Re: On Nintendo Switch Power, WSJ Tech Writer Pitches in With Alternative Details

Jayvir

@hepgius GFAQs is probably the worst place when it comes to the power wars, IMO. I know GAF is bad too.

It's baffling how people think TeraFLOPS and clock speed are the end all. It's just another piece of the puzzle that people don't truly understand. Yeah, having higher TeraFLOPS is always useful but it's pointless to know on their own. Same with Clock Speeds. The 360 had a higher clock speed than the PS4 (IIRC) but the PS4 is leagues ahead of the 360. Besides, we've seen proof already, no? Zelda already runs way better on Switch, which proves its more capable than Wii U by a decent margin. Dark Souls 3, Dragon Quest 11 and Skyrim all run well on Switch. Why people worry about tech they don't understand when the games show that it is capable is beyond me.

Re: Nintendo's Share Value Plummets Despite Super Mario Run Downloads and Revenue Performance

Jayvir

Of course mobile users would whine about paying for stuff. It's the nature of the market and part of the reason why I don't think Nintendo will do as well in mobile as they thought. Yeah, the initial reaction of "OH, Mario is on mobile!" will fade real soon and then what will they have? The average uninformed consumer isn't aware of Animal Crossing or Fire Emblem. Those franchises are gonna get buried. Plus with them avoiding the F2P or microtransactions, you'll constantly see those negative reviews. Geez, even if it was loaded with microtransactions, you'd probably still see just as many equally bad reviews.

Re: Video: Check Out How Etika's 'Nintendo Switch' Was Produced

Jayvir

I can't believe anyone actually legitimately thought it was real. How would some tool of a youtuber get their hands on one anyway? There's no way that anyone outside of Nintendo or maybe a couple of select 3rd party developers would ever touch them.

He's only doing it for the attention, and you all you gave it in spades.

Re: Rumour: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Won't Be Ready by March

Jayvir

Emily has just as many instances of being wrong as she does being right, so I don't trust a damn thing she says. I remember several instances where she was flat out wrong. No Mother 3, despite what... 2 years of saying that its coming? Plus she was all over the place on Wii U rumors back when. Where is that Rockstar game and Soul Caliber 4?

Re: Limited Stock Brings Out the Inevitable NES Mini Scalpers

Jayvir

Kinda sucks, but it's because people are so desperate that it gives scalpers an avenue to do this stuff. I don't understand why people just can't wait until next month when the resupply comes around. I managed to get one today because I was in the right place at the right time to snag a spot in line, but I would not pay upwards to 3-5x the price. It's ludicrous to waste your money on that.

Re: Review: Fairune 2 (3DS eShop)

Jayvir

Part of me would rather just have one of the genuine Ys games. Those games put practically all of their copycats to shame. Plus Falcom's sound team is practically unrivaled.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Takes a Retrospective Look at Metroid Prime

Jayvir

I still have yet to beat Echoes, but I did finish both Prime and Corruption. Great games! I hope that I can eventually go back and play the Trilogy... assuming I ever have the free time.

However, I REALLY hate that DF encourages people to use emulation in this case. You should never encourage piracy, especially when the official game is still able to be purchased on an official platform. No, I don't need your explanations about "if you own the game, it's not illegal" and all that, because thats not the case. At least with PS2 emulation, you can play your physical disc. In fact I did just that for a while when my PS3 was busted and before I could get a PS2 to replace it. Dolphin is 100% emulated. Most people who use emulators aren't gonna be those kind citizens who own all of the games they are playing. That's just not how it works.

Re: Here Are Your New My Nintendo Rewards

Jayvir

Yuuuuup, once again I own all of the offerings. Even both Xenoblade discounts >_>

I still fail to see why they can't just offer a static reward like DDP did and give us the option to just get straight eshop credit. 1000 platinum coins could just be something small like 5 bucks. Give a comparable credit for gold coins as well. Hell, they could just decrease the discount costs a little bit to make them more appealing to pick up or give steeper discounts. 15% is not that intriguing (IMO at least).

Re: Nintendo Switch to Reportedly Include 4GB of RAM

Jayvir

It's amazing that whenever I see this rumor posted, people comment on it immediately saying something about how its not enough, and yet glossing over the fact that NL themselves mentioned. RAM is not as simple as people think and the type, as well as how easily accessed it is, can changed everything. 4gb could be just fine. It just depends on how its implemented. Just because "it's not 8gb" doesn't mean much at all.

On top of everything else, this is a handheld. You can't go expecting a handheld to be on par with the modern PC and console. It's completely unreasonable to think that a tablet can essentially be a fully functioning PS4.

Re: Monster Hunter Nintendo Direct Airing In Japan This Week

Jayvir

@Elanczewski Uhh... in a Nintendo Direct? Did you put any thought into this?

I expect MonHun 5 seeing as they said they were working on it at the same time as Cross/Generations. My only for is that it is for the Switch. I just pray they don't do a dual release on 3DS. This series is just one of a couple that could convince Japan to buy the console. If they release it on 3DS, then a lot of consumers will just shrug the Switch version off, just like they did with the Wii U version of MonHun3U. Yeah, I get that less people might ultimately buy it, but Nintendo needs to make the console lucrative, and this is one way to do it.

Re: Amazon Customers Have Their Say About Nintendo Switch

Jayvir

Amusing that something as low-key as the Switch is considered gimmicky while PS VR, Move, Kinect, Smart Glass (notice how many of those aren't really around anymore?) were not once called gimmicks, but "innovations". Double standard for Nintendo every, damn, day.

Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch May Divide Opinion, But It's Made a Splash

Jayvir

The demographic Nintendo has struggled with is the "millennials". 20s and 30s who lapsed from Nintendo in their teen years. Casting exclusively that age group was REALLY smart. A lot of press coverage I saw specifically called that out as a positive as it shows focus toward that group that they've neglected. It's not about kids and grandmas any more.

Re: Poll: Exceptional Graphics or 60fps, Which is More Important for the NX Generation?

Jayvir

I don't really get bothered by 30fps. Some games really benefit from 60fps like Smash, but nearly everything else is perfectly fine in 30fps. Even my favorite series, Tales of, has bounced between 30 and 60 and while it catches me off guard at first, you adapt and nothing else changes. Hell, even competitors hit sub 1080p and 30fps on a regular basis. It's not as big of a deal as people think it is. I'd rather them focus on maintaining 1080p and making the games expansive and beautiful.

Re: Review: Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits & Fleshy Souls (3DS)

Jayvir

I think the series is fine, but I think that it's still just too "Japanese" for the Western audience. Unlike Pokemon which draws inspiration from literally every culture, Yokai are strictly Japanese. It's no wonder Japan eats it up while everyone else just kinda shrugs at it.
