More to the point, tempering expectations for a Partner Direct announced with one day’s heads up, in July, weeks after a system is released seems sensible — rather than risking disappointment and frustration.
What were people expecting? It’s July, one month and some weeks after the console’s launch. And a partner direct, when many developers didn’t even get a dev kit.
Of course it’d largely be ports, with a fairly decent spread of genres to boot.
And with ports, many gamers will have played some titles already. Hardly the fault of developers.
Expecting anything else seems borderline delusional. The announcements will come, patience is a virtue.
I remember trying to play it, and I didn’t vibe with the looks, gameplay or humor — and later the fandom turned out to be pretty damn obnoxious (as every fandom is).
@Whirlwound Not on topic at all, but a few years ago the JR Rail Pass got a dramatic price hike and is VERY rarely worth the money. You'd have to use it so much that you'd spend most of your trip on the Shinkansen.
Sometimes it's usable on local trains, but it's far from a given.
It’s okay. I feel it’s way too easy, and the constant congratulations for just playing is just some instant gratification BS which wear thin quickly. Same with the destruction.
How is this news? Switch 2 is more expensive and has been out for a bit north of a month. Switch had been out for half a year at Odyssey’s release, and Mario is a household name. Donkey Kong doesn’t have half his oomph with the general public.
After playing some today, it’s definitely a 7/10. It’s fun for what it is, and I think it’s an interesting take on Pac-Man. I don’t know if I’d call it edgy, but definitely edgy for Pac-Man standards.
It does look great, but I wouldn’t get this for the Switch. This feels more akin to something for an iPad Pro or MacBook, as an extra case for a fashion/professional statement.
However, nice to see American products made in America (even if I’m European). That definitely adds to that price tag too.
@Orwellian87 McDonalds won’t ceremoniously let people go either.
These are people paid to do contract jobs, when it comes down to it.
Naturally companies will want to keep popular actors around, but eventually the cost compared to fresh talent will cause a shift. Any form of ceremonious send off would be nothing more than a shallow PR play, and at the end of the day — most of the people playing these games have no idea who these actors are.
And they definitely contribute less than the average developer on the team, who won’t get any ceremony either — when they leave or retire.
Despite not going to, I bought it because of the raving reviews.
It’s better than Odyssey by a mile, but there’s no way this gimmick won’t grow stale. After and hour I felt like ”All right… kinda seen this game now, I think”.
It’s way too simplistic, has absolutely no challenge (so far) and it really is just about smashing up the level with an ugly monkey with an annoying sidekick excitedly cheering you along for… smashing things.
While I’ve gotten some completely braindead enjoyment out of it, and it’s well made — it’s wild that the lowest review score is an 8/10. I’d say, from what I’ve seen so far it’s a 6-7/10, and that would be a generous 7.
Happy for all the people loving it, but… am I missing something?
I personally want to see some criticisms, as it just seems like glazing considering the 97 Odyssey sits at. For me that was like a 6/10 at best and I couldn’t even get myself to complete it.
Hopefully people, and particularly kids, will have a god damn blast though!
Strive brought Guilty Gear into the mainstream and made the series bigger than ever before. Literally the opposite of dying.
This happens in game dev. Explore concepts, if the concepts don’t work out — back to the drawing board it is. Even if it means longer until a new entry, this is likely good news.

Re: Anniversary: No Way Is Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island 30 Years Old Already
@smoreon Well, yeah. I don’t -feel- old, for sure. And the 80’s are indeed perpetually 20 years ago! 😂
Re: Anniversary: No Way Is Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island 30 Years Old Already
@smoreon No, my friend... I'm pushing 40, so I'm definitely not young.
So it's less me being young and thinking "This looks old", and my childhood feeling very distant!
Re: Anniversary: No Way Is Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island 30 Years Old Already
When I see ”Can’t believe game X is this old!” I almost always think ”Huh. Thought it was older.”
Re: Kirby And The Forgotten Land Switch 2 Trailer Showcases More New Mouthful Modes
Best 3D platformer. Easy buy.
Re: Atelier Ryza Secret Trilogy Deluxe Pack Won't Offer Switch Upgrade Path Or Save Data Transfer
I guess the new content makes save files incompatible?
Glad I foresaw this and shelved Ryza 1 for a bit.
Re: Guilty Gear Switch Edition Update And DLC Arriving Fall 2025
I hate guest characters with a burning passion, and would’ve hoped that Guilty Gear would avoid them.
But… she looks like great fun. Damn.
Re: Video: Street Fighter 6 Teases Next DLC Fighter And More Outfits In Two New Trailers
As a bonafide gooner, this is great.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (2nd August)
I picked up a Lenovo Legion Go and decided to revisit Metal Gear Solid V.
Stealth gameplay doesn’t get better than that (and while the story is what it is, it’s still better than MGS4).
Re: 'Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact' Brings 3v3 Anime Fighting To Switch
As much as I love ArcSys, this looks… not great.
Then again, I thought the anime was just okay — and then it took a sharp nosedive with the Chimera Ant Arc. That refused to end…
Re: Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Gets Free Switch 2 Performance Patch
Atlus, Square and their lack of upgrade paths.
Re: Reaction: Switch 2 Needed A Partner Showcase With Pep; This Wasn't It
@Fiergala That’d be great!

