Japanese chart figures are now in for 12th November - 18th November, unsurprisingly revealing that Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! have snagged top spot without any concern from rival games. The Switch has also seen a hugely significant boost in sales as a result.
The new entries into the Pokémon franchise generated a whopping 661,240 sales in just three days, easily beating this week's other major entry Fallout 76 by just under 600,000. Of course, it's worth noting that these figures only take into account physical sales, so digital sales will likely take that number up a few notches, too.
Also new on Switch this week was RPG Maker MV which shifted a much more modest 2,641 copies. Here's a look at the top 20 (first numbers are this week's sales, followed by total sales in brackets):
1) [NSW] Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! (Bundle Editions Included) (Nintendo, 11/16/18) – 661,240 (New)

As noted above, the Switch itself has seen an incredible jump this week thanks to the new Pokémon games. This week saw over 200,000 Switch consoles be sold in Japan alone, almost quadrupling last week's total of 54,235. Here are this week's figures, with last week's in brackets.

Phew. That's pretty impressive. Still, a long way to go to hit that 20m hardware sales target - but it might not be wholly out of reach, especially if Smash is a, er, smash hit.
Amazing ! I knew it would sell like crazy
Wow that’s amazing
Impressive, most impressive! Smashing so to speak!
Pokemon is no joke! Wow, that's some crazy good numbers to head into the holidays with.
See, that's the true power of Pokémon.
Wow wasnt expecting that big of a jump. I still dont think they will hit there 20 million target though.
That's no surprise the Pokemon factor was always there so that not surprising to anyone who knows Pokemon.
Wow!! Great number for Pokemon and Switch!!! Japan has about 5,000,000 switch owners, so this means 1 of 7 has bought Pokemon the first 3 days.
@illmatic20xx trolling again are we. If one doesn't know Pokemon then your one of those.
Wow that's huge and this is just a (very enjoyable) remake - what will it be like next year when the new generation comes out?
Selling in the first week less than Splatoon 2 (670k) on a significantly larger install base somehow doesn't impress me. I guess Pokemon is indeed starting to fade away in Japan.
Very impressive, at least when compared to the pathetic UK numbers.
Very good for not being a "real" Pokemon game "made for babiez"
@Preposterous I'd wait to see how Pokemon 2019 sells before declaring that. There's still a lot of Pokemon fans who see these as spinoffs not worth getting. Keep in mind, there are two factors to take into account, remakes in the Pokemon series usually sell significantly less than new games, and a lot of kids are getting the games for Christmas, which means their parents don't have to buy day 1.
I've been having a blast with Eevee.
3 days sales 664k only in Japan Still digital copy not included.The total number is going to be exploded
Quite impressive. Hoping the continued sales lead to more third party releases
Nice! Always glad to see these games sell well & help boost Nintendo sales. Def not as strong as Sun/Moon but these games are also $20 more. I’m a ure that factors in. I’ve been enjoying Let’s Go. Still missing wild Pokémon battles but beyond that it’s cool. Def a worthy purchase for Pokémon fans.
Weird how Japan lists the games as one yet the UK lists them separately.
The only thing I don't really like about these games is that you can basically beat the game with just your partner Pokémon. Eevee is pretty much OP when you get to Cerulean and can learn the partner moves.
Take that hateful Russian bots! I wish this game nothing but success because it's an awesome reimagining (that in no way will diminish the next-gen Pokémon games coming out in 2019). People need to stop being so bloody hateful all the time, and just enjoy things.
I’m personally not buying it and I’ve bought all the Pokémon games so far. I really hope the 2019 game is more impressive.
Very big numbers. I wonder whether either Pokemon or Smash will beat Odyssey's 9 million units (from last year) in Q3.
I'm more impressed by the 200,000 Switch sales, honestly. I know Japanese markets don't go all out on Black Friday, but they still have holiday sales leading up to the new year. So if 200,000 people couldn't hold off an extra week for better prices, then I'm sure they're going to have a stellar performance closing out 2018.
I'm glad it's doing well but to be fair, Japanese gamers have never cared about pretending to be 'big boys and girls' by playing 18-rated games when they're about 12. At least they seemingly don't care about the new Pokemon being for 'babiez' when the whole series is, at the end of the day, made for children first.
Awesome sales,totally expected as the masses will buy these new Pokemon games all day long.
So ultra sun and ultra moon are still selling! That's interesting.
@SwitchForce Umm how am i trolling? All i said was Nintendo probably wont reach 20 million goal, but i do think they will come close. I swear fanboys so sensitive.
