Re: 13 Switch Emulators Hit By Latest Wave Of Nintendo Takedowns

@jsty3105 at first I was kind of sad but the honest truth is we're building something that's an art form at the end of the day and it's meant to be experienced, and just because somebody can't afford it I don't think that should necessarily stop them from experiencing it. Everybody has their own unique life and priorities and what have you so I can imagine somebodies situation where they wouldn't be able to afford it but still want to play it and I can't impose DRM in my game because at the end of the day when it comes to preservation it just doesn't sit right with me.

@ShadLink I didn't say anything about it being right, you just can't hold digital content to the same standards as physical objects. They should never be compared because it's impossible to compare them equally. When it comes to games that keep getting re-releases that's a whole other can of worms, I think digital games should come with universal game keys so within a certain period of time if a game is re-released you just get it because you paid for the previous versions. At the very least if that became mandatory you would see a lot less releases and some actual innovation.

@ShadLink you're picking very specific outliers to prove what exactly? I'm also developing a game and I had to accept that a percentage of people will steal my game. It's something you absolutely have to accept as a game developer/designer. We don't consider that lost sales because those people were very likely never going to buy the game in the first place.

@MrDocena They come out looking like the good guy even though they created the situation with the way it is now and then releasing their full games on there. I'm imagining in two to three years we'll see only key card games. Doug Bowser even said they plan on doing physical in the immediate future which is very specific wording. A lot of these other Publishers don't want you to own your games so having a lifespan on them is what they want and that's how the key cards are going to really work. If that publisher decides they don't want people to have access to that game 10 years from now they can do that just fine and there's nothing you can do.
