Re: Video: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Gets A Five-Minute Overview Trailer

FreasurePlanten

I feel like Nintendo should really start putting together the localized version of these overviews online live concurrently. I want to know what they're saying when explaining the features of the game, so I invariably wait and sometimes I miss the updated articles or videos that go around social media.

Anyway, this game is a must for me. Very excited for it and to eventually watch the overview, in English.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Exclusives

FreasurePlanten

@smoreon All of their lists of "best X" feel like that, sadly. I honestly don't know what's the point. Not hurting anyone's feelings? Being safe-guarded if they forget one game or two?Marvel's Ultimate Alliance 3 as one of the best exclusives on Switch. Really? Sure, I liked the game, but that's really stretching it.

Re: Switch Release Dates For Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door & Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Confirmed

FreasurePlanten

@AccessibleDaydream It's a new game, you can see the announcement at the end of the last Nintendo Partner Showcase (Idk if I can post links here). It seems this new one is going to have an online multiplayer mode where you can go around and take pictures of sea life with a lot of other people from around the globe. Not my cup of tea, but could be fun if you liked the Wii one!

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase?

FreasurePlanten

An 8 for me. It was pretty good. But I also had lowered my expectations quite a bit, so everything nice came as a delight. I'm bad at remembering everything after the fact, but at the top of my head, Suika multiplayer, Epic Mickey remake, Monkey Ball, the Battlefront games, the Ender Lillies sequel... what Atlus is doing is upsetting but is really no surprise, unfortunately... but I'm still interested in checking out what the new content actually is and possibly getting it on sale.

Re: Rumour: A Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase Will Reportedly Drop Next Week

FreasurePlanten

It being corroborated by Pyoro makes this much more likely or almost assured to my eyes. Nate the Hate's and Jeff Grubb's speculations about the timing of the announcement of the next console and so on on the other hand are not as credible, if you ask me. Though I wouldn't be surprised, if this is indeed a Partner Showcase, if an announcement of the next console is on the horizon and we have a slower year for the Switch until its launch.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 20th)

FreasurePlanten

This weekend I'm sightseeing and working, barely any time for gaming these days. Might play a bit of Bayonetta Origins now that my partner has finished Dave the Diver and freed up the Switch. After finishing the Teal Mask and now trying to get through the Indigo Disk, I'm seriously considering giving up on it — what an uninspired and boring expansion. It would be okay to have a challenge, but when it forces you to repeat something that simply is not being fun... why bother.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 6th)

FreasurePlanten

Sadly this weekend I won't be gaming much as I have a strict deadline on Monday for work.

I finished Super Mario RPG on Friday and now I'm starting the Pokémon Scarlet The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC. Feels like something short and breezy before Another Code, which I'm really excited about after that demo.

Really exciting to see so many people play Persona 5 That's a gem.

Happy gaming and happy new year, everyone!

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk DLC

FreasurePlanten

Even if Pokémon is still selling very well, it's no coincidence that they have fallen down on the rank of best selling games on the Switch.

All franchises are selling better on the Switch, but why are Pokémon games now losing to other Nintendo franchises like Zelda or Super Mario? I'm pretty sure that if the games were more polished and spread out, you'd have Pokémon easily outselling BotW.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 9th)

FreasurePlanten

Very similar to last weekend. I should finish the Pikmin 4 main objective this weekend, but still a lot of extras to do over the next week. Also on Switch I'm having a lot of fun with Arkham City, feels good to return to that game after 11 years or so. I still have to finish Super Mario RPG, but I've been falling a bit off of it. It has some quirky characters and interesting interactions, but it's not clicking with me like the Paper Mario games I've played.
On the Steam Deck I'm still playing through Spider-Man Remastered, it's been a blast!

Re: Geoff Keighley Agrees Music Was Played "Too Fast" For TGA Winners This Year

FreasurePlanten

It's also pretty significant that the industry lay offs weren't mentioned in the show, or all the discourse surrounding the nomination of Dave the Diver as an indie game. And then he had the nerve to mention how it was impressive that "Light No Fire" was made by an independent studio. But if it doesn't feel like an indie game, it shouldn't be an indie game according to Geoff, right?

This guy is a joke, and the TGA are clearly not a celebration of video games, it's a way for Geoff to show off at the expense of the creators.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 2nd)

FreasurePlanten

Finished Detective Pikachu Returns (it was fine, some cute interactions with Pokémon) and Sonic Forces (meh) on Switch this past week. This weekend I'm devoting myself to Pikmin 4, now moving on to the 4th area. Also on Switch I just beat the first boss and got my first Star Piece in Super Mario RPG. Otherwise, I'm getting ready to play Miles Morales with my partner over Christmas by revisiting Spider-Man Remastered on the Steam Deck.

Have a good time gaming, everyone!

Re: Watch: Is Five Years Between Splatoon Games Too Short A Wait?

