Re: Editorial: Triple-A Third Party Games Will Need Creativity as Well as Marketing for NX Success

ErrantEmbers

Heres the thing. 3rd party games often don't sell well on Nintendo consoles. Multiplat games that reach Nintendo consoles are often the most buggy or the worst of its kind. What Nintendo needs is more exclusive and unique 3rd party game experiences that other consoles don't offer. Resident Evil remake, RE Zero, RE4 all exclusive at first. RE4 is rated as one of the best if not THE best GameCube game. We need exclusive AAA games not sloppy ports of games that released 3 years ago. Ports are ok if they're well ported but let's get more exclusive content on Nintendo consoles. The kind of game that makes PS4 and XB1 owners go "damn I really want that game but its only on the NX. Guess I'll have to buy an NX". Imagine if FF7 remake was exclusive to NX. First there'd be a huge uproar in the Sony community but we all know a good amount of people wanted it, and if their options are either to not play it or buy NX for it, I'd wager about half of those people would buy an NX just for that game. For many people it just takes "that one game" to make someone buy a console they wouldn't have otherwise bought.

@TheHeroOfTime333 My only guess as an explanation is too many people are too young for the Mega Man games. I mean prior to Mega Man 9 in 2008 the last Mega Man game was released in 1997. I think the majority of Nintendo fan's presence is largely in the teens so most people were probably born after MM8 even came out. And likely they find the older games (and 9 and 10) too hard.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Favourite Legend of Zelda Games - 30th Anniversary Edition

Wind Waker is NOT overrated its pretty much a masterpiece. The art style holds up extremely well today, the gameplay is near flawless, as it expanded on OoT's combat, the items are all innovative and fun to use, there is TONS to explore, there are more dungeons than you think... Maybe they're not all labelled as dungeons but there are a good number of dungeons, certainly more than MM. Big number of dungeons doesn't mean better. WW's dungeons were all excellent IMO. Oh and the soundtrack is probably my favorite in the series. I get certain people don't like the changes the game brought but its not overrated its probably right up there with OoT in terms of perfection.

@whodatninja We got Xenoblade Chronicles X, which is amazing btw, and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which is better than the 3DS verison IMO (but sadly not MH4U). Not a very big selection true, but at least not zero.

As far as Bravely Second goes, I can't say I'm super pumped for it. I haven't even finished Bravely Default. I think I'm about 10 hours in and just stopped for unknown reasons. I should probably finish it before getting this. Good to know this one is as good as the first though!

Re: Analyst Firm DFC Believes a 2016 Nintendo NX Launch "Would Be a Mistake"

ErrantEmbers

Here's the thing - Nintendo has 2 options as I see it. Release NX in 2016 with a strong launch line-up and leave Wii U to die as it's been doing, OR put more effort into the Wii U (which likely won't happen) and really crank out the hits and give Wii U owners a fantastic last 18 months or so of great games then release NX next holiday season. One thing that should NOT be an option is for Nintendo to let Wii U die slowly (as its been doing) and wait to release NX in 2017. Something has to happen in 2016 whether it's a really strong final year for Wii U and 3DS or the release of the NX. It's do or die time.

Downloaded the game last night. As a huge fan of Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, DK64, and most of the other N64 platformers, I felt I had to give this a shot. Initial impressions? Not impressed. The controls feel very off, especially the jumping. Camera's worse than Super Mario 64 too. I think it's an okay effort but definitely lack polish. With a little more time and TLC this game could've been good, but as it is, it's just okay. I hoping for better.

