@Heavyarms55 Couldn‘t agree more, some people don‘t seem to see the hard work that went into creating the game. Myamoto and his team were pioneers for 3D-gaming and basically had to do anything from scratch. And in addition the game is still perfectly playable over twenty years later which just goes to show how much effort went into polishing it.
The high framerate looks so wrong on these old games. But cool stuff, I guess? Nothing anyone expected or asked for but if it helped him learn programming then that‘s a good thing.
"Remember Project Giant Robot?" I somehow had Project H.A.M.M.E.R. in my mind when reading this and then realized this one was 16 years ago. God, I feel old.
I‘m not really into GameBoy games anymore but if I were to spent over a 150 bucks I‘d get an Analogue Pocket instead. Yes, it‘s 50 bucks more but considering the quality of their products and the pocket having the same (or more) capabilities I‘d say that it‘s the better option.
That is quite admirable, really, but personally I couldn‘t see myself dedictaing a quarter of my life to something like that. Don’t get me wrong it sure is nice to have games in mint condition but I think something like a hundred would have done, too.
@GrailUK Honestly, they have to make it Waluigi as one final character. It‘d convince me buying SSBU‘s DLCs despite not having played it in at least one and a half years.
I don‘t know if anyone said this yet, but go get a Retrotink Mini instead. It‘s 79,99 dollars, does the same thing and is compatible with any other S-video or composite source. And it even comes with an S-video cable for the N64 compatible with PAL and NTSC regions.
Given that he has developed everything by himself it‘s fair to say the man‘s a legend. The first game was pretty damn good and for anyone loving Metroidvanias it‘s a must have in their collection.
I think the only serious competitor that Nintendo could have would be Apple. Everyone else just throws Processor and GPU power up the ass into those machines and they think that‘ll do the trick.
Luckily, some person uploaded a screenshot for each blue coin so I could make my own guide with powerpoint back then. I even bought an inoffical "guide" from ebay that simply copied a list from some cheat site (he had to give us a refund of course!) Back then you wouldn‘t have thousands of guides on Youtube. And even if there was one it would have probably taken forever and a day to load. Those were the days
Crash Bandicoot is 25 years old this year and would be a great addition.
But yeah, kinda sad he‘s not able to be part of the final decision. He basically created the series and didn‘t take care of his own health a few to get these games done.
I love stuff like this. It is so utterly absurd to me that it‘s comical!
I don‘t watch a lot of speedruns but the history of some world records is entertaining as hell. If you’re interested in the topic I highly recommend watching Summoning Salt and Karl Jobst on YouTube.
@JohnnyC They should do a package with Wooly World and Crafted World for Switch! Multiplayer needs some adjustment though, sometimes one player dies for stupid reasons.
Just reading the title had my head playing Goldfinger‘s Superman It really is as great as a remake gets, plays exactly like THPS 3 on PS2 and that is one heck of a classic.
I mean, Conker and Banjo also made their way to MS consoles through remakes. But as someone mentioned before, they probably triple check before they pour thousands of dollar into a project that they‘re not allowed to release.
How can anyone not see that this is a joke? "[...] Nintendo‘s CEO Doug Bowser personally traveled to Venezuela [...]" Yeah, I‘m pretty sure he‘s got Nothing better to do than that.
Super Mario World is definately the essential one when it comes to 2D Super Mario Bros.
NSMB DS will always be classic to me, the style was fresh, levels were fun and it pretty mich had no serious competition for portable games. Not to mention the mini games (which I know were already in SM64 DS but they were still a nice touch).
The Wii title was also pretty great, with a very memorable Bowser finale.
The original is a classic and a piece of gaming history. Gameplay wise it obviously has a lot of things that its sequels made better but it‘s still playable pretty well.
The WiiU title is considered to be the best of the "New" series although personally I wouldn‘t call it that. The Van Gogh Boo level was pretty great and it makes you feel like they could have made more in that direction. Otherwise, it feels kind of like a game that you have played before. They should have really changed the traditional desert, ice, beach, clouds worlds.
Gameboy titles really made for a good time too, with the second being the one I played more often.
3 was great but felt a bit short but that was probably also because of hardware limitations on the NES. Still looks amazing though and if I had played it as a child or teenager I‘d probably have a different opinion as well.
The Maker series is sadly really not my thing. I‘m not a good level designer and online levels lacked the refined design of the professionals for me. Though I‘m pretty sure there are amazing levels out there. Kind of difficult to rate it amongst the others because I would argue it‘s really not a traditional 2D mario game.
As for the rest I really can‘t say that much because I simply haven‘t played them. Maybe someday I‘ll give them a try.
Don‘t know how many times Mario bumped that coin block. And no one would know when that final series of jumps would happen... Yes, Wii Shop was mostly waiting but this tune made up for it ^^
@Christofu 100 agreed. And as someone who didn’t really understand speedrunning at first and thought it‘s just people messing around with the game I highly recommend watching Summoning Salt on YouTube. He really shows how there is a passionate community respectfully competing with each other.
Super was the first I played in the series and pretty much the only one. I‘d really like to play TTYD but I honestly don‘t wanna pay these high prices. Release it on the e-shop already, Nintendo, you‘ve got the emulator working for Sunshine so there’s no excuse in not giving us some more of the Cube‘s library.
I mean if there‘s anything like a right time to make a comeback then it‘s now. With Spyro and Crash returning with so much success it‘s hard to believe Banjo couldn‘t make a great comeback as well. Given that it‘s properly done of course.
Funny how video game dunkey implemented this in his "new strategy“. I‘ve never seen the appeal of it but I‘m generally not a big fan of games where you build stuff (e.g. Mario Maker).
