Re: Mario Tennis is Smashing Its Way to the Wii U Virtual Console This Week

GLA

You're kidding, this game is totally un-needed to the VC library. I have it, it's great, but if resources are tight for forging forward with more games, I just don't get why this would take priority over many, many others. We can buy the admittedly gimmicks overload Wii version to play on our Wii U, how pointless.

Re: Nintendo Seeks Improvement at E3 2016, Though Miyamoto Defends Near-Term Rather Than "Dream-Like Demonstrations"

GLA

Nothing wrong focusing near-term, but what should be high profile 3rd party games that are aimed at more mature gamers (Devil's Third, Fatale Frame) missing in maim presentation, and a lack of 3rd party and mature titles are routinely mentioned as major drawbacks, and then to leave off the Geo racing game, which looks visually sublime and is said to max out the Wii U (which is routinely critisized for its lack of power compared to M&S), despite all these titles being featured in the Treehouse features, it just seemed frustrating to instead project Mario Tennis, a badly introduced Metroid game that felt like a bonus game (thus squandering the impact such a prestigious association deserves), and also leave out Project Treasure, which was showcased weeks before but with little information. So Nintendo could have gone into depth with these titles and explained.the. more etc. But initially I was so wtf about it all because these titles that didn't even get a mention in the maim show had all been recently showcased, which gave the impession that Nintendo must have a lot more up their sleeve if they are this confident to leak so much before E3. And don't even get me started on Retro's trolling-tweet and no show. Of course, all the games I mentioned are still coming, but it was odd and irritating that Nintendo, to focus near term, didn't even showcase games that are worth boasting about.

Re: Talking Point: E3 Highlighted Nintendo's Development Shift Towards NX, and Away from Wii U

GLA

I've 92 U games, more Wii and about 20 vc, so I can say genuinely that I love its library and function as a hub for many landmark titles from their history. I agree with this article, I just hope the NX doesn't come out until 2018 alongside the other next gen installments, as this time will be plenty to perfect more games and have (hopefully) equal to better graphical power. I feel very uneasy about releasing any sooner.

Re: Animal Crossing amiibo Festival

GLA

Well, I think they've made the decision with certain franchises to try to appease the demand, but because the focus presumably is getting together a must-have launch line-up for the NX, compromises have had to be made. I don't really mind this, but my goodness did that E3 presentation being more bare bones than it needed to be make it easy to get wound up (Chibi-Robo, Project Treasure, Neo Racing, Devil's Third, Fatal Frame, upcoming eshop games, and a buy more save more eshop discount offer, all could have padded it out just fine and made it seem far less embarrassing to reduce your big announcements to board games and mini games). Even that upcoming release schedule missed out loads like Might No. 9, Rodea, Legend of Kay, Lego Marvel, so they're really not doing themselves any favours.

This game looms sweet. Given the amiibos and cards aspect, the game itself had better be cheap as the accessories are clearly going to be desirable to many out of sheer cuteness and novelty.

Re: Gallery: Here's A Closer Look At The Donkey Kong And Bowser Skylanders Superchargers amiibo Coming To Wii U And Wii

GLA

If the Wii version is drastically different, I'll be getting both. This seems like an encouraging step up for the franchise, some of water and flight footage looking truly compelling rather than just some nice but shallow gaming on offer. I don't doubt it will still be relatively easy, and primarily still aimed at younger audiences, but this looks by far the most fleshed out experience and I'm looking forward to it. Glad Nintendo are seeking out these customed versions, it's a good way to bridge the gap left by having so few 3rd party exclusives, and they should totally do more of it in the future, because in my opinion, just like that, they have made the Wii u version the must have version.

Re: Nintendo's E3 'Roadmap' Infographic Shows Off Upcoming Releases on Wii U and 3DS

GLA

I know it's not exclusive, but Yooka-Laylee could quite possibly be the Wii U's last hurrah. I would like to think Playtonic will be up for doing some Nintendo-only features, especially if Skylanders got the green light, and also when you consider the N64 version was part of the kick starter bidding options (I'm almost just as excited to see this version as I am of the actual Wii U version).

