Here we are once again, North American gamers, with the Nintendo Download Update. This week seems like another good 'un, with the final batch of Super Smash Bros. DLC, a corking Wii download from Capcom, some highly promising download-only games and some discounts. Phew, let's get to the details.
Missed the European Nintendo Download Update earlier this week? No need to let out a blood-curdling scream of horror, just read the details right here.
Wii U eShop
Shütshimi (Choice Provisions, $9.99) - A shoot 'em up in a WarioWare style with extremely short levels and plenty of chaos on screen, this also has co-op and GamePad off-TV play. It's a colourful and bonkers creation from developer Neon Deity Games, and we'll bring you a review soon.
FreezeME (RNC, $9.99) - A 3D platformer that cites N64 titles as an inspiration and with some elements strongly reminiscent of Super Mario Galaxy, this includes a mechanic for freezing items that utilises the GamePad screen or Wii Remote pointer. It looks rather slick and full of promise, so we'll leap into a review. In the meantime you can check out our recent interview with the developer.
PEG SOLITAIRE (RCMADIAX, $1.49) - The latest budget offering from RCMADIAX, this time around it's a recreation of the classic puzzle challenge (which was even adopted on DSiWare in the past). You try to clear as many pegs as possible, and we'll do just that to bring you a review.
Wii U Virtual Console
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (Capcom, $19.99) - A terrific version of a classic game, with pointer controls and occasional waggle that are actually fun to use, along with the inclusion of the Ada Wong 'Separate Ways' sub-campaign. We absolutely loved this one in our original Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition review.

@RCMADIAX
DEFINITELY downloading the Smash DLC when I get home, and I'm gonna check out the aforementioned super-sale.
I noticed in the smash bros dlc list you have some of the prices listed in Euro's instead of Dollars....
Glad to see NA finally getting the games that have been available already in other regions. (/Forever playing catch-up)
Another week, and another pass on my end. $20 for RE4 is offensive, esp. considering is one of the most ugly version of the game, Wiimote or not.
Is that all for the 3ds?? Is there a way to check the eshop online without the console?
I got Bayonetta and her stage last night, so I voted Shütshimi. Been waiting on that one for quite a while.
@RCMADIAX Ah ok, will add those shortly, thanks.
@RCMADIAX cool
Nothing for me. Still playing Paper Jam anyways
Getting Bayonetta DLC, probably FreezeMe and definitely the Project Mirai DX theme. I am so in love with that game.
Would it kill NOA to add more than one VC game a week? Wii game is not VC you can play the Wii disc right off Wii U.
Nice to see this up early, it's usually closer to noon. (I know that's NOAs doing, not a dig at NL.)
I'm definitely going to try and pick up FreezeMe at some point.
resident evil 4 is amazing and I don't even like those kind of games!
I voted for "nothing". While Resident Evil 4 is one of my favorite games, I usually don't replay games and I'm not sure I want to spend $20 to buy it. Also, I want the new Smash characters but we have not really played Smash in a couple of months and I think I would be wasting money on something that I might not play.
Only Smash Bros DLC for me this week.
Corrin, and that's probably it, until Smash NX comes (if it exists).
Getting FreezeME as soon as I get home. It will make quite a nice companion to Xenoblade X in my upcoming long weekend.
Just the Smash dlcs later on. Unable to break away from playing a certain game right now to try others.
Shutshimi looks pretty chaotic, and I just started playing a bunch of shmups, starting with Ironclad. I'll grab that.
I haven't purchased anything Nintendo related since Mario Maker. Looks like the streak continues.
Picked up the Smash DLC, but that's probably it for this week.
Smash DLC for me! As for Alphadia, IIRC it's the first game in the series. Alphadia Genesis was a prequel, the third game in the series. Please hurry on the FreezeME review. It sounds promising, but I need your review before I decide whether to buy or not.
Wait is the smash DLC Wii U only this time? I don't see it listed for 3DS.
@ShadJV it says "both platforms" every time
@russellohh why's it only listed under Wii U DLC then? That's confusing.
