Nintendo has recently filed a trademark application for the Nintendo 64 controller in Europe, which given the timing might well indicate that a Nintendo 64 Classic Mini could be in the works for next year.
Such trademark applications have also been filed for the NES controller and the SNES controller, so this logic does seem sound given that we now have a NES Classic Mini and a Super NES Classic Edition is on the way later this year. The 'goods and services' part of the application references physical goods, too, which has boosted hopes further.
What games would you like to see on a Nintendo 64 Classic Mini if this was to come to pass? Let your imagination run wild with a comment below.

That's actually something I wouldn't mind getting. Just for novelty reasons.
Still, I'd rather they just add the games to the virtual console.
Oh my! YES PLEASE !
I mean... I might. If I can get it before the Scalpers buy them all. Then there is not point.
I'd be all over this, especially to get new N64 controllers with analogue sticks that match the originals. All the third party replacement sticks I've seen have been terrible.
whilst I know this isn't confirmation (yet) I am actually surprised as I didn't think the Nintendo 64 was held up as in quite the same way as Nes/Snes...maybe im wrong. but im sure this would do well if they do release it next year I would buy just so I am keeping up with these mini consoles
Personally, I'm not that big of a fan of all of these retro mini consoles... I'd prefer it if they just released the controller as a peripheral for the Switch and bundled it with download codes for the games to get them on the e-shop instead... that way you'd also be able to purchase other games separately and still use the controller to play them.
The only thing on my mind is "pretty please, do something about the controller!" I'm super hyped for the N64 Mini, but how will I hold that tiny, weird controller in my hands? The original gave me blisters enough as it was. #marioparty1neveragain
F-Zero X Expansion Kit from N64DD for the mix and I'm in.
I'd be up for it. Wasn't too in to the NES Mini, but the SNES Mini is something I'm considering... given I can find one. But a N64 Mini would be awesome, that thing would be awesome to mod to have nearly my entire family's n64 library on it.
Now they will be dreaming about being able to buy one at a modest price.
Looks like an icon that fits the switches UI style. Maybe it is VC related... I'd rather have these games on my switch Where I Can take them with me
SNES mini is the biggest must-have of the Minis, NES mini also very cool. Those 2 are the biggest childhood memories from gaming.
N64 was also a part of it, but as long as Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Banjo Kazooie, maybe Diddy Kong Racing too (all Rareware's) won't be on it, I'm not interested. That is since in my opinion Rare even made better games on the N64 than Nintendo themselves.
Assuming they do an N64 mini, I hope they sell the controllers separately, and you're able to do a board swap with the original controllers like you can with the NES Mini ones. Almost brand new N64 controllers in 2017 would be awesome
I think they should do a Game Boy version next. People would lose their minds.
I'd definitely like to see that becoming a reality, even though I still have the original console, but this one would have better video connections...
A sad initial conclusion to make, though: this mini console would be without any of Rare's epic titles that it had, UNLESS Nintendo can strike some kind of deal, but that probably wouldn't be very cost-effective for them.
I'd also expect there to be even less titles on there than the SNES Mini, so it would probably be a safe bet to expect it to have around 15, 16 titles at most. And taking into account the absence of all of Rare's titles, I have come up with this probable list:
Mario Kart 64
Super Mario 64
Smash Bros 64
Legend of Zelda OoT
Legend of Zelda MM
Wave Race
F-Zero X
1080 Snowboarding
Star Fox 64/Lylat Wars
Pilotwings 64
Mario Golf
Mario Tennis
Yoshi's Story
Kirby 64
Pokémon Stadium 2
Pokémon Puzzle League
Alternatively, some of these titles could be replaced by third party efforts, but the list will probably be humble either way.
It would still be a cool list, though, but just imagine how that list would look if Nintendo does manage to strike a deal concerning Rare's games...
@lemonjellydude Zelda, Mario, Pokemon and GoldenEye alone made the N64 THE generation for a tonne of people my age.
I did a US trademark search, but found nothing similar. But interestingly, Nintendo filed for a trademark for Excite Truck about the same time as Super Mario Run. Guessing an ET mobile game is in the works ....
@ThanosReXXX I think you're spot on with that list mate. Such a pity Golden Eye won't likely be on it though Same for Banjo Kazooie, diddy kong racing and perfect dark.
