It’s been quite some time since we last heard from developer Antonis "Pelikan13" Pelekanos about his hotly anticipated Kickstarter project, 90s Arcade Racer.
A love letter to SEGA’s cabinet racer line including the likes of Daytona USA, 90s Arcade Racer for the Wii U eShop and several other platforms will pay tribute to the arcade hits of yesteryear with classic mechanics, a colourful and vibrant look and a blend of unique but memorable tracks.
The new 60fps Wii U gameplay footage shows off the title’s slick menu layout, two tracks, spot-on drift mechanics and allows you to briefly experience the overall vibe of 90s Arcade Racer with pumping beats and overhead menu announcers.
For more information about the upcoming Wii U eShop title, take a look at our 2013 interview with the game’s developer. Let us know in the comments just how eager you are to experience 90s Arcade Racer on your Wii U.

Might check this out, I'm a big fan of this kind of game.
Woah, these tracks are beautiful and colorful!
I feel like I've been waiting forever for this game!
I'm getting this for sure.
I'll take something like this over Forza any day.
Day 1 for me
Wait, is this still coming out?
Been waiting for this for AGES ... looks great and expanded from the original announcement. Will wait to hear about the feel of the game ... but if it's all good I'll be day 1 if it arrives on the EU eShop.
Ooooh this looks good.
I was looking for an update on this only a few days ago. Looks great so far, really looking forward to it
looks nice
Doesn't have to have mind-boggling next-gen graphics to be a good racer. Just enough to make it aesthetically pleasing and stand out.
Will there be other cars to race against? It looks pretty but seems a bit empty with just one car.
Looks like a decent racer, may check it out sometimes.
RIP Forza, Grand Turismo
Cannot wait to play this labor of love! The graphics are almost too good looking for such a throwback!
Oh gosh, the colour, the design, my eyes can't take the beauty! Seriously, this game looks absolutely fantastic.
Anyway, I've never been interested in 90's arcade racers... notably because I've never really played them (does Road Rash count?), but just from design alone this game is catching my interest. I may see to checking it out, depending on it's price and what other games are trying to vie for my wallet at the time.
It does look superb, but I'm wondering how it'll hold up with more cars on the screen, and particularly with 2 players.
Woah, I forgot about this game!
In action, looks better than I thought. If the price is right I'll be getting this on Wii U.
GAME OVER YEAAAAAAAH!
Oh wow, it looks way better than before. Some nice ideas as well. Good job. I just hope the controls are comfortable.
I'm more excited for this than i am Project CARS
What's with the Pang lookalike at the end?
Looking really good! I think I'll be getting this.
This game is looking good. Love the old school feel.
@andyjlatham - during gameplay, there is a position indicator in the top right corner, so there will be multiple cars.
If the price is right I'll totally get this for WiiU. Any ideas on a release date yet?
Really cannot wait for this. Sega lives.
@Damo The real Sega lives in the hearts of us old school fans This is a serious masterpiece in the making. Sega need to wake up and throw some cash at this project so that they can stick their name in the opening sequence
OMG, this looks so awesome, a mix between Daytona USA, Ridge Racer and....Micro Machines !!!
I also hope there are 10+ opponents, because on this video, there are none
Can't wait for this game, I love arcade racers, it's been very very long time since this game was first revealed...
EDIT: And Pang at the end.... I just love Pang!!!
I love the look of the scalextric track, can't wait to play that.
Reminds me of those glorious days in 1997, when me and my brother used to spend loads of insane hours playing Cruisn' USA.
I hope it has online multiplayer.
@GTWarrior77 Ah I didn't spot the position indicator! That's encouraging
That looked great. I'm genuinely looking forward to that!
This looks nice!
This is a great looking game! Hopefully it is challenging enough to keep me interested!
I'm throwing money at the screen right now!
I'm throwing money at the screen right now!
Yes! The nostalgia!!
Oooh!! It looks nice! It's even better than if even Outrun itself became to Wii U!!!
And I love some of the tracks!!! Both racing and music! While not super memorable, some of the music tracks set the mood just right for the title and the racing tracks seem to be memorable on behalf of other aspects.
If they just could even have squeezed a GamePad Multiplayer into it as well!
Very eager.
Sweet!
I did however prefer the original slightly less intrusive HUD design and possibly the older menu designs too. I think I might have even preferred the slightly more Daytona and less Ridge Racer/Outrun gameplay of the original design as well but I'd have to actually play the game to tell with that one:

Still, overall, the near final version is looking like a lot of fun.
If that multiplayer is 4 player split-screen, day 1 for me.
Omg!! The wait is pure agony!! When the hell is this coming out already?? DAY ONE PURCHASE!! It looks so good that if they put it on ps4/xone I'll grab copies for those as well!! SHAME ON YOU SEGA!!!
So getting this when it comes.
And now the big question..... WHEN!?!?!?
Can't wait!
Wow. This is must-have.
I was searching online a couple of days ago to try to find out what was happening to this game. I came across a website that said September 2015 worldwide. I wouldn't get hopes up though as I would expect that date would have been on this newly released video.
This looks great, and Super Pang at the end definitely hit my nostalgia button.
Does anyone know if this is going to be full retail release/price?
I also wonder if the frame-rate will be locked at 60 with multiple cars?
If this works out and the game is actually quality... these devs should do Wave Race next...
What an incredible advert for Indie games!
There was an update to the kickstarter backers as well, but it is backer-only...
Looks pretty damn good. I hope we get to see footage of an actual race (with other cars on the road) soon. And a release date.
Hopefully, the announcer's voice is only a place holder because, yuk! Otherwise, A+ stuff here. MINE.
Just tell me when and I will be there! looks awesome
Just give it online play and we really have something.
I am really anxiously awaiting for this to come out!
Is it multiplayer?
@SmallFryUnify That's good to know. I work in audio with Logic and I was thinking it sorely needed some reverb or a Space Designer plug-in to give it some depth. If it's a simple case of the raw audio wave being used with no plug-in, then I'll hear the real deal upon release. Thanks for quelling my fears. Good luck!
Never heard of it, but it has my attention.
I saw this and I was back in the arcade taking on my mates at Daytona USA, will keep tabs on this I think.
Will likely pick this up day one. Reminds me of the good ol days with games like Cruisn' USA and what I remember of Daytona USA.
Good stuff. Reminds me how much I loved Forza Horizon 2- I really should get back to that game...
Day 1 buy!
This is the game I am waiting for the most...
Day 1 for sure!
Can't wait!
I'm super excited for this, maybe more than Project Cars, since it looks SO FUN, day 1 for sure, though I wish that meant Wednesday night's after midnight
This looks great, I hope it's coming soon !
Haha did they just copy the MK8 Ribbon Track Design
I'll buy it provided no online multiplayer.
I hate that everything has to have online to be good.
plus its supposed to be an arcade racer, arcade machines can't go online!
My goodness, that's an awful title. I'll bet it took them months to decide on that.
I like it!
@Gameday Have you ever heard of Micromachines?
@VanillaLake Yessir !
@Gameday They are a lot about toys and home environments.
