These are terrible. Shame, I had hope for the service originally
Looks like more expiring coins then...
that's terrible 😕 what the hell are they thinking
Horrible
Well no virtual console games to redeem...boxboy twice?
@samuelvictor I liked the demo back then, might have picked it up, if it had been available in NA.
Too bad this service continues to be pointless for the most part.
Jesus christ Nintendo - get rid of Mii's, they're embarrassing and look like something from a crappy 2005 PC game
Where do I spend gold coins. This makes pilot wings a missed opportunity
Remember when they stopped club nintendo and said the replacement wouldn't be crap? I got some good stuff from my club nintendo stars over the years. Wii points, a snes joypad for my wii, games for the VC, a badass zelda statue.
But this new my nintendo system is horrible and convoluted. Worse than what we had before.
I can't wait till my 3,000 Platinum Coins all expire. Best service ever.
It's always either a crap game for a decent price, or a decent game for a crap price.
It would probably be better if they allowed you to convert silver coins into gold coins (e.g. 1000 silver = 10 gold).
Get lost Nintendo. More crap. And I just remembered this morning that I had nearly 1,000 more coins expire last night.
Whilst i too am not at all satisfied with the My Nintendo Rewards Program. I encourage folks who do have some gold coins to get the discount on Pocket Card Jockey. I highly recommend it and is currently in my top 5 games of the year.
oh great, tx Nintendo for all the free... oh, nevermind... -_-
Typoman is looking at me now even more which is nice. Also recomment pocket card jockey as it's just wonderful. Takes a little to get used to it but once you got it, bam! I do agree though Nintendo need to have more games on offer. Either that or digital OSTs.
yuk yuk yuk
what gives big N you don't like your fans any more?
I have XC3D, but there's no option for Japanese dialogue, so maybe I'll double dip.
If Nintendo doesn't want to give physical rewards any more, like the very popular Club Nintendo soundtrack CDs, why doesn't it offer official downloads of game music?
It would be easy and cheap to arrange, and much more appreciated than these discounts.
Yay, unlocking discounts with coins, just like you do in Steam, PSstore and such.
Hahahahaha, no.
I just don't understand why Nintendo continues this program. The fact that they use their resources for such mediocrity is astounding.
If the whole rewards scheme would've been scrapped after the demise of Club Nintendo then we would've just heard grumbles initially... But now... Well, with this service it's an endless wave of disappointment. And with that comes more grumbling. Rightfully so, I might add.
And speaking of grumbles, Switch damn well better be region-free. For people like me who travel the world and live elsewhere from their home country, the 3DS is a sham. Whereas the DS was stellar.
My nintendo sucks.
It started to feel like a joke. But it really is a joke now
So we waited for more discounts....where are the full games Nintendo? Club Nintendo was doing a much better job with rewards. These rewards.....I'll just stop now
Why are these all just % discounts. There should be free games for gold coins. If I've already spent X amount on games to get the coins, why not give me something for free?
This is so bad!
"Here Are Your New My Nintendo Disappointments"
Games I already own digitally, or have physical copies of.
I miss Club Nintendo, I miss the Nintendo Network Premium Promotion.
Wow, I dont generally complain about free stuff, but i didnt realize our coins expire. I just had 530 silver coins go down the drain. And you guys in Europe really got the short end. This seems more like a sales scheme than real rewards.... I wonder if we can give feedback on the program. I miss writing reviews on club nintendo, it felt like you were earning your points
There are better discounts every week on the eshop with no points required. Why do they think these are even remotely 'rewards'?
I agree the freebies are'nt very good, i have gotten a few themes and thats about it. But Nintendo or any of the other companies dont have to give you or me anything at all.
Im not sure how PSPlus works now, but from what i can remember the free games where only free for as long as you paid the subscription. Also alot of Discounts where hidden behind the paywall to.
So Nintendo haven't given much away a few free VC games but they are yours to keep and all money off games are for everyone even if they are bad. Until a Nintendo subscription comes along maybe.
I feel stupid. I didn't know the coins expired. That's just... lovely. If the rewards keep being this lackluster, I guess I'll just lose all my coins.
Nothing but discounts to games we probably already own? What happened to at least a few VC games?
This is the month a ton of mine with expire by December and I can't use them. What a nice waste of time Miitomo was after all.
This is not my Nintendo.
Shoot me now.
If they're going to give you 20% off for 10 gold coins, couldn't they give you the game for 50 coins?
I've got 200 Gold Coins and there's nothing to spend them on.
My Platinum Coins are disappearing and there's nothing to spend them on.
