@kevinm360 This is true. The Wii U and 3DS did have eShops and a Nintendo Selects range.
Maybe Switch games will eventually be brought back as budget titles after we get the Switch 2. π€
EDIT: However, Nintendo is in a much different business position with the Switch. The Wii U needed all the life support it could get. For example, the Wii U got Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii) for $20 on the eShop.
@rjejr Players Choice and Nintendo Selects were a way to bring back old games to the retail shelves. With the eShop, this is no longer needed.
However, they should give permanent discounts to some of their older titles on the eShop (e.g. Linkβs Awakening, ARMS, 1-2 Switch, Yoshiβs Crafted World, Mario Maker 2, Origami King).
The good news? Game Builder Garage was always $30. π
The old instruction manuals are part of the gaming experience that are missing from NSO. And a lost art. They should include scans that we can view and admire in full detail on our TVs.
As others have said, they should reduce the amount of plastic used. I think the size of a deck of cards, but thinner. Still large enough to not easily get lost. And large enough for some box art.
EDIT: Though, I do wonder if the larger cases make them harder to steal.
Speaking of manuals, I wish the NSO games included instruction manual scans. Or QR codes that linked to official scans (like they did for the NES and SNES mini consoles).
It is really nice that touchscreen support has been added. However, reviewers can only review what is in the game at launch. Most review scores wonβt reflect this update.
Similar thing when Nintendo released Mario Golf with announced expansions. Reviewers can note that DLC is coming, but can only review what is there at launch.

Re: Anniversary: HAL Laboratory Is 45 Years Old Today
I know the sequel was not developed by HAL, but it would be neat to see Balloon Kid added to the NSO Game Boy app.
Re: The Lego Game Boy May Be Reasonably Cheap If New Leak Is To Be Believed
It is just a render, but the buttons look a little too purple.
Re: Nike Has Gone Bananas With These Donkey Kong Country-Inspired Trainers
They should come with a red tie. π
Re: Random: This Fan-Made Render Has Us Dreaming Of Switch 2's Dual-Screen Potential
@Duncanballs Agreed. One theory is the dock will have some power to stream games to the TV with the Switch undocked. π€
The final evolution of the Wii U. π
Re: Random: This Fan-Made Render Has Us Dreaming Of Switch 2's Dual-Screen Potential
@LimitedPower @Anti-Matter Tomodachi Life 2 could also just be made for a single screen system. π
My daughter loves the original game. β€οΈ
Re: Random: This Fan-Made Render Has Us Dreaming Of Switch 2's Dual-Screen Potential
As the article acknowledges, it seems like a lot of weight for a USB port (even with the plastic supports).

Re: Game Vouchers Won't Work On Switch 2 Exclusives, Says Nintendo
Vouchers are a good deal, but a bit of a clunky system. Just simplify it by giving a discount on digital titles for NSO subscribers.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (15th February)
I forgot to vote for it, but I got the Tetris 99 DKC Returns theme last night.
Re: Hideki Kamiya Wants Nintendo To Reboot Virtual Console For Switch 2
@IOI Agreed! And NSO is missing Instruction manual scans.
EDIT: I would legit read way more instruction manuals on NSO than games actually played.
Re: Best Mario Sports Games Of All Time
I am ready for some Peach Pickleball! π―
Is Pickleball big in Japan (yet)?
Re: Nintendo Announces The First Tetris 99 Maximus Cup For 2025
The theme looks good. The background is dark enough to not blend in with the pieces. You can easily see the gaps with a quick glance.

Mario Day leaks. π

Nice! Already listening to it. π
I unironically want them to add Captain Lou Albano: β Do the Mario! Swing your arms from side to sideβ¦β.

Re: Nintendo Is Developing New Mobile Game Apps, Unsurprisingly
I like the Music app.
Re: Nintendo Announces The First Tetris 99 Maximus Cup For 2025
@Friendly This!
According to Wikipedia, Special Themes 1-10, 12, and 17 are the only past themes available for purchase with tickets.
DKC Returns will be the 37th special theme. Like you said, they should just make them all available. π―
People would also play it more in order to earn the tickets needed to get the themes that they missed.
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's GBA Library Next Week With Wario Land 4
I know people like it when lesser known games are added to NSO, but I am glad they are adding popular 1st party titles like this one.
Re: Japanese Charts: Donkey Kong Is Still The King Despite Diminishing Sales
@Coalescence Yup! DK 64 and DK β94. π
Re: Japanese Charts: Donkey Kong Is Still The King Despite Diminishing Sales
1. The Mario Movie
2. Mario vs DK
3. DKC Returns
4. DK section at Universal.
As others have said, all signs point to more DK games. π

Try before you buy. Much better for parents whose kids are curious about the game.

They have successfully released DKC Returns three times. Now they are free to release Yoshiβs Wooly World a 3rd time. π

@Znake Good points! They have released DKC Returns three times. Now they can release Yoshiβs Wooly World a 3rd time. π
I always thought Samus Returns and Link Between Worlds were the mostly likely 3DS games to get ported to Switch.
Re: Poll: With No Switch 2 News Until April, Is A February Nintendo Direct On The Cards?
I donβt think it will be announced, but one of the largest holes in the Switch library is the Disney Afternoon Collection. π’
Re: Poll: With No Switch 2 News Until April, Is A February Nintendo Direct On The Cards?
@konicstar Chibi-Robo! HD? A new Rhythm Heaven? Either of those would be the highlight of the Direct for me! π

Now for my frequent petition to get Donkey Kong β94 on the Game Boy app.
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's N64 Library With Namco Classic 'Ridge Racer 64'
A lot of N64 games havenβt aged well, but this one looks pretty good. π

Re: Talking Point: What Do We Actually Want From 'Mario Kart 9'?
@Gryffin Lego City Undercover is one of my favorite LEGO games. The story includes a lot of funny parodies.
There are several racing missions and challenges, but individual levels are played like more traditional LEGO games (platforming as a character).
Re: Talking Point: What Do We Actually Want From 'Mario Kart 9'?
Lego City Undercover is basically an open world racer with missions.
Re: Talking Point: What Do We Actually Want From 'Mario Kart 9'?
@Zaruboggan With all the Tour City tracks, I thought for sure we would have gotten a New Donk City track!
Re: Talking Point: What Do We Actually Want From 'Mario Kart 9'?
Like Heists and Story-Hub world, I would like to see a story mode with missions
Re: Poll: So, Were You Accepted For The Nintendo Switch 2 Hands-On Event?
@MrCarlos46 Yeah, should be non-transferable.

Great!
Music App update rate > NSO Console update rate π
We want it all, Nintendo! π

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (25th January)
Iβll be playing other games too, but I have had a lot of fun with Clubhouse Games recently. π
EDIT: Not sure how much exposure Cribbage has in Japan, but I wish Clubhouse Games had included Cribbage.
