They ban you from all online services, they do not "brick" your console.
When a console is bricked it no longer even posts and needs to be factory reset and they do not have the legal right to do that because that's destroying your property.
@MrDocena The switch 2 is nowhere near comparable to a high-end PC let's get that straight out of the gate.
My $1200CAD Laptop from 2024 for example has 13 teraflops of compute, the switch only has 1.7 in handheld and about 3.1 in docked mode. It heavily leverages AI to do what it does.
@TanukiSan7x considering there were games that had basically completely destructible buildings and maps in the 360 era, I don't think it's much of a leap to be able to do that on the switch.
@HistoricKombat they're going to have no choice when they noticed the vast majority of people can't fork over a 1k for Next generation.
There will be an initial sales spike like there is every generation with the diehards that have more money than brains and then it will taper off very quickly.
Such a great idea to kill off physical media by lying to us for two console Generations saying that the cost of games is going to go down because they're not doing physical anymore and now they just charge whatever the ***** they want.
Honestly if the price increase on the game is covering future DLC it's not as bad especially if they keep updating it for the life of the system. If they're asking for paid DLC on top of this then it's a no-go for me.
Well, if the system wasn't outlandishly priced then I would consider getting one. But $724 CAD after taxes for the system is wild.
Nintendo could have made three models of switch, hybrid, handheld, tv console, but once again they whiffed this.
Dropping that screen and Battery would reduce the price at least $250. Most of us people who want to play these games don't give two shites whether it's portable or not.
So everybody knows there is 100% Going to Be an increase to both levels of subscription. There is no way they will not take the opportunity to increase the cost of online.
People can say I'm cynical or whatever but everything's pointing to all things going up so that's that.
I mean the 8bitdo ultimate bluetooth controller already has more than enough buttons to match with the switch 2 has, and it has hall effect sticks and hall effect analog triggers which this will not have.
Just save your money and go with a superior product like 8bitdo.
I mean clearly all of the consoles are going to eventually adopt the hybrid style as Nintendo has. Apus are getting so powerful that you're not even going to need dedicated video cards 5-10 years from now. What the highest end video cards do now will be able to do that in the size of a smartphone in 10 years and there's not going to be any real benefit to having a dedicated video card when it comes to gaming because of all of the AI models we have now as well.
I will continue to enjoy all of those games on dolphin, there's not really any reason to want to play them via Nintendo's rental service. People can say it's piracy or whatever but come on, these games are like 20 plus years old get over yourselves.
Just grab the roms, people need to stop feeling bad for these huge corporations that will make more money than you ever will hope to in your lifetime. These old games are not benefiting anyone.
I can tell you one thing, most games are probably going to run at Native 720p on Switch 2 that are demanding and will be upscaled beyond that via AI tech.
Already have it on my Steam Deck, MiSTer fpga, laptop, etc.
If they want people to buy stuff like this they damn well better bring the prices down a lot more, people are just going to continue to do what they are now which is essentially emulating the entire Library.
Hopefully the console is not more than 449.99 CAD or it's going to fail hard here. I have a feeling Nintendo's going to take a hit on console sales in some regions.
@PikaPhantom The turnaround time between the 1st and 2nd Mario Maker was 4 years, we are now at the 6th year mark. I would be shocked if it's not a launch title as it is the perfect candidate for mouse style controls.
@rex_rex I can pretty much guarantee it's in development, and something like mouse support being included is definitely a big hint towards the third game.
I can pretty much guarantee that Super Mario Maker 3 is going to be a launch title or very close to Launch. Super Mario Maker 2 has been out for more than 6 years and it does not get any updates which means they have been working on the next one ever since the final patch of the second game.
@ObsidianEleven frame rate boosts aren't going to happen to older games without patches, they could be embedded into the firmware though which would make more sense if Nintendo was looking to unlock frame rates for some of its first party stuff.

Re: Nintendo Reiterates Plan To Continue Bringing Out "New Titles" For Switch
The new Donkey Kong does not look like it warranted a new platform for it, I bet you it would run 30 locked on the OG switch with a bit of optimizing.

Re: Switch 2's Dock Isn't Compatible With The Original Switch, According To Nintendo
They should be selling a dockless SKU that just comes with the system and nothing else.
Re: Analyst Predicts Record-Breaking Launch Numbers For Switch 2
It's going to steeply fall off after a few months just like the Wii U did. Nobody I know can afford it lol.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 US Pre-Orders Start 24th April, System & Launch Game Pricing Unchanged
It would definitely be nice if they had a version of the system that was just the system with none of the other added things.
Re: MicroSD Express Cards Are Selling Out Thanks To Switch 2 Fever
@cedarhyped It won't do well in this economy.
Re: MicroSD Express Cards Are Selling Out Thanks To Switch 2 Fever
@Friendly my guess is they will still sell about 5 to 10 million units and then it will taper off quickly until the 1st price drop.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Dives Into GameCube Emulation For The Switch 2
I will stick with Dolphin. Many of these games are 20+ years old and that makes them fair game for emulation imho.
Re: Talking Point: Does Switch 2 Have Nintendo's Best Launch Line-Up Ever?
I can guarantee from a money-making standpoint it's going to be their worst launch ever.

@Leu10antFalcon It is still old tech and is supported by almost every nvidia chipset of the last decade.

Still old tech in there. Even low end modern GPU's are like 10+ tflops of compute.

I got my steam deck as a gift for looking after my brother's web company for a work week.

Also as others have said they both fill different niches so they are not 1 to 1.
