Re: Official Zelda Movie Photos Give Us Our Best Look Yet At Link And Zelda

Grail_Quest

I hope the movie is more about Link going on an adventure to save the kingdom as the courageous hero of destiny, and less about Zelda butting in to save the bumbling male protagonist because of how tough, capable and modern she is. Ideally they would compliment each other in their skill sets, but the bulk of the story should follow the adventure of Link.

Hollywood does NOT have a good track record of adapting beloved IP's so I hope Nintendo will rein them in.

Re: 50 Best NES Games Of All Time

Grail_Quest

Faxanadu is better than at least:

Bionic Commando
R.C. Pro-Am 1 & 2
Life Force
Tecmo Super Bowl
Double Dragon 2
Ninja Gaiden
Chip 'n Dale
Duck Hunt
Star Tropics 1 & 2
Blaster Master
The Guardian Legend
Darkwing Duck
Mr. Gimmick
River City Ransom
Bubble Bobble
Tetris
Dr. Mario
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Super C

and deserves to be much higher up this list, despite most of those games being good, and a few being great.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Director Highlights The Speed Problem With Switch 2 Game Cards

Grail_Quest

I don't understand how any of the benefits he lists are inherent to the game key cards. It sounds like he's just advocating for digital in general (ie. Game stored on SSD allowing for faster load times.) Also, these problems wouldn't be remedied by a disc format either.

However, why not create a system where the entire game is stored on the chosen media format and is installed onto the SSD? That way it draws quickly from the SSD, but if it's ever deleted from the system, can be reinstalled whenever the player wishes without hoping servers are still available. PC games were like that for 30+ years. Doesn't seem that complicated.

Re: Why Remake 'Dragon Quest VII' Before The Zenithian Trilogy? Yuji Horii Comments

7 was an ugly game, even for it's time. The muddy graphics made it a chore to plow through it's 150+ hour length. It still retained that old school charm and heart of the franchise that always makes you feel like you've returned home after being away for too long, but that was the only element that would help in keeping the player going, and current day, I don't think that would have been enough. It is the single game in the franchise that most needed a remake. I'm really excited to take a crack at it again with a refreshed presentation.

Re: Sega Reignites Its Nintendo Rivalry In New Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Trailer

Grail_Quest

WOW!! I was always a faithful Nintendo soldier during the 16 bit console war, but that doesn't mean I didn't also love a lot of what Sega gave us. I was in love with the Sega CD. Lunar, Vay, Popful Mail, Monkey Island, Rise of the Dragon... ah! Despite venerating my N64, and adoring my PS1, something about the Saturn was intoxicating and called to me, and I was in line on 9.9.99 for my first step into a new universe of graphical power with the Dreamcast. At the end of the day, Nintendo will always be my first gaming love, but I respected what Sega produced. This ad is great. It takes us right back to brash, bold 1994. The epicenter of so much flowing gaming creativity and tech advancing in orders of magnitude. Welcome to the next level! Awesome!

Re: Gender Split & Average Ages Of Japanese Nintendo Players Revealed Via New Survey

Grail_Quest

Proudly a part of the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy generation! As a 40 something gamer, cool to see I haven't aged off of these charts just yet. It's weird shifting out of the core gamer target demographic though. Gotta pass the baton eventually I guess. The next gen will have to carry the flag now and will dictate trends and popularity of IP going forward. Us 80's and 90's kids had a great run though!

Re: Yooka-Laylee Dev Playtonic Is The Latest Studio Hit By Layoffs

Grail_Quest

When employees are "made redundant" it often means the employer has grown and acquired new teams where the same job functions may unnecessarily overlap. While it's sad for the team members who get laid off, it can actually signal the parent company is doing quite well, and in fact, expanding. This news does net necessarily mean anything dire for Playtonic at all.

Re: Gex Trilogy Lands June Release, Special Edition With Blow-Up Doll Revealed

Grail_Quest

The wait is almost over, at long last! The return of the 3DO mascot. They should have modeled the retro box after a 3DO longbox rather than a Playstation case though. PSX had Crash. Let 3DO have it's moment here.

The cover art by Amano is an incredible idea. The statue looks amazing!

I don't want to drop $200. I don't want to support LRG. But this is one of my top 5 video game requests (along with a big budget, current gen Gex 4), so... yeah, I'm getting the Tail Time edition!

The question is, for which system? I usually buy all my games for Switch, but I'd really love to have trophies for this one, plus I have PO'ed and Killing Time for Xbox already, so maybe Gex should join his 3DO brethren...?