Who knows maybe they'll play nice with rare... maybe.
If it doesn't have at least 5 Rare games I'm not buying.
If they managed to get all the Rare games on this (I know!!!) it would be an essential 'must have' item, without them, it goes down to 'would like'
However, if they did manage to sort out the license issues, forget the N64 mini, get Goldeneye on the Switch as a monthly membership game, with online, on the go..... drool
64 is one of the most overrated machines.
Snes and GCN for teh win.
And I've got the SNES classic mini on two preorders. Yuppee
If they include 30 games on the N64 Mini, these are what I love to see on it and they better be 30 this time as the N64 doesn't have that many games:
Super Mario 64 (Nintendo)
Mario Kart 64 (Nintendo)
Castlevania 64 (Konami)
F-Zero X (Nintendo)
Pilotwings 64 (Nintendo)
Excitebike 64 (Nintendo)
Super Smash Bros. (Nintendo)
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo)
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (Nintendo)
Mega Man 64 (Capcom)
Resident Evil 2 (Capcom)
Bomberman 64 (Konami / Hudson)
Dr. Mario 64 (Nintendo)
Mischief Maker (Treasure / Square Enix)
Harvest Moon 64 (Natsume)
Mario Party 3 (Nintendo / Konami / Hudson)
Donkey Kong 64 (Nintendo / Rare)
Pokemon Stadium (Nintendo)
Ogre Battle 64: Persons of Lordly Caliber (Square Enix)
Paper Mario (Nintendo)
1080 Snowboarding (Nintendo)
Wave Race 64 (Nintendo)
Kirby 64 (Nintendo)
Yoshi's Story (Nintendo)
Star Fox 64 (Nintendo)
Pokemon Puzzle League (Nintendo)
Pokemon Snap (Nintendo)
Sin and Punishment (Treasure / Nintendo)
Mario Golf (Nintendo)
Mario Tennis (Nintendo)
Now if the Rare games made it this I would happily replace them for some on this list.
@bolt05 Thanks. The dreamer in me hopes they would be able to strike a deal, but the realist unfortunately doesn't: this is once again going to be a limited run item, so it needs to be as cost-effective for them as possible, and having to strike deals for separate games will probably cost too much since Microsoft might also want to get their hands on some of the profits, if there are any profits made on these Minis in the first place...
If it somehow through a Christmas miracle were to include Rare games, then holy crap yes please.
@retro_player_22 You can definitely forget about 30 titles. It's is absolutely going to have less titles than the SNES Mini.
VC for Switch delayed to 2019
Blast Corps
Mario Party
Mario Tennis
Sin and Punishment
I need this to happen. Please next year...
@ThanosReXXX We never know, things could change but I will say this. If Nintendo ever release an N64 mini with less than 20 games and all games are only Nintendo games, then I wouldn't buy it. It needs those 3rd party games in there among the Nintendo games for me to be excited.
@retro_player_22 Well, seeing as Nintendo doesn't really seem to care much about it's audience, where these minis are concerned, I'd rather take the realistic stance than the wishful thinking one.
They went from 30 to 21 titles from the NES to the SNES, so logic would dictate that there will be even less titles on the N64 Mini. And taking into account the more than likely absence of all Rare titles, there aren't that many stellar titles left other than Nintendo's own, hence the list I made.
There are some good third party efforts, but they do have to make this device a showcase for what the N64 was, so Nintendo's own titles will obviously come first.
If I got my personal wish, it would just be Mario Kart 64, Wave Race, F-Zero, 1080 Snowboarding and all of Rare's titles, but that's just the dreamer in me...
I wish they would just come on with the Virtual Console for the Switch. This is cool and all, but i don't want to buy a NES classic, SNES classic, and a N64 classic. I would love to have them all on one console I can take and play on the go!
I know there's literally no way of this happening... but seeing as how Star Fox 2 is getting released, and we never expected that an unreleased game from 20+ years ago would see the light of day... what if they somehow put a build of the N64 Mother 3 game on the Japanese N64 Classic? Stranger things have happened. Again, I sincerely doubt it. This is in no way me even holding my breath about it, but it sure is nice to dream. Honestly I would probably do a canon ball off of a bridge as I would die a happy man.
I'm thinking it's actually related to the VC. it could be they plan to re-release those consoles for them to work with the Switch, so it really feels like we're playing the games in their original consoles.
