Re: Apple Just Announced Its Own Wii, Almost A Decade After Nintendo

ElkinFencer10

This going to be an actual console or a microconsole? Microconsoles have proven that they're not a commercially viable rival to actual consoles - just look at the Ouya, Gamestick, and Playstation TV. I've got all three of those, and while (except for the Gamestick), they have something interesting to offer, they'll never take down the home console market. I can't see this latest Apple product being any more successful in that.

Re: Shovel Knight amiibo Confirms "Evolving" Relationship With Indies, Says Nintendo

ElkinFencer10

I think co-op IS a big deal, and I think that they should have included that standard and made exclusive levels that get unlocked with the amiibo, BUT I don't think this is "evil money grubbing." Maybe not that I think of as ideal, but I think it's a fine deal, and I'm extremely excited about this.

I may have just glossed over something, so forgive me if I'm asking a question that's already been answered, but will it unlock anything exclusive to Wii U/3DS? I was pretty much sold on downloading this for Xbox One next payday because of the inclusion of Battletoads, but if there are awesome amiibo exclusive features, I'll totally jump back to Wii U for this game.

Re: Chasing Dead To Bring Horror And FPS Action To The Wii U eShop Soon

ElkinFencer10

Left 4 Dead, while not geared towards horror, definitely leaves me and my friends screaming like little girls when the zombies hoard around us even with guns and ammo. It's definitely way scarier with few or no weapons, but it can be done.

It looks to me like it will be a very mediocre game technically, but I'll give it a download. Technically mediocre games can still be AMAZINGLY fun; just look at the Onechanbara and Earth Defense Force series.

Re: Soapbox: It's A Tragedy That Rare Replay Isn't On A Nintendo Console

ElkinFencer10

@MrWarner14
This entire post is like a creed for my life. I hate emulators and refuse to use them for anything except fan-made hacks (Zelda Outlands and Super Mario Frustration, for example). They're dirty, they're unethical, and they just don't feel right. I don't get onto people as much if it's a game that you can't buy in a way that benefits the developers - a lot of Atari 2600 games, for example - but I still would rather dust off my 2600 and shell out the money on Amazon to have the actual cartridge any day.

Re: Soapbox: It's A Tragedy That Rare Replay Isn't On A Nintendo Console

ElkinFencer10

This is, for me, a reason to get the Xbox One. At least if you're not a PC guy and don't like emulators (I detest them). I have over half of these games on the original consoles, but it's nice to have them in one collection (not to mention that some games REALLY benefit from the upscaling and HDMI output; Banjo-Kazooie has never looked so good).

I'm a rabidly loyal Nintendo fan, but not to the point of only having one console per generation; today is a GREAT day to own an Xbox One, and I plan to play that console exclusively for the next several days at least.

Re: First Impressions: Trying to Believe in Devil's Third

ElkinFencer10

I'm still going to pick it up to give it a shot (and support what few mature titles the Wii U gets), but this is extremely disappointing. The problems, though, are not Wii U hardware; there are games that look just as good and better that run flawlessly. The problem is that the developers clearly don't know how to program well for Wii U and (I suspect) didn't work hard enough with Nintendo to resolve performance issues.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo NX Won't Be As Powerful As PlayStation 4

ElkinFencer10

I'm not convinced that NX, whatever it is, will be a traditional console. I think it'll be something that releases in addition to Nintendo's home console. Even with the woefully underpowered Wii, it was still significantly stronger than the strongest console of the previous generation (the Xbox), and the Wii U is significantly stronger than the strongest console of this past generation (PS3). Nintendo may have made the questionable decision not to play the hardware arms race game, but they've always at least surpassed the strongest of the past generation; they're not going to release a 9th gen console that's weaker than the PS4. Even by Nintendo's standards, that doesn't make a lick of sense.

Re: Review: Splatoon (Wii U)

ElkinFencer10

This game is fantastic. Trust me, even if you're not a big fan of shooters, you're missing out if you pass on this game. One of my friends described it as "the Mario Kart of shooters," and I think he was spot on. It's great fun.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo NX Could Use Google's Android Operating System

ElkinFencer10

Like most here, my initial reaction is DEAR GOD, NO, but like others have said, Nintendo never goes with the crowd; even if they did use an Android OS (which is find extremely unlikely but admit that it's possible), but would definitely do so on their own terms and in their own style.