@Fuz You're right, good spot! We've fixed this now, cheers 🙂
That's 1% of the 20m forecast, in 1 week, in 1 country
20m is PRETTY DOABLE, especially considering the UK reports
Wow, those hardware sales are impressive. Huge jump. Hopefully they will hold up there over the next few weeks so it’s not a one week wonder. Great to see. The more switch units sold the more publishers can’t ignore the player base and stick more and more games on it. Great for everyone
Good numbers and good for us all
Wow you could add all the hardware numbers from 2-9 combined and the numbers still won't surpass the Switch.
My god I've laughed at this.
Hope switch selling well so more fabulous games will be on Nintendo Switch.
They positioned this one just right.
This was no surprise at all. Any Pokemon game, regardless of it's quality, will make a killing in Japan. In fact, I'm willing to bet Let's Go will sell more copies in Japan than Smash. Think about that.
Ehhh...these Pokmeon launch sales are pretty mediocre IMHO. It had the lowest debut ever for a mainline Pokemon title outside of the original Red/Green. X/Y sold over 3X more at launch (though the 3DS install base was much bigger in 2013 than the Switch install base right now).
This is a stark contrast to the UK, where Let's Go's launch sales were roughly the same as the launch sales of all other mainline Pokemon games outside of Sun/Moon.
On the other hand, Switch hardware sales are staggering. This was the 4th biggest week for Switch hardware sales ever, only behind its March 3rd 2017 launch week and the two weeks preceding Christmas 2017.
@westman98 Lowest console base + more expensive + not a new generation but a remake/spin-off; seems like sales are pretty good, could be higher but not bad... at all
@illmatic20xx Those are the phrases naysayers been using as the Switch is hitting the mark. You don't hear that said of the other table consoles but suddenly when Switch is climbing there they must put another down to improve their own self esteem. That's where it starts to get old.
@Mogster The articles about the UK week 1 sales were completely misleading. Let's Go did Average(for Pokemon, which is great for almost anything else) in the UK Week One. Everyone comparing it to Sun and Moon were just trying to make the game look bad on purpose.
Sun and Moon sold Twice as many copies as every other Pokemon Game in Week One because it was sold on a dirt cheap Console with a 60 million console User Base.
@DarthFoxMcCloud 👏🏻
What a hardware jump!!! Impressive.
I'm interested in worldwide figures but God knows when we'll get to know that
@nessisonett Wat?
Some fans are upset because the game is easier. There is a difference between targeting babies and children.
The series has always been targeted towards children. Was it necessary to attempt to make the game more accessible?
No.
And some of us like our mature games because they're fun. RDR2 included.
@Faruko
It's interesting that those factors seem to have hindered Let's Go sales so much in Japan, but not in the West, where sales are on par with other mainline Pokemon entries (outside of Sun/Moon). I guess the nostalgia for Gen 1 Pokemon is greater in the West than it is in Japan.
Pokemon Let's Go is now the fastest-selling Switch game ever both in Japan and across the world. Too bad it will only hold on to that record for 3 weeks because of Smash Bros Ultimate.
@SwitchForce Just let you know i want Switch to sell 20 million. Also nobody talk bout other consoles cause Xbox one is dead pretty much and PS4 is on its way out. 2019 Nintendo will dominate, but lets be honest this year kind been lackluster for Switch; though Smash will probably be my game of the year.
@SwitchForce Only thing worse than a blind Nintendo hater, is a blind Nintendo fanboy. Quit being over-senstive. There was nothing wrong with his remark.
@Preposterous it's not a main game
Just wait for the real Pokémon RPG next year. Switch sales are gonna be nuts when that comes out in 2019. I have my copy of let’s go Pikachu but I’m waiting until Christmas to play because I have the Eevee version for my son. Looking forward to playing!
Why would anybody be surprised at Pokemon selling?!
Anyway, great numbers in Japan and the U.K. (from just 3 days of sales), if the US and Europe does similar its off to a great start.
@Mogster
Eh? U.K. sales were really good. Both games combined would have been Number 1.
Not for me (next year is mine) but after talking for 2 hrs with my little niece about it and seeing how excited she was to get... Not surprised.
Got 2 in the closet as Christmas gifts - well done Nintendo.
All indications suggest that Smash Bros Ultimate launch sales will double Pokemon Let's Go's launch sales, so it will be interesting to see what Switch hardware sales look like during the week of 7th December.
RPG Maker MV looks like it’s bombing on both PS4 and Switch. At least it has about equal sales on both consoles.
@westman98 Hello awng782!
@Saprozoic they should compare Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon from last year to Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee, because they're going to be pretty close, if not more for Let's Go. Plus, Ultra were the most recent releases technically.
Triple-A developers would be silly if they didn't start to make versions of their games for the lower-powered Switch. It's a gold mine.