Re: 3DS to Continue as a 'Major Pillar' of Nintendo's Business

ErrantEmbers

I dont believe it to be honest. They always say these things at the end of a console's life. At the end of SNES, when everyone was looking forward to N64, they had Mario RPG and Tetris Attack - not that those are bad games - they're fantastic, but i mean theyre just swansongs of a dying console. Same with N64 - COnker's bad Fur Day, Paper Mario and Mario Party 3 - we all knew Gamecube was coming and N64 was dead in 2001 aside from those 3. And GCN and Wii had the same thing. GCN had Twilight Princess, a co-release with Wii, and Chibi Robo. Really nothing else of note. And Wii had what, Xenoblade in 2012? So I don't believe it when Nintendo says their old consoles ill continue to be supported and will still be pillars of the company. Wii U and 3DS will not co-exist with NX. They will be replaced. I'm okay with that but I wish they would be more upfront about it.

Re: Soapbox: A Nintendo Fan's Hopes and Dreams for the NX

What Nintendo needs to do with the NX:
1. Stop with the gimmicks, just make a great console with great games
2. Wii U BC
3. 500 GB hard drive or more
4. ONE controller - stop making all these unnecessary controllers and peripherals
5.A STRONG launch lineup
6. STRONG third party support
7. More Virtual Console availability or some kind of subscription service for it
8. Better Online

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Has Plans to Localise Mother 3 This Year

ErrantEmbers

@wazlon It's fantastic. It's the only game I ever played fully in Japanese, which I can't read. I replayed it when the fan translation came out. Just an excellent game. Earthbound is my absolute favorite game but I can admit Mother 3 is an objectively superior game, and has a wonderful story.

Re: Video: Collecting Every Wii Game Is Difficult, But This Guy Did It Anyway

ErrantEmbers

A full Wii set does look nice but it does beg the question of why do it at all? It seems like it's just something to spend money on and not much else. It's one thing if you plan on playing every game on the system or are really passionate about a particular system (I for one am going for a full N64 set) but Wii has a TON of crapware. Saying only 1/3 of Wii's library is shovelware is probably being very generous. Im inclined to say the Wii's library is closer to 2/3 shovelware. It's also the ONLY Nintendo system I cannot come up with 100 good games I would want to own. The Wii library, to me, is extremely poor, but does have a few very good games.

Re: Review: Final Fantasy Explorers (3DS)

ErrantEmbers

This game sounds exactly like what I expected it to be. A good Monster Hunter clone. I liked MH3 and 4 when I played them but I hated the delay in attacking and that pause your character does when using items/drinking potiions. It made the battles extremely frustrating to me. For those not understanding what I'm talking about, the characters in MH feel like they're moving in slow motion all the time, specifically when swinging a weapon and drinking a potion. When you stop, drink a healing potion, your character does a little stupid pose for a few seconds that leaves you wide open to attacks. Does anyone know if FFE has a similar annoyance?

Re: Editorial: Nintendo and Virtual Reality Aren't a Good Fit in 2016

I can't wait for the day the Nintendo debuts the New Super Virtual Boy Pocket 64 3D Advance!!!

No but seriously I have almost no interest in VR tech right now. I think the Virtual Boy was cool but it was a novelty. VR will still be a novelty today. It won't be big for years to come. It will be big someday but today is not that day.

Re: GDC Survey Shows Declining Interest From Developers in Wii U and 3DS

ErrantEmbers

You don't need stats numbers to tell you that 3DS and Wii U support is close to nonexistent. I could've told you that. I mean how else can you go to any store that sells games and see the exact same games sitting in the Nintendo section months after months while PS4 games constantly get new releases? People don't want to develop for Nintendo consoles. 3DS had a good run but it's old technology now. Wii U never had support to begin with. I'm not sure why this is a surprise to anyone.

Re: Poll: Are You Optimistic About Nintendo's 2016?

ErrantEmbers

"Will the WIi U have a good year?" Lol! The Wii U has not had a single good year. Alright, so maybe we're getting Zelda this year (hopefully) but beyond that what else is there? Star Fox and Pokken? 2016 will be the last hurrah for 3DS I think. I'm more curious about the NX than I am excited. So overall, I've apprehensive about 2016 for Nintendo. At the very least it won't be worse than 2015 though.
