@Gridatttack I REALLY wanted to say Xenoblade Chronicles X because I, personally, enjoy it more than Splatoon, but in terms of overall impact on the console and creative, quality gamemaking, I had to say Splatoon.
I'm a fan of Shin Megami Tensei and a fanatic for Fire Emblem, so I'll definitely pick this one up at launch, but I must admit, this doesn't fill me with hype. I was hoping for more Fire Emblem rather than whatever this sounds like it will end up being.
I'm just glad it didn't get cancelled, though, given how long a drought it was with any information about it.
It doesn't surprise me at all, and it's a little disappointing, but really, it doesn't matter that much, I don't think. We all know Nintendo is just waiting until it's time to release the NX (please, for the love of god, wait until 2017 and don't pull a Sega Saturn) because the Wii U will never be a big hit. In the meantime, though, we've got an AMAZING RPG that will keep all of us busy for dozens and dozens if not a couple hundred of hours.
Don't get me wrong - as a huge Nintendo fan, I'm always disappointed when their products don't sell as well as the quality deserves, but that's just the Wii U's lot in life, I'm afraid; all we can do is continue to love it and support it as best we can until its successor emerges.
Digital Foundry is worse than IGN about graphical obsession. Framerate is away more important than resolution IMO, especially for games like this. It still looks gorgeous to me, and it runs super smoothly. With a game based entirely on speed, I'd GLADLY take a smooth, high framerate over resolution. It's still HD, and that's all that matters to me.
@beazlen1 For real. I was going to pick it up. Not anymore. That's literally the Wii U's biggest selling point and what makes it stand out from the crowd. I mean, heck, Stone Shire - the worst Minecraft clone I've seen yet - even used the gamepad for more than just screen mirroring.
I don't think we Nintendo fans have anything to worry about. Even if the NX isn't everything we want it to be, it'll be a solid platform. Sales or not, the Wii U is a solid platform, and I doubt many of us here who have one regret that purchase. It would be nice to see a return to more traditional gaming and leave the rather tainted Wii name behind (although I absolutely love my Wii and my Wii U), though, and I certainly hope the NX is as different from the Wii U as the Gamecube was from the Nintendo 64.
@SuperWiiU Same here. They may do a physical release if it sells well (that's what Shovel Knight, Duck Tales Remastered, and Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams did), but until then, I'll be downloading. =D
I'm a HUGE Mario Tennis fan, so I had this one pre-ordered and picked it up Friday, but I definitely agree that this is the weakest entry in the series. It's a lot of fun, especially playing doubles online with a friend, but this needed either a lot more content or a $30 price tag IMO. Hopefully they will add content with updates like they do with Splatoon or with DLC like with Smash, but as has been said, I doubt they will for this game.
Geeze you guys, my super awesome totally fantastic game series just won't work on the Xbox 360. It's really not that much more power than the Atari 2600. Stop kidding yourselves.
That's complete crap. Your incompetence is not a console's weakness. If the Wii U can run Xenoblade Chronicles X smoothly, then it can handle the next frigging Binding of Isaac.
Their lackluster support early on was part of why the console has such a small install base. I understand why they don't do much NOW, but they bailed way too early, and besides, if you promise full support, you ought to deliver. Even in the business world, you shouldn't make promises if you don't intend to keep them.
Am I the only one who's excited for the new Mario Tennis?
Also, they really did themselves a disservice by not releasing Xenoblade Chronicles on the eShop a month or two before the release of Xenoblade Chronicles X.
The 16-bit war was amazing. The past two generations' "console war" is pretty much the equivalent of high school girls screaming at each other and then pulling hair out.
The Wii U is like any relationship with a boyfriend or girlfriend; it's not perfect, but it's beautiful and wonderful in its own, unique way, and we (most of us, anyway) wouldn't trade that for the world. We love Nintendo not because it's an Xbox with Mario or a Playstation with Zelda but specifically because it ISN'T a Playstation or an Xbox. That's not to say that there's anything wrong with those - I absolutely adore my PS4 - but Nintendo consistently provides something different from the rest, and that's why we love them. In that respect, the Wii U is the perfect console for this generation and fits right at home with Nintendo's past consoles.