@westman98 Do you have a source for these figures? The figures I saw on twitter, originally sourced from famistu, paint a slightly different picture.
Initial three day sales in japan:
X/Y: 1.2m from 24m install base (15.8%)
Omega/alpha: 1.5m from 16.6m (5%)
Sun/moon: 1.9m from 22m (8.6%)
Ultra: 1.2m from 24m (5%)
Let's go: 0.66m from 5.5m (12%)
source: https://twitter.com/serkantoto/status/1065187670211477504?s=19
From this it appears that in terms of results from the first three days, which is pretty much all we have to go on here, let's go has done proportionally better than everything other than XY since 2013.
That is despite being noticably more expensive, not a true mainline game and being aimed at a different market. You might expect that as increasingly more people embrace digital that online sales would be larger in the newer games as well. Now the lifetime sales might of course be a different story but it's fair to say it certainly hasn't bombed and those extra 150k switch units didn't just magically sell themselves for no reason.
@nintendosage Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon out sold Let's Go on physical sales for the first 3 days. It was about 2x as much, however it was off of an install base of about 5 times the Switch's base and also available on a platform several times cheaper (2DS).
Yay, Viva Pokemon Let's Go !
@BensonUii I'm sure we can dig out some good quotes...but yeah, doomed.
Its amusing to see a few people try and belittle these big sales numbers when everyone knows full well that if we saw 200k Wii Us go out the door in a single week during that era, we'd all be stunned and estatic. This is a big accomplishment, no matter if its Pokemon or not, and we should be excited for a bigger install base all around.
Generation 8 will destroy in sales, Smash will generate a lot of good numbers too.
I really want to see Nintendo keep the momentum going.
Despite I don't like Let's Go, I never thought it would bomb (even bad fast food sells), but I can't feel anything other than disappointment really. I fear this little experiment may grow and corrupt the main entries now that they saw it sold this many.
I’d say that is great for a game that is a spin-off of Pokémon and not a main entry. Bad news for Bethesda on Fallout all across the board. Hope they didn’t put too much effort into the game (which it doesn’t look like they did)
I can see 20 million from here.
@Cloud-Strife You mean Generation 8? Sun and Moon were generation 7.
Wait, guys. There’s something i don’t understand. Why are you all saying that the Switch may or may not reach its 20 million goal?
Nintendo states that they’ve already sold that many and even more.
https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/finance/hard_soft/
Or maybe i’m wrong! Can someone please help?
Pokemon Let's Go: Togepi coming 2020
Just imagine when Pokémon gen 8 launches. Holy crap...
@Arcamenel Yup sorry, I'm literally playing Final Fantasy 9 again and the number stuck In my brain.
@Arcamenel Thanks for the heads up.
After all that backlash..........facepalm. Welp the number of casuals in this world exceeds gamers....
Nintendo used Pay Day! It was super effective!
@Mogster What do you mean pathetic UK sales? Are you serious? They were absolutely massive for UK's market habbits that are notoriously behind other bigger European markets. Next thing you will want to convince us that the sky is pink with green dots.
Is it a mainline Pokemon title or a spin off? I think this debate hurt the sales a little. The number are not that impressive for a mainline Pokemon game. Even ultrasun/ultramoon sold more (not sure in how many days). But lets not forget that Nintendo Switch cost like 2 3ds.
And the game is more expensive than mobile titles.
@Yosheel: And then there are those of us who own either Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon and still haven't properly played our copy....
@Anti-Matter: Welcome back dude!
Baby's first Pokemon is a slap in the face to fans. It'll fail. Nobody will buy a switch for this casual garbage. Nintendo needs a powerful console to compete. They blew it again.
If you played from beginning to end easy to overkill challenge then you can do a decent review but not just a biased review about the gameplay and game feel that would be more conclusive to help others decide. But once you do it for Biased Trolling purpose or because you hate it from the onset that already disqualifies any reviews you make. Doesn't matter what consoles but the reviewer needs to come with open mind and not have any preconceived notions other the the developers wanting a honest feedback. Games will be bad there is no 100% game.
Haha. Go Nintendo! The Switch is dominating! Also...SUPER stoked for when RPG Maker releases here in Feb.
@Evilworm
If it upsets people who get snobby about ‘casuals’ even better....
@frogopus I remember you saying the other week you were looking forward to playing it with your daughter, glad to hear she's loving it.
@Evilworm There's always been more so-called casuals than so-called gamers. They're the main source of income for all these consoles and it'd be stupid for companies to ignore them.
@illmatic20xx Remember these are only japan sales numbers not worldwide
@NEStalgia you forgot your emoji fu. Your inbox is going to get lit up!
Good! This is gonna help Nintendo and it's getting new fans into Pokemon.