The very thought of this has me super excited but the reality is it would be missing a lot of key gmaes - Diddy kong Racing, Goldeneye, Conker, Banjo, Perfect Dark, JFG... An N64 mini would still be a day 1 purchase for me but it wouldn't be as great as it could've been because of the lack of Rare titles.
gimme gimme gimme!!!!!
@olrodlegacy Yeah, I agree. Even just the original black and white one would still sell a ton, I know I'd still buy one!
@ThanosReXXX
Nice list... only one I can think to add would be excitebike64
N64 Mini with Super Mario 128 confirmed.
Never owned an N64 nor do I hold the games close to me. If they do release one I may get it purely for the novelty and the likelihood that not preoredering one is likely to result in failure to acquire one.
Unless they include Sin & Punishment.
Considering the fact that I never had access to a N64, a Classic edition would be great.
Still waiting for the Game Cube Mini =D
This is the one Classic Mini I wouldn't be mad about. Sure it has some all time greats but not enough to make a N64 Classic Mini. Then there's the headache of Rare. I say this as a lifetime Nintendo fan, who's owned all their consoles, bought 2 NES Classic Mini's and have the SNES Classic Mini reserved. Oh and the N64 games have aged terribly. Only the NES has aged worse.
With how popular and how far into the mainstream, Goldeneye 64 still permeates into pop culture, they might as well not release this if that game isn't on it.
@Kingkon15 That would be fine by me, another good game. Then again: if they use the same hardware as in the previous minis, then I'm pretty sure that this thing could be hacked and ROMs could be added, so each of us can have their own personal favorites on there eventually.
Day one if it is true.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE The absence of Rare would indeed be a big dent in its armor, but as my list in comment #18 shows, there's still plenty of good titles left, so it would not be as bad as you seem to think.
A N64 Classic mini would be cool.
They better strike some sort of deal with the big M$ and get the Rare games in there too!
@bahooney EB64 was nowhere near release. Personally, I'd bet any money on the actual Ura Zelda which Miyamoto said was finished and supposed to be released on the GCN before they pasted the name on OOT Master's Quest which due to plenty of things was discovered to not be the same game.
@ThanosReXXX great list. I'm still playing it with a s-video picture. This will help with tv
I'd rather the Switch get a Virtual Console so I could buy the games there. Having them on a hybrid console sounds much better than just a smaller N64.
Oh my God they are totally gonna do it
iss 2000
I've lost interest in them all honestly. To answer the question, I'm interested, even excited, but when you announce that an item is limited supply in this Age of Scalping, then the only true winners are scalpers. So sad. True fans can't even receive these wonderful "retro thank you's" from Nintendo. Bad job, Nintendo, can't side with you guys on this one.
@UK-Nintendo Thanks. Although I still have my N64, I now play all these games on my modded Wii, that also goes a long way to improving the image quality, but it's a shame that I don't have an N64 controller to use with it, so in that respect alone, a Mini would already make the experience that much better.
Plenty of good N64 games beyond the Rare ones, also on the Goldeneye thing wouldn't it need MGM approval also.
@ThanosReXXX have the same setup on the modded Wii as well virtual console and psp, the list goes on. Image quality is better but original hardware with the n64 controller just does magic to me. Still hooked up to the tv and yes super Mario 64 is still my best 3d mario
I wouldn't be opposed to a N64 mini ... at least not as long as it is not coming at the expense of the Switch virtual console - or more to the point, the probability of such an outrageous idea ever materializing at all, which obviously, is kinda out there as far as ideas go.
There are two problems with a N64 mini.
1. Scalpers.
2. Microsoft.
N64 is my favorite console of all time, I have fond memories of it. But the classics are all Rare, except for Zelda, Mario, Paper Mario and Smash. If they don't put International Super Star Soccer 2000 in it, it will be sad.
To everyone kicking and screaming that Rare games with Nintendo characters won't be on an N64 classic mini because "microsoft owns them now" please, see DK Country on the SNES mini. This means at least Diddy Kong Racing and Donkey Kong 64 are possibilities. Also, who's to say Microsoft hates money? Maybe they'd let Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, and Banjo Kazooie 1 and 2 appear on there for a normal 3rd party fee. Minecraft is on Nintendo products and the two companies have been respectful and complimentary towards one another in public.
