other than that nothing and I want that on Nintendo Switch Just like other games that haven't got much presence in information.
Watch they will just delay it more can't blame them
To be true they actually don't have to Make any directs but they choose to do so everyone just chill.
Nintendo really needs to start communicating. I usually don't care too much but this now feels like Wii U era lack of games and excitement.
Let it go, people. There is no Easter Bunny, there is no Tooth Fairy and there is no Nintendo Direct.😈
@RPGamer right but it would be nice to have like a date to shoot for instead of the old standby “it’s coming soon” meanwhile everyone got the game in like 2018
This kind of makes sense now. After many video presentations every month since the year began, Nintendo wants April to be Direct-free, so they're holding the proper Direct for the last days of the month. By doing that, we will have a lot to talk about in April and beyond.
And by the way... you are talking about third-parties ports, new games and remasters, but I'm just waiting for a new Nintendo game.
@RPGamer same! I love the art style... the developera on their Twitter say coming soon... but it’s like okay???
Still no date though... ☹️
@LavaTwilight ... Chowdaire.
Hope they announce Super Mario 3D World. It’s time. And add online coop to it please.
I’m not holding my breath but it would be nice to get a Direct soon. Here’s a short list of some stuff I’m hoping for Nintendo to reveal to us:
i want them to announce
Mario Spots mix
Mario odessey 2
Pokemon Lets go 2/Or D&P remakes
new DK game 2d or 3d
New fox game
ports of MVC 2 and 3
am i the only one who wants a kid icuarus game BOTW style ??
At this point, it seems extremely likely that Nintendo has postponed their plans because of COVID-19. But hopefully they'll keep moving. Gaming is one of the easiest hobbies to keep trucking along during all the self imposed quarantine happening globally and particularly in the dense urban centers of Japan.
@geminiboy I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you won't be playing Fairy Tail any time too soon. The release date was pushed back until June 25th.
That being said, I agree. This year has Animal Crossing, Fairy Tail, Xenoblade remake, Bravely Default II.. already a lot of big games I'll be soaking a lot of time into. And I haven't even started on Tokyo Mirage Sessions yet.
@geminiboy What region is that? It's delayed everywhere, I read. Japan, the UK, US, Australia. The producer said it was worldwide. And he said specifically about why: "I am truly sorry for Fairy Tail's delay, and the inconvenience caused to our fans, partners, and stakeholders who are looking forward to this title," he wrote. "Please allow us to take further time to polish the game to ensure it is as high quality as possible, so we can offer you a truly immersive experience."
They're literally still developing the game. It would be next to impossible for any region to get it early unless it was finished. And if it were finished, it wouldn't need to be delayed.
Last game I bought for the Switch was Luigis mansion. So that’s about 5 months ago and with no interest in Animal Crossing I really need a nice Direct to bring some attention.
I will definitely lose faith in Atlus if they have nothing to show for in regards to Shin Megami Tensei V...
it would be announced today if there is one and we got the indie world soo this rumor could be true
