Re: Review: Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past (3DS)

Jayvir

I'm pretty excited but sadly I made the mistake of recently buying Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 and those are REALLY long games. So I need to finish those up before starting on yet another long RPG. I'll likely make the poor financial choice and buy it anyways. It seems like a lot of these games don't drop in price anyway.

Re: Poll: Share Your Thoughts on Super Mario Run and the Delays to Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem on Mobile

Jayvir

There really isn't anything unique from what I've seen so far. Rayman Fiesta Run or whatever it was called was basically this same thing. Every mobile game genre follows identical formats with very little that is unique aside from the shiny graphics. Even "core" titles with mobile entries like Kingdom Hearts Unchained X, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Final Fantasy Mobius, Tales of Link... They all do the exact same stuff, just with a different theme. Mobile still cannot deliver the same kind of content that standard gaming platforms do and Nintendo seems to be doing just the same. I really hope AC and FE do something different, but I doubt they will.

Mobile just is for a very specific kind of person, but it's just not for me, obviously. I just cannot imagine how someone can settle for this when there are much better options. Just looking at the Facebook comments for this announcement, it's baffling how many people are content with these games as opposed to just buying the platform. I get the feeling that Nintendo will never be able to sway these people to buy their devices because they have no desire to play the real deal.

Re: Wall Street Journal Reports That Nintendo NX Will Indeed Use Flash-Based Game Cards

Jayvir

I was gonna read the article to glean some info, because I know WSJ tends to do the whole prediction angle instead of actual information, but then I remembered as soon as I clicked that it's behind a sign in. Bah.

In any case, there are very few downsides to cartridges these days. In fact, it can be argued that in many instances, it outweighs discs by a large margin. I fully accept cartridge usage.

Re: Buddy Pokémon Confirmed by Niantic for Pokémon GO

Jayvir

Would have been nice to have at the start. Maybe my poor Bulbasaur would have been used :/

I don't play the game anymore mostly because there aren't enough things to do once you hit level 20. Gyms are just not worth the hassle. I was hoping they'd add in something more substantial, but hey, baby steps~!

Re: Poll: How Excited Are You About Pokémon Sun and Moon?

Jayvir

The removal of gyms and a different structure akin to the Orange Islands is something I've wanted for almost 15 years now. It's a huge appeal to me that we have an island challenge instead of the gym challenge slog. The Alolan forms are a close second.

Re: Rumour: Report Points to the Nintendo NX Potentially Monitoring Your Heart Rate

Jayvir

There are actually a lot of applications for this, as long as its not overly intrusive. Horror games are the prime candidate. If your heart rate starts to climb, your character's view could start to pulsate and alter. Eternal Darkness could have a field day with this. Even heavy action games could utilize this to some extent. As for other game genres, I struggle to see any real application other than fitness games.

Re: Feature: What Are Your Thoughts, So Far, on Pokémon GO?

Jayvir

I'm enjoying it, but running into a LOT of problems with getting candy. If you catch a rare Pokemon, you'll never power it up since you need to catch more of the same to do so. So basically, my Bulbasaur is sitting at 48 CP and I've never used it because even a Weedle can outdamage him. Besides that, I just hope they add in more team interaction. As it stands there isn't much reason to do things to help your team.

Re: Ubisoft Hails Nintendo As "One Of The Best Partners In The World"

Jayvir

Now granted that partnership was some sleight of hand with the pulling of exclusivity and unnecessary delays/bad ports, but they did still support the Wii U more than any other major 3rd Party. I think it's still even telling that they are the only major 3rd Party (if you don't include SE's slip up about the NX) who has already pledged some support for NX.