@rjejr You're spot on with the Dreamcast Windows CE analogy; despite the Dreamcast's tragic fate, that was one of Sega's best decisions for the console since it made it so easy to port and develop games for it. Android can work for Nintendo's next console (which I'm still not convinced is what NX is), but I think they'd opt for a different OS if they were going to use a 3rd party's software (which, again, I find unlikely).

Re: Guide: Tips On How To Become A Squid Hotshot In Splatoon

ElkinFencer10

My hype for this game is overwhelming. Teaching today is going to SUCK since all I'll be able to think about is picking up Splatoon. =P

Does anyone know if Turf War is the only online game mode? I was only able to play the demo for about five minutes, so I haven't actually gotten to play around with it much.

Re: Deep Silver Parent Company Koch Media Trademarks Bloodstained, Will Most Likely Publish The Game

ElkinFencer10

@Yorumi
I asked a question. That's all. I didn't attack the publisher; I simply asked if the name is a coincidence or a tie to a parent company. If I "attacked" anyone, it was those two individuals, and if you'd like, yes, I can give a whole list of what they've actually done. I vote and buy with my conscience, and I think that David and Charles Koch are unethical in the way their political contributions affect legislation, so I don't want to use my money to support their corporation. I don't see why you're getting so upset.

Re: Interview: Nintendo of America's Damon Baker on the Brave New World of Humble Nindie Bundle

ElkinFencer10

@Sceptic
I think that's probably a LOT of it. It's also worth noting that Nintendo of America has traditionally been willing to take bigger risks and have more outlandish marketing ideas than Nintendo of Europe and especially the more conservative Nintendo of Japan. Granted, that dynamic has begun to shift over the years, but Nintendo is still a Japanese company, and Japanese businessmen (think their board of directors) are typically cautious and conservative about new marketing ideas.

Re: Exclusive: Slightly Mad Studio Head Ian Bell Sets The Record Straight On Project CARS Wii U

ElkinFencer10

@larry_koopa
I agree with you on just about everything you said for the most part; most games designed for PS4 and Xbox One shouldn't be expected to run on Wii U. My exception to that is when a game series has proven it works VERY well with the gamepad's gameplay - the Arkham series, Call of Duty, or the Warriors series, for example. I would like to see those games released for Wii U, even if they're graphically dumbed down, so to speak (think Call of Duty for Wii; watered down versions of those games weren't ideal, but they worked fine).

What DOES piss me off, however, is when a game is released on weaker hardware (PS3 and 360) or - as is the case here - has already been promised for Wii U (as has been said before, they put the Wii U's logo on the ads; that takes it from a "maybe" to a promise as far as I'm concerned).

Re: Exclusive: Slightly Mad Studio Head Ian Bell Sets The Record Straight On Project CARS Wii U

ElkinFencer10

forum user Godnimon - "And answer me, have you been overpromising with the WiiU version all this years? Because that is a fact that I´m definitley not ignoring."

Ian Bell - "Yes."

Even the head developer admits that he promised more than they're delivering. Regardless of any "maybe" they insist on, the guy in charge of the whole thing admits they promised a product they're not delivering. That's unethical business practice.

Re: Exclusive: Slightly Mad Studio Head Ian Bell Sets The Record Straight On Project CARS Wii U

ElkinFencer10

I'll repeat what I said yesterday - all of these indie developers should just say "We're releasing for PC, (in size 1 print) and maybe (back to regular font) Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, Atari Jaguar, Super Nintendo, Sega 32x, TurboGrafx-16, Sega SG-1000, 3DO, Apple Pippin, and NeoGeo Pocket Color." Clearly Slightly Mad has proven that as long as you claim you said "maybe," you can make whatever promises you want and break them whenever things get difficult.

Would it have been a stellar, blockbuster version on Wii U? Of course not. Neither were any of the Call of Duty releases on Wii, but all of those sold well enough and made a profit for Activision. The same would have been true of Project Cars. It would never have outsold the PS4, Xbox One, or PC versions, but I'd bet my left kidney they'd have made a profit.

Re: Capcom Is Bringing The Nintendo Exclusive Resident Evil Zero To Every Modern Gaming System But The Wii U

ElkinFencer10

@Caryslan
Very well said. I still love my Saturn. =P My only addition would be to note that there is a difference between the Gamecube and Wii U (aside from just the sales number themselves); Nintendo never lost money on the Gamecube (to the best of my knowledge; please correct me if I'm mistaken). The Wii U, as much as I love it and think it's a truly brilliant system, has been Nintendo's biggest failure because they, for the first time since the -shudder- Virtual Boy, have actually lost money on it (though they've turned that around, thank goodness).