@Alikan Since when is Star Fox 64 a Rare title?
@Alikan Nintendo own the DK characters that's why.
Can we just get Mario Party 3 and Diddy Kong Racing already?
Wrestling games, please.
Honestly, I was kind of annoyed when the SNES mini happened, and with it also including the unreleased Star Fox 2, which is great and all now that we can properly play it but I really felt like the SNES mini didn't have to exist.
But the N64 mini, that's something that would get me excited, I'd assume it'd probably only have 8-12 games and retail for $120 or so though.
If such a thing is coming, I would like to see a couple of the slightly more obscure games come to it, like Blast Corps (yes, I know it was a Rare game, I'm just saying what I would Like to see) and Body Harvest. I had almost all of the Nintendo classics, and even have updated versions of some of them (I'm looking at you Zelda 64s).
But the biggest problem I see is the controllers. The N64 could take 4 controllers, which many games taking full advantage of this. It needs to allow for 4 controllers, even if it doesn't actually come with a full set.
Anyway, it'll be a long time before we'll see this materialize, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Or they could just localize the ique, it had a better controller.
I was lucky enough to have income when the N64 arrived, my collection would likely contain anything Nintendo adds.
Success for this would be 4 controller ports. The N64 is best with friends.
Well you gotta be realistic, so with exception to DK64 (and maybe Diddy Kong Racing), none of the great Rare games would make it. With the SNES classic being 20 (sorry 21 games), I'm guessing the N64 would be about 15 to 20 games at most. I think this would be the shortlist of games to choose from:
1. Bomberman Hero (maybe one of the other 2 Bomberman titles, but a Bomberman title)
2. Diddy Kong Racing
3. Donkey Kong 64
4. Dr. Mario 64
5. Excitebike 64
6. F-Zero X
7. Harvest Moon 64
8. Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
9. Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
10. Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask
11. Mario Golf
12. Mario Kart 64
13. Mario Party 2
14. Mario Tennis
15. Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber
16. Paper Mario
17. Pilotwings 64
18. Pokemon Puzzle League
19. Pokemon Snap
20. Pokemon Stadium 2
21. Sin & Punishment
22. Star Fox 64
23. Super Mario 64
24. Super Smash Bros.
25. Wave Race 64
26. Yoshi's Story
@ThanosReXXX fail on my part, editting now.
I guess this means no virtual console for Switch. We have to buy a mini system to clutter up our TV stand. Yikes!
@ThanosReXXX
Yeah can see that happening, but I wouldn't want to mod it as I reckon the minis will likely be collectors items in the not-too-distant future... I think if they don't somehow get the rare games on there then it'd be a massive shame as the rare games really did represent a massive chunk of the best games on that system!
Now all we need is a Wii Classic.
Wait...
Virtual Boy classic next, you'll need a small head though or narrow gap between your eyes.
Meh, I actively collect for the N64 actually, so I don't really need it.
My Wish List:
Banjo-Kazooie
Beetle Adventure Racing
Conker's Bad Fur Day
GoldenEye
Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness
Wave Race 64
Can we get a patched Space Silicon Valley as another miracle Nintendo?
Does this actually challenge all those 3rd controller makers?
It might not have had the best library of games but I would still take one.
Ignoring what may not be possible and the fact this is probably too long of a list, these would be my picks:
SM64
SF64
Pilotwings 64
Blast Corps
Rogue Squadron
Battle For Naboo
MK64
Diddy Kong Racing
Bomberman 64
Smash
One of the Army Men games, not sure which...
Sin & Punishment
Banjo Kazooie
Banjo Tooie
Some Mario Party
1080 Snowboarding
DK64
Excite Bike 64
Gauntlet Legends
GoldenEye
Perfect Dark
Jet Force Gemini
Zelda: OoT
Star Wars: Racer
I will physically assault someone in the spirit of obtaining an N64 mini.
If Body Harvest is one of the games on it I just might use a weapon.
N64 Mini Classic - Bundled with 2 Controllers + the following games:
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Super Mario 64
Star Fox 64
Paper Mario
Donkey Kong 64
GoldenEye
Diddy Kong Racing
Mario Kart 64
Banjo-Kazooie
Banjo-Tooie
Mario Party
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Wave Race 64
Dr. Mario 64
Excitebike 64
F-Zero X
Harvest Moon 64
Super Smash Bros.
