Nintendo has just unveiled a brand new Switch OLED with a shiny lick of paint, and pre-orders are now open!
The new Splatoon 3-themed Switch OLED features some gorgeous-looking Joy-Cons with gradient colourations and splats of paint all over them. The dock itself also has a lovely dollop of sunny yellow paint on it complete with all of the usual Splatoon-style art.
This is the first themed variant of the Switch OLED we've seen since its launch last October, and we're pretty in love right now. See how those Joy-Con are actually two-tone, blending between yellow and green on one, blue and purple on the other, both with white, slightly translucent rear sides? We don't need another Switch, right?

But don't worry if you don't fancy a new OLED or Switch, as Nintendo has also got a new Pro Controller and a Carrying Case to help you Splatoon on the go!
Here's a closer look at the system and those lovely new Joy-Con, plus the Pro Controller.
That controller would go nicely with the pink and green one for Splatoon 2, wouldn't it? The Pro Controller will cost $74.99 / £64.99 and the case a nice little price of $24.99 / £19.99.
The Switch OLED launches on 26th August for a cool $359.99 / £319.99, while the controller and the case are available from 9th September, the same day as Splatoon 3 splashes down. You can keep track of stock for all of these Splatoon 3-themed items in our pre-order guide.
Will you be picking up any of these? Let us know in the comments!

It looks, pretty cool, tbh the only things that really sticking out for me is the controller, other then that, it’s kinda meh, for me anyway.
These all look really clean! If I ever get a Switch OLED I might have to get this one!
BEHOLD: The Switch Pro!
And people went crazy cause Nintendo took the OLED and Lite Trailers down lol
This is the freshest way to kill the Switch Pro rumors
Not huge on the colours of this one and the patterns are a little too busy. I already have an OLED though so not like I would have gotten it anyway.
Looks alright. Not really screaming "splatoon" to me, at least the white dock and black body. Wish they would make special edition systems stand apart a lot more than "here is a decal on the dock and a new joycon colour that will break after a month"
Very nice, I've already got the white OLED model but I'd definitely be upgrading to this if I didn't.
The White bundle Switch OLED is still the best for me.
I'd love a Persona 5 themed Switch
It looks really cool, always fun to see more game-centric Switch designs. I’m definitely holding off buying another until the eventual Pro/Next-Gen.
The pro is never coming. I still have the splatoon 2 pro controller and case from 2017
Looks like Nintendo or GameFreak or The Pokémon Company or what else has some rights to Pokémon is totally hating Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, because there is now left tomorrow and day after tomorrow for those news. And if news comes next week and later then from fans prospective it will feel like one of these: games will lack new content compared to previous Generations main titles or one said companies above dislike the games they making for this Generation already...
This looks awesome, wonder if you can get the joycon on their own.
I NEED those joycons
Nintendo really wanting us and the Switch to STAYYY FRESHHH!
@johnvboy The Splatoon2 Joy-con's used to be sold separately.
So lets hope they will do so with these.
@SViper 😂 Welcome to the Generation of Entitlement
Nothing makes me happier than seeing people who scream all the time about the “SWITCH PRO!!1!” suffer.
@Matl it’s covered in Splatoon decals! How can it not scream Splatoon? What an utterly baffling comment!
Those Joycons look STELLAR, but I'm gonna go for the Procon instead. I've been needing to get a second controller anyway so this timing is perfect for me.
That looks amazing!!
The gradient Joy Cons and the actual console itself being littered with designs makes this my number one Switch model, just barely surpassing the Super Mario 35th one.
We'll hopefully get some real news next week
Did people actually believe the Switch Pro was supposed to be revealed today 🤣?
To me this confirms that Nintendo will not do more powerful hardware until they go full next gen
I'm not the biggest Splatoon 3 fan, but those dock and joy-con designs are dope. I'd be tempted if I didn't already have a Switch OLED.
Looks alright I suppose but I already have 2 Switch Lites (Blue and Coral) my launch Switch as well as my OLED that I only bought quite recently with Orange and Purple Joycons so I'm good.
Joy-con please be sold separately
If I were in the market for a new Switch, I would pick this up!