I think it's a mistake to be hung up on thinking of the NX as the same generation as the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Nintendo's new console will be a 9th generation console in my book. If they're not officially announcing the NX until 2016, then I'm 90% sure that it won't launch until 2017, and that will give it a launch 5 years after the Wii U's launch - EXACTLY on par with Nintendo's consoles. They all, at least from a North American standpoint, had either 5 or 6 year generations.
It's nice to see a game reviewed on its own merits and not in the context of the "norm" interests. Most gamers probably wouldn't have any interest in this kind of game, but that doesn't mean the game itself is garbage. Thanks for being fair in your ratings, NintendoLife; it's why you're my go-to source for news and reviews.
Since the Wii version is only being included in the first print of the game, I picked it up for that since it will probably be a collectible in a few years (even if it's not that great). I've also read, as has been mentioned in previous comments here, that the Wii version controls much better. I haven't played either yet - Fallout is still consuming my life - but I'll eventually play both to compare. It's a steep price for what seems like a mediocre game, but it's cool to have a new Wii title in 2015, so I picked up a copy.
I suppose I'm a little disappointed because I like making super inappropriate characters (my Dead Rising 3 character ALWAYS wore a banana hammock and my Saints Row 3 character was ALWAYS naked), but really, this doesn't matter. The game will still be just as fun. Cosmetic changes are just that - purely cosmetic. If they cut out weapons or enemies, that would be different.
People need to have more faith in Nintendo, and I mean consumers as well as investors. What they make may not always be amazing, but it's always good. I may not like everything Nintendo's produced, but (with the exception of the Virtual Boy), it's always been good quality. I suspect Miitomo will be the same; I may not like it personally, but it'll be well-made.
Even if he doesn't understand the mechanics of game making, suggestions are how companies improve. It's ALWAYS a good idea to make suggestions; you never know when your suggestion might inspire a fantastic addition or improvement.
Like I did with Slender last week, I'll be downloading Octodad just to support its Wii U release. I've already got it on my PS4 and Vita, but I'm about to have it for Wii U, as well! =P
I think 7 is fair. It's not an amazing game, but it's a good one, especially for the price. I played it on Steam originally and then again on Wii U when it came out on the eShop. It's definitely worth a download.
@AyeHaley That's entirely the reason I downloaded it. I've probably spent a grand total of five minutes playing it, but you know what? It's so entertaining to show friends with the smexy Mandeer that it's totally worth the price in my opinion.
Now this is a pretty decent week IMO. I'm SUPER excited for Fatal Frame, I'm excited for Triforce Heroes, I'm going to download (just for the lulz) the Mandeer shenanigans, and I'm going to download Slender since it's so great on Steam. Finally, a week for which I can get excited!
I played it on Steam, and I REALLY enjoyed it. I'll definitely give it a download when I get home to support the developers' porting it to the underappreciated Wii U.
They need to hold off until 2017. Nintendo's consoles have always had 5 or 6 year lifespans. I'm certainly not expecting 6 years out of the Wii U, but I think it would be a disservice to those of us who have adopted the console to break precedent and have a short 4 year span.
Nintendo also has GOT to play ball at least somewhat on the hardware front. They don't have to release a juggernaut to destroy Sony and Microsoft's successors, but it needs to be beefier than the Xbox One and PS4, and not by the margins that the Wii U is stronger than the PS3 and 360. The NX needs to be a 9th generation console, not a stronger 8th generation console. Atari already tried that with the 2600 and the 5200; we don't need a repeat of that.
I just downloaded this the other day since it's on sale, and while the loading times are definitely still an issue, I haven't encountered any bugs yet. That being said, though, I'm only 4 or 5 hours into the game. It is, however, FANTASTIC. Totally worth $15 (or, what I paid on the sale, $5).
I think that they absolutely deserve the same right to petition for better working conditions just like anyone else. I'm not sure about deserving more pay (I don't know the average salaries), but voice acting is very demanding work; I think they definitely deserve better conditions, at least knowing the content of the script before committing.