Yoshi's Story
So... here's my question: Is this for the EXACT same N64 controller, with an accessory port in the back? Cos if so, this thing better come with a Rumble Pak!
I hope this is true. Although to would need to have 4 controllers which might be costly. Hopefully someone bangs some heads together to get the Rare Games, after all, this is not a Console competing with Sony and Microsoft, it is a limited edition novelty.
Hoping Pilotwing 64 will be on there
@DragonEleven I like them, because then you don't have to keep re-buying the games. You always have them, and you don't need to have them on a separate next-gen console. If anything I'd prefer it to come with the mini console AND download codes.
@Alikan No worries, was just pulling your leg a bit.
@Drommajin make it Mario Party 3, and add Kirby 64, Dr. Mario and that's a great list.
@Kingkon15 Well, the NES mod seems to work perfectly, with menu and even game cover images included and all, so I see no reason why it wouldn't work as good with the SNES and/or the N64 Mini.
But having said that, I can definitely understand wanting to keep it in its original state. I'll probably won't bother hacking it either, but I just added that comment for those that would want more options.
@jcomx Dr. Mario 64 is in it already, Kirby I don't really care and any Mario Party will do for me.
You know... i didn't care for the NES or SNES mini, but N64 mini gets my attention that's for sure. If this will be true I will get 2 lol
Not sure if I'll buy it or not, but I'd like to see Turok Dinosaur Hunter on it if I do. My college roommate and I would play that through the night instead of doing homework. Good memories.
@gatorboi352 can you see rockstar allowing body harvest to be on it?, I can't.
Shadowman, please.
@ThanosReXXX Decent list, but I would bet money that Mario Party is also on that list. It would most likely be Mario Party 2, but I wouldn't be surprised to see 1 and 3. I also would think that Donkey Kong 64 would be on this list. Also Cruis'n USA would definitely be on the console. Just look at titles released on the Wii VC to get an idea of what titles would likely be included that Nintendo has copyrights to. I would love to see some RARE games on the console, especially Goldeneye. If Nintendo, Microsoft, Danjaq, and maybe now TellTale games can come to an agreement I would be beyond excited.
Regardless I would love to see this come out and will buy one day one (providing I can get a preorder in of course).
They sold for full price n64 remakes on 3ds so i don't think this will happen anytime soon. I would prefere GC classic anyway, never was fan of n64.
Unlike the SNES mini, there would actually be a bunch of games that I do not or have not owned.
Clearly Goldeneye would be my number one. I think Microsoft would allow it, they put Minecraft on PS4 and Nintendo. I think the movie liscenses are the real problem there. Also, ocarina and Mario kart 64, star fox 64. That's about it off the top of my head.
If Sega did a Saturn mini and a Dreamcast mini. I would buy those immediately. Instabought.
Blast Corps
Mario 64
Zelda OOT
Zelda Majora's Mask
Mortal Kombat 4
Mario Kart 64
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Tetrisphere
Turok
Starfox 64
Animal Forest
Bangai-O
Hydro Thunder
Banjo Kazooie
Diddy Kong Racing
Doshin The Giant
Mother 3 Prototype
Killer Instinct
Bust-a-Move 4
Wave Race
Pilotwings 64
Mario Party
Mario Tennis
Mario Golf
Kirby 64
Cruisn' USA
San Francisco Rush
@Nico07 Yeah, those pre-orders are going to be all out war again. I failed with the NES Mini and was barely able to secure myself a pre-order for the SNES, so I don't expect any N64 pre-order "festivities" to be any different, unfortunately...
And no argument on those other titles, but then again: I already mentioned that some titles in my list could be swapped out in my original comment...
But, even though I liked it, I personally don't think that Cruisin' USA was a stellar title, and the reviews back then weren't all that great either, so even though it's entertaining enough in its own right, I don't think it's a must-have title to showcase the N64.
What I did with my list after crossing off all Rare titles, is just take those top Nintendo titles that will most likely be on there. And all of them are good and most of them have had good reviews and well above good or high sales numbers.
@Kolzig Oh man, I definitely have to agree with that.