@Syrek24
You know you live a pathetic existence when all you do is bash a game you probably will never play simply because it doesn’t align itself with your gaming needs
The actual sad part is that it likely would satisfy their gaming needs, if they'd deflate their chest enough to actually give it a shot. The consensus across the internet from fans is that despite being skeptical, the game is actually really good.
The sad part is, they only think it won't satisfy their needs due to a lie agreed upon. As long as a group of people are patting them on the back and giving internet cred for not buying the game like it's some kind of badge of honor, they'll stick their heads in the sand and go along with it. What's truly sad, is if they prioritized video games above ego they'd realize they were wrong to judge this game so harshly, they'd try it and realize... it's actually pretty dang good.
And this isnt even the "real" Pokemon game...wow.
Can't wait to see what Smash does
@Ryu_Niiyama the absence of emoji-fu wasn't accidental. @wiltonroots and @readerragfish are a bad influence on me.
It's technically trolling, but it's a good kind of obvious trolling.... Only one victim was snagged so far, right @frogopus ?
@NEStalgia Why thanks....sometimes I deliberately post the faux sarcastic outrage for my own entertainment, and then sometimes someone else will post something along the same lines but actually be deadly serious...maybe somewhere down the line Game Freak will make a Pokemon "Pro" for the Very Serious Gamers™, with a bit more grit, rock hard and absolutely no joy to be found, but then again they might only sell about 12,000 copies worldwide, so maybe that might not happen.
I told ya so!
Seriously. This game is perfection for children. And it's gonna keep selling like hotcakes. It sold 661k in Japan alone in the first week. Surprising absolutely no one who is familiar with Nintendo and Pokemon.
@westman98 Do you think the lower sales are partly because of hardware shortages and fewer Pokemon fans already owning a Switch? I see the Switch is selling for higher than suggested retail on Amazon Japan and the Pokemon bundle is going for 48000, which is quite a bit above the suggested retail price.
We all live in a Pokémon world. 😀
@roboshort
There are a few plausible reasons for the low numbers (relative to other Pokemon launches and/or relative to its launch sales in the west):
> High average-selling price, especially for the Pokeball SKU
> Low Switch install base (The GB/GBA/DS/3DS all sold 10+ million units in Japan prior to their first Pokemon entries)
> Gen 1 nostalgia isn't as strong in Japan as it is in the west
> The appeal of playing Pokemon in HD isn't as strong in Japan as it is in the west
This is pretty funny considering all of the negativity and backlash from the "hardcore gamer" crowd on review sites.
Guess this proves how nobody really cares about what those people think in 2018.
@WiltonRoots Pokemon pro.... That would be popular with basement err... Internet players. Maybe if your Pokemon die they're gone forever, and then there's special battles where your trainer fights directly. He can possess guns and balls, but the battle type determines which to use. And it'll be always online shared world mmo with PvP because, of course. It'll have "no items, hardcore" character options for the competitive scene. Graphics can show deformed monstrosity Pokemon on MH like realism. It'll be everything the hardcore Pokemon fan wants!
or they can just play SMT.....
Hmm, doesn't Pokemon always do well in Japan?
You know, every time I see these sales charts I can't help but feel sorry for Xbox... such a powerful console still trailing behind Nintendo's 2DS in sales lol
@illmatic20xx Lackluster for Switch? Most definitely not. Lackluster for NINTENDO? Yes. That sounds about right. Not much first party movement in 2018, but third party releases have been downright AMAZING.
So far 2018 has been the year of third parties, and it's crazy how many we've gotten on Switch during this year.
This worries me. If it's too successful, we can say goodbye to enjoyable entries.
@electrolite77 not really. Selling about 116k for a Pokemon game is pretty bad if you ask me and pales in comparison to Sun/Moon numbers.
Quoted from Eurogamer - “Eevee and Pikachu sales were down slightly (around five per cent) on Pokémon X and Y, the 3DS games released about the same time into that console's lifecycle. (They were down a lot more, around 60 per cent, on Sun and Moon - released when 3DS had a far larger install base.)
This may not be a huge cause for concern at Nintendo. Pikachu and Eevee are remakes, which never sell as well, designed for a younger audience which traditionally buys games over a far longer timeframe, instead of just at launch. And, of course, digital sales are on the rise - so will likely be much higher for Pikachu and Eevee. UK numbers company Chart-Track does not count these.“
Let’s Go would have beaten Spyro and Fallout to Number 1 if both versions sales were combined. Considering it isn’t a traditional Pokemon game, that’s amazing.
I’ve been enjoying Let’s Go Pikachu! The past few days myself. I absolutely recommend giving it a try!
A new pokemon game releases on Switch in Japan and it does well in the dead month of November?! What. A. Shocker.