Switch pro will just be the next generation console. Switch 2.
@westman98 Yes lol
I don't like Splatoon, but love the designs especially the Joycons.
Scalpers at the ready..........
Nintendo is already having issues getting Switches out to various markets as is, so a Pro will probably never be in the cards. Plz understand.
I'm actually tempted to grab this, though. VERY nice, and I want an OLED model anyway.
@SViper what the heck are you talking about lmao
There's your Switch Pro
Why can't they just sell those new joy con's on their own
@Bizzyb
I dunno why yall love to use the word 'entitlement' like, come on it's a product you're paying for
@SViper Dude what are you talking about?
@Bret My reaction too. I read his comment and was like what?
But she's got a new hat!
As a standard OLED owner I was a little worried a Pro model was announced via Twitter trends. Am hoping for at least 2 years of OLED joy before replacing.
Looks nice, but as a non-fan of Splatoon this won’t force my change purse open.
@westman98 I think so because someone with absolutely zero credibility on YouTube or Twitter or something said so!
Where's Xenoblade Chronicles 3 themed Switch or joy cons or Switch Pro Controller?
Loving the Oled themed version for this, but purchased the white oled so won't be buying. Really disappointed with the pro controller, feel they got lazy with this. Xenoblade version still the best one to release.
not surprised you tube rumors of a switch pro have never lived up to expectations..
Nintendo is getting a little closer to the options offered by AliExpress joycon shells and stuff on Etsy.
Im looking for forward to the day Smash Ultimate gets a Special rerelease and then the OLED dock gets some snazzy smash bros treatment
Damn it. I wish they would release Joy-Con and Dock bundles in these situations, even if they’re merely exclusive to the My Nintendo Store. I don’t care enough to transfer everything over merely for the Splatoon silhouettes on the rear of the console (I could smack myself for “upgrading” to the Let’s Go console for that reason, which I had spent over a year resisting).
I’m curious as to how the Switch will recognise the Joy-Con given that they are (presumably/anecdotally) flagged with a single colour, unless of course this is to be rectified via a system update.
Either way, game/franchise specific Joy-Cons with designs of this complexity are LONG overdue.
@westman98 unfortunately, yes.
Damn! Since i play mostly handheld, I've been wanting to get a second Switch OLED! That Pro controller is nice too! Mabey I'll try to pre-order from Gamestop. This might be my 9th Switch console lol!
After using the Switch OLED daily since day 1, it's hard to go back to my other Switch/Lite systems. Part of me wants to sell them and replace them all with OLED models. Another part of me wants to at least keep my ACNH Switch consoles and just use them docked to my LG C1 OLED tv's. Does anyone else feel this way about the older Switch systems? Or is it just me?
I was tempted to get one, but after the hype died down, I'll likely just get the Pro Controller to go alongside my Splatoon 2 Pro Controller.
A hardware refresh (that fabled Pro Switch) or the "Super Nintendo Switch", the fabled successor, has to be around the corner, in the next year or two. And as long as my launch model continues to run, however hotly, I'll hold.
Lol "switch pro imminent?" Says gamexplain.
@SViper What on earth are you talking about?
Really hope that these Joycon come out separate, at least somewhere, because that Pro controller is really doing nothing for me. However, those Joycon are just [chef's kiss]
Love the joycon, but I’m not in the market for more controllers. If I were to get an Oled I would get this one. But that’s unlikely
My money is on 2023. Every other year there’s a new Switch SKU joining the family. Also, the positioning of BOTW 2, we could see an announcement come January like the launch Switch. If not January, then this time next year there’ll be some kind of announcement for some new Switch.
I really dig those Joy-Con. It annoys me when Nintendo limits them to these special editions, though. Why can't I purchase these or the Animal Crossing ones individually for $80? I ordered a pair of used Animal Crossing ones on GameStop's website since that was the only way to get them, and they arrived with chipped paint. I asked for them to send me a other pair, and they ALSO had chipped paint. They gave me a full refund and I got to keep both pairs, but I never use them because they look gross.
my day one switch started making a weird rattle when the fan turns on, I think I may need to get this.
Looks great. I want it but just don’t have the funds.