If my coins just disappear I'll likely not bother with it anymore.
come on Nintendo read these comments and do something about it!
@Captain_Gonru I also noticed that kirby super star on my nintendo states a 30% yet the image shows 20%
Do Platinum coins expire or only Gold coins?
so i wrote to Nintendo, and everyone here should take 5 minutes and do the same... just go on their site, click on "support", then select "contact us", then select "corporate" then "MyNintendo" and "how hard it is to get rewards"... then just tell them what you have in mind... whatever you have in mind, but tell them, cuz apparently they have NO IDEAS what most ppl thinks and want from that program... 5 mins guys...
Sigh... No new games AND I already own all the discounted ones!
Useless.
MyNintendo is a dead service. Move along people. Nintendo doesn't have rewards anymore.
i might get the discount on xenoblade chronicles 3D. I don't have that game yet.
I own all of those.
But I was interested in the Korg - until I saw "Europe"
(cue charlie brown music while I shuffle away)
@Folkloner I agree! The humour is cheesy but definitely funny, racing is as easy or hard as you make it & has that 'one more try' feel. Just need to win Kings Gate to get all the cups!
Wow, nothing good, what a waste of time the "NEW AND IMPROVED" Club is now. Bring back Mario playing cards and crappy Christmas wrapping paper, anything solid please!
Discounts AREN'T rewards... if your local store offer you a "discount" on something, its an offer, not a reward... and they certainly not asking you for some "points" in exchange for that discount.... -_-
Nintendo are taking us for fools, that's the plain and simple truth... and its shameful and disgusting...
Never thought I'd say that My Nintendo is worse than Club Nintendo.
@Randomlight I wish I could be at your service but I already shot myself
@zip Both do, but at different rates. Platinum last 6 months, Gold a year. Not that you'll likely use either in that amount of time given the lack of quality in this system.
Points have begun expiring. Hard to care. My gosh are these bad.
why do rewards expire? I have been playing Picross e, and I was running out of puzzles, so I wanted to get the Picross e2 discount reward, but it was taken off before I could get to it. It was literally the only My Nintendo reward I had ever been interested in, and by the time I was ready to get it, it was removed. This service is the worst.
@Menchi187 Really? Dang it. I feel like I wasted all the time answering Miitomo questions.
How hard is it to at least offer us some old NES games for free? This feels like such a scam just offering us discounts to squeeze more money out of us. I already stopped buying new games till they offer a reward I care about because of the coin expiry, but I guess that's the only way a 30% discount will finally be tempting is if it's for a game I'm holding out on buying and actually want.
These rewards are terrible. Doscounts are not a reward, they're something that Ninty should just do sometimes, like Steam does. Where are the games?
Good god, what trash
I would rather use my points to make them charge me MORE for games.
Remember when Nintendo's rewards let you redeem for games instead of relatively low discounts? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Give me some licensed tat instead.
Here's a simple way to tell if the My Nintendo rewards will be bad:
Is it March 2017?
If yes: They probably should be good.
If no: Keep waiting.
@samuelvictor Very true, I just hope at the very least the NX will be region-free as far as the hardware goes. Babysteps ... (back to 2004!)
I don't even care about this crappy system. I don't care one bit. It's for digital items that I need to buy extra storage for. So any discount is lost because I need to eat more costs. This program is rubbish and I don't care. I'm disappointed in myself for reading about this and now commenting. Dammit.....
Might grab Typoman
omg horrible ... two months now and no free downloadable gams with gold points ?!
nintendo always that us like s$#@ ... even with all support we give no free games no good discounts
People are getting awfully vocal about a free rewards service. Even if "rewards" has to be put in air quotes pretty much with this service, it's better than absolutely nothing, even while "nothing" is practically what it is. Still, judging this service in its terms as one that's supposed to give incentive for purchases, they definitely could stand to have more full-game offers again like this program started with. Heck, even bring back the old ones at least.
Still, it's nice to see Xenoblade Chronicles and Earthbound on the list. Super good RPGs that not everyone are likely to have. I'll be getting the Wii version of Xenoblade since I've been playing it over and over on my N3DS and playing it on a proper TV console would be nice. Finally a discount I can get behind
i just wonder why they don't do like xbox gold or ps plus !? I will be glad to pay 50$ a year for 4-6 games free a month ... amazing discounts and solid online gaming support ... I'm happy with my ps plus and xbox live since years but club nintendo hmmm no
The sad thing is, I'm thinking about using the discount to get Earthbound, but I don't want to perpetuate the problem with My Nintendo by redeeming those coins for a discount (essentially telling Nintendo I'm a happy user of the service). Ugh.
