Re: Review: Hey! Pikmin (3DS)

ErrantEmbers

Sounds like it's exactly as I expected it to be. A forgettable spin off from a beloved franchise. As a big PIkmin fan I will be getting this day 1. I knew it was going to be a dumbed down 2D version of the games and I'm okay with that. Of course I wish it were better but as such it's acceptable enough while I (im)patiently wait for Pikmin 4.

Re: Guide: Where to Pre-Order Your Super NES Classic Edition

ErrantEmbers

Unable to get an NES Classic at all, I had to make sure get on this ASAP. And I got SUPER LUCKY!! I got one!! That said it's so messed up the way these limited releases are being handled. It's like throwing 1 steak to a pack of 100 wolves. "Here you go, here's the thing you all wanted. No fight over it!"

Re: Sydney Hunter and the Curse of the Mayan is Coming to the Nintendo Switch

@setezerocinco It's pretty ironic. For years people wanted games to return to that retro style, and people were excited when side scrollers made a triumphant return but now they're practically being shoved down our throats and we want less retro style games and more 3D and modern games. I just wish the industry would strike a balance between old and new, not all one or the other.

Re: Advance Wars Producer Doesn't Have A Clear Idea For New Entry

ErrantEmbers

Why do they need to put a relationship sim in strategy games? I like Advance Wars because you're dealing with random units instead of individual people. Call me crazy but the whole "bonding" thing of Fire Emblem Awakening and Fates just bogged down the whole experience. I like Advance Wars for the gameplay not the personalities or story.

Re: Rumour: Artwork for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Posted Online

Listen, I get the hate and I personally think the Rabbids games and characters are stupid. But this could be fun, I'm not enthused about it but I'm not discounting it altogether. Hopefully if this is real then at least it turns out halfway decent.

Also? Turtle shelves. Turtle....SHELVES. Heroes in a half shelf.

Re: Playtonic Writer Reflects on Yooka-Laylee’s Performance

ErrantEmbers

I feel horrible in thinking that Yooka-Laylee is a big disappointment. It IS what they promised, yes. But I guess my expectations were too high. I love and adore all N64 platformers, especially the Rare games and Mario 64, but somehow Yooka-Laylee just feels like a cheap imitation of those games rather than a return to form. I just can't place my finger on it, I just don't find it fun. The challenges are annoying and tedious, not fun. The levels are big, almost TOO big and complex, and also not fun. The camera and controls aren't even the issues for me. The game design is just not fun. I say this as a GIGANTIC fan of N64 platformers and Rare's old stuff. Banjo-Kazooie, Tooie, Conker's bad Fur Day, Donkey Kong 64...all absolute classics and most of them are masterpieces IMO. But Yooka-Laylee... Ugh. I really don't know what they could've done to make it better. perhaps Make the levels a bit smaller and make more levels. I put 15 hours into the game and have 1 level left, and I'd say I've only truly enjoyed 1/3 of those hours. The other 2/3 consists of me wandering around aimlessly wondering how the hell do I navigate these levels as well as trying to complete seriously frustrating challenges (mine cart and Rextro's arcade, anyone???) Easily the most disappointing game of 2017 so far.

Re: Hands On: Hey! Read These Hey! Pikmin Impressions

ErrantEmbers

Not super excited about this one despite being a big Pikmin fan. It's not the change to 2D that bothers me, I encourage experimentation. But the control scheme seems so awkward. It's like Kid Icarus Uprising all over again. A good game marred by bad controls.