Re: Yakuza Kiwami 2 Brawls Onto Switch 2 In November
Nice. Glad to see the old Yakuza games coming to Switch.
Like A Dragon turn-based really didn’t do it for me.
Re: Gulikit's 'Elves 2' Is The First Third-Party Pad With Switch 2 'Wake-Up' Support
It looks like 3D-printed Temu trash.
Props on the price point, though.
Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase July 2025: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer
Persona 3 Reload is good. Romancing Saga good.
I think that’s it. Not great, not terrible.
Re: Nintendo Highlights Multiple Switch 2 And Switch Games Launching In August 2025
Kirby is the best 3D platformer bar none. Easy buy.
Re: Feature: Nintendo Partner Direct Predictions - What Do You Expect To See?
Can’t wait to see some more Hentai puzzle games!
Re: Guilty Gear Switch Edition Update And DLC Arriving Fall 2025
All good.
Glad they’re transparent, and I assume this is a low priority project for them as the numbers on Switch probably aren’t great.
The port is magic, however.
Re: Ubisoft Reportedly Cancels Star Wars Outlaws Sequel
@WRDend Happy to read that!
For your sake, I do hope they make a sequel one day.
Re: NIS America: Trails Beyond The Horizon Switch 2 Game-Key Card Release Is "Most Beneficial Option" For Fans
I think that the game card outrage is a whole bunching overreactions, but nah. This ain’t it.
Re: Ubisoft Reportedly Cancels Star Wars Outlaws Sequel
@ibookboyuk The best I’ve heard about it is ”It’s not as bad as people say. It’s okay if you like Star Wars”.
I’ve never heard anyone say they love it.
Re: Toby Fox Wants To Celebrate 10 Years Of Undertale With Your Memories

Bangin’ soundtrack though.
Re: 112 Games You Should Pick Up In Nintendo's Summer Switch eShop Sale (Europe)
@Whirlwound All good then! I just see so many people who are unaware that it’s rare for the Rail Pass to be worth it nowadays.
Do enjoy the trip!
Re: Sega Drops Another Small Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S Update On Switch 2
The outrage is quite something. If you already bought the game on Switch, you’ve got the game. If not, this is an ever so slightly better package.
I agree that an upgrade path would always be preferable (Hi Suikoden, P5R on PS5 etc.), but damn.

Re: Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot Is Hopeful That Upcoming Switch 2 Port Can Revive Star Wars Outlaws
Now this is some copium. ”Star Wars just ain’t popular enough”.
Jedi Survivors did great, and on a similar note Hogwarts Legacy did numbers despite plenty of Harry Potter drama.
Re: Gender Split & Average Ages Of Japanese Nintendo Players Revealed Via New Survey
Zero surprises there. Truly.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Donkey Kong Bananza?
It’s okay. I feel it’s way too easy, and the constant congratulations for just playing is just some instant gratification BS which wear thin quickly. Same with the destruction.
It’s polished and pretty, but…
6/10

Re: Review: Gulikit Elves 2 Pro Controller For Switch And Switch 2 - A Small, Yet Refined Saturn Tribute
They look absolutely horrible. Like 3D printed crap from Temu. 😂

Re: Prefer Your Pokémon Sweary With "Pixelated Booty"? 'The Edge Of Allegoria' Might Just Be For You
SMT has some semblance of cohesion and a world that supports it and is intriguing.
This looks like it’s trying too hard to be funny with an R-rated GB-esque JRPG. I’m good.
Re: Review: Shadow Labyrinth - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Sometimes 'Good Enough' Is Just That
I pre ordered this one. A dark and gritty take on Pac-Man sounds pretty fun, imo.
And guys — this looks leagues better than Bomberman: Act Zero. 😅

Re: Nintendo Has Seemingly Taken Further Steps To Combat 'eSlop' On Switch 2
I don’t really like the second clause. It’s very vaguely worded.
Get rid of sexualized child depictions sure. That’s clear enough ”political content” and ”overly sexual content” means what, exactly?
Re: PSA: You Only Have A Few Days To Buy This Bithell Games Title Before It's Gone
@HingryHuppo Well, yeah. ”Forever” was naturally a hyperbole. E.g. 3DS store is completely scrapped.
I meant to say that a delisting has zero effect on game cards.
Re: Square Enix Rules Out Switch 2 "Upgrade Path" For Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake
Shame. Got the Switch 2 though, and I wasn’t going for the upgrade path anyway.
Re: PSA: You Only Have A Few Days To Buy This Bithell Games Title Before It's Gone
@johnedwin Well, no. On the contrary, you could still get your hands on a delisted game.
Even the digital copy you buy before it’s delisted means that you can download it forever. You just can’t buy it after it’s delisted.
Re: Nintendo Is Seeking Player Feedback On Game-Key Cards In Japan
Most consumers won’t care and it won’t affect sales.
They work just fine and can be resold.
Re: iFixit Performs A Full Teardown Of Nintendo's "P**s-Poor" Pro Controller
In terms of usability and comfort it’s really nice though, but I guess that’s secondary.
Re: Hitman Developer Is Working On Switch 2 Performance Issues "Right Now"
I had it crash twice in the tutorial mission. And performance isn’t great there either.
Happy to read this. Fantastic game, and portable? If fixed, fantastic.
Re: Atelier Ryza Secret Trilogy Deluxe Pack Announced For Switch 2 And Switch
I just started the first one, and got the other two on deep sales.
Might just play through the first one and if the Switch 2 version is noticeably upgraded — go with 2+3 with this version.
Re: Another Atelier Game Is Coming To Switch This September, Here's A "First Look"
...Some weird flexing going on in these comments.
Re: Miyamoto Views Games As 'Products', Not 'Works Of Art', Says Ex-Nintendo Dev
He's right. It makes judging design decisions easier.
Spec out what the product is supposed to do and what it is, make it measurable. Figure out the constraints and needs to hit the goal.
"Entertainment product". Simple.
Re: Nintendo Will Discontinue Switch Game Vouchers Entirely In 2026
