My excitement fully depends on how they go about it. If it's a proper title that is tailormade for the Switch I am all in. If it's either a cloud version or a severly downgraded port I'm out.
Despite what people say, playing CoD every now and then is pretty fun and one that is specifically made with the Switch hardware in mind sounds very appealing to me. Especially if it had gyro aiming ...
I don't have much to say about this other than:
1) Good for PS5/Xbox players, the game is amazing! Despite what some people may have you believe this doesn't take away from the Switch version whatsoever. It's still the definitive version for me due to the portability, maybe even more so now since I can actually hunt with followers while riding the train (which I have done last week, it is awesome). The game runs great on the Switch anyway, it's by far the most technical impressive game on the system imo. Solid framerate with great visuals, this is some true technical sorcery.
2) Cross-save should have been a top priority. I actually bought MH World on PC after spending hundreds of hours on the PS4 version and I quickly realized that I don't enjoy restarting from scratch in these games so I ended up not playing a whole lot of the PC version. There's no way I'd ever double dip on MH Rise after having spend hundreds of hours on the Switch version if I am forced to start over again.
It still has my favourite open world out of all the open world games that I have played. Traversing the world with the mechs was awesome and the ecosystem of the wildlife was outstanding, like it reminded me of Monster Hunter to some extent.
Also, the sondtrack gets a lot of flak but it has some truly great songs. Entering Sylvalum at night when all the plants glow up and then the amazing night theme starts playing, man... This will be a memory I will never forget.
@mereel Yeah, all the negativity everytime this game gets mentioned is weird. My playtime is around 60 hours atm, all of it from playing online. Imo this is one of the best first party games when it comes to online play. All the weekly updates with new items to unlock have been fun aswell.
The more I see of the remake the less I am interested which sucks since the original was one of my favourite games on the GC. Good thing Stardew Valley exists, it's kind of all anyone needs anyway.
This is such a good port. I booted it up on my PS4 Pro and my Switch back to back to compare the two versions and the Switch version holds up remarkably well. I never got very far in the PS4 version but I'm now in the C ending playthrough on the Switch.
It's so funny to see Sony being so concerned about losing CoD considering they spent money on getting timed exclusive maps, modes, etc. on Playstation for years thus screwing over people on the other platforms. Feels like sweet justice to me
I can't help but feel like PLA gets overpraised due to people's dislike of Sword and Shield. The game is a glorified tech demo and all the good stuff it brought to the table doesn't make up for all the stuff we lost in the process. This also feels like a slap in the face of Monolith who created such an amazing game with Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Blue. It was also my first videogame. I didn't know how to exit the starting house until my sister showed me and I had no idea that you could save your progress which meant I kept starting the game over and over. Fun memories indeed!
Kind of buffling that the games look and run worse with every new game coming to the Switch. The Let's Go games looked beautiful with pretty much no performance issues yet here we are ... I guess that's what people get for wanting their open world experience in every franchise.
This will be the first time that I won't jump into a new Pokemon generation at launch. Everything I have seen so far looks like a straight up downgrade compared to Sword and Shield, especially when it comes to character design and trainer customization. I will get the improved version / version with DLC down the road. It's pretty obvious that developing Legend Arceus and SV simultaneously hurt both games.
Edit: Not sure if this has been a thing for a while but I really like the "second opinion" part of the review because it highlights that reviews are just opinion pieces in the end. People seem to have a hard time grasping that concept.
I have started nicknaming all of my Pokemon that I am using on my teams (both story and competitive) since Gen 4 and I will keep doing it. It adds a bit of personality to the Pokemon
I don't really care about Harry Potter but I am interested in seeing how the Switch version turns out since I was fully expecting this to be a cloud version when it was announced.
I just saw the credits roll in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and I will take part in the current Splatfest in Splatoon 3 (go team Grass!). If I find the time I will probably also start playing Nier Automata.
Wow, that is a close poll! New Leaf did nothing for me and I dropped it after like 30 hours. Meanwhile I spend hundreds of hours decorating my island in New Horizons, it's easily the better game for me
The less of the original English voice actors are coming back the better. BotW was the only game in years that I had to actually play in German because the English VA was so bad that it actually affected the experience for me.
Well my list would be completely different but everyone values different aspects in design. I am far from being a "genwunner" but imo the Gen 1 starters are the perfect example of what I want to see in a Pokemon. They all look so natural and animalistic unlike later gens which often have at least one starter that looks way too humanoid or even worse in case of the Alola regions.
The NA/EU one immediately tells me that this is a racing game so it gets my vote (specifically the NA one since the colours look better). The Japanese one is way too ambigous, for all I know that game is about space exploration.
I actually booted it up the other day because I needed something soothing since I am quite stressed at the moment. Just chilling on my island with no stakes is very calming. That's something ACNH always excelled at for me and I am sure it will continue to do so going forward. New content would of course be appreciated but I think the game is fine as is already.
I don't think it's bad value at all but as was already pointed out in earlier comments: the value greatly decreases after the first year. The updates to the service are just way too slow for that
@Dr_Luigi It is never the hardware's fault period. Developers are aware of the hardware limitations before going into development. If the game runs poorly its either because the developers did not develop with those limitations in mind or they are bad at optimizing for the hardware. But blaming it on the hardware makes no sense. The Switch is 5 years old and GameFreak had their hands on it for even longer, they know about the hardware and its limitations.
I think it's a pretty cool "innovation". If "soul" really is such an important aspect of art, then surely good artists have nothing to fear going forward, right?
I do however think that copyright issues need to be sorted out first before this becomes a big thing. But then again, people like to make an argument as to why pirating games isn't theft since nothing gets stolen so people might actually be okay with an AI "stealing pieces of art" ...
That's a pretty big update! I bought the game but haven't had the time to play it yet unfortunately but seems like I will get an even better experience once I get around to it.
@Tangerine You are 100 % right but I don't think people will ever learn. Even on this site I have seen people who "proudly canceled their preorder" after the initial tweets just backpaddle to "anyway, VA should be paid more money" after the lies were exposed. Fighting injustice - whether real or not - is what their lifes are all about. They'll just wait for the next big scoop to grab their pitchforks.
To be frank, it is not my duty as a consumer to ensure that the people working on the project get compensated fairly. We are talking about adults who can make their own decisions. PG offered her a wage for the job and she declined because she wasn't content with it. That's the end of it.
And to be honest, I am really tired of all the Twitter drama of people being unhappy with working in the gaming industry. If her breaking the NDA doesn't come back to bite her she can count herself lucky. And that also doesn't leave a good impression for potential future employers.
Probably the photo mode. I ended up making hundreds of screenshots in Pokemon Sword and Shield, I am sure this one will be no different. The rest was either already in previous games (like raiding) or I don't really care about it. Though I am interested to see how they are going to implement autobattling.
@Would_you_kindly "noticable" being the key word here. If you need to run analysis software to detect some framedrops it hardly qualifies as "noticable"
This game was only fun due to the glitches so I am not sure why everyone keeps making fun of them/complaining about them. Take them away and you are left with incredibly regressive grind that GameFreak has tried to reduce since Generation 5. ILCA was a poor choice for the remakes and I have played way better (Japanese) games on the Switch in 2021 so I don't really feel like these deserve any award. And I am saying that as a massive Pokemon fanboy.
I used to play the GC version with my sister all the time back in the day. There was no Internet for us so we had a blast figuring everything out on our own. Can't wait to relive some childhood memories with this one
My personal highlight of the direct. I have been hoping for a sequel or at least a port of the originals for years. This will be a day one purchase without any hesitation