My wife said the only way we're getting a Switch OLED is if they do a Splatoon edition. Well, here it is. Lol
And this is why I am waiting on BOTW2 before I get an OLED switch. Those joycons look nice though.
@BartoxTharglod
The joy cons are sexy but I always play docked with a pro controller, the rare time I play portable I use the Hori Split Pro controllers
yes...i will get these. they have the kind of flair to them that make my want to say wow. and on the other hand they are exactly what i want.
@BTB20 @RubyCarbuncle @Bret @Bizzyb just personal thought from what I see and my current mood which one is a bad atm.
Looks pretty slick, but I'm good with the OLED I've got already.
@zackflair05 oh no... gundam comes out that day... then again you're just not worth it.
I've never given Splatoon a try, nor am I a fan (yet?), but I'll be g** d*mned if I don't want this setup. I wonder how those joy-cons would look with a white OLED model.That's so slick.
If the current "gen" wasn't so close to what the industry standard considers "end of life", I'd buy this. I'm just scared I'll buy it and it'll be obsoleted by the rumored "pro" model (gosh, I hate that "pro" moniker thrown around these days!)
@SViper But it had (if I'm even reading it right) absolutely nothing to do with the article you commented it on.
I'm so glad this is the one being released! I have no interest in it (tho the joycons ARE cool) and with the economy the way it is I won't feel badly that I can't in good conscience buy a new system.
Happy for those who love and want it and happy for me.
@ChromaticDracula It wouldn't look different at all. The only white parts of the OLED model are the joycons and dock. This special edition swaps out those two components.
Cool idea... holding out for a BOTW2 model though...
Taking down the prior switch videos just for this new variant
Holding out for a pokemon version.
@ChromaticDracula
I can kind of understand how the whole 'pro' name started since there was the ps4 pro after all and calling it 'new switch' would be as confusing as it was back on 3ds (though i preferred "super switch" since it fits in with things like the SNES)
eventually it just kind of became some catch-all term since i saw people referring to the OLED model by that name when it was announced.
i am hoping some form of successor whether it be a new3ds situation or fully backwards compatible switch 2 since i love most things about the switch but wish it didn't feel like such a gamble when it came to performance.
So it doesn’t come with the game?……..oh
@Orokosaki Outside of the decals, its not really suggesting much of a splatoon theme to me. White just isn't a colour that I think is really associated with splatoon, rather i think its like that so people know "this is still an OLED model" and not a careful decision behind the design. Same goes for the joycon, a gradient colour isn't suggesting spltoon much since the ink is a single colour - which a gradient isn't quite suggesting to me. Add to that the backs of the joycon are also white, which clashes horrendously with the neon colours... it just doesn't look like a very nice design, gonna be honest.
Decals do add to the splatoon vibe I guess. But its kinda... dull? They don't stand out too much I feel.
@Bret new Pokémon trailers comes usually same time as this came, so instead at 4 PM my time seeing Pokémon trailer to be shadow dropped I saw this... So it took the time spot of what I expected. So it would be unrelated if Nintendo no more owns Pokémon and I didn't hear anything about that...
Is there a way for me to only get the Joy-Cons and not the system as well because GOOD LORD those are probably the best themed Joy-Cons we've had since the Skyward Sword HD ones.
Other than that though, I do really like the look of it and I'm highly interested in that Pro Controller (something that does actually come separately). Great stuff all around.
looks lovely! wonder if it will be available in UK...
@Matl I can see where you’re coming from I guess.
Well it looks nice, but I don't collect consoles or need a new Switch for my TV.
I didn't get the OLED because I wanted a limited edition console. I'm definitely going to get this console.
It looks amazing! I just wish I could afford to upgrade LOL
I am going to try and preorder the Pro Controller though
People don't know the difference between ink and paint. You shoot ink in Splatoon, not paint.
You know what, I low-key like this Splatoon 3 Edition. The colours on those Joy-Cons pop, the designs on the dock and the actual Switch are pretty sick and that Pro Controller is 👌🏾
Holy *****- well I was waiting for a cool version of the OLED model to appear before upgrading and I think this is the version for me! Still would've preferred a Yoshi version but this is still SUPER hype.