This would be the first one I'm actually interested in. Don't care much for NES or SNES games, most of them are either extremely primitive or just don't stand out anymore because their formulas have been done to death
@Nintendo_Thumb Another great, but way too long list. I'm expecting a lot of whining, moaning and backlash again if the N64 Mini is actually going to be made, because people are truly over-expecting what it is going to offer.
Realistically, it will at the most contain an equal amount of titles compared to the SNES Mini, but more than likely, it will contain less titles, so ultimately, if we DO get 20 titles, I think we should probably be pretty content with it...
I'd like ~30 games not on VC, but the problem I'm seeing is, most of the gems are properties of other companies. Rare, Konami, Ubisoft, Treasure, Midway, THQ, etc, might make Nintendo think with their wallet.
Would love it if they included a secret stash of games that never got released/finished, betas, and maybe a few 64DD demos...cough...Earthbound 64...
@retro_player_22 goldeneye was the best game on n64. Mario was great but 007 was the one i stayed up til 5am playing with mates in high school. For it to be omitted would be a disaster. This was re released on wii though is there is hope!
Yes please!
Question is, how are they going to do the controllers for it? Can't see them giving away 4 with each console. Then there's colours, will it just be the default grey or will there be a selection of fan fav colours?
Then there's that blister causing Control stick. Is that going to be close to the original or modified for the good of our hands?
As for games, I'm guessing 15-ish along with at least 1 surprise one like Starfox 2
Mario 64
OOT
Majora's Mask
Mario Kart
Smash Bros
Starfox 64
Pokemon Snap
Mario Party 2
Pokemon Puzzle League
Paper Mario
Bomberman 64
Orge Battle 64 (Only Square Enix owned game on the system)
Kirby 64
F Zero X
Sin and Punishment
And for the surprise game, I'm going with either
1. Goldeneye- Could be possible for Nintendo to ask the James Bond videogame license holder and franchiser holder if it would be okay, as well as Microsoft as a one off. Okay it hasnt aged well, but it was a HUGE part of the N64's history.
2. Pokemon Stadium 1+2- With added emulation link up to the 3DS versions of RBY and the upcoming GS. Might add to the cost of this system, but could be possibe a neat.
Do remember the 3rd party line up isnt great for the N64 (All Capcom could put on is Resident Evil 2 but I don't think Nintendo will want to slap an 18 age rating on it) and I doubt we'll see much if any Rareware on the system (Don't forget a lot of their N64 games are on the XBONE via Rare Replay). They own Donkey Kong so DK64 could be possible (Though I avoided it so not to flood it with too many platformers) but Diddy Kong Racing has Rare owned characters like Banjo and Conker. Could happen, but I doubt it.
Only thing about this (and I think it's probably inevitable the N64 Classic is coming) is if the NES Classic had 30 games, the SNES Classic has 20 (+1 bonus game in Star Fox 2) what will the N64 Classic have? 10 games? So which 10 N64 games would they choose? We can all easily rattle off our top 10 favorite N64 games but only problem is a lot of them are Rare games which are now owned by Microsoft. Unlike Donkey Kong Country which is a Nintendo-owned IP made by Rare, Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Killer Instinct, Jet Force Gemini, Conker, and others were Rare-owned, thus now Microsoft-owned. And GoldenEye, well that's a whole other can of worms with Activision now owning all the rights to Bond games - which is why it's not even on the Rare Replay game for the Xbox One.
Then when it comes to other properties such as Star Wars, WWE wrestling games etc, it's also messy getting around all the licensing issues so I'd bet none of them will be included either.
So assuming all those games are off limits, this would be my top 10:
1) Super Mario 64
2) Zelda: Ocarina of Time
3) Zelda: Majora's Mask
4) Mario Kart 64
5) Donkey Kong 64
6) Star Fox 64
7) Wave Race 64
8) Pilotwings 64
9) 1080 Snowboarding
10) F-Zero X
@ThanosReXXX Well seeing as Nintendo is putting Star Fox 2 in there does mean that Nintendo did care about their audience as that was one of the few games fans had wish Nintendo release before discontinuing the Super NES. I also think that the reason Nintendo is only releasing the SNES Mini just in 2017 is that they are launching NES & SNES titles as VC games next year so the few 30 NES and 20 SNES games could either launch or are plan titles for it next year. That means Star Fox 2 may find its way to VC at some point especially for those who couldn't get a SNES Mini in 2017. N64 support for VC may happen in 2019 after the launch of the N64 mini perhaps next year and GameCube titles if we're lucky may happen after that. I doubt the GameCube will have a plug and play though as those games are still too modern to count as retro. Nintendo may release GCN, Wii and Wii U titles as HD remastered too if they want, I'm still hoping for an HD Remastered of Fatal Frame IV.
