The original was the first DS game I bought that didn’t come with the console. It had so much potential but the story felt like it was filled with plot holes and incomplete elements. I started the sequel but never finished.
Hope this second time will help me understand it more and also finish the second. Always did like Ashley’s design.
At least it’s not a rare yet sought after game (I believe).
Just reminds me of a guy I met who had bought straight from Konami Europe a box of 30 copies of Suikoden II. He already had 2-3 other copies and wouldn’t sell me one even at eBay prices. In his right to do so; also his right to be a hoarding jerk.
Am a big fan of the series, so will be picking up my copy.
Reading through, sounds like they didn’t include the enhanced MMBN1 & MMBN5 releases on the DS; the former of which was a Japan exclusive.
Then again, the MMBN5 rerelease included the dub voices from the anime which were always way too deep for the characters and personally I thought they were massive miscasts. Much preferred the JP VA’s.
I’ll choose the Mario All Stars version. Although NLife calls it feeling “off”, I say it fixes what was wonky in the first place. I feel that Mario controls much better in SMB All Stars and I can correct any minor “mis-jumps” whilst in SMB NES it’s less forgiving and need to always make your jumps accurately first time or pay the penalty.
I don’t even want to remember how much I’ve spent over the last few months buying up almost everything I wanted. Some was questionable whilst some was driven by FOMO. Still, I have to live with it now. Maybe this will get me to try them out more.
I do however still have 2 games I am swinging about getting.
1) Axiom Verge on Wii U; have on Switch but sounds good having map on gamepad.
2) Harmoknight; demo didn’t grab me but driven by it being an eShop exclusive.
@Shambo Took the words out of my mouth. Capcom Europe always used to put the exact same games on sale and the. Seemingly just stopped.
Biggest disappointment was discovering Nintendo published Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright; the physical is only going up in value and the digital in Europe has never once dropped below launch price.
@BenoitRen I’ve been waiting for Persona Q2 and EO Nexus to go on sale for years so I could keep my physical copies sealed. Fast approaching I won’t be able to so I can grab the DLC.
I actually thought this may have been a start of Konami returning to releasing more standard games and bringing West some of its primarily Japanese franchises.
I wouldn’t mind weapon degradation if the swords lasted A LOT longer and could be repaired. I’d like a system where each weapon has effectively a set amount of HP that will degrade with each hit. Once it drops below a certain level, it starts doing half damage and once it reaches zero it breaks.
Repairs can be carried out by blacksmiths that can also assess the remaining strength of your sword and charge accordingly. You could also obtain smithing stones to repair your swords in the field by set amounts. Maybe later in the game you can acquire equipment that can assess and even do major repairs yourself.
Probably a similar situation where someone gets a tattoo with Japanese or Chinese characters because it looks cool or Exotique, only to find out later it says something equivalent to “bel**nd” or “*anks**ft”.
@romanista Pure luck, I checked it online during the Christmas hols.
FromTheVoid Games has been posting numerous videos about what will be lost when the services shutdown on his YouTube channel, whilst he tries to Tweet whenever sales appear.
Been playing Paper Mario and the Origami King. Whilst doesn’t hold a candle to the original 3 games in terms of Gameplay (the battle system is such a stupid idea with no redeeming reasons to go into battles) the writing is pretty decent and the exploration and puzzles are somewhat fulfilling so I plan to see it to the end.
Haven’t signed up but considering. What’s actually holding me back is that I am already worrying about loosing access to all these games at some point in the future. I’d feel like I’d have to play them now so I don’t have to rush.
I don’t play online, prefer to buy DLC and not exactly hankering for the controllers, so the Retro Library is the only thing drawing me to it.
As much as old me would have rejected the option in the past, I am slowly looking more towards Everdrives.
Never heard of these before, hence at first I thought this may be a collection of the older NES, GB, SNES & MD titles. I mean there are at least 6 right there, of course it does cover 2 publisher’s works.
@IamReAllyFeelinF5 I’m still occasionally checking, despite being in the U.S. on holiday.
Probably will either learn to live without it or buy one off eBay and leave a bad review for the seller being a filthy scalper and wishing they bank account gets hacked and drained.
Really like the art style, but not the lack of direct control. I feel like no one makes just regular action platformers anymore. Most games are either puzzle platformers, Metroidvanias or Rogue-Lites.
Winged design suggests like the current blue shell rather than the original. I wish they’d revert the Blue Shell back to what it was like originally. Traversed on the ground taking out everyone in the way before homing in on the leader. This meant the lead car was usually not the only one affected and wouldn’t loose their 1st place because someone far back got lucky with the item box and actually never ends up passing the kart they hit.
In its current guise, the item feels like it was purposefully designed to annoy the player when I’m singleplayer.
They need to do a Dragon Quest IV-VI collection on Switch to follow on from the I-III collection. Been trying to get the DS releases for years and only got VI.
Excited, but I do hope they include an epilogue type chapter that ties the stories together. I finished all 8 stories of the first game but never did all the stuff to supposedly tie the story together. I decided to come back some other time but forgot. Now I can barely remember the battle system.
Wish Nintendo would release a tier of NSO that only gives you access to the classic games. No online play, no DLC, nothing extra. I know it will never happen though as makes little sense from a business perspective.