@SViper I see. It was a little random though lol
@SViper Monkey D. Luffy level stretch here. Pokemon is fine. I promise you'll see a direct soon. Recent Pokemon Presents have been in February and August too, not just June.
There ya go, "leakers," there's your new SKU lmao
That looks really nice.
As a big Splatoon fan, the only thing I don't like about this is the paint splatter graphic they slap everywhere. Splatoon has some great stickers, graphics, and fake brands, and they're all so clean. Covering them up with the Nickelodeon style blots is a waste and SO much physical Splatoon merch is like this.
The joycon are the best looking part of this bundle because they were spared.
@abbyhitter Viscosity seems wrong for ink... Inkling or not, I'm pretty sure what they're shooting is paint.
@Bret oh crap, for whatever reason I was thinking the OLED was all white 🤦♂️. Whoops
@Mgalens I'm with you here... They'd have to be out of their minds to not make the next "Switch" backwards compatible. I'd love for the next one to be 3DS compatible too: Some kind of bluetooth connection or something that allows the Switch to act as the bottom screen of the 3DS and the TV act as the top screen.
We'd be able to play games like Etrian Odyssey on the TV!
But yeah, I think it'd be cool to have a "Super Switch" name or something like that; anything other than Pro (even though if they used the Pro moniker, people would know exactly what it is without much market explaining; no confusion i.e. Wii and Wii U)
I understand how and why the Pro term is used.. (heck it's even used for iPhones 😫)
Finally, a nice paint job for a Switch that goes beyond the standard gray & gold decals or the stock colors of Mario & Pikachu (which also look cool btw). Love the gradients & unique look of the artwork. Totally makes sense for this game and hope they do it more in the future!
Very Nice looking , but why price in dollars? the video is from Nintendo Europe, I would expect Euro price. Now how much is it in GBP....as I be in Blighty
@ChromaticDracula Super Nintendo Switch
I suppose all the Switch PRO enthusiasts are banging their heads against the wall now! Hahahahaha. Looks great by the way, hopefully they'll do the same for BotW 2.
Best looking joy-cons so far and the dock looks pretty good too, wish Nintendo would have released more color-ways in this style.
@ChromaticDracula I wish! But nope. As black as any other switch's main body. I do wish they'd switch that part up once in a while. No pun intended.
@Bret Black with Splatoon details all over the back. So nicely different but yes still with the color black.
@B_BIackNinja_N We were talking about the base white OLED model. The splatoon details on the back of this one are sweet though
Heha, yes. I was waiting for a Splatoon 3 theme pro controller. The dock doesn't look half bad either. Would like to get my hands on both when they are released. ^^
@Bret Oh rip my B. I would have loved a solid white one to match the dock of the original OLED too.
I'm loving this design. I might get it ... have 6 Switches already so it's a big maybe. Wish I could justify a 7th 🤣
PERFECT. I was saving for an oled, so I'll definitely get this one
I've been wanting to upgrade to an OLED and this is going to be how I do it! I also need a new Pro Controller so this will do too!
Available to preorder, when?
@adam9431 I wish I could justify a 2nd.
The Pro Controller is way overpriced with a $75 price tag. 😖
Those Joy-Cons look lovely from the front. Such a great colour scheme.
My daughter absolutely loves Splatoon. Probably her favorite game on Switch. She cannot wait for S3 to drop in Sept. I showed her this and she was in full 😍🥰 mode! Hopefully they won’t get all bought up by scalpers before people can buy them.
That whole set looks great. If I hadn't already upgraded to OLED earlier this year, I'd be all over this Splatoon one. Might have to snag the controller and/or carrying case.
@SViper Why did you expect a Pokemon showcase in the first place? Your worries are completely unwarranted.
Just so you know, the Pokemon Company belongs one third each to Nintendo, Gamefreak and Creatures Inc.
I'm sick and tired of this bs. Nintendo sheep will buy anything Nintendo throws at them it seems, even if it's disgustingly underpowered for today's standards. I hope more third party developers just boycott the Switch until Nintendo actually starts caring about the quality of their hardware. Heck, some games are already backing out from releasing on the Switch even though they said they would.