Lame, I don't expect this service to last long if they keep giving us these crappy "rewards".
btw why earthbound is the only SNES game that cost 9.99$ while others SNES games cost 7.99$ .. with my club discount it will cost the same as the others SNES games ! lol ... really nintendo ? and the 30% discount will cost you 40 gold coin = 39.99$ game from the e shop ... rip off
and remember you need to buy all those VC games again for your NX next year like what you did with wii / wii u / 3ds
Truly sad rewards
I think people are overlooking the fact that My Nintendo was probably designed more with smartphone games and the Switch in mind, and it won't be fully fleshed out until they are released, with what we currently have just being more of a placeholder service.
It would be nice if they could give us some examples of what they'll be offering once the service if running properly, but as that would relate to currently unannounced games, then that would not be possible for them to do at present.
That said, even as a placeholder they could offer better stuff than this... or at least temporarily suspend the expiration of coins until the service gets started properly.
I'd definitely get the Typoman but sadly I'm here in NA. These rewards aren't very good. I wonder what the actually exchange rate is on these, and if it's less than the amount of coins expiring lol.
My October birthday month discount was better than this. I got 30% off paper jam. Very happy with that 😀
i miss club nintendo...
i'll take that box boy discount
@peeks there not free though are they your paying a monthly fee, and when you cancel in the case of PSplus you dont get to keep them.
They suck, no surprise.
Crap. Im glad I quit playing miitomo finally.
I get the feeling this program was only ever meant so that Nintendo could say, "Look, we may have gotten rid of Club Nintendo, but we still have a rewards program!" You know you're doing it wrong when you make Club Nintendo look good by comparison.
This is good for me. I couldn't decide to play Xenoblade on my Wii U, or 3ds. Now that I can get it for 13.99 I'll play it on the Wii U!
Sucks for you guys though
Earthbound and BOXBOY! are said twice in the article.
I'm normally one of those, "Gamers need to stop acting so entitled, it's a free service that only adds more to what you'd already be doing" kind of guys, but man, My Nintendo infuriates me to no end. I need to stop clicking on these articles, because reading the new My Nintendo Jokes makes me want to fly out to Redmond and punch someone right in the jaw.
I'm the world's biggest Nintendo apologist, but that really is a lousy lineup.
I know this was my thinking when I heard about the new Nintendo loyalty program: "Only reward me for my digital purchases and make the rewards that are available to me terrible discounts that barely impact the price of the software but use up a disproportionately large amount of gold coins. Those are all great ideas!"
And Nintendo continues its sad, slow slide into complete irrelevance.
Unimpressive, as always... but I might finally pick up Typoman with this.
I have 1500 platinum coins and 60 gold coins. I guess I'm just going to let them expire and stop trying to earn more because there's literally nothing I want to spend them on.
@Prizm i love miis. and they look way better than microsoft's avatars (that try way to hard to look realistic).
"Any discounts there that catch your eye? Let us know with a comment."
No.
I do have to admit, I loved the Zelda Picross. But there hasn't been anything worth my time since. Maybe I'll do the XBC3D discount (15% Is better than nothing, I suppose) since I'd been eyeing that before.
Still, disappointing that there still isn't anything exciting, like an actual game. I don't care about Miitomo items, and I don't really want discounts. But I guess Nintendo can do what it wants to kill its new program.
These are actually decent. I don't have Earthbound or Xenoblade Chronicles, both games I've been wanting to try out...tempting...
I'm tempted by xenoblade chronicles. And maybe boxboy
Why did you list BOXBOY! twice?
Cool! I'll pick up boxboy.
@EllenJMiller Me too. That was their best program so far. It was superior to both Club Nintendo and My Nintendo. I spent more money then I probably would have to take advantage of the program. The current program only leads me to unload Miitomo finally.
Ugh, just ugh.
Wow. So bad. If this is what considered a reward I don't really want to be rewarded.
Just pitiful.
@Aaron09 I'm glad someone's happy
It's a shame that Nintendo dropped rewards for physical purchases because I don't think they are particularly strong on digital purchases. Don't get me wrong, the eshop on the 3DS & WiiU are an improvement on before but for most other digital stores decent offers and sales lead the way, on the eshop you're lucky if the sale price matches the common retail for most full price games.
@EverythingAmiibo Exactly. Just another letdown from Nintendo...
More garbage discounts that suggest Nintendo is still out of touch with reality. Even if the "discounts" weren't basically fake, this isn't really how loyalty programs work? You give the customer a chance to either buy into a discount (by purchasing discount tiers with points) or take a selection free stuff. None of this "like $1 off at a $10 game; what a deal!" nonsense.
