Re: Launching NX Next Year Is The "Proper" Thing To Do, Says Nintendo Boss Tatsumi Kimishima

ElkinFencer10

The more I think about it, the more I begin to see the potential wisdom for launching in March. Some people will be SUPER hyped (like me) and save money received as Christmas gifts to buy an NX at launch. For the rest of the market (the overwhelming majority), that will give a good seven or eight months before the holiday spending season starts for 2017 for Nintendo to show the world WHY they should buy an NX. After the Wii U, only hardcore Nintendo fans are going to be chomping at the bit to get this system; I think that allowing time to deliver a good, solid line-up and entice disillusioned players before the next holiday season is actually a good idea given the company's current situation.

It's at least a valid strategy even if it doesn't play out the way Kimishima-san hopes it will.

Re: Rumour: NX Software Lineup Will "Blow Away" Wii U, Controller Streaming Gimmick "Was Made Up"

I don't know if I buy the giga-hype about the line-up, but I definitely believe that the controller's gimmick won't be a screen. That drove up Wii U costs which limited the power of the hardware they could put in at that price point, both of which were the Wii U's downfall. I highly doubt they'd make that mistake again, especially since the new CEO is much more business minded than Iwata-san was.

Re: Talking Point: PS4K 'Neo', NX and Supplemental Computing Devices - Home Console Gaming May Be Changing

ElkinFencer10

I'm not sure it's fair to call the NX a second 8th gen console. Nintendo has always had a fairly regular release schedule for North America with consoles. The NES was around for 6 years before being replaced, the SNES 5 years, the N64 5 years, the Gamecube 5 years, and the Wii 6 years. When the NX launches this fall or early next year, it will given the Wii U a 4 or 4.5 year life span - shorter than the others, for sure, but still not as early as people are making it out to be. If nothing else, Nintendo does their own thing rather than just following market trends, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that they release consoles on their time, not the market's. I also think people overestimate the jump in visible performance that the "PS4K" will see as well as its impact on Sony's sales.

That being said, even if some of us who have been following the industry generation after generation see the NX as an early 9th gen console instead of a late/second 8th gen console, the average consumer will not see it that way, so Nintendo's going to have an uphill battle to convince consumers to adopt, especially after the Wii U. I hope they've got a masterpiece of a brilliant marketing strategy up their sleeves.

Re: Feature: Breaking Down the My Nintendo Loyalty Economy, Again

I think Club Nintendo was much better (even if the site was clunky and looked awful) because it rewarded physical downloads and didn't expire nearly as quickly (did those coins expire at all?).

The platinum coins are fantastic and work really well, but it's a bit of a slight, I think, not to reward gold coins for physical releases, though I understand why given that Nintendo makes less money on them. At the very least, however, I think they should give a reduced amount. For example, a standard retail download gets you 60 coins; award 30 coins for buying that game physically. That way we who like physical media are still being rewarded, but Nintendo's diminished profits are being reflected by diminished rewards.

The expiration time, though....That has got to go. I don't know what they were thinking by putting a six month limit on those gold coins, but that's GOT to change. Come on, Nintendo; you've always been the companies that's the best about rewarding your customers. While this is still better than Sony's and Microsoft's complete lack of any rewards program, that's still a pretty screwed up feature in my opinion.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Wants Us to Download More and Move On From Discs - Will It Work?

ElkinFencer10

The day that Nintendo goes digital-only is the day it moves to 2nd place in my focus. The only system I do digital-only is PC. For my other systems, I always get retail if I can, even if it means not getting the game on my preferred console. If it's only digital no matter what console, then sure, I'll download, but I'll be that crotchety old man clinging to physical releases until their last dying breath.

Re: Fire Emblem Fates

@Soren You can't have an opinion on a game if you haven't played it. You can criticize the settings, the characters, the story, and the concept of features, but the game itself? "Don't knock it til you try it."

Re: Rumour: Final Fantasy VII Remake And XV Headed To NX, Could Be Definitive Versions

ElkinFencer10

Only an idiot would think that the NX won't be more powerful than the PS4 and the Xbox One. The Wii was more powerful than the Xbox; the Wii U is more powerful than the PS3 or 360. Obviously the NX will be more powerful than the PS4 and Xbox One. It's a 9th gen console; of course it will be more powerful than 8th gen consoles.

As for the rumor, I think it's very likely that Final Fantasy VII will be on the NX. That's been my theory since Cloud was first announced for Super Smash Bros.

Re: Poll: Vote for Your Favourite Legend of Zelda Games - 30th Anniversary Edition

ElkinFencer10

I said Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Minish Cap. I know the first two are the ones EVERYONE says are the best, but honestly, those were my two favorite. For my last one, I was torn between Minish Cap, Wind Waker, and Skyward Sword. Minish Cap, though, man...that game blew my socks off when I played it. Definitely my favorite handheld Zelda (even with the 3DS port, I still consider Ocarina of Time to be a console entry).

Re: Analyst Firm DFC Believes a 2016 Nintendo NX Launch "Would Be a Mistake"

ElkinFencer10

I whole heartedly agree. To launch in 2016, giving the Wii U only a 4 year lifespan when Nintendo consoles have always have 5 or 6 year lifespans in North America, would harm confidence in Nintendo to support its consoles. That's a large part of what killed Sega - they killed consumer confidence. They need to tough it out another year and release the NX in the fall of 2017.

Re: Nintendo's Share Value is Hit Hard by Stock Market Panic

ElkinFencer10

As long as the drop isn't because of Nintendo's decisions, I don't think this will be a big long term issue. It may show a lack of faith in the overall market, but it doesn't indicate a lack of faith in Nintendo, and that's what's most important long term. The market will always fluctuate, but if faith in the Nintendo brand stays strong, there's nothing to worry about.