@Jeronan,
Fingers and toes crossed.
I might see if I can sell my current pro controller and snag that Splatoon 3 one. If I can’t it’s no biggie, I can do without it.
@FX102A
Why be worried? You made the decision to buy the OLED, so why should that result in you wishing for the worst for docked players who just want a better Switch?
I'm just not sold on any of it except for the Joy-Cons, which I don't want.
I don't know why Nintendo seem to be having such difficulty designing special edition Pro controllers and Switches. The MHR Sunbreak is decent but not great, and all the other ones they've come out with just look anemic, like they were knockoffs. This is Nintendo, their designs should be bold and colorful and more Nintendo-y. This is the company that gave us gold Wiimotes for Zelda, translucent Atomic Purple GBCs and the stunning Aqua 3DS. I don't know what happened.
@JazzyBeat Cos I’m only going to care about my circumstances and my decisions; everyone else is no concern of mine what they decide. Especially someone who froths at the mouth because people have different viewpoints as to what they seek in a game console.
Yes, pretty and slick. As a fact, I can't believe Nintendo is finally releasing more Game + Console bundles. They were so common on the 3DS era, even Wii U had a lot of these!
But I'm still waiting for something else from Nintendo :/
@FX102A Yea, fair point. Still, I hope you're dead wrong about no upgrade incoming for the people that actually care about the quality of the product and are not willing to shell out for the underwhelming OLED.
Not the oled style I'd buy even though i like the Splatoon series. I don't have the OLED yet, still on my launch day original baby.
Wonder if we can preorder this???
well...this is one way to get me to upgrade. still using my splatoon 2 edition switch. I really want that oled model...bah.
What many people don't know is that this new console is going to be backwards compatible with all Nintendo Switch games.
They better make those joycons available individually
Can't wait for the game to drop
Switch Pro is still on track and happening, most likely early 2023.
Rumors: Switch Pro is coming soon!
Nintendo: Nope, Switch OLED.
Rumors: Switch Pro is really coming this time!
Nintendo: Nope, Switch OLED again.
@RubyCarbuncle most likely, because it came from bad sleep and first hour after wake up.
@Bret I know how it works and I didn't said I waiting for Direct/Presents, because those are informed from 1 to 5 days ahead unlike trailers. And 2021 started give information in August due Remake was just side project which was for first time given to other company when comes to Main Line/Core games and the game by real Main Line/Core game of Pokémon came 10 weeks later then usual, plus BDSP is remake to begin with, so that's why second news for it came at August, so BDSP and PL:A marketing cycle doesn't apply and to apply them you need remember that PL:A came 10 weeks later then usually Main Line/Core games come.
@BTB20 I didn't said I waiting for Direct/Presents, because those are informed from 1 to 5 days ahead unlike trailers. Plus you just told information that I know for long time, but I guess thanks for information I know. xD
@Switch_Pro
That leak seems spotty at best.
I can't help laugh as I read through the comments that there was another Switch Pro rumour out there, and it was quantified by a "new" model set for release today. Of course, that's the bait everyone took with the red box update and then the OLED. A lesson to all media and rumour mongers: A new model in the works doesn't automatically it's a Switch Pro! The Switch Pro is dead. It was never alive. The new Switch models have been consistent with everything Nintendo has done in the past: cosmetic or themed versions, and iterations.
People are still waiting for a Switch Pro after almost 8 YEARS?! Seriously?!
All that window dressing for drifting joycons. Oh Nintendo...
The blue and yellow remind me too much of the fortnite NSW colors...I wish they stuck with the neon pink and neon green color palette
@blindsquarel It isn't a "leak", it's happening and you know it. It just makes sense. Nintendo will try to recreate the Switch launch with Zelda in 2023.
This looks like a damn fine edition, sadly I'm not a Splatoon player. I'll hold on to my Wallet and hope for a Pokémon Violet/Scarlet Edition instead. That would definitely be a buy for me, since I'm still looking to replace my old Switch for an OLED model.
Man those are beautiful... too bad I don't much care for them thar Splatoons, boy howdy.