FreasurePlanten

If X and Z are basically the same game, then any amount of years Y is too short a wait in between games, especially online ones. It still remains to be seen what is really new about Splatoon 3. For someone that is not too dedicated to it, I haven't seen nearly enough to convince me that this couldn't be an expansion. Will patiently wait for overview trailers or a dedicated direct, especially if it has a more dedicated singleplayer experience.

Re: Shuntaro Furukawa Reveals What Nintendo Is Doing To Combat Info Leaks & Security Threats

FreasurePlanten

I wouldn't agree that Nintendo has been one of the biggest victims of leaks in the video game industry - quite the opposite. They're part of a small number of companies that is able to keep a good number of big surprises under covers until the moment of their reveal. They have often been victim of leaks, sure, but so has everyone else, it's a plague affecting everyone.

Re: Nintendo's Official Infographic Showcases All Games From The Direct Mini

FreasurePlanten

Blanc was maybe my favourite surprise from the Direct. Looked like an incredibly cozy, charming adventure. Looking forward to playing it with my bestie.

Like @samuelvictor I didn't think there was any game there that actively looked bad to me. I had quite a lot of reservations about Sonic from what had been showed previously, but even the trailer for that game was pretty solid I'd say.

I am very excited to play the Persona games on Switch, but I think everyone saw that coming. Since they saved the announcement for the Direct specifically, I was hoping for maybe something extra, but it was still great to get a confirmation.

So far I've gotten the Portal Companion Collection and Little Noah, with Live A Live pre-ordered with a good discount on a physical store Very good presentation, imo.

Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The-E3-That-Isn't E3 - Bayonetta, GoldenEye, And... Viva Piñata?!

FreasurePlanten

I'm with the people that think there'll be a general direct this month. I also expect to see a longer trailer for Breath of the Wild 2 and if there's a treehouse, I would expect a longer gameplay walkthrough there, similar to what we got during E3 2016. I want to see a Splatoon 3 campaign trailer. Bayonetta 3 with a new trailer and release date for October most likely. If they save the Three Hopes demo for then, we could get an overview trailer as well. There will probably be something Zelda for this year to keep up with the yearly release trend. I would prefer a 2D remake, though I would be excited for a WW and TP HD collection as well. I can see the rumoured Metroid Prime remake or Prime Trilogy re-release being announced for October or December. If not, probably it could be saved for September for an early 2023 release. I would love to see a Metroid Prime 4 teaser trailer with a short clip of a couple of seconds of gameplay, but it might be too early.
There should be some third-party stuff there. My bet is Klonoa, Dragon Quest 3 HD2D, Mario + Rabbids. I wonder what weird collaboration or project might be here. I think there might still be a surprise new game for the end of the year from Nintendo. Maybe DK as people have been saying. I would love to see something else, however. Not sure what it could be.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 4th)

FreasurePlanten

I've been replaying Assassin's Creed II and will be trying out the Mario Strikers demo on Switch. It's been a lot of fun to explore 15th century Italy with Ezio again, the game is really vibrant on the OLED screen. I got hold of a PS5 not long ago and have been playing The Last of Us Remastered on it as well. I'm surprised I'm being able to get through the zombie segments, but I'm enjoying it quite a bit, especially the development of the relation between Joel and Ellie.

Re: Junichi Masuda Leaves Game Freak For New Role At The Pokémon Company

FreasurePlanten

While there have been great games headed by him, and the gens that introduced me to Pokémon - 3 and 4 - were already under him, I think this is for the better. The fact that he was overseeing BDSP and not as involved (it seemed) with Legends Arceus was revealing, and I hope this means that he'll be more focused on other things and let other people take over the games more and more. There's talent and new life in Game Freak and I think we'll start to see that more and more. I was very happy with Legends Arceus, I hope they continue that trend. And less of a direct involvement from Masuda seems to be part of the reason for the new direction.

Re: The Switch Has Now Outsold The 3DS In Japan

FreasurePlanten

It'll be interesting to see if the Switch can take the top spot. I personally think it will as I think a successor to the system will only come out in late 2024 at the earliest and most likely in 2025. I'm sure Nintendo still has a lot prepared for the system - I still expect at least one Pokémon game after gen 9, a new Fire Emblem and/or a Fire Emblem remake, Metroid Prime 4, either that rumoured Donkey Kong game and/or a new 3D Mario, the new IP from Monolith Soft... and then there's eventually a slower period corresponding to the calm before the storm of the new system releasing. They learned their lessons with the 3DS and Wii U, so whenever they decide to release the Switch's successor, they'll need to be ready to have a steady stream of content coming, so they'll need time to have games ready. I think the teams releasing games now will be the some of the ones working on some of the year one games for the new system.

Re: Thunderful Reveals Three More SteamWorld Games Are In Development

FreasurePlanten

This is so so exciting. Only game from them I haven't tried yet (it's waiting on my Steam backlog) is Quest, I've even played The Gunk and I think this team is one of a very small handful of studios in which I have high hopes without having even seen the games or knowing much about them. I had forgotten about Headhunter. There are just too many games coming out.
I'm especially intrigued by the puzzle game, as that's one of my favourite genres. What I would really love to see however would be a SteamWorld Dig 3.