Is there a week that goes by when @RCMADIAX shovelware isn't on sale?
@ShadJV listing it several times when it already says "$3 for wii u, $6 for both wii u and 3DS" many times over would be a bit much.
@Don
Yeah that was very disappointing to me too. I have the disc still. I agree that Wii games should not be considered VC.
I wouldn't mind trying that Resident evil 4. I was never a big fan of Resident Evil but I really enjoyed Revelations. I never played RE4. Had almost picked it up back in the day.
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition - this sends shivers down my spine. One of my true candidates for GOAT game. Perfect game, perfect controls, heaven.
Got the Smash DLC last night, Corrin is great :3
@dumedum ikr? This is one of the finest games out there, simply (almost) perfect.
Nope! What a sad sick joke.
Time to stop even paying attention.
Hands down. Favorite game ever. There is just so much game play, with all the mercenary missions and more.
@Freeon-Leon @dumedum I'm in with you guys. Anybody who doesn't have a hard copy of this masterpiece needs to download the eShop version a.s.a.p.
Hardly any 3DS eshop discounts. Weird.
I think I'll pick up either Don't Crash or Color Bombs, maybe both if I can find enough money.
Freeze Me sounds interesting, as does the Alphedia game (30+ hours for $9.99, nice), but will wait on reviews.
Resident Evil 4... I will never forget playing that for the first time on GameCube. Unbelievable. The Wii Edition is even better
RE 4 nice addition. Now they need to add Silent Hill Shattered Memories and both Umbrella and Darkside chronicles to the e-shop
Nothing for the moment, although I do plan on picking up FreezeMe at some point. Haven't paid for Smash DLC yet, and don't plan on starting now. If nothing else, it'd make that version of Smash coming to the NX that likely has all the DLC more attractive when I eventually got an NX.
If Nintendo ever wonders why 3DS sales are down, maybe they should check out their weekly updates. The 3DS update is not even pathetic anymore. Its Nintendo slapping 3DS owners in the face while spitting in their food and hitting them in the groin with a baseball bat.
Come on Nintendo, give 3DS owners something. You have a good number of NES games that aren't on the service. Why not start there?
Pretty sure Alphadia on 3DS is a port of one of the older games. Will be fun to see Nintendo only gamers pay $10 for a game I got for 99 cents.
BTW, NoA has just quietly and randomly thrown some New 3DS faceplates on their online store
Another boring week aside from Smash. :/
I like the idea of Ascent of Kings being half a dollar off, just to say that it's on sale.
This guy knows how to play it. I like his games too. They're wonderfully unassuming.
@AVahne I saw, those EU New 3DS ambassador faceplates from early last year are no longer exclusive to those ambassadors. These ones:
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/01/new_nintendo_3dsnambassador_edition_promotion_is_suddenly_available_to_more_club_nintendo_members
Got collection 6 for both versions!
I'd passed on Tales of Zestiria when it released (though I did get SAO Lost Song day 1..) so getting it for half price was a steal (still 50 at retail).
Unfortunately, that's all I have to spend on games after Neptunia VII.
Freeze Me looks great in person (based off a demo unit I saw a few months back), very DK 64 meets Wind Waker.
It has me excited for the new Ratchet and Clank
Just the Typoman demo for me this week. Not a bad Wii U week, but as for 3DS? Disappointing.
picked up the Smash DLC (smash took over the most played game on my system this morning), 3DS selection once again really poor and I'm good with the one Miku theme I've already got.
@Windy RE4 is the place you should start and finish with. Hands down the best of the series. That game was ahead of its time. I'm sure it's in my top 10 all time list and that's a crowded list for me.
Oh, our poor 3DS. Nintendo can't even muster a decent Virtual Console port for it these days.
@ricklongo I was thinking the same thing. I've played every day for more than a month and it feels like I haven't made a dent in the damn game. I need something smaller (which is every other game, quite frankly) and more manageable (ditto) to mix things up a bit.
Already got all the final Smash Bros. DLC.