@JazzyBeat Nintendo has been supplying the "underpowered console" for 21 years. Gamecube. DS. Wii. 3DS. Wii U. Switch. Every one of them underpowered compared to what Sony and Microsoft were doing. Saying Nintendo doesn't "care about their hardware" is asinine. They know exactly what they're doing, and created three of the most beloved consoles of all time while doing it.
@Switch_Pro [citation needed]
@DK-Fan 8 years?! Wanna take a second look at that calendar, bud?
@HalBailman Yup. The closest things we have to a "pro" edition of a Nintendo console are arguably the DSi and New 3DS XL. I'd say the latter definitely does count as a "3DS Pro", but that's a deviation from the norm, not necessarily a new rule.
@Slowdive hey, slowdown hotshot, I'm writing this down on my invisible type writer! And by "everyone", you do mean the tiny, tiny minority of Nintendo users that like to b!TCH about senseless stuff on sites like these? Then you're right hahahahaha
It's purty and summery.
@Bret Sorry, instead of Nintendo not caring about their hardware, I should say they don’t care about their 3rd party games. Ffs, gaming now and back then is leagues apart in terms of how much of a difference hardware makes for game developers. I hope more game developers back out from making AAA games for the Switch instead of releasing crappy and inferior ports of them. They’re an eyesore. If you don’t see that as a problem then idk what to say.
@JazzyBeat Then be wordless, I guess. It's not a problem. People have been claiming Nintendo will die from lack of third party support for as long as I've been old enough to read gaming news. It's never going to happen. Nintendo has confidently walked its own path and identified itself based on its strong first party IPs for decades. I also don't know why you consider a game being ported onto the Switch to be an eyesore when the alternative is the game not being on the Switch. Obviously the game being playable is the better outcome, even if it's a worse version of the game compared to the PS5/XBSX. You have a really spiteful outlook. If what you care about is AAA third party games in ultra-HD at 60 FPS, I have two other consoles to recommend to you.
@Switch_Pro
No, I don’t think a pro will happen. They just released the oled a year ago and are now marketing a new oled version. Nintendo is already having trouble getting supplies for the current switch, so why would they try to release a new model. I will say that I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo announced a switch successor for mid to late 2023, but they won’t release a pro.
Also, nice username.
@blindsquarel Switch Pro and Switch 2 are pretty much synonymous in my eyes. They won't release a system that deletes their previous userbase, they will want a smooth transition, it won't be a clear cut generational leap, more like Gameboy to Gameboy Color. I would be surprised if they said "none of these games will work on a regular Switch".
@Switch_Pro
Of course the switch successor will have backwards compatibility. Well unless Nintendo decides to go the route of a home console instead of a hybrid. But a new generation can still have backwards compatibility.
@blindsquarel Yes, but my point is that the games will still work on the regular Switch, so that's where "Pro" comes into the equation, it won't be a completely clear cut new generation where none of the games play on the previous models. Of course eventually the old systems will be phased out, but I wouldn't be surprised if the regular Switch is still relevant in 2026.
Calling it now, the most scalped version of the Nintendo Switch, yet.
@Switch_Pro I think that would be like saying the 3DS is still relevant. It exists but it's not relevant. I don't have any belief the original Switch will be relevant 4 years from now, but it's a theory I'll be somewhat happy to be wrong about and somehow really disappointed, all at the same time.
I wonder when the production of this game started. Like, Prime 4 still hasn't a trailer....
@Switch_Pro
I don't see why Nintendo has to "phase out" the Switch in favor of newer hardware. Like it or not, the Switch will sell regardless of its specs, as long as new games are being released for it. In the past, Nintendo found it necessary to upgrade to newer hardware for one reason or another, but now that the Switch is in a comfortable place in the industry and doesn't have significant competition coming from any other companies, I don't see why Nintendo has to ever abandon the old install base. It's different for Microsoft and Sony, because they are in stiff competition and each have to bring something new to the table every generation, lest they be left behind and overtaken by the other company. Nintendo, having carved their own niche in the industry, doesn't need to worry about this. Plus, as the game library grows, it becomes more and more risky for other companies to challenge them. If they were to move onto a new generation, this advantage would be gone.
