Well, if the system wasn't outlandishly priced then I would consider getting one. But $724 CAD after taxes for the system is wild.
Nintendo could have made three models of switch, hybrid, handheld, tv console, but once again they whiffed this.
Dropping that screen and Battery would reduce the price at least $250. Most of us people who want to play these games don't give two shites whether it's portable or not.
So everybody knows there is 100% Going to Be an increase to both levels of subscription. There is no way they will not take the opportunity to increase the cost of online.
People can say I'm cynical or whatever but everything's pointing to all things going up so that's that.
I mean the 8bitdo ultimate bluetooth controller already has more than enough buttons to match with the switch 2 has, and it has hall effect sticks and hall effect analog triggers which this will not have.
Just save your money and go with a superior product like 8bitdo.
I mean clearly all of the consoles are going to eventually adopt the hybrid style as Nintendo has. Apus are getting so powerful that you're not even going to need dedicated video cards 5-10 years from now. What the highest end video cards do now will be able to do that in the size of a smartphone in 10 years and there's not going to be any real benefit to having a dedicated video card when it comes to gaming because of all of the AI models we have now as well.
I will continue to enjoy all of those games on dolphin, there's not really any reason to want to play them via Nintendo's rental service. People can say it's piracy or whatever but come on, these games are like 20 plus years old get over yourselves.
Just grab the roms, people need to stop feeling bad for these huge corporations that will make more money than you ever will hope to in your lifetime. These old games are not benefiting anyone.
I can tell you one thing, most games are probably going to run at Native 720p on Switch 2 that are demanding and will be upscaled beyond that via AI tech.
Already have it on my Steam Deck, MiSTer fpga, laptop, etc.
If they want people to buy stuff like this they damn well better bring the prices down a lot more, people are just going to continue to do what they are now which is essentially emulating the entire Library.
Hopefully the console is not more than 449.99 CAD or it's going to fail hard here. I have a feeling Nintendo's going to take a hit on console sales in some regions.
@PikaPhantom The turnaround time between the 1st and 2nd Mario Maker was 4 years, we are now at the 6th year mark. I would be shocked if it's not a launch title as it is the perfect candidate for mouse style controls.
@rex_rex I can pretty much guarantee it's in development, and something like mouse support being included is definitely a big hint towards the third game.
I can pretty much guarantee that Super Mario Maker 3 is going to be a launch title or very close to Launch. Super Mario Maker 2 has been out for more than 6 years and it does not get any updates which means they have been working on the next one ever since the final patch of the second game.
@ObsidianEleven frame rate boosts aren't going to happen to older games without patches, they could be embedded into the firmware though which would make more sense if Nintendo was looking to unlock frame rates for some of its first party stuff.
I will keep saying it, if you abandon a hardware platform and you no longer make it available to purchase or the games on that platform everything on that platform is fair game.
Obviously support current systems and platforms whether it be subscription services that give you access to old stuff if you still like that and don't like messing with emulation, but these 20 plus year old systems in many cases shouldn't have any roadblocks in the way for their content.
When you create a shortage on physical copies people will stop going that route. I would prefer all my games to be physical still if they could be but I'm being forced into an all digital world with no protection for the consumer.
@MrCarlos46 Q1 2025 includes June. We would be silly to think that they're not going to unveil before the end of q1, they need a strong q1 for the investors. I do not know a single person who feels that they need to advertise because everybody knows it's coming out.
Jan/Feb they will announce the Switch 2 and it will release in Q1 2025. Pretty obvious at this point that they want to hit those holiday sales before they show the new system.
I mean the clear solution is have a special gun called the "Pal Gun" that transforms Pals into large bullets that you shoot from it. Pretty simple solution and fits with the game more.
Honestly, US gamers can't complain too much if game hardware is effected. In Canada gaming has become very expensive due to multiple factors. A new AAA title on the east coast is $102 taxes in which is absurd.
I think Nintendo could get away with with creating a peripheral that attaches around the "switch 2" that adds another screen. This would allow them to do DS, 3DS and Wii U.
@DollyrotsFan1 My hope is that if they go down the let's go route they give players the option between that and classic play style. If they had done that in let's go it would have made it more appealing to a lot of people.

Re: Digital Foundry Says Switch 2 Running Switch Games At 4K Is "Quite The Thing" In Performance Breakdown
@Leu10antFalcon It is still old tech and is supported by almost every nvidia chipset of the last decade.

Mid-tier and that includes the upscaling so more like low tier?

Still old tech in there. Even low end modern GPU's are like 10+ tflops of compute.
Re: The Switch 2 Will Emulate Switch Games, Because It Shares No Internal Hardware With Its Predecessor
Considering you can emulate the first switch on most smartphones of the last three to four years, it makes sense for them to go the emulation route.

@Axecon Good, the industry needs to fully die for a bit.

With taxes it is 724 CAD for the base system, 114 CAD for the games.

Re: Nintendo's Switch 2 Announcement Reportedly Impacted Steam Deck Sales
I got my steam deck as a gift for looking after my brother's web company for a work week.
While I love the steam deck, if the switch 2 had been out at the time I would have just gotten one of those.
Also as others have said they both fill different niches so they are not 1 to 1.

@rjejr because of handheld mode existing it'll never be a 100% requirement, the touch screen would replace the mouse controls in handheld.

@Lord I mean there's literally no confusion, it's called "Switch 2". It's like saying the PlayStation 4 is the same thing as the PlayStation 5.