All of this leads me to believe that either the Switch has a major role to play here, or the shareholders just don't really care what Nintendo's up to anymore.
@ChuJelly This is exactly what I am thinking too almost. How can people get so worked up over a free rewards program. I mean everytime new rewards pop up it's always the same thing on this site. MyNintendo is Garbage!, Where's my free stuff?, this program sucks! etc etc. The self entitlement is just disgusting.
Also people there is a reason why it's mostly old games. The more recent games likely are not considered eligible for price cuts or discounts and honestly what else exactly do they have to offer considering Wii U is pretty much dead and 3DS doesn't really have much else in the near future besides Pokemon
Seeing this reminded me about the expiring (well expired) coins. Lost 85 miitomo coins and 510 Platinum coins (595 total). Can't feel too bummed since I still have 4000+ Pcoins left but still.
Well at least they have Xenoblade Chronicles as a discount since that's only game I don't have on the list but interested to play. Just wish the 3ds version had the 30% off instead.
@Damo not sure if you realized it yet but one of those NA BOXBOY! is suppose to be 20% Discount on HarmoKnight for 300 Platnium coins
Come on,Nintendo! Get your act together....
So when are they gonna start releasing new games for Club Nintendo to become valid, because at this rate it might not last longer than the Wii U's lifespan.
Everyone should write Nintendo and personally inform them of your displeasure with their rewards system.
@ultraraichu Fixed!
Unbelievable lack of understanding what customers want. Tally up another failure for Reggie.
I had to get all the themes to avoid coins expiring. Don't make me get miitomo clothes. Please.
Make a Metroid Picross or something.
What happened to the free game reward things Nintendo? Decided to phaze it out for some reason?
I may actually try out Xenoblade now. I'm thinking I'll most likely go with the Wii version. I have 200 gold coins and have been interested in trying either Xenoblade or X so I guess I'll go with Xenoblade then. I think the discounted price is around just under $20 CAD which isn't too bad.
No. Where are the free games?
Color me surprised that I wake up to see new discounts on MyNintendo. This is everything I could have ever asked for!!!
I love watching my coins expire because of incompetency. Someone let me know when something worthwhile actually appears.
This comment section.
Well, that was underwhelming. I can get discounts on all the games purchased to get coins in the first place. At least put in a half-baked effort by offering more things that are unique. Would it be that hard to offer something like Game & Watch Collection DS on the Wii U Virtual Console for Gold/Platinum coins?
Booooooring
Without reading any of the above comments, I'm sure this is what they'll be in a nutshell (from an unbiased point of view):
1. These rewards suck/My Nintendo sucks.
2. RIP Club Nintendo.
3. 2 people actually like one or more of the rewards.
I never thought I'd say this but...I long for the days of Urban Champion 3D being offered
Are people actually complaining about discounts? It's a free service that they do not have to do if they so wish it. They could easily say, "screw you entitled fanboys, you're not getting anything anymore with that disgusting attitude." Like, holy crap, the entitlement in this comment section is very telling of how messed up the thinking of gamers are in today's society. That they deserve free games and every game should be discounted heavily. Be grateful you're getting anything! Discounts for Xenoblade and Earthbound are awesome, especially for those who have yet to experience them, and I suspect that's still a large portion of the Nintendo fan base. But games are superb JRPG's, so I really fail to see the issue here.
In fact, all I see is a bunch of children acting out and whining cause they can't get free games and physical rewards. Oh boo boo, cry me a freaking river you deplorable, entitled babies. Life goes on. The fact that so many people are complaining about this just shows me how screwed up the mentality of gamers are these days, and society in general.
Life is not fair. Things are not always given to you as you would like them. That's just a part of life and something you need to realize. Some things are worth complaining about in order to bring about change. A free discount service that doesn't have to exist is not one of them. If there's nothing there for you, oh well, move on. I'm sure thousands of others will enjoy the discounts available.
I am so sick and tired of people whining about the most asinine crap. Grow up, you spoiled little brats and stop treating everything that doesn't appeal to you or goes your way as some affront to your very being. You disgrace yourself and those around you with your spoiled little princess act. It's disgusting! It's revolting! And it makes you all look like utter fools!
Be grateful you're even get anything. I swear, gamers are some of the most entitled little snobs I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Arrogant, self-righteous, ignorant and petty. It makes me sick and I feel ashamed as a fellow gamer when I see such a deplorable display of entitlement.
Already own Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, and that seems to be the only decent thing there for me.