Re: New My Nintendo Rewards Are Now Available in North America

Jayvir

@JaxonH I actually have Sony Rewards and in less than a year, I've gotten close to 100 bucks in PSN credit. It's not like I spend a crapton of money on it either considering I only have a $500 spending limit. That's literally all Nintendo needs to do is revert back to the stuff the DDP did and always have an option to convert coins to eshop credit. They can even keep the stupid discounts if they want as long as the credit comes back

Re: Seven New Pokémon Revealed for Pokémon Sun and Moon

Jayvir

Bug/Fairy is an interesting combination. Curious if it was have an evolution or not. I also feel like I'm the only one that like Drampa when I looked on a lot of forums. Reminds me of Valoo. Then again, I liked Popplio right off the bat, so I'm quite fond of the goofy ones.

Re: Xbox Co-Creator Confirms That Microsoft Discussed a Partnership With Nintendo

Jayvir

Wait... people would have wanted Microsoft to help Nintendo? Never mind how buggy and messy each of their OS releases are. Never mind how they advocated to ban used games (and changed their mind at the last moment). Never mind their plans to force their camera to always record (and changed their mind at the last moment). Never mind how faulty their 360 hardware was. Microsoft is NOT known for quality. Literally the only positive side of their gaming platforms is Xbox Live. Nintendo was quite smart to avoid them.

Re: Editorial: Mighty No. 9 and High Profile Disappointments Don't Invalidate Crowdfunding

Jayvir

It seems like a lot of the problems here are technical problems. That falls on, not only Inafune, but the development team at Comcept as well. That should worry everyone who backed Bloodstained as well.

It's just part of the risk of Kickstarters. Some turn out duds and some end up great. Most of the Kickstarters I've backed over the past 5 years haven't even come out yet or not on the platforms they promised to support (Hat in Time, ANNE, Hyper Light Drifter, Soul Saga, C-Wars and Cyramore! I'm looking at you!)

Re: E3 2016: Check Out the Paper Mario: Color Splash E3 Trailer

Jayvir

It does look better than Sticker Star, but people still won't change their opinions on it. To be honest, its fate was sealed the moment people saw it. I've seen people make up literally every excuse as to why this looks bad.

The only downside to the game for me is that they are just relying on staple Mario characters. TTYD and Paper Mario were charming because of the cast of all-new and unique characters. The battle system looks ok though and even being able to summon allies is a neat take on the buddy system from the first two, and the game itself looks really sharp. It is just the characters (or lack of them) that bothers me.

Re: Reminder: Watch the Bethesda Press Conference With Our Buddies at Push Square

Jayvir

@darkswabber I know one person got banned and then continued to just make accounts also. Even reported this person on PSN and still get messages from additional accounts every so often. But two separate editors did nearly the same thing on some of the articles where all they did was just trash me for having a Shulk avatar. I'm just a big fan of all Xeno games, and if I had a Kos-Mos avatar, no one would have said anything. It's that kind of hypocrite behavior from their staff that I can't stand.

Re: Reminder: Watch the Bethesda Press Conference With Our Buddies at Push Square

Jayvir

I'd prefer to not go over to PushSquare if possible. I used to frequent but even the editors seem to have qualms with anyone who has even slight criticism for anything Sony and they encourage vitriol from the userbase. I think I mentioned I didn't like my Vita (I currently just own a PSTV instead) one time and I had absurd amounts of hate from editors and users alike. I even had people track me down on my PS devices to go on a rage fueled hate speech about how much of a fanboy I am for not endlessly praising the Vita and how pathetic I am for owning a 3DS too. The sad part is that even months later, I still get hate mail via various outlets. I will not be part of any community that does stuff like that.

Re: Yo-kai Watch Sold Less Than Half a Million Units in North America

Jayvir

I bought Yokai Watch, but the gameplay wasn't very engaging so I ended up getting bored. There just wasn't anything on the level of Pokemon to get me thinking about battles. Plus, it's just a lot more weird to play it was a 30 year old man. Yokai is very much about a childs life. Even though Yokai exists, you live a normal boys life. At least with Pokemon, you could functionally pretend your character was any age and it wouldn't change the game at all except for the first 10 minutes.
