I had trouble getting into it at first, but eventually it grew on me and got to love the characters. Was definitely more challenging than the 3DS titles too. Though in the end after playing so much, grabbing and max levelling all the jobs and characters the final boss keeled over like a bridegroom-to-be on his stag-do with rowdy mates.
The final job’s skill to automatically take out lower combined with bait for chain battles and some levelling up gear saw me level up the final 20+ levels in like an hour tops.
Being I believe purely shm’up based machine, I’m game.
Although I’d only use it up on a TV so wonder if this is really the right machine for me? Then again, I had hoped some of the titles in the original Astro City would see releases on other platforms and thats yet to happen.
I haven’t watched the series since Master Quest and even that was the occasional episode. Johto League Championships was the last I watched the lot.
I was tempted to go back and watch XY & XYZ as people were telling me the series matured a bit with higher stakes and Ash acting a bit more maturely like he’d hit 13 and learnt from his years of “journeying”. But I didn’t get, strangely it was how everyone spoke to their pokeballs to “have a good rest” after EVERY return that had my eyes rolling so many times they risked falling out.
Guess its time to load up Deku Deals and have a whizz through. Probably will finish in half the time I’d spent scrolling through the eShop itself.
I already have a few titles on sale I want to pick up today like Romancing Saga 2 & 3.
I also hope the Mega Man Zero collection goes on sale again soon. Decided to skip earlier this month and now listening to the soundtrack makes me want to fire them up. Unfortunately my Analogue Pocket ain’t reaching me till January.
I only got so many hours left of my life to spend it trekking through entire game lengths again and again because of one screw up or lack of clairvoyance.
Bought all prior titles and will continue here. Whilst not as great as the Zero / ZX games, the series fills a niche I feared lost to time.
Glad about the choice of VO’s, for a moment I feared a return to Megaman ZX Advent and its awful English dub. Which reminds me, can you choose Japanese Voice Acting on ZX & ZX Advent on the Zero Collection?
The man leaves the surly bonds of earth with a legacy that he will be remembered by.
Despite being my first console, I must admit I have trouble going back to the NES, despite it giving me many hours of joy back in the day. However the SNES and its games are timeless to me and to this day I continue to make my way through titles I missed either through original carts or rereleases / ports.
You accomplished great things Masayuki-san, you can rest now.
Was interested as could set one up at my parents’ during visits. But the adaptor and HDMI is not included so price is likely to reach near £100. I don’t think so.
As usual, doing a back and forth between a JRPG and a more action-oriented title.
JRPG: Gotten back to Bravely Default 2. 95+ hrs in I’ve gotten the 1st “Bad Ending” and now learnt there is a 2nd “Bad Ending” to get before I can get the last job and attain the “Good / True Ending”.
Action: Started Doom Eternal. Was enjoying it until it crashed and couldn’t be bothered going back to see how much progress was lost. Its decent, but honestly I kinda prefer its predecessor in terms of setting and gameplay.
Games planning to return to: FFVII Remake, Nier Replicant, Monster Boy & Trails of the Sky II.
Whilst Triforce Heroes could have made my top 3, I’ve never played it so can’t count it.
Spirit Tracks remains my most disappointing. After 2 attempts I just can’t get myself to finish it. The train travel mechanics is dull, frustrating, restrictive and slows the whole game down. Especially annoying for me when the overworld was always my favourite part of a Zelda game; much more than the dungeons.
@Dethmunk Thats why they have different categories, although I’m with you in that viewpoint.
Whilst I don’t deny the skill involved to find and exploit glitches, I hold No-Glitch Speedruns much more highly than those that use them as the player has used his/her skills to beat the game within the confines of the creators’ rules and boundaries. Its a bit like comparing 2 people who completed a Marathon, but the one with the faster time used a teleporter or some other exploit that wasn’t covered by the rules and won on a technicality.
Prices start at around £75 on eBay. As much as I’d love to own one, this will remain a dream until Nintendo drop the nostalgia-fuelled BS and offer us the superior offering.
Already got my wired and wireless Retro-but Saturn pads. Also I preferred the SNES pad to the MD’s so more than happy to play MD games (should I ever upgrade my sub) with the SNES pad (I know sacrilegious to some people!)
Starting to feel that members of Mercury Steam really saw this as a labour of love.
Although still slightly bitter at NLife spoiling Kraid’s appearance when they plastered him right on the article’s thumbnail. Would have loved to have had a blind surprise whilst playing.
A price drop would be nice. I share a family account with just 2 of us, but adding the Expansion would triple the cost for each of us. Can’t help but feel that many people were using family accounts for small numbers and Nintendo wanted more individual memberships.
As much as it is rather devious to release them separately; I would end up being part of the problem and gladly buy all 3 separately as I prefer it to collections. Of course they then could at least offer each at a budget price (haha yeah right!)
Except Metroid Prime is probably the one game I’d gladly kneel down and kiss it’s slippers.
This is starting to remind me of the Lost Planet EX Troopers and how it also never came Westwards; something about how the text were actually images and so entire segments would have to be recreated to incorporate a new language.
I can only hope some other company out there comes to Level 5 and offers to localise. Would definitely buy.
I had a tempered glass protector on my original Switch but after a couple of years it developed a crack in the corner that grew and grew until it become unsightly. So I removed it and used it without a protector for the last 2 years and no issues. I just lower and raise it out of the dock carefully and place it in its case when not docked and not in use. So when my OLED arrived and definitely after hearing about removal of a screen protector can remove its outer film, I chose not to bother.
Besides, every screen protector I’ve had on my phone has always been damaged at some point requiring it’s removal and replacement.
The only one I am truly interested in is Musha. Have it on my Wii but would like it on a newer platform. Although not enough to drop what the uptick in cost being asked.
Didn’t vote because there was no “middle ground” answer for those that played it. Overall I enjoyed playing Other M although ultimately Si found it forgettable as I’ve never had the desire to re-experience it.
Although the gameplay was gimped by the insistence on a Wiimote only control scheme. The story and characterisation of Samus was also too much in the opposite direction. What I’ve been most impressed with Mercury Steam about is that they’ve managed to heavily characterise Samus with emotions and personality in their 2 games without even removing her helmet and barely uttering a word. She’s determined, intrigued about her past, understanding, caring yet can loose herself to anger.
Other M put a bit too much of the whining mimsie into her characterisation. They could have easily have made portrayed Samus suffering from PTSD, except it felt more like they were portraying a completely different character suffering from PTSD.
Oh and the Power Bomb mechanic to finish one of the late game bosses was purely bad game design. After a whole game having your abilities locked and only explained how to use it at the start, you are expected to know it’s now unlocked, remember how to use it and all in a smalll time limit before dying if you don’t. Whoever thought that up should have been forced to clear their desk.
If true, this is basically what I’ve been saying to many VC proponents. Now I would love a VC “to buy” option for select titles, but as the Wii U’s VC offerings were far lower than the Wii U’s it became apparent sales were not great. In fact I bet only a dozen or so titles (the big hitters) probably ended up turning a profit.
Honestly though, Musha Aleste is really the only MD title I want to play. Hopefully it becomes available through another method. Maybe via a second Aleste Collection.
Yeah sorry Nintendo. I usually try to find a way to justify things like this but not this time. Not interested in Animal Crossing one iota and don’t play online so the service was purely for the classic games. The family plan has also increased immensely and it’s only across 2 systems for me. I ain’t paying like £60; more than twice my current.
Come back when you remove Animal Crossing BS from the price and stop forcing us to pay for stuff we don’t want. I can only hope subscription numbers collapse and the exec who thought of this gets handed the cardboard box.
Oh and Nintendo Life, yeah that subtitle may be technically true but it doesn’t add value for everyone. Frankly they could include a life size statue of your favourite Animal Crossing character programmed to say your name as part of the membership and it would still be worthless to me.
That reminds me that I do kinda miss the hold down button for a 45 degree upwards aim. I’m sure glad they’re weren’t many sequential grapple beam swinging moments.
Although I bought mine mainly for the better battery as the launch version’s is sapped away so quickly, the screen has really impressed me with its increased size and vibrancy. Honestly would struggle going back now.

