@Varkster That’s kind of what was going through my mind. Whilst Nintendo has always delved into experimenting and new ideas, the fact that their titles provide a source of income over a long period lets its development teams perform their experiments (which could lead nowhere) rather than be forced to makes games that can be pumped out quickly but offer little uniqueness. Of course even Nintendo went through a bit of rehashing in the past; New Super Mario Bros. Springs to mind.
I’m starting to think this may be why Nintendo is in no rush to pump out new games in quick succession. Just a few of its titles just rake in the dough and continue to do so for months if not years.
Bought Doom & Doom 2 on sale a while back but honestly didn’t go down to well with them. Maybe they’ve aged a bit more than I expected or I’m just not good enough to use dual analogue in a game with Hit Scan weapons. How does Doom 64 compare in that regard?
Honestly, despite the cheaper than chips price I still wouldn’t get it. I don’t buy these “Uber deals” unless it’s a game I have some interest in trying. Otherwise it sits there doing nothing, like so many past Steam sale purchases. Then once you rack up enough, you notice that those small amounts of cash add up into pretty big piles. So best just not to start.
Of course if you got the time and want to give it a shot, then of course go nuts!
I can’t see this being done without a serious overhaul. Several stages were built around the dual screen system especially to reach some of the high scores. Unfortunately it was a game very much crippled by the insistence of its control system. With some practice I was able to get better but I still always felt the dual screen system merely created an unnecessary problem. About the only way it would truly work is by using a VR headset.
Honestly, I’d love them to give Bandai Namco and Project Aces a shot. May be a little less on-rails 3D shm’up like but an arcade flight sim style Star Fox? Can totally get behind that.
I don’t consider the game itself to be a bad idea (partner company notwithstanding) but the way it was teased and announced practically cursed the game in the eyes of many and implies that the Pokemon Company don’t know their current audience.
Need to get back into it; I went away after discovering a side quest where you can choose to give one of two items with the harder to find one resulting in a better outcome. Unfortunately, the game locks you into the route for whichever item you get first, even if before you access the quest.
I hear this has been like this since the original release though I guess I accessed the quest before getting enough items. Likely to just ignore the whole quest now as like 2 hrs since my last save.
I enjoyed Doom 2016 on the Switch more than I expected. Yes it ran at 30 FPS and the graphics were a tad blurry but honestly I didn’t care. It played well and I was able to play it in bed and on a flight. My only issue was it ate my Launch Switch’s battery life up.
I really need to buy a Switch with the updated battery.
I remember buying the last one’s special edition (released on 3DS) back during my mass collecting days but never opened it. I ended up selling it as Mario Maket taught me I’m not one for creation.
My biggest issue with this game was how foliage did squat with regards to camo and thus your optical camo was your only option, that would automatically disable when you so much as sneezed. This game needed silent takedowns; even if using one drained a large chunk of battery.
Boy, I thought he’d at least have a barely understandable reason for his frustrations, like the company being completely inept with zero cares towards it history, properties and staff.
There’ve been enough attacks over all sorts of reasons for the Japanese police to take this seriously.
Although if he wants to blow off some steam maybe let him loose with a sledgehammer in one of Konami’s Pachinko storage warehouses after staff have left?
Nothing super excited about. Will see how Paper Mario is like but I still have to finish the first 2 games in the series, despite no connections.
Guess it’s time to hunt the backlogs; although I believe there’s a Japanese release of Air Missions Hind for Switch that is multi-language; May pick that up.
Also somewhat a step in the right direction for the Sega Ages line in offering titles that have never been re-released before and are not easy to get hold of now.
On the other hand, Sega remains most well known among longtime Sega fans for their arcade style games, of which a lot of their post-16 Bit back catalogue remains locked away to many people. Having not released such games for so long, I'm starting to wonder if there are actual technical issues.
As a big JRPG fan (especially those with anime art style) I’ve really wanted to get into this series yet was convinced by a friend to start with the 3 Trails of the Sky games. The issue is I’ve started the first game twice and honestly I find it so slow and dull. Only just left the first area though but still. The battles are an annoyance as it’s a grid style and so time is wasted just advancing to enemies to attack. Tempted to just start from Cold Steel I on the PS3/4/V (yet to figure out which one to play; would love cross save but I head the 4 version has extras).
@TG16_IS_BAE There’s a difference between re-releasing a game that was previously exclusive to arcade hardware or has becoming ultra rare/expensive, and one that was released on a console not too long ago and is still relatively easy to pick up now.