Re: Nintendo's E3 'Roadmap' Infographic Shows Off Upcoming Releases on Wii U and 3DS

GLA

Lego Jurassic World
Lego Marvel Avengers
Legend of Kay
Devil's Third
Mighty No. 9
Rodea the Sky Warrior
Fatal Frame
Oddworld
Art Academy
and numerous eshop games

All missing from this list. These could all have been celebrated, in isolation for the exclusives, and in a round up for the others. E3 just did not need to be as bare bones as it was keeps repeating same points until faints

Re: Iwata Vows To Listen To E3 2015 Digital Event Feedback And "Work To Better Meet Your Expectations"

GLA

Had they held onto what they let out just before E3, and kept it all for the main presentation, it wouldn't have seemed so bad. Instead, apart from Starfox, presenting a spin-off Animal Crossing board game and another Mario Tennis installment (despite the fact that it should have been simply another event in the Olympics game) was just plain embarrassing and there's really no other argument. The lack of a Retro game was also quite telling: to me it's obvious that whatever they might have had to show off has all been re-focused as 'NX' software (which is quite right). It's just really shocking that we got leaks of stuff before that made us think "well if we're being shown this now, what must they have for E3?" and then what they do have for Wii U, apart from Starfox and Mario Maker (which they really shouldn't hype up as a major title, it's an accessory/add-on item), was absolute drivel.

Re: Splatoon Successfully Inks Top 10 Territory in UK Charts

GLA

The reason I was given for the JP delay was "a manufacturing issue". Maybe if the UK is so dire for the Wii u, not having its version not make the top 10 whilst the others clog the top half is probably a blessing. With the sales leak it would have been so interesting to compare those week one sales for the big three, but then again the 3DS version is no. 18.

Re: Splatoon Successfully Inks Top 10 Territory in UK Charts

GLA

Yes, Nintendo should totally give up on Europe where it has sold at least 20% of its hardware and software sales. At least no one overreacts. Splatoon has not flopped here, it just hasn't had the same surge as Japan. I'll take a sleeper hit over a straight in and straight out release any day.

Re: Video: We Check Out The Squid amiibo Challenges

GLA

I opened and registered the squid amiibo, but haven't yet seen the unlocked challenges. For this reason, and the stick issues, I'm keeping the other two in their boxes until I see what I think of the bonus benefits (and if the value goes up, let's be honest, not that I'll part with anything Wii u related).

Re: Splatoon 1.2.0 Update Promises A More Pleasant Gaming Experience

GLA

I'd like the roller to get more abilities as I always do best when flat out swimming away from danger, jumping off to lower pathways etc. I like the rankings being mixed, so long as two at 19 or 20 in a batch of mostly 5-10s for example, those two far higher players should be in separate teams. I'm level 16 and am amazed that so many were so high a lot quicker. Thankfully at the moment those that just want to splat seem to be distracted by ranked battles. Needless to say, as a roller, I found this mode way too hard, but I'm still refining my approach with certain maps and thinking up ideas for next matches. It really is a splendid game and its not yet fully with us.

I've spent only a short time in adventure mode. I like that with, an initial at least, slower pace, there seems to be more detailed environments in places. And even only two missions in, its certainly not short in ideas and invention. I've only been going in here at times when I know the phone is going to cut off my internet, but its very welcome to have two very distinct sides to the coin here. 18 hours of gameplay so far, I've played nothing else since its release, definitely a classic already.

Re: Guide: Tips On How To Become A Squid Hotshot In Splatoon

GLA

@evanescent_hero yes, and whilst doing that you can look at your gamepad without much worry of being attacked, so can plot your squid-swim journey better. However, I don't know how to jump to the place your furthest away team mate is, so knowing that is next in the list along with the shield trick.

Re: More Club Nintendo Goodies Coming To The European Stars Catalogue

GLA

@Sakura I wouldn't mind surveys if I felt the results were actually going to tell Nintendo something. Hopefully everyone clicked on youtube anyway.

And eBay, I dread to think how high and silly the auctions will go. There's always the Nintendo land theme park gift shops that should have all this stuff hopefully.

Re: Video: Nintendo of America's Musical Splatoon Campaign Continues

GLA

For the particular demographic they are targeting, they are great. I still think they don't need to aim so low though - the kids appeal is obvious, so sticking to actual music with the footage does gets the job done fine, and could probably go out to more channels than just the Disney kind.

I'm not complaining though, it's great that an effort is being made here and based on my 1.5 hours playing it really deserves all the ads Nintendo cares to commission.

Re: Poll: Did The Splatoon Global Testfire Hit Its Targets?

GLA

I think the popularity of the option for more sessions kind of confirms the option above that it did the trick. I want more too, but if I hadn't already pre ordered I'd have been straight on it after as it already feels like it will be my 2nd favourite Wii u title.

Re: The New Update For Teslagrad is Now Live in North America

GLA

I held out for the physical. It was due in Europe in February, but kept getting pushed back a few weeks here and there, but eventually came out a few days ago and my copy is now due Tuesday. It looks stunning, it had better live up to my expectstions, I'm sure it will.

Re: Nintendo "Currently Investigating" The Idea Of A Region-Free NX

GLA

So long as games had English subtitles I actually think games like Fatal Frame might actually benefit from keeping the audio in Japanese. But rarely would I buy a game that would only read in Japanese. I hope they get rid of the locking, freeloader on my GameCube has been essential for me.