I'm with the majority thinking on this one, I had a lot of hope for this service, but all it does is make me really miss the Club Nintendo days.
How can they get it so wrong!
Well, Pilotwings is about to expire soon. PLEASE replace them with not only better freebies but more VARIETY Nintendo?
@Lucina
I am sorry but when you have a company that provides a service, in which they go an cancel to then give us something of even lesser quality, you're going to get complaints. Like come on, aside from the platinum coins here, you need to pay in order to get the gold coins. Like with your dinner at a restaurant, if the quality of food progressively got worse, I am sure you'd complain too.
Back when it was Club Nintendo, people were getting tired of the quality of the rewards program going down the toilet and then they ended it with telling us that something bigger and better is coming. Well, they gave us My Nintendo which really is a worse service than what Club Nintendo was. Club Nintendo we at least got free games 9 or games at no extra cost) where as this, the rewards are for a percentage off of games. Sure, there are more free way to get coins however, you still need to play their stupid game to get them and/or take the time to go around to various things which you don't care for and and doesn't really have the rewards to warrant it.
To top it all off, these coins expire rather quickly. people already had enough problems with the 2 years on the Club Nintendo coins being two years and now they chopped that to a quarter of that time.
Overall, the quality of service has degraded to the point where people just don't care for it anymore. I myself have not even logged into My Nintendo since probably close to 6 months now because it is a waste of time. Club Nintendo at least had stuff that I may have wanted (Especially if I didn't buy all the games I wanted) where as this, it's not even worth taking the time to log into Miiverse or the website every week.
..wow, good until February?..gee thanks...
@Yorumi There are several problems with your comparison to Steam, GOG, and PSN. Two of which are digital distribution platforms, and one is basically an online service with a subscription program. MyNintendo is a free rewards program, not a digital store front big difference. Also alot of those services are not entirely free either. If you want additional features with PSN and Xbox Live or free games with PSN+ Or XBL Gold you have to pay up.
My Nintendo does not require any subscription. It is predominately free first and foremost. With any free rewards program you cannot expect the rewards to always be something you want. There is a clear difference between criticism and entitlement and this comments section says more of the latter to me.
@ikki5 There is likely a good reason why MyNintendo feels so mediocre at this moment. If you pay attention to their recent comments they talked about integrating MyNintendo with their future systems and services . That obviously won't be happening with Wii U and 3DS considering Wii U is pretty much dead at this point and 3DS is on it's way out soon. it will likely be happening with Switch onwards.
they have simply moved away from offering full games. that's a shame.
This truly is total ass.
These games are on discounts regularly anyway on a weekly rotation. What the hell do the coins offer that's not offered already on a weekly basis? Nothing!
By the way... Zack & Wiki is one of the better Wii games. You definitely won't be disappointed with that one.
@Lucina Yeah, that's not how the real world works, dear. Nintendo isn't entitled to our money, and it's obliged to keep its customers satisfied if it wants to continue existing as a profitable company. All this blathering about "entitlement" and being "grateful" to a corporation is pitiful.
This is scarier than anything I saw on Halloween
More Coupons? Why not just give games away for free? I mean, the people want better rewards? Well, there you go. Wait, wouldn't that be a reckless business strategy though?
Just give me the option to get a free game again, damn it. I'm sick of this discount crap.
I skipped on Mario 3 because I wanted it on 3DS, but I'm sure regretting that decision now.
They really need to just shut this down. It's so insulting I'd rather it not even exist.
@Yorumi Clearly you didn't read my whole comment. PSN is not just Sony's eShop, it's also their main online network that also offers a subscription based service. You can't compare a free rewards program to a full fledged online network/digital distribution platform.
You also seems to neglect the fact that Nintendo games tend to degrade in value much slower compared to most other games.
"If nintendo wants to keep charging a premium for below average service they're going to continue to lose customers. "
You do realize that Nintendo Network is mainly free right?
Also Steam doesn't really give out games for free except on a few occasions and even though it's free to sign up you still need the money to purchase said games. The same goes for PSN and XBL they are free to use but you still have to pay if you want more features. With PSN Plus and XBL Gold the games are not truly free either since you still have to pay the subscription fee.
Yes MyNintendo does seem underwhelming at the moment but it's getting tireseome seeing people throw a massive female dog fest every time an article like this comes around
I only open these articles now to have a bittersweet laugh. This one didn't disappoint.
Are they seriously rolling this mess onto Switch?
@YouSeemFRAZZLED Nice to see someone with some common sense for once. I mean it's a free rewards program hardly worth getting so worked up over if you ask me.
