I hope whatever mobile games they put out, they'll eventually get rounded up in compilation volumes on their main platforms. I don't want to play games on my phone at all, but at the same time am highly curious and want this venture to go well for obvious reasons.
Even All Stars Racing Transformed had issues, and that game made my jaw drop in places. Such a shame the online mode was dead by the time I got my Wii U, and I'd prefer if the rull roster was unlocked from the get go.
Buying downloads I find just as addictive, but under different conditions. I don't want to own a.NES, but have loved building up a folder full of titles on my Wii U, and similarly sold a reasonably collectable SNES DKC crate bundle in order to switch to the VC's offerings (although sadly sacrificing the minor classic Unirally and perhaps Yoshi's Island too if the ports aren't quite the same). Perhaps adding games via the Virtual Console is different, but I was recently rather excited by the news that the Wii's Resident Evil 4 would be arriving on the Wii U, but had to re-think this when u realised I could buy a new physical copy for £6 - I was all ready to purchase a download, but the physical delivery just seemed less urgent and less of a requirement. As I said earlier though, new games is completely different and pricing is absolutely key. Also, it's not just the re-selling of games that becomes obselete but the passing on of the console itself, which most likely many will feel literally too invested in to sell for a fraction of what they spent building up their collection.
@JaxonH will be interesting to see what poorly scored or middle of the range reviewed Wii U games emerge with notable cult followings. Arguably ZombieU and W101 both have already. Sometimes a 6-7 score really is simply saying "not for everyone" as the broader readership needs to be taken into account maybe.
I'll be biting. Quite good with Revelations being £7.99 until the same date too. The whole eshop playing disquieting, atmospheric Ocarina of Time music is also a nice touch.
@ricklongo that's disappointing to hear. Not that this was a big release (and because things were so quiet I assumed it would be delayed so this review is a nice surprise in more ways than one), but I assumed it was a 3D platformer to play out of nothing but relaxation. At least it's cheap.
I'm pretty excited about this game - I assume it was something of a last minute solution to the E3 backlash as it would have brightened up their showing there a fair bit.
I had a Master System instead at the time. I used to think very little of the NES, but since I got my Wii U have got really into what's there on the VC. Games were seriously difficult back then, but with less importance on visuals i guess the emphasis was more on mastering the mechanics rather than taking everything in all at once visually. Mario Bros 3 is my probably not very original choice as my favourite NES game.
@2xDair good answer. I had a little practice with it to find what I think would be its weaknesses, and can only echo some of what you've pointed out. Re the last point, in bluefin depot they really do dominate (I guess you need to stick with it and try new tactics when these deadlock-like situations occur).
If it's 2 in 1, we should in theory have double the amount of games, or at least an substantially higher volume (no doubling up of Mario Karts and the like), which could also mean more new IPs (or at least more than we're used to). So if 3rd parties still don't quite flock to the machine, initially or long-term, then Nintendo at least has the situation compensated for better (driving higher sales, which in turn attracts 3rds, in theory at least).
If the portable included functions as a gamepad, and both can be sold separately (but with it being cheaper buying them together), then I think this is excellent news. I've already got money put aside for this, I hope they pull it off.
I don't want too many map layout changes, short cuts are good fun.
A modification I would want to happen is to the Splat Chargers, I'm quite sick of them - once they establish a good position you're basically screwed if you're using a roller and the game is at the point where you can't charge your weapon without going past them. Then there's the instances where they can get you from places that you should be safe from (Bluefin's two separate sides for example).
I thought this looked really promising. Glad I just kept it to the Konami kart game this week given the so so review. I'll get it when it's inevitably discounted.
I hope Yoshi goes down well in America - it would be nice if you guys got something added to it due to the borderline offensive wait. I've long since completed it, but still 2 world's left to 100% for the bonus levels (which are among the very best so well worth being thorough for). It might be super easy, but every stitch is full of so much charm.
Other M is a waste of time - you can buy it dirt cheap, so the inevitable £18 price tag makes it quite out of touch. Fire Emblem indeed would be a good choice. What annoys me most about Wii games on the Wii U VC is that most don't work with the gamepad and switch to Wii mode.
I'd love TP HD, especially if they get it out soon. It would be aa nice gesture to tide us over until the main Wii U installment. Skyward Sword is probably the Wii's best visual game and best showcase for the Wii mote, but as if most Wii U owners won't already have it.
Plays well, but demands a quick learning curve. Now all Nintendo needs to do is put Unirally on the eshop or even give us a sequel... Pumped will just have to fill the gap seeing as Nintendo lost a lawsuit over that one.
Will make a good Halloween release, the eshop should have enough 'spooky' things to make a theme of it. Sadly my hope that Splatfests would give levels Halloween and Christmas themes, like changing from day go night, doesn't look likely. Anyway, this game merely looks okay for what it is - I'll be preoccupied with Project Zero when the time comes, so probably won't be tempted.
@MrGawain I want Nintendo to make all their 1st party Wii U games available as NX downloads, perhaps even 5 or so others, rather than the expense of backwards compatibility with the discs. It's too good a library.
That's a disappointingly lukewarm review, I'm really intrigued by it. It goes without saying that the GameCube game is something of a gem. I say give him a slot on the next Mario Kart roster - bring back the Double Dash!! power ups and his cable could be his special weapon.
I'll still have my gamegear at my parents house, I'll need to get then to rummage or go and have one myself (I did come across it about 10 years ago so know it's there at least). No idea what games I had, it was a very short phase...
No thanks. The whole "yeah we'd work with Nintendo if they put our character in Smash" not being the only factor in my stance, but it didn't get in the way of it either.
Yet to play this, but recently downloaded the Zelda and Yoshi levels - I'm rather excited to try them, but just a big bogged down by higher priority games right now. They seem like exactly the sort of thing Nintendo should do more of with their 3rd party games - for example, playing as DK in Skylanders has truly elevated an otherwise pedestrian if pleasant franchise.
Surprised they're not waiting to release the sports titles (including Tennis N64) alongside Ultra Smash. What they did with Kirby I thought was great (putting all the VC Kirby games on discount to mark the release of Don't Forget Your Paintbrush or whatever they called it), but it didn't happen with Yoshi so sadly (I was hoping Yoshi's Island would finally get an eshop release), and obviously it would give people too much incentive to buy a game that so far hasn't exactly blown anyone away.
I'm also bored of what's there for the NES and SNES, I want more RPGs.
I intend of playing the next Splatfest a lot. I wasted about 30 of my snails 'swapping' my abilities around, or trying to. What a flawed system, you get given two or three of the same thing (which does not make the effect greater) or doubles of what you already have. I wish you could choose your abilities or at least earn the ability to.

