Nintendo has just announced via its Japanese Twitter account that there will be a Monster Hunter Nintendo Direct this week.
The broadcast will take place on Thursday, October 27th, at 8PM Japanese standard time. There's no indication of what this Direct will cover at present, but it's worth noting that Nintendo has used the original Monster Hunter logo in the tweet.
Could that mean a remaster of the PS2 game that started the entire series, or is this going to be an entirely new game? Could this be for the recently-revealed Nintendo Switch? Perhaps we're getting ahead of ourselves and this will simply be more DLC content for Monster Hunter Generations or Monster Hunter Stories?
EDIT: A Google translation of the official site claims that the broadcast won't contain anything about Switch or smartphones, which would suggest this is 3DS or Wii U-related.

monster hunter nx!!! i mean switch. i still catch myself saying nx.
I sure hope that there is a new Monster Hunter game in the works for the Switch because it has been far too long since I have played one on the TV and with the hugely improved power in comparison to the 3DS the game will probably require a graphical overhaul, which is long overdue in my opinion. The recent games look great on 3DS of course but I am excited to see the the potential of an HD MH game!
@Tsurii My point about the logo is that if this were for Generations / Stories / any existing game, surely they'd use that logo instead?
I want Monster Hunter 5 to come exclusively to the Switch... but another game for 3DS wouldn't hurt at all. I'd welcome it, in fact.
Just please, whatever happens, localise some games for us Westerners.
It's going to be hard getting used to MH on one screen...
MONSTER HUNTER SWITCH ! MAKE IT HAPPENS !
Whatever it is please please please come to the West I'm still sad we haven't heard anything about Stories for the West. I would have thought they'd be straight on to localisations before the JP release at this point after the success of Gen and 4U.
@BensonUii lol
Thats a funny post.
Monster Hunter movie.
You heard it here first.
Monster Hunter for PS4
@Elanczewski There is no way for them to announce a ps4 monster hunter on a direct from nintendo.
@InfernoHamadi I know, I know
I thought that logo looked very Halloween, but then I remembered they probably don't have that in Japan.
@BensonUii Monster Hunter Stories on Wii U would be very nice as PS4 is getting World of FF. But as dead as Wii U is they might as well port it to Wii.
If this stays Japan only then it really doesn't matter. Reggie will be up in about 5 hours, lets see if NoA announce anything then.
Does the west have a date for any of the MHS amiibo yet? Or the tv series? The amine looks pretty good.
Though I suppose it being the MH logo and not MHS means it will be for MH.
@damien or its for the 3ds but you didnt entertain that. Just like your "oh no the Nintendo Switch wili be partially a portable machine even though its mainly a home console and it doesn't have touch screen but in our article picture we're just going to have DS and 3ds game in it" article. Maybe actually wait for full confirmation before you start to lead the conversation away from platforms and methods of gaming before you start taking a stance yourselves.
Oh... I thought it was a Weatern Direct that announced Stories' localization... 😔
Probably Monster Hunter Cross + to keep up with Capcom's tradition of making new versions of the same game.
....Welp, MH5 for 3DS it is then....T.T
At least a port of Generations for Wii U!
I'd love a new Monster Hunter game. I'm in no rush though since I'm still playing Generations, as well as very occasionally getting further in both 3U and 4U.
Monster hunter switch with HD graphics, voice chat is all I want!
Gosh I still haven't gotten to Generations xD
Eh the series is sorta burning me out. I don't think going back to play MHF and MHFU after 3U, and then 4U right after was a good choice.....
4 MH games in row and the burn out is real. I will get Generations next month, probably.
So I don't want another game in the series for now >.< Unless it's MHXG or something, then I am cool. Won't have to buy regular Generations
Awww... I thought it was a US Direct to announce Stories. I'm hoping it still gets announced somehow...
Monster hunter generations G/ultimate for switch confirmed!
If they seriously released that within the same month as the switch I would purchase day one without hesitation. It's why I bought new 3ds when 4u released.
If it goes to the switch I'll try monster hunter one more time to see if I can like it. Otherwise I'll pass and let the people that love the franchise keep doing that.
I doubt it's yet another rerelease of the original since Japan already got a port of MHG on Wii last gen.
I do hope it's another game though considering it'd be weird to announce an entire Direct for just DLC, but I really hope it's not another 3DS game. Nintendo fans can harp on and on about how it's not about the graphics, but this series has been stuck in the 6th generation of consoles, graphics-wise for over 10 years now. It's a bit unfair for a series with a huuuuuge potential for visual majesty to continue to be bogged down by tech that's over decade old.
So even if Nintendo says the direct won't be about Switch, please let it be a Switch game. And not a 3DS game that later gets ported to Switch as it'll still look like a PS2 game, just with an added splash of paint.
Not even just a quick "We're making a MH for Switch, more details next year" snippet? I'm sure the huge Japanese fanbase would go preorder a Switch after hearing that.
Bah, no Switch, screw it.
Ha if its a Switch port that's great but i wouldn't buy it. Got too much done already in 3ds version and any hunter knows this game is grindy. If they have it where i can port over save files or add some unique function then i might be game.
@Elanczewski Uhh... in a Nintendo Direct? Did you put any thought into this?
I expect MonHun 5 seeing as they said they were working on it at the same time as Cross/Generations. My only for is that it is for the Switch. I just pray they don't do a dual release on 3DS. This series is just one of a couple that could convince Japan to buy the console. If they release it on 3DS, then a lot of consumers will just shrug the Switch version off, just like they did with the Wii U version of MonHun3U. Yeah, I get that less people might ultimately buy it, but Nintendo needs to make the console lucrative, and this is one way to do it.
I did get excited thinking Switch. Sucks that's not going to be the case.
Oh well. Any new MH is great news
Most likely Generations G rank.
BUT MY BODY IS READY FOR MONSTER HUNTER SWITCH!
OMFG! There must be a special Switch SA in MH Switch!
Axe mode the dock, sword mode the tablet!
C'mon Monster Hunter Switch (although with the current success of MHGen, I don't think Capcom wants to kill off their latest MH game just yet... stranger things have happened of course)
@Tsurii My friend you took the words out of my mind! Even if this monster hunter is revealed to be for 3ds they can just as easily make a switch port for it once it is released! They did the exact same thing with Monster Hunter 3 ultimate on the 3ds, releasing that first and then making a hd version later! Im on the hype train for this direct everybody , all aboard!