Take a good look at a blank sheet of paper. That's basically a good list of what Nintendo owes you.
@Mario_Fart Except it likely was intended more with Switch in mind
@dkxcalibur I think I got around £55 in eShop credit by the end of the program, having picked up my Wii U in late December 2013.
If they would have just used physical prizes this would have been HUGE!!! Oh well.
@Yorumi Again one is a digital distribution platform the other is a free rewards program big difference
@Yorumi When was I wasn't insulting people exactly?
@Wolfgabe I think part of the problem is that they call it a 'rewards' program but actually it's just discounts (much like a digital storefront would offer) and they're generally terrible. Calling them rewards (which sound like a thank you for being a good customer) just set people up for disappointment... hence the irritation. Also, the whole system is so convoluted and confusing that most casual consumers have no idea how to use it or what the whole point is (other than try and drive Miitomo use). They're shooting themselves in the foot every time they announce new 'rewards'.
Sure, they don't technically owe us anything but thanking loyal customers with rewards isn't a new concept and they need to compete for our spending money in the face of stiff competition. Wii U only proves they need to try harder, not less.
This program actually makes me want to avoid digital purchases...
@Yorumi Okay first off I wasn't exactly insulting people, I was mainly pointing how how ridiculous it is that these comments sections everytime articles like this come around are always the same old song and dance. There is a clear difference between constructive criticism and throwing a massive tantrum like a spoiled man child and the majority of these comments are not what I would call constructive at all
Yes MyNintendo does feel kinda lame at this moment but I am not complaining cause I knew it would probably be like this for a time considering Wii U is pretty much dead and 3DS will soon be on it's way out.
Also in post 114 I was not actually insulting anyone. I was just expressing my disgust at the rampant sense of self entitlement I am seeing.
@Wolfgabe Maybe if Nintendo would actually listen to the customers that actually are purchasing their products (to the point that the 'discounts' are worthless since they already own the games) there wouldn't be as much uproar. My Nintendo is useless to me as a Wii U owner since all but a single reward so far for Wii U has been for something I already own. That isn't very rewarding.
Club Nintendo at least made you feel special by offering something that couldn't be found elsewhere. Would it be that hard to offer something unique to the system? Give Wii U owners a chance to get Summer Carnival '92: Recca or The Mysterious Murasame Castle exclusively through My Nintendo. Or offer Game & Watch Collection 1 & 2. Create exclusive holiday themed remixes of games ala Christmas Nights into Dreams.
It isn't difficult, and as I said Nintendo is essentially insulting their most hardcore supporters with the current offering.
@Darknyht The problem is that MyNintendo was likely designed with Nintendo's future platforms and services in mind. That most likely means Switch in addition to mobile games. I do recall hearing a rumor a while back ago that Switch will offer an achievements like system where you can get coins for accomplishing in games tasks. Yes the majoirty of discounts are games that people already own but honestly what else can Nintendo offer at this point considering Wii U is pretty much dead and 3DS is likely on it's last legs.
They really need to bring back physical rewards. I can only hope the switch launch, switches that as well.
Already own everything. Jeez Nintendo. I wish there were actual numbers towards how much this helps sales, because it must be amazing.
My Nintendo was clearly designed for people on the outside, specifically who got in through Miitomo. Everything about it is to keep them playing Miitomo and coax them into buying existing games. Compare that with Club Nintendo, its "freebies" (though considering what it took to get anything it was hardly free) were extra little thank yous for dedication, past purchases mostly not applicable to your enjoyment. That was a system made for the fans.
@Yorumi Did I really hurt your feelings? I don't insult people I just find it silly that people can't seem to discuss a free rewards program without throwing a massive hissy fit. No people like me and Lucina don't run around insulting people we just don't think it's worth getting so worked up over something as simple as a free service.
As Rect Pola pointed out MyNintendo is mainly aimed more at those on the outside than dedicated fans as a way to draw in new players and coax them toward buying Nintendo games which is also what the purpose of games like Miitomo and Super Mario Run serve.
In regards to discounts there are two factors to consider. One is that newer games need to wait some time before the are eligible for a price cut and the other is that Nintendo games are known to degrade in value much slower compared to most other games. If they offered VC games people would likely just complain they already have those too.
I will be getting Earthbound on 3DS and maybe Kirby Super Star later.
So I also got a "30% happy birthday discount" coupon for a bunch of titles I already own or games I don't want. My birthday is in May, so... close enough, guys.
@Yorumi So you think I am fine with insults simply cause I don't necessarily agree with the majority opinion on this?