Re: Sprixie Joins the Ranks in Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash
Too soon.
They need to truly open up the roster, have the inklings, etc, and add the GBA RPG elements as another mode.
Anyway, I'm still really up for this game.
Re: Nintendo Download: 6th November (Europe)
That poll really should be multiple choice by now.
Not a good VC week, but the two eshop games look okay.
Re: Nintendo and DeNA Smart Device Game Details Coming on 29th October, With Investors Demanding Specifics

Re: Nintendo Download: 29th October (Europe)
I'm going to be skint. Luckily pay day is next day.
Edit: I've added it up, it's not bad at all. Still, that's more this week than there's been in a while.
Re: Editorial: It's Far Too Soon to Go Download-Only, and Physical Retail Still Matters
Buying downloads I find just as addictive, but under different conditions. Re: Feature: Our Nintendo Gaming Plans for Halloween - Part One
I had a Halloween binge through the Virtual Console - those NES games are a nightmare in terms of difficulty.
Re: Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is Creeping Up On the European eShop for Halloween

Re: Poll: The Tricky Issue of Retail Games as Download-Only Releases
The fact that I own Shovel Knight, but have pre-ordered both the disc and amiibo probably answers the question succinctly.

Re: Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash Details Revealed, Including amiibo Support and Rosalina
Why would anyone be embarrassed about Rosalina?
Anyway, glad online finally got confirmed along with the original (which I own anyway) on VC.
Re: Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival Won't Have Online Play
It didn't even 'cross' my mind that it would. Mario Party never, so this was hardly likely to be different.
Re: Octodad: Dadliest Catch Gets A Revised Release Date
I like the premise, but hope the ending has him telling the wife who says "oh we knew all along silly".
Re: Bonk's Adventure Has Been Rated By The ESRB For Wii U
Nintendo have placed a 300 game limit on downloads?
Re: Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Super Mario Maker Maintain Decent UK Sales
Why never post the actual charts and sales?
Re: Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams Director's Cut Has Been Delayed Again in North America
I'd buy it if it came out in Europe. I've yet to complete it, but have really got into each time I've played. A bit tricky sometimes though.
Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd October (Europe)
Oh, and just to say I hope Just Dance absolutley tanks.
Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd October (Europe)
That's two NES games, both on the leaked VC list. So far so good for Twilight Princess HD then. I'll give them a shot...
Re: Video: This Pokkén Tournament Commercial Should Provide a Timely Reminder of Wii U Release Hype

Snap.

Re: Nintendo Download: 15th October (North America)
@VanillaLake sadly not. Maybe the novelty of actually completing a game so quickly has cancelled out the memory of any tough parts for me
Re: Nintendo Download: 15th October (North America)
@VanillaLake I must be getting better then:)
Re: Talking Point: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Would be No Surprise, as Nostalgia Rules for Nintendo
"does a Zelda game appearing (potentially) on three consecutive home consoles represent a new nadir in this trend?"
Yes, because 8 years is much too soon, and don't get me started on new graphics.
Of all that, I'm most shocked that Shovel Knight is only the 20th best selling UK eshop title.

Re: Rumour: A List of Unreleased Titles for the eShop and Virtual Console Just Leaked
I'm very disappointed by the VC games, hardly any truly appeal. I'd rather they put out more N64 instead of all the GBA and DS games.
Re: Review: LEGO Dimensions (Wii U)
@RCMADIAX how would you rank it alongside your top 5-10 Lego games?
I do want this, but only when it's discounted, I've got about 4 Lego games I've not even started yet as it is.
Re: Rumour: Dataminers Dig Up eShop Listings For Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda: Skyward Sword And Metroid: Other M

@allav866 and if it does, that's even more work. Sounds like a waste of time.
Re: Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Super Mario Maker Continue Solid UK Form
Why not just post the actual list?
Now that Lego Dimensions has sold poorly, I hope the price goes down just as fast as its chart position.
Re: Nintendo Download: 15th October (Europe)
Poor showing for the Wii U this week, Konami Kart is all I'm getting (a pity the latest mobile game looks so basic as this looks very decent).
Re: Editorial: A Wii U Price Cut is Still Worthwhile Despite Its Ongoing Woes
So my two cents is: low as they can possibly go, and bundle it with three download games (or possibly more).
Re: Editorial: A Wii U Price Cut is Still Worthwhile Despite Its Ongoing Woes