Learnt about Super Metroid from Total Magazine; I recall one pretty awesome cover showcasing Samus without her helmet and a bloody scratch on her cheek.
Things went quiet and I forgot about the series until I bought my GBA SP with Metroid Fusion; though it was Metroid Prime on the GameCube that really reinvigorated my love for the series.
I admit I mainly only read the info releases early in its reveal and barely anything in the last few months so this is the 1st I’ve heard of the heavy VN elements. If anything, this feels more like a case of inconsistent messaging during marketing.
Hardly sounds “creepy”, especially as the two were practically on the border of becoming a couple right from the 1st chapter of play (sans Shulk’s oblivious nature which is par for the course for many JRPG protags). Physical contact has become a touchy subject (no pun intended) for some but like many things there’s no black & white way of looking at it. Still I agree that the change does align better with Shulk’s innocent nature. So agree with the change, but hardly see it as a “dodged a bullet” moment.
@AlexanderDaniels I’ve never liked the silent protag trend as the story will almost take a hit to align with whatever characterisations the player decides to go with. To say nothing of how jarring it is to have a player chara that seems mute and occasionally nods or shakes his/her head. Give me a fully fleshed out character any day.
Is it a game that ignores all the lessons of this game and most of the previous Sonic games that will either disappoint or actually show some potential, only for all those good lessons learnt be forgotten once the next game comes round so they can roll the dice once again?
@JazzyBeat Cos I’m only going to care about my circumstances and my decisions; everyone else is no concern of mine what they decide. Especially someone who froths at the mouth because people have different viewpoints as to what they seek in a game console.
Still bitter I spoiled myself in a Did You Know Gaming video last year about this game though as some story development later on would have wowed me whilst playing.
As a standard OLED owner I was a little worried a Pro model was announced via Twitter trends. Am hoping for at least 2 years of OLED joy before replacing.
Looks nice, but as a non-fan of Splatoon this won’t force my change purse open.
I only partially followed this game because of the inclusion of Mecha but I never realised it could transition to a FTP model. This however kills any interest I had it in, especially as there’s gonna be new story content once the transition takes place.
I must confess, ever so slightly disappointed this happened as after many hopes I decided to start Royal on the PS4 a few weeks back. Now 50 hrs in as being my 3rd attempt at Persona 5 (I’d say around 100 hrs combined so far) I’m not stopping to restart yet again.
Honestly Royal should have been on Switch from Day 1. The Switch’s hybrid nature just fits so well with my day to day life and desire for JRPGs.
@commentlife Whilst XC1 & XC2 are both stand-alone games, the fact that the background of the XC3 cover has callbacks to the past 2 games and other signs suggests this game may tie them together. So honestly I would suggest playing through the 2 previous games or at least reading up on them.
Unless something is announced in an upcoming Direct, I’m starting to believe that Sony is deliberately trying to keep mainline Persona titles from the Switch, almost as if they fear it.
May have been interesting, but would have driven some collectors absolutely insane if there were that many cart variants; can’t tell from details if it was a unique cartridge software code or same software on all carts and it effectively “rolled a dice” to decide your experience.
Mainly bought the 1st collection for the shm’ups (spent tonnes of hours on Carrier Air Wing) but this one at first glance has a weaker selection. After a strong start I believe the success of Street Fighter II and other fighting games started to influence the genres they concentrated on.
I’ll wait till I can read and analyse a full list on their official website.
I can also keep dreaming for a Compile, Raizing and/or Taito Arcade Collection.
Glad to see this is taking place. As well as being part of gaming’s history, they also act as reminders of what influenced video games today as well as provide lessons of both the good and the bad (although some of those lessons continue to be ignored).
That and personally I just feel games of past generations were generally better than most of today’s offerings. Purer, less bloated, less interference from publishers, etc.
I expected this dull as dishwater track. To work it needs manic items galore and double digit number of laps. Otherwise it is a like going round a roundabout multiple times. I have more fun driving through Swindon.

Wait what?
Wait what!!
WAIT WHAT!!!!
Yeah I’m buying this regardless of how it runs on the Switch cos I’m a total whore for this series. It’ll really just determine how many copies I buy.
Re: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy Announced For Nintendo Switch
@Hinade Same her, plus Capcom Europe never gave us last minute sales for them.
Re: Two Switch Games Will "No Longer Be Available" On The eShop
@DiamondJim Also just gone on sale (for likely the last time) in the UK (£4.49) and I’m assuming Europe too.
Re: UK Charts: Not Even Street Fighter 6 Can Knock Zelda: TOTK Off Its Throne
What makes me smile is that Metroid Prime Remastered is actually still in the Top 40. Expected it to have a decent launch window before tumbling out.

Re: Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection Brings Original Trio Of DS Titles To Switch In June
Will definitely wait for a sale, especially if we are getting only digital releases in the West.
Also as these don’t seem to include the Untold 1/2 stories I’m less interested in paying full price.
At least I can keep my original games all nicely sealed up.

@RainbowGazelle All the Atlus games published by NISA in Europe were on sale for approx. £3.50 each until the 4th Jan. Grabbed the lot of them.
Now let’s see those Capcom sales in Europe too.