@bolt05 I wouldn't mind seeing GoldenEye 007 either but after playing the ones on Wii and the HD systems, it would be hard to go back to the grainy one on the N64. N64 was likely the last Nintendo console I see to have a third party franchise series built within it as later Nintendo console started to lack that. Third party franchise like the Star Wars, Gex, Top Gear, Turok, and Duke Nukem series were great memorable franchise for the platform. Ever since the GameCube, no other third party has built a franchise from it, Resident Evil try but lose exclusivity, Viewtiful Joe was only there for two entries and Square Enix did next to nothing on GameCube other than Crystal Chronicles. Wii and Wii U are even worst, other than one or two entry of franchise like No More Heroes, Red Steel, and Bayonetta, the rest of the library are either just mini game compilations or license craps.
First let's see how they handle the snes classic. I really want to see Nintendo FINALLY produce enough stock (in all likelihood I'll probably see pigs fly before Nintendo actually meets demand for a popular product of theirs). Still I'd be down for a n64 classic. Hopefully it has 4 controller ports as well as allow for remappable controls. Definitely want to see smash bros on this thing
This could be potentially the best of the lot, the N64 is still the best console I've ever owned and with the advantages of HDMI and a pit more pressing power we can have much clearer images then we've ever had. So many classics with Mario 64 still one of the best 3D platformers ever and Ocarina possibly the best game ever made. The only downside being we will miss out on the likes of Goldeneye, Banjo, Conker and likely Diddy Kong Racing but there is still more there to work with
Perfect Dark my main one. I'd love to see Conker's Bad Fur Day - since it was difficult to find at the time. Otherwise, obviously the classis like Mario, Pilot Wings, Wave Race and F-Zero. I'd love ISS 2000 - the best version of the series - Shadows of the Empire and Rogue Squadron. Goldeneye is an obvious inclusion too.
Id just rather have the virtual console on my switch than all these mini consoles...
Why do they think it's N64 mini? There was a Switch controller icon found in that bunch and there's icons for the already released NES and upcoming SNES mini. They look more like icons for Switch VC.
If it is for Switch VC, what hope is there for free or reduced price to transfer the Wii U / 3DS content over ? We've got 3 hopes
@retro_player_22 When I talked about them not really caring, I meant the limited numbers they keep bringing out, which assures that well over half of the real Nintendo fans will never get their hands on any Mini. I myself also missed out on the NES and barely managed to secure a SNES Mini, so that's my point.
And them putting Star Fox 2 on it has nothing to do with being for the fans. It is simply a marketing ploy, because it creates hype. That it also happens to please the fans, that's just an incidental bonus. You're connecting the wrong dots.
I do think that it will come to VC some day, though that too, will be a commercial decision, so also not to please the fans. If that were true, then we would have had a lot more titles that we actually wanted in the past as well, which we didn't.
And besides that, let's see if there's actually going to be any VC in the first place, because if there is, they're certainly being awfully quiet about it.
As for that GameCube Mini, you could have a point there, although ISOs could be just as easily loaded from a flash ROM chip as game ROMs, so there wouldn't be much difference in that, and it certainly IS old enough to count as a retro system, certainly by the time any Mini based on it could potentially be released, which could be 2019/2020.
@Luffymcduck Awesome point, with emulation it could be possible to have F-Zero X with the 64DD content translated to English.
It better have smash bros
This would be amazing!! NES Mini? Nah, SNES Mini? Maybe, but I would buy this thing in a heartbeat!
@Masticore Yeah, I'm with you on that one, Rare made better games than Nintendo when the N64 was out.
Since not many N64 games come out on Virtual Console I'm a bit skeptical. Think I would be disappointed too with the games on offer as I doubt the Rare games would be released on it. Also, the N64 controller is really not that comfy now days.
I reckon it could get released next Easter or April, I just hope like others have said it features games from Rare. The Snes mini will have D.K.C so thats a good sign....
