Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Splatoon 3

MajinSoul

@Axecon COD existing is exactly why I find the Splatoon situation so weird. For years we have had people complaining about new COD games (much of the mock coming from Nintendo fans no doubt) but when it comes to Splatoon it is suddenly okay to release sequels that barely qualify as games that can stand on their own. I can't help but feel like there is a lot of Nintendo bias at play here.

Either way, I hope the people getting it will enjoy it but I have had my fill of Splatoon with the first two games. Nothing screams "I must play this over the other 2 games" from what I have seen apart from the fact that you are finally able to skip the annoying announcement section upon booting up the game (which is something that shouldn't have taken 3 games to implement to begin with ...)

Re: Review: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 2 - Harmless Fun, But More "B-Side Filler"

MajinSoul

They admittedly put a bit more efforts into the visuals this time but overall the tracks still scream "Mario Kart Tour" to me and that style just clashes too much with the gorgeous artstyle of MK8. Also, there are still no anti-grivity features in any of the tracks which is just lazy. It's been so long since we got a new MK game and seeing these half-hearted tracks just isn't going to cut it for me.

Re: Soapbox: All I Want From Mario Kart 8's DLC Is More Tracks Like Baby Park

MajinSoul

Ah yes, Baby Park. Remember the frustrating feeling of getting hit by a Blue Shell at the last lap and then going from first place to something like 5th place right at the end of the race? Baby Park is exactly that only that the frustration lasts for 7 laps. I understand that Mario Kart is also a party racer but I personally enjoy the competitive aspects of the series and being rewarded for learning the controls, items and maps. Baby Park being almost completely reliant on RNG just isn't fun to me.

Re: Review: Capcom Fighting Collection - An Essential Buy For One-On-One Fighting Fans

MajinSoul

@AmplifyMJ I just think many of these bullet points are weird and feel very forced. "Having played them before" in the review of re-release of games and "fanservice might not be for everyone" in the review of a fanservice games and "arcade soccer might not be for everyone" in an arcade soccer game review are just very very weird. If the reviewer can't come up with a "real" negative then they shouldn't be forced to come up with one anyway.

Re: Pokémon Sword & Shield's Art Director Announces New Game Studio

MajinSoul

Gen 8 had some of the best designs in the franchise so I never understood the hate he got. Anyway, with Turner leaving and Masuda moving away from GF to TPC there seem to be some major changes happening within GameFreak. The impact will probably be noticable in whatever comes next after Violet/Scarlet.

Re: Video: The Switch eShop Is Bad, And It's Making Us Sad

MajinSoul

It's way better than the 3DS and WiiU eshop. The only thing missing is a basket which for some reason is available for DLC but not for the games themselves...

Most complaints can easily be solved by using DekuDeals which I highly recommend everyone to make frequent use of.

Re: Soapbox: Free Game Updates Are Fantastic For Everyone, Except New Players

MajinSoul

Complaining about extra content and updates heavily seems like a "you" issue to me. Dead Cells is a singleplayer game that is meant to be played over and over again. It doesn't matter if you "can't catch up" to people who have been playing longer than you. The same goes for MMOs. They NEED updates or else they can't retain a playerbase. If you are that worried about being left behind, many MMOs offer level skips/content skips to get you up to speed.
The only time I can see constant updates being an issue are the GaaS games with rotating shop items and battle passes like Gran Turismo 7 as was already mentioned or Chocobo GP. While that model sucks even more for new players, it is bad for every player - new or old.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Warriors Game On Switch?

MajinSoul

I have not played all of them but from the ones I have played I'd rank them like this:
Hyrule Warriors > Age of Calamity > Fire Emblem Warriors.
Hyrule Warriors was already a blast on WiiU but with the changes and additions from the 3DS version they made the game even better.

Re: Feature: Just How Accessible Are Switch Games Like Xenoblade, Pokémon, And Mario Odyssey?

MajinSoul

While I personally am not vision impaired, I think a "colorblind" mode should be in every modern gaming release.
I also think Animal Crossing New Horizons having some bugs that can only be located via audio cues is very questionable. Deaf people pretty much cannot catch all bugs unless they want to dig up their entire island in the respective months.

Also, gotta agree with previous posters that this article is weird. "A very refreshing take on the Pokémon series" doesn't really have anything to do with accessibility. The article may have been in good faith but doesn't really deliver on what it sets out to do.

Re: Video: We Instantly Make Nintendo Switch Sports Better

MajinSoul

@cyrus_zuo Yeah, I also like the game for what it is. Plus the online performance may actually be Nintendo's best efforts so far. I had a few issues of "could not connect to other consoles" so far but other than that the online is flawless even when playing football with 7 other players. Kinda puts titles like Smash Bros Ultimate to shame when it comes to online performance.

Re: Video: Is Nintendo Switch Sports Really That Bad?

MajinSoul

This game actually delivers exactly what I expected from it: a relatively shallow/barebones collection of sports games that I won't be playing for multiple hours at a time but rather will be playing from time to time for the years to come. In that sense it reminds me of Clubhouse 51, a game that I really enjoy playing for a few minutes from time to time.

That said, I gotta echo what many others have already said: stop with the drip feeding approach already. Yes, it worked well with Splatoon on WiiU but that was a very different situation. Ever since then they seem to make this their go to design approach when releasing games with online play (Tennis Aces, Golf Super Rush, New Horizons, Splatoon 2, Switch Sports, ...) but this just leads to games feeling barebones at launch. Nintendo games used to be one of the few games worth picking up at launch without feeling like you are getting screwed over for being an early adopter. This is slowly starting to change, at least when it comes to their online games ...