Will probably pick up the Typoman demo, too.
One day FreezeME wasn't even ready, next it's a surprise heading to the eShop, and then literally like 2-3 days later it's there LOL That was fast and strange.
Nothing for me that's ok. I'm still finishing Stella and it's a good one.
Just the two Smash characters for me this week. I've enjoyed all the DLC fighters so far but they've been more of a "play for fun" type of thing. Yet with Bayonetta, I could actually see myself using her long term. She has a fascinating move set and I did surprisingly well while practicing.
If anyone ever wants to play some 1v1 with new characters, let me know. Always up for it!
@Spoony_Tech If I keep my Wii-U I will pick it up. I've made an offer on Craigslist to trade my Wii-U for the NEW 3DS or 250.00 cash which includes the games I have. If I get no Offers I will pick up RE4. I only use it pretty much for Netflix and that's no good. Also to be honest I had been waiting for Xenoblade X and was excited for it. But I'm having a real hard time getting into it. I've played it about 15 hours so far and all I can think is that I'm having much more fun playing Final Fantasy Explorers on 3ds. Plus my opinion is the first Xenoblade was much more fun to me. I'm ready to part ways with Wii-U. If I don't get any offers for a couple weeks I will pick up RE4 since I've never played it maybe it will become my favorite Wii-U game.
Plus it has about 15 downloads from the Eshop on it. I wonder how I can work that out so a new owner can keep those games. When I got this Wii-U it's the Legend of Zelda edition. I reset the system and put in my own info and the Legend of Zelda Game went poof. It's gone.
I hereby grant the award: Worst Week Ever For 3ds Owners.
Smash DLC is way too expensive! 6 dollars for one character? I would love to play as Bayonetta but not at that price!
RE 4 seems like a ripoff when you can buy a new copy of the Wii Remake of RE 1 for $10.49 at Meijer and a used copy of RE 4 costs $9.99 at GameStop.
@Don thank you
Wow, this month has been pretty lame for 3ds...
So this week NOA's excuse for not puttin up ANY vc games for the Wii u is RE4. Now
If you've never played it then grab it immediately!! Having said that I can't get over how stubborn this company is!! As many have stated before, would it friggin kill them to put more than one classic a week up so we have a bit of a choice??? Ugh!! This drip feed crap going on for 2 1/2 years now!!! Jesus!! Unbelievable!!
What a joke. Sony keeps getting my money for old school PSP and PS1 games on my Vita. Barely touch my 3DS anymore. Seems Nintendo has forgotten what the VC is on there.
Nothing from nintendo that I want this week. Done own a retail copy of RE4 on Wii.
Also if anyone want's a retail Wii copy of RE4 Amazon has them brand new for $12.50.
@RCMADIAX Congrats, I will definitely pick one or two up.
Nothing.
@Garet_Jax me too. I added the other characters for variety, almost more to play against and in some cases for the stage that came with it. While expensive, I think the have added to the life of the game. But Bayonetta is really cool.
@Kiyata_Hamasaki no way, not even close. I know of two weeks last year where the 3DS got absolutely nothing except miniscule price drops on shovelware and a few good games. At least this week introduced one new game.
@Grumblevolcano
Yeah I saw those, too. Guess they made way too many.
@Spoony_Tech well I went and did it. I got an offer for the NEW 3DS for my Wii-U. She had just bought the NEW 3DS with XenoBlade Chronicles. I traded her my Wii-U with Zenoblade for her NEW 3DS and Zenoblade. So the Wii-U is gone which is ok cause I just hooked the Wii back up to my main TV so I can watch Netflix. That's really all I used the Wii-U for anyway. I love the NEW 3DS.
@Windy Glad you got what you wanted but that shouldn't stop you from finding a copy of RE4 for the Wii. It was the best version anyways being pointer controls. It really needs to be played by everyone!
I will. Last night I went through the ending of Last Story. I'm so glad that save file was still there. Last story has an incredible ending. Next time I see RE4 I will pick it up. GameStop started selling classic games again.