Re: Opinion: A Few Too Many Questions & Unwelcome Surprises Are Taking The Shine Off The Switch 2 Reveal

Grail_Quest

Wait... Switch 2 is region locked? Does that mean all of the physical Switch 1 JRPG releases (non-U.S.) we've been accumulating via Play Asia over the past few years won't work on it? If that is the case, and the Switch 2 won't actually be able to replace the Switch in my entertainment center (due to 1/3 of my library not being compatible) I will most likely skip it.

Re: Opinion: Nightdive Studios Had Its Best, Most Prolific Year Yet In 2024

Grail_Quest

@TYRANACLES Thanks for mentioning the physical release of Killing Time coming up this Friday. If not for you, I might have missed it.

You guys and girls here in the Nintendo Life comment section have really done so much over the years to help me avoid missing out on stuff I otherwise would never have heard about and I just wanted to say thank you all!

In my opinion, this is the coolest bunch of Nintendo (and gaming in general) enthusiasts anywhere and you all really add something positive and special to my gaming experience. For those who celebrate, Merry Christmas, and to those who don't, have a wonderful day and awesome winter gaming season.

Re: Opinion: Nightdive Studios Had Its Best, Most Prolific Year Yet In 2024

Grail_Quest

As a true blue 3DO fan, I was amazed that both PO'ed and Killing Time were remastered by Nightdive. They were unexpected, treasured gifts that I snatched up immediately. I also picked up the physical version of PO'ed from Limited Run and hope that someone makes a physical edition of Killing Time soon.

Every second of reliving both of those games was sublime. I didn't grow bored or weary of playing at any point through either game. I hope Nightdive continues to include these types of lesser known titles in their upcoming catalogue. I'd love to see stuff like Escape from Monster Manor (3DO), Road Rash (3DO), Alien vs. Predator (Jaguar), Burning Rangers (Saturn), Wing Commander 3 (PC) and Normality (PC) get in the mix somehow.

Re: 'Hyperdimension Neptunia' & 'Death End' Switch Releases Scrapped For "Not Complying With Nintendo Guidelines"

Grail_Quest

@Samalik

Makes ya wonder how they are gonna go through with future Monolith and Fire Emblem games.... Block those too?

They won't block those franchises in the west, but they will likely begin to sterilize content from them that would be traditionally alluring. Fan service that focuses on female characters will not be tolerated. In order to avoid criticism of "censorship" that could impact sales in the west, they will begin focusing on controlling this type of content at the conceptual and design stages within Japan. They make more money selling to the global market than they do within Japan. They will allow western offices to dictate terms.

Re: 'Hyperdimension Neptunia' & 'Death End' Switch Releases Scrapped For "Not Complying With Nintendo Guidelines"

Grail_Quest

@HeadPirate @HeadPirate

It's important to understand because decisions like this are often due to the increasing right wing Christian nationalism in the US that says sex is bad (but graphic violence is fine) and not Nintendo trying to protect their "kid friendly" image globally. The Japanese Switch e-ship has extremely sexualized games, and many don't even contain the warning tags we see in the US ... because in Japan, that content is generally not seen as "dangerous" to children.

From someone inside the U.S. let me assure you, these changes are not being made to appease Christian conservatives. Conservatives, and especially Christian ones, haven't had that type of influence for over 20 years. There aren't enough of them anymore.

Corporate power in the U.S. rests very firmly in the hands of militant left-wing ideologues. Those who would cancel anyone or anything that doesn't align with their neo puritanical outlook on the world they hope to transform. One of their chief targets is anything that appeases the male appetite for female beauty. This is why you hear things like people complaining so vehemently about female characters in Marvel Rivals. There is no lewdness, or exposed flesh in that game. All the characters are fully clothed, but they are traditionally attractive. This is a threat to the groups I am speaking about. Those who would hijack and transform western culture according to their own image.

People often wonder why companies bow to the vocal demands and outrage of these zealots, but it is partially because, they have infiltrated the companies themselves, attained positions of authority and influence and only hire others who align with their socio-political views.

Re: Review: Little Big Adventure - Twinsen's Quest (Switch) - Charisma & Quirkiness Can't Quite Carry A Cult Classic

Grail_Quest

"Twinsen’s Quest mostly follows the story of the original game, adding on a little prologue and switching a couple of characters around to modernise the damsel-in-distress narrative of 1994."

Couldn't leave well enough alone. The game's either a classic or it's not. If it is such a classic that it merits a remake, it means people loved it as it was. No need to "modernise" the story. It sounds like longtime fans are upset about the removal of the mood system and tank controls as well. Sounds like they modernized too hard.

Shame. As a huge fan of the original Alone in the Dark trilogy, I've wanted to play Twinsen for the longest time, as this was the next game crafted by AITD director Frederick Raynal and composer Philippe Vachey. I was holding out for this remake, but I'll probably just go play the original on GoG.
