Re: 'Team Solo' Takes Gold In Splatoon 3's 'Frosty Fest' Splatfest

FreasurePlanten

@AussieMcBucket I'm not sure they are journalists, this is more of a fan site about Nintendo content that reports on news and also posts guides and reviews. They have at various times reported on comments by leakers under the News moniker, for instance, which is incompatible with serious journalism. I don't know why embedding Twitter posts is where they'd draw the line.

Re: You Can Finally Repair Weapons In Zelda: BOTW And TOTK On Switch 2 (Sort Of)

FreasurePlanten

"Now, thanks to the new 'Zelda Notes' app that comes with the new Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, you'll actually be able to repair your equipment – finally!" YESSSS

"The catch, however, is that it'll be tied solely to a 'Daily Bonus' mechanic via the 'Zelda Notes' app, which acts as a sort of roulette that you'll be able to activate just once per day." NOOOOOO T.T

Re: Marathon Isn't Currently Planned For Switch 2, Unsurprisingly

FreasurePlanten

I actually think it's a bit surprising that Marathon isn't coming to Switch 2. Same with Destiny. PlayStation wouldn't lose anything by having these games on Switch. And Bungie is independent, they're releasing Marathon on Xbox and Destiny 2 is on Xbox as well. So why not on Switch 2?

P.S.: One possible answer is that they didn't want someone so close to Sony to have access to their development kit early. So it might very well be a matter of time.

Re: The Switch 2 Won't Have Achievements Or eShop Music

FreasurePlanten

Both of these are quite sad for me. If you don't like achievements you can turn some settings off so you don't need to pay any attention to them. But this is a big reason why I avoid third-party games on Nintendo systems. And no music anywhere in the menus and shop is just lame. Even PS5 has a home screen background music.

Re: Opinion: Oh No, I'm Not A Fan Of Switch 2's Mouse Mode At All

FreasurePlanten

@-wc- That was one of the more pedantic "actually" type comments I've seen around. The analogy was pretty bad too. Even if you race in GTA games (have no idea), participating in car races is not something you're doing constantly in GTA, but in Metroid you shoot at enemies and to unlock things pretty much always. And btw, the Metroid Wiki categorizes it as both action-adventure and first person shooter . I would personally also add that it has a Metroidvania-like progression. But let's not get that far.

Re: "Don't Let Nintendo Ruin The Entire Industry" - Is $80 For Mario Kart World A Bridge Too Far?

FreasurePlanten

I think this is only a shock for people in the US, games have been 80€ in Europe since the start of the PS5 generation, Nintendo just isn't giving Americans a benefit compared to other regions. 90€ for Mario Kart is absurd though, but I imagine it's to make the bundle with the game seem more appealing (and because they know people will buy Mario Kart in spades anyway).

P.S. Plus, I think it's clear that Nintendo is pushing for people to go digital this generation, so they get more of a cut per sell.

Re: Rumour: Placeholder Retail Listing Suggests Switch 2 Price Might Be Cheaper Than Expected

FreasurePlanten

@asmi8803 It would confuse the costumers. They want to avoid at all costs having a rough transition from Switch to Switch 2. They already have 3 SKUs of the Switch on the market. Maybe even some of them will be discontinued now that Switch 2 is going to be on the market. You should also consider the fact that Nintendo has to compete with other companies for retail space and chip manufacture. I also don't see them making a docked only system, as: i) the more dedicated players that would play only on TV can get the hybrid system anyway; and ii) that would invite comparisons with the other non-hybrid systems by PlayStation and Xbox, which Nintendo doesn't want. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Switch 2 Lite later down the line as a cheaper point of entry especially targeted at kids, however. Like they did with Switch. But that will take some time.

Re: Talking Point: Why An LCD Screen Isn't The End Of The World For Switch 2

FreasurePlanten

I have a Switch OLED and it was a life changer for me. I was skeptical of the Portal's LCD screen, but good word of mouth made me take the step of getting one and trying it and I was surprised by how good the screen is! I know Nintendo sometimes cheapens out to keep costs low at least in the initial models, but if they present a screen that is just as good as the Portal's, you won't see me complaining.

Re: Rumour: Kirby: Planet Robobot Will Indeed Come To Switch, It's Claimed

FreasurePlanten

I'll still take this as a maybe. He also said there was going to be a February Direct and is now saying he has no information on this. Outlets like Nintendo Life should have more journalistic integrity and report things like this with a lot more grains of salt and remind us of how much these leakers backtrack on their claims and not only what predictions they got right.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (8th February)

FreasurePlanten

My attention deficit is kicking in hard, so I'm spending small amounts of time across a lot of different games. Minish Cap, Golden Sun and Super Metroid on NSO, collecting the last shines in Bowser's Fury, banging my head against a wall trying to go through the Phazon Mines in Metroid Prime Remastered, finishing the Jabul Waters in Echoes of Wisdom. I'm still playing Spider-Man 2 on PC (not a great experience) and PS5, and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. On PS5 I'm also playing Celeste and maybe I'll get around to finally beating Jusant.
Have a good time gaming, everyone.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (25th January)

FreasurePlanten

I've beaten three games on Switch this week: Skyward Sword HD, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, and Link's Awakening. Now this weekend I've beaten Duck Detective: The Secret Salami, which I found very mid, and I'm dividing the short amount of time I'm not working to Luigi's Mansion 2 HD and Box Boy + Box Girl on Switch and Jusant and Judgement on PS5.

Have fun gaming everyone!

Re: Talking Point: Is The Switch 2 Going To Be Too Big?

FreasurePlanten

I wish the options were a lot more tentative, as we haven't seen one irl or held one in our hands, so how can we answer in such declarative terms. It is a concern for me, as I feel my Steam Deck OLED even though it isn't too heavy, is indeed too big. So I hope the Switch 2 or wtv it's called doesn't get too close to it in size.

Re: Nintendo Now Officially Owns 100% Of Monolith Soft

FreasurePlanten

I would celebrate, but does this really make a difference? Honest question, I don't understand anything about how this stuff works at all.

Edit: And I think in this case it's okay to feel nice about this because Monolith was for all intents and purposes already a first-party studio, so if anything this might mean more stability for them? And Nintendo isn't well known for closing down studios left-and-right after acquiring them...

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Top 5 Nintendo DS Games?

FreasurePlanten

Long ago I had a DSi XL, and had a ton of fun with Pokémon Platinum, which was my only game. I didn't manage to get any more games at the time because sadly someone stole it from me. But I always got the impression that I had played one of the best games on the system. Later in life I tried other brilliant games from the system, but I never played some of its most beloved titles. From what I tried, aside from Platinum, I would put Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Professor Layton and The Curious Village, perhaps Picross 3D and the first title from the Zero Escape series.