Also transferring video to a new media is different in terms of workload to porting games as greater harmonisation with the architecture is needed. Ports can be great, but just like everything else there comes a time when you have to question if certain ports are really needed and whether they do more harm than good in tying up resources. I agree that every Wii U port is fair game as the console was a dud and many people missed out on it. However Wii titles, with the exception of some expensive titles like Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime Trilogy, etc, it’s not hard or expensive to acquire the hardware and software (if you really want to play). Plus the fact that the Switch doesn’t use motion controls by default means every port requires reworking as well as a graphical update.
Obviously, they were going to be restricted as they could hardly show new content, still I feel this represents a case of a non-issue growing into a major one; over abundance of Nintendo ports especially those not really needed and this feeling upon some fans that every major Nintendo title under the sun should be ported to the Switch. I could understand the Wii U ports as they were tied to an ultimately unsuccessful platform, but 2 of the Zelda games have already been released twice and many of these games aren’t hard to get a hold of these days.
Again, I’m not digging against the trailer as they were always restricted to what footage they could get, but when watching it started to make me think that it could represent the excessive previous gen port begging we seem to be witnessing recently.
For some time I’ve felt that if a major Japanese publisher (with Nintendo kinda being an exception) hyped up a “big announcement” it is likely to be something far below expectations or a rerelease or a mobile game. They want word to spread and will lead you with a carrot and stick all the way even if they know you’ll be disappointed.
Is this game still heavily active? I can’t help but feel publishers of these live service battle competitive multiplayer games port onto the Switch when updates are slowing down or the game’s popularity is waning. When Overwatch had released on the Switch, the game had started to drop from its lofty heights.
This weekend I just want to play games with a positive, fulfilling, almost hero-like vibe. Anything with a section with a powerful soundtrack that makes you feel like you are accomplishing something good for the world and mankind! (Like the opposite of this week’s popular gaming choice, or maybe that’s an effect from binge watching My Hero Academia).
Want to finish Blaster Master Zero, though just got to chapter 7 and I just wish game designers would just stop forced stealth from action games. If you want to change things up, stop choosing the antithesis of the game. I now remember why I stopped playing last time but this time I’m gonna push through.
After that, thinking of me plugging in the Wii and firing up The Last Story; only one of the 3 Op Rainfall games I’ve yet to play.
Recall watching Chaotic Century on TV and Genesis via fansubs. Could have potential, my main concern however is always that most emphasis is based on the customisation and no. Of parts over the gameplay itself.
Then again, that hasn’t stopped me from raking up more than 50 hrs playing Gundam Breaker 3.
At first was hoping for a military style grand JRPG-style adventure with mechs. First impressions aren’t too grand but will wait and see how it turns out.
I was going to buy several of these from the Nintendo World Store during my honeymoon last year until i got to the cashier and saw the prices. In the end I just got one set of Hanafuda cards. $25 was still steep but I could argue one set as a Honeymoon gift......then I went to Video Games New York and spent around $600
I hope this is the start to seeing the Raiden Fighter Aces Collection being released. The cancelled EU release on X360 still annoys me and the iPhone release was initially terrible and subsequently patched to “barely tolerable”.
At first I thought Transformers Devastation; but the teaser trailer gives off an almost mobile game like vibe with simplistic gameplay or ripe for micro transactions. Of course this is all speculative, could end up being decent.
It was entertaining, but if I was to have one critique it’s actually the very smooth animation of the movement. In slapstick, the sudden, almost jarring movements add to the impact of the comedy. Here it’s kinda lost.
@Paraka @Ninjatiptoes Had to amend my comment as it seems people think i was bemoaning there having been no new Splatoon game in 3 years (Seriously? Quotation marks for a quote that was never there?) First one didn’t do it for me and I don’t even own the second game.

@Damo Not surprised, things over on Push Square devolved quickly after Sony postponed the PS5 reveal event due to these events.
All I'm going to say is I hope the outcome of all this is a positive one and cooler heads prevail as honestly, it can go any one of many directions and some ain't pretty.
Decided to start Xenoblade DE and surprised how hooked I got into it despite having played and finished it already on the Wii years ago. Thought maybe I’d skip many of the side quests and unveiling the entire map but no such luck. On Chapter 3 and still in Colony 9 area.

I have no interest in Animal Crossing, yet I can see the appeal and with record breaking sales, I’m sure the public meta critic score is really hitting Nintendo Hard.
Good to hear, I just hope they’ll release the soundtrack complete on CD in Japan. Still slightly miffed I gotta deal with an oversized frisbee in the LE we’re getting.