@Yorumi How am I being condescending? I just don't think it's worth getting so worked up over a free rewards program
@Yorumi Well when you look at some of these comments it shouldn't be hard to see why some people might think that. There is nothing wrong with being critical. But if you are going to be critical to Nintendo you could express your points in a more calm rational manner. Simply screaming "My Nintendo sucks! or
"I want free stuff" or "Get rid of this program"! doesn't really do a good job of making Nintendo take you seriously. Yes criticism is important but attitude can make a big difference. It doesn't help your arguments much if you present in a way that doesn't make people want to listen.
They'd really be better off offering these discounts on the eShop rather than as something we need to collect for. Discounts aren't a reward, as someone else said, but an offer. I appreciate that they're trying, but they're badly out of touch if they think this is what their most ardent fans would consider tempting.
Yuuuuup, once again I own all of the offerings. Even both Xenoblade discounts >_>
I still fail to see why they can't just offer a static reward like DDP did and give us the option to just get straight eshop credit. 1000 platinum coins could just be something small like 5 bucks. Give a comparable credit for gold coins as well. Hell, they could just decrease the discount costs a little bit to make them more appealing to pick up or give steeper discounts. 15% is not that intriguing (IMO at least).
boring, might consider boxboy but thats it
Yup my nintendo was invented to punish people who complained about club nintendo.
I'm not complaining as I'm getting cheaper games thanks to MyNintendo but I do think some of the discounts are a little on the small side. Especially given the fact the shop has a sale now every week.
It would be nice if my Nintendo offered stuff you can't get anywhere else, like being able to purchase music from games or something. All my points are going to waste, because there is nothing I want to spend them on.
Hey Nintendo, where is the Samus Theme for North America? How about the Kid Icarus Short Films that were made available to Japan? How about something to spend our "coins" on that DOESN'T require us spending additional money (honestly, this discount crap is getting to be the only thing available as a "reward")? Honestly, I was fine with the shift to FREE digital rewards versus physical but My Nintendo is getting to be more and more worthless as time goes on. It is coming off more as a scam to get people to buy more digital instead of "rewarding" loyal customers.
I pretty much have all these games already. At the very very least, more home menu themes and free games (like Zelda Picross) would be appreciated. I got Metroid Fusion for free when the service first started, so I had high hopes. Unfortunately now there are no offers like that at all.
Poop! This new My Nintendo incentive/ appreciation program is far worse than Club Nintendo ever was. Again it's Poop! I can't believe how some people used to complain about club Nintendo. Well they changed it and now it stinks. Club Nintendo put this new program to shame with its cool swag and free game offers. Now we get discounts on old games that have been discounted already and bought. **Sadface**
Golly, Nintendo! I sure do like getting $2.00 off an $8.00 eshop game! Wow, those themes sure are bland and generic, I really want to spend my coins on that!
If they at least offered decent themes, then I wouldn't be complaining. Getting a free theme download code for any theme you want would be cool. But instead we get a stock photo of Link, Mario, and Donkey Kong with a blank green, red, or yellow background. With SO MANY awesome themes, WHY on Earth would you create poopy ones just for My Nintendo?
I'm not expecting full free games, but maybe just Virtual Console titles? Think about it: they laready made money on them when they were first sold on the original console. There's a ROM out there for any of them, so it's not like it's exclusive content. Anyone who buys VC games (me) does so because they don't have the original console and want to support Nintendo by playing their games the legit way instead of the cheaper way on ROMs. There's literally no downside to offering VC games for platinum points. SO WHY DON'T THEY?
We don't want discounts for our points. That just means we have to spend our points (earned by spending money) to pay less money, towards a game which we still have to pay money to get! It's like something Mr. Krabs would have cooked up. "Buy Krabby Patties to earn Krusty Points, which earn you 10% off ONE Krabby Patty! It's a bargain!" No. It's a Nibelsnarfing scam. Club Nintendo had actual rewards. Not just physical stuff, but ACTUAL DOWNLOADABLE GAMES. Club Nintendo didn't take your points. All you had to do was prove you were alive at any point in a year by adding or subtracting points, and you kept them. I don't see how NIntendo could have possibly come up with the idea that making Club Nintendo objectively worse would go over well with fans. Awful, awful, awful.
Well, we're now in that situation there's not even a new game to download... :/
Also, it would be nice to propose the old Club Nintendo 3DS themes, shouldn't be such an effort to do that.
194 comments?? Seriously? I guess it's true that people love to complain- even me of course. Tons of platinum coins expiring at the end of the month. I guess they stopped offering decent platinum rewards because it is too easy to mine platinum coins using Miitomo- you don't even need real friends, just two devices (I'm sure one can even be an Android virtual machine on a PC). I stopped using it altogether several weeks ago.
