Re: Feature: Reflecting on Time Spent With the Nintendo Switch

ErrantEmbers

@Spoony_Tech I have money saved for the console just in case, just have to sell a few things if I want more games than just Zelda. I'm not as concerned about the money right now since I'm going to spending it on a Switch eventually anyway. But I don't want this to be like Wii U which I bought 2 weeks after launch, played New Super Mario Bros U and it sat and collected dust for nearly a year before I used it again.

Re: Feature: Reflecting on Time Spent With the Nintendo Switch

@Spoony_Tech Kind of my feelings too. I'm completely torn. I want the system now because I love it, but it will likely be a one game system for me at least until Splatoon 2 comes out. I too have a house to pay for, luckily not all on my own, but still even with the help of my spouse and mother in law, houses don't come cheap. But I'm justifying it by selling a bunch of unwanted games so I technically won't have to use any out-of-pocket money. My other concern is the system will be hard to find after launch for the first several months. If I cancel my preorder I could risk not being able to find one for months when it comes time to actually buy one. And nothing kills my hype quicker than something not being readily available. I was pumped for the NES Classic and we all know what happened with that. Now I literally don't even want it.

@Spoony_Tech I'm in the exact same boat. I really love the look and design of the Switch. I love the features it's going to have. I'm really excited for the console itself. But at the same I don't need it right away. I have it preordered but I too am thinking of cancelling. I can buy Zelda on Wii U and it's the only game I'm really really excited for til Mario. I mean if I get the system at launch I'll inevitably pick up Bomberman, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and maybe another title or two to fill the release void. Then again I think there's somethign special about getting a console on release day. I've always gotten Nintendo consoles witihin a month of release but never on release day. There's just something special about having a Nintendo console from the day it releases to watch it grow and see where it goes.

Re: Editorial: Pricing Blunders Have Distorted The Narrative Around Nintendo Switch

ErrantEmbers

I don't find the price to be particularly expensive, I think it's exactly where it should be. But I do think the accessories are expensive, but keep in mind they're all optional. The pro controller is $70, extra joycons are $50 apiece or $80 for a pair, and additional docks are $90. They are expensive but no one is obligated to buy any of them since the console comes with everything you need to use it. I have gotten the sense Nintendo has a very strong sense of pride - almost arrogance - that they think (or know, rather) their brand is worth a premium price and thus will do whatever they want without regard of fitting in and being modern. And this goes not just for their games but just their overall thought process and business structure. It's a very Apple thing of them to do. Apple also feels their products are worth a premium and people pay it.

Again though, $300 for the system is not terrible and I preordered mine. If $300 is too much for the system and not enough games interest you, then wait. There will be more games down the road to justify the price and I'm sure eventually there will be systems with packed-in games or a price reduction.

Re: Rumour: Fire Emblem Fates Could Be Getting A Nintendo Switch Port

ErrantEmbers

I'm not a huge Fire Emblem fan but I played a few of the games including Awakening, which took me a long time to get through but ultimately liked. I held off buying Fates because of the whole 3-episode thing and didn't feel like buying episodes indiviudually to get the whole game. If they release Fates as a complete title on Switch, I will likely buy it.

Re: First Impressions: 1-2-Switch is an Ideal Pack-In Game That's Missing Its Chance

ErrantEmbers

I cannot even count how many people I've seen that say 1-2-Switch not being packed in is a missed opportunity, and they couldn't be more right. Reggie fired back and said "no game is packed in with Switch to keep the cost down" but come on - 1-2-Switch is NOT a system seller and is NOT worth $50. Do you think the Wii would've sold as well if Wii Sports didn't come with it and cost $50? I highly doubt it. Wii Sports was a system seller and it convinced people to buy the system and try out the new technology. $50 for a tech demo is a very steep asking price. HUGE missed opportunity Nintendo.

Re: Breaking Down the Nintendo Switch Online Service Details

ErrantEmbers

It sucks but doesn't affect me entirely. I rarely play online anyway. But now those few times I do play online I gotta pay. So I guess I won't be playing online then.

It really makes me sad how far Nintendo's fallen. Hard to believe they were once the KING of gaming. The Switch looks like a great console but a lot of Nintendo's decisions make me not want one.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Offers Hope for Those Dreaming of Mother 3, Metroid and More on Switch

ErrantEmbers

@BAN I agree 100%. Huge Nintendo fanboy for nearly 30 years, and each console is more disappointing than the last. I seriously had high hopes for the Switch last night as I figured they learned their lesson with Wii U. But after that absymal showing I'm beginning to think it's Wii U all over again. I think they CAN turn it around and make Switch awesome but right now it's looking pretty bad.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Nintendo Switch Presentation?

ErrantEmbers

That presentation was abysmal. I've never been so disappointed by Nintendo as I am right now. It's almost as if they're begging for their fans to go away. To the people that are excited - that's great. I'm happy for you. But personally I don't understand why anyone would want this at launch. I was super hyped prior to this presentation but it's my own fault because I was extremely confident Nintendo would hit it out of the park, but somehow Switch is already making the Wii U look like a home run.