You say screenshots and videos will be readable but what about games on the Micro SD card? Do I need to delete them from the card and redownload them? Also I hope all saved games are stored on the console; better do a cloud save first.
Okay I haven’t read the review, just the summary points and score. I want to go into the game knowing as little as possible.
My only concern is the mentioning of “mandatory stealth” (a feature I believe is purely detrimental to game design and offers no positives). Are these instant game overs when spotted? Or can you try to escape but it’s all a “c*ck up cascade” so basically just a drawn out game over? Or do you actually have the chance to escape and hide once more within the confines of a reasonable challenge?
@kepsux Basically, the game is actually running on a sever somewhere and you are remotely controlling the game from your console. Basically imagine your Switch is just a controller and monitor and the actual console is in another town / country / continent that you connect to via the internet.
I don’t think you need to pay for NS Online, but you have to pay for what is basically a pass to access the game. But when they turn the server off, that’s it. Access completely gone.
I was once a big fan of the series, but after Kingdom Hearts 2 it started to go downhill and become more incomprehensible (Birth by Sleep was good though). Also Sora started to annoy me more as it felt like he became even more childish in the later games whilst in KH2 there were signs of growing maturity. KH3 remains one of my biggest disappointments in gaming.
I actually was somewhat interested in replaying the older titles on Switch as it’s been so long but not on cloud versions and their glorified rentals.
As stated, Apple makes its money from its cut from purchases on the App Store and In-App purchases (i.e Microtransactions). A better comparison would probably be with Valve or Epic.
If anything this just goes to show how lucrative the mobile game market can be, but like everything the market is already pretty bloated so unless you come up with something new that captures the general market, anyone thinking of jumping on the bandwagon now is likely to see failure.
It also makes you think more about what methods are used to make so much money. The size of the market through phone users is one thing, but I’ve tried enough mobile games to see that they really do use every single trick in the book to try and entice people to spend as much money as they can, whilst the word “ethical” is but piss in the wind.
I’ve avoided trailers to keep as much of the experience fresh; would you say it feels close to Samus’ Return in presentation rather than say Other M (the last big Metroid game Nintendo pushed)?
My biggest beef with this game was that cheat in Stunt Mode where if you pressed pause just when you were about to hit the water after doing a stunt, you earned a boat load of points at the end as long as you did no more stunts. When I was in birding school, someone brought their N64 and this in and once this cheat was discovered almost everyone did it to get the top score. Made it all real boring to watch.
Overall I was disappointed. I wish Nintendo would stop wasting time on these directs either showing already released trailers for games we already know are coming out, or telling us that info on games will be revealed in a future direct. That’s what press releases are for!
Almost Everything else was for games I don’t have interest in or already know about. Possibly the highlight was the Actraiser remake.
Possibly the most embarrassing thing to admit is that I was excited about was when the final trailer started I thought we were getting some military themed exclusive title; but soon I started to conclude it was likely Bayo 3. Still excited on its release for those who are fans.

It may have lacked the variety of the PS2, but it had some of the Generation’s greatest titles in my opinion.

Paper Mario TTYD
Tales of Symphonia
MSG Twin Snakes
To name but a few. My GCN collection remains relatively small but each game I own is filled with memories.
