Re: Soapbox: Donkey Konga Introduced Me To One Of My Favourite Songs Ever

Duffman92

"Let‘s Face It" really is a masterpiece! I know how the word gets overused a lot these days but it‘s hard to call it anything else. The live rendition of Rascal King that was included in the PS1 game Rogue Trip will forever be burnt into my braincells. When I discovered the whole album about 15 years later I was overwhelmed about how effing good it it is.

Re: Talking Point: What Are The Worst Parts Of Your Favourite Games?

Duffman92

Twilight Princess is one of my favorite Zelda games but one thing that p**ses me off is that last riddle before you get the Master Sword. It always breaks the pace for me and after the first or second playthrough I just looked it up online.

Second would be the original Wind Waker‘s last quest with the triforce shards. Why would you hide the necessary maps behind a friggin‘ paywall?

Re: Video: Where Does Mario Kart Go From Here?

Duffman92

It‘s a near perfect game with universal appeal. It is going to be very hard to top that. But as others have mentioned, they are probably going to take the Smash Bros. Ultimate route. I could also see them introduce a new gimmick with different coins and abilities. But they‘d have to keep some kind of basic mode to make it accessible for newcomers.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Most Difficult Mainline Mario Game?

Duffman92

Maybe I was at the height of my gaming skills back when SMG2 came out but I never thought that it would be too difficult.

Sunshine has a lot of frustrating aspects that kinda make it difficult. Like the watermelon. Or that venomous water and leaf level. Which you can only reach after spending a lifetime on that sh***y boat. God, I can see why I have no more nerves left at 30.

Re: New Super Mario 64 Speedrunning Technique Smashes Previous 120-Star World Record

The most interesting part to me was how managed to find this strategy. They let an AI tool replay the same passage with limited controls over and over again until it finds a humanly viable way. I think it simulated over a hundred years of playing within an hour.
Speedrunning has a lot of science going on and I think that‘s part of what makes it so interesting. Especially anything regarding Mario 64.

Re: Enchanted Portals Conjures Cuphead-Like 2D Platforming On Switch This September

My thoughts exactly @duffmmann

@Not_Soos
I‘m pretty sure the devs put a lot of honest work into it but can you really blame people for crapping on a game that looks flat out stolen? The creative director of this game must have just said: make it look and feel like Cuphead. They are basically cashing in on the huge amount of ground work that was laid by the Cuphead developers and that is simply a bit unfair. Why not take a different art style from later or even earlier cartoons? Why not add in different gameplay mechanics?
Maybe 15 to 20 years after Cuphead people would call something like this a nice callback to the original game but given that Cuphead is fairly recent this will go down as a shameless ripoff.

@PessitheMystic
Not so sure about Luigi‘s Mansion 3 anymore but didn‘t the dog take a minor role there? I agree though, Yoshi would be fine without Poochie like in the original Wooly World.
I guess it depends on how it‘s implemented. If it‘s not annoying or boring I‘d say it‘s ok but they really should come up with something else in the future. How about a friendly Boo in Luigi‘s Mansion? Or E. Gadd‘s son? You have a good point.

Re: Poll: Which Dormant Nintendo Franchise Would You Most Like To See Return?

Duffman92

Donkey Kong Country and Star Fox. Although I think with DK it‘s pretty hard to top Tropical Freeze since that game is arguably one of the best 2D-platformers ever made.

Star Fox needs to return in what imagine to be a fully fleshed-out Star Fox Assault. Assault had a great formula but it feels rather short. If I was a chief officer somewhere up there in the holy realm of Nintendo I‘d let a studio develop an Assault remake built with a new engine and then use that engine to make a new game in the future.
The Switch has a huge user-base and with that they were able to give new life to the Metroid-series. Maybe they could pull it off with Star Fox as well.

Re: Top 100 Best Nintendo Games Of All Time

Why do people keep saying that Metroid Prime 2 is too difficult when Metroid Dread is the one kicking your butt 24/7? The only thing that’s difficult in MP2 is the boost ball boss and maybe traversing the dark world before you have the dark suit.