Wait, so let me get this straight. You have to spend money on a ton of games to get coins, not all of them worth the same, just to be able to spend those coins on some crappy discounts?
Getting sick of these discounts... What ever happened to getting cheap little NES games for fifty coins apiece?
Yeah, the beef most people have with MyNintendo is more of
"Okay, why can't you just save the discounts for the newer releases and give out older virtual console games for points instead of discounting them in the first place?"
"Well, I already own this game in my previous console, so should i waste cash on a game i already purchased in the past for it's original/discounted price back in the day? Or should i use it on a game i don't own but gets more of my attention?"
"But these games are classics, it's totally worth the money."
"No it ain't. I'd rather get it for free with said points cuz' i own the dang game and i don't wanna waste that money buying it again, there's other games i'm more worried about getting! Like that new insert popular title here game!"
It's kinda like that, then again how should i know, i'm not an expert on these sorta things. I have to juggle hobbies around!
Have to wait until NS is out before i give my final verdict on my nintendo but so far, absolutely crap! Really miss club nintendo (playing cards, soundtrack cds, digital downloads etc....)
Bring back Club Nintendo
They enticed you. You signed up. They got your info. They probably sold it. Program was a success. All just a front for a data mine. No they dont seem to care about it much now a days for some reason. At least I got some stickers and a hat once from Club Nintendo.
I'd rather let my points expire than spend it on this poop.
I don't understand how the Switch is supposed to make My Nintendo better.
It's a shame discounts are a 'reward'.
On the PSN, they just do it. Sales and everything.
MORE JUNK!
pleaze nintendo im begging you to stop this. get rid of my nintendo. stop embarashing yourselves and treating us like idiots.
Would get Korg M01D if I didn't already own the physical Japanese DS version. Plus hasn't it been 50% on the eShop already a couple of times?
I have a particular issue with My Nintendo concerning the push towards digital that is aside from the comparison to other discount schemes being unfavourable to My Nintendo in terms of savings.
Mathematically, buying digital, especially in the EU, is simply more expensive than physical even when any My Nintendo rewards are applied. That's an odd take on what a reward is.
Some have even suggested that this is an anti-consumer policy intended to dupe customers into paying more for products with the illusion of a reward.
I don't know that I would go that far since I still have the choice to buy physical in many cases. I won't, however, be redeeming very many of the gold coins that I get for my digital only purchases. If it doesn't make financial sense, I will not take the bait.
I'll continue to buy physical and ignore the gold rewards.
Platinum is different and I am happy to collect those 100 points per week by signing into the required systems.
I'd also add the fact that rewards are now available in many more countries that previously didn't have Club Nintendo. In some areas digital is the only way, in which case, the rewards become real.
Overall, a very mixed picture and, for me personally, not particularly useful.
I just got to 2,000 Silver coins now I can...O well I guess I can watch 220 of them expire. How exciting.
So I''m pretty sure all my coins are going to expire at this point...
@Priceless_Spork Thank you for bringing that up. That's the real scam here- this isn't so much a rewards or even a discount platform, it's just a way to mass gather and sell "anonymous info" and purchasing habits. (Same with Pokémon Go.) The hard truths of how digital sales works on these new "free to play" mobile business platforms reveal an insidiousness that most do not comprehend...
Offering no "rewards" program at all would be more respectful of consumer rights than this.
I agree the new "My Nintendo" is a joke, but at least they finally discounted Earthbound on the 3DS. I have nothing else to use my gold coins on, so I took the plunge:)
I got XC for Wii U only because I've held off on buying it (not being able to locate my physical copy has aided me in my decision process). However, most of these rewards are very bad. What's worse is it was my birthday yesterday and I got an email from Nintendo saying I'd get a discount on select games. I won't lie that I quivered a bit reading the "select" part. And pretty much as I predicted, I owned literally all of the games they were going to give me as a discount for my birthday. Nintendo needs to get smarter with these rewards, loyalty programs are pointless if not implemented very well.
Nothing too interesting to get, but hey I can finally get Xenoblade since I was waiting to see if I can get it on sale. Good thing the discounts stay for a long while so I can grab it once I'm back from vacation.
This sucks.
I put off using my gold coins to get Pilotwings on my 3DS, as I already have it on my Wii U. So I was hoping for a similar deal to replace it. Now I have nothing to spend my gold coins on.
@Wolfgabe
The thing is, My Nintendo is a "sale" system for Nintendo where you need to spend time to get the sales or spend money to get the sales.