I agree, though, and I was mostly joking with my "kick to the nuts" comment because your point was spot on and absolutely valid. It just hurts, as Nintendo fans, to acknowledge, though I am proud of most of this community for being willing to acknowledge Nintendo's failures; that puts us a step above Fanboy-Tier, I think.

Honestly, though, if you look at it objectively and long-term, it's not the worst thing for Nintendo not to have the same games as the other consoles. It's FAR from ideal, but try to look at the bright side, small though it may be - no one will ever accuse the Wii U of being the same as the Playstation or Xbox. Nintendo's consoles, for better or for worse, are the only consoles in the past two generations that have truly had their own personalities rather than the "Playstation360" sameness.

Re: Capcom Is Bringing The Nintendo Exclusive Resident Evil Zero To Every Modern Gaming System But The Wii U

ElkinFencer10

@Caryslan
I think you've got it right with everything overall balancing out. Also, just for the sake of being pedantic and trying to save any shred of the Wii U's dignity I can, it's technically sold a sliver more in 2.5 years than the Saturn did in 3 years. Splitting hairs, I know, and for all intents and purposes, it is exactly on par with the Saturn, but man, pointing that out is just a kick to the balls...Factually right, but low blow....=P

Re: Capcom Is Bringing The Nintendo Exclusive Resident Evil Zero To Every Modern Gaming System But The Wii U

ElkinFencer10

@Game-Over
For most gamers, this would be true, but for some of us long-time Nintendo customers (please forgive me if you're one of those; I'm not trying to make assumptions about anyone), it goes beyond just ability to play. I have a Wii, a Wii U, a PS3, a PS4, a 360, an Xbox One, a DS, a 3DS, a PSP, a PS Vita, and an extremely powerful gaming PC, for example; I'm not want for ways to play this, but I've been a Nintendo enthusiast since I was in Pre-K, and I remember when my PS2-owning friends were green with envy of me and my Gamecube for REmake and RE0 (I was one of the eight people on the planet who didn't have a PS2 when it was current).

So tl;dr, for most gamers, yeah, if you have a way to play it, you're happy, but Nintendo gamers tend to be a different breed of gamer who love the company and its consoles and get upset when a game releases for everything but a Nintendo product. You probably knew that already, as do most readers, but I'm in a soapbox mood; forgive me. =)

Re: Capcom Is Bringing The Nintendo Exclusive Resident Evil Zero To Every Modern Gaming System But The Wii U

ElkinFencer10

This pisses me off. I mean, I can't say I'm really surprised, but between Revelations 2 (the original was originally a Nintendo exclusive), the REmake (originally a Nintendo exclusive), and now this used-to-be Nintendo exclusive? It's infuriating.

I don't have a problem with games not being multi-platform - it's the lack of multi-platform releases that gave old systems their unique personality as opposed to the Playstation360 phenomenon we've seen for the past ten years - but when it's for literally everything EXCEPT Nintendo, that pisses me off. I understand the economics of it - hell, I TEACH economics for a living - but it still pisses me off on an emotional level.

Re: Project CARS Studio Boss Admits to Problems With Wii U Version, Hoping For Nintendo Hardware Announcement at E3

ElkinFencer10

This is not surprising, but it is complete and utter molletes con queso. If you promise a Wii U port on your Kickstarter, you find a way to deliver on that promise. Otherwise why not just promise Wii U, PS4, Xbox One, N64, Colecovision, Vectrex, TurboGrafx-16, Magnavox Odyssey 2, and Mattel HyperScan and just say "Oops, sorry guys, turns out we have no idea what we're doing. We're making it for PC instead." Part of the problem is Kickstarter, I think - find a way to enforce the fulfillment of these promises or force a refund to the backers - and part of the problem is developer ethics. I understand that it's sometimes harder than you anticipated to develop for a certain console, and I get that it gets really expensive, but if you promise a release on a platform, you are ethically bound to deliver on that. I realize that I'm an unusual idealist, but we as gamers really ought to DEMAND some basic level of ethics for our medium instead of allowing ourselves to be shafted and bent over by every "our bad" developer and "give me every penny you have and then some" publisher.

I have little interest in racing sims - kart racer master race - but I was planning to pick this up on Wii U to support the console and support developers willing to put a game on the Wii U. I now have zero interest in Project Cars; I'll just stick to Forza for my occasional racing sim fix.
