Couldn‘t agree more, some people don‘t seem to see the hard work that went into creating the game. Myamoto and his team were pioneers for 3D-gaming and basically had to do anything from scratch. And in addition the game is still perfectly playable over twenty years later which just goes to show how much effort went into polishing it.

Luckily, some person uploaded a screenshot for each blue coin so I could make my own guide with powerpoint back then. I even bought an inoffical "guide" from ebay that simply copied a list from some cheat site (he had to give us a refund of course!)
Back then you wouldn‘t have thousands of guides on Youtube. And even if there was one it would have probably taken forever and a day to load.

Re: Poll: What's The Best 2D Mario Game?

Super Mario World is definately the essential one when it comes to 2D Super Mario Bros.

NSMB DS will always be classic to me, the style was fresh, levels were fun and it pretty mich had no serious competition for portable games. Not to mention the mini games (which I know were already in SM64 DS but they were still a nice touch).

The Wii title was also pretty great, with a very memorable Bowser finale.

The original is a classic and a piece of gaming history. Gameplay wise it obviously has a lot of things that its sequels made better but it‘s still playable pretty well.

The WiiU title is considered to be the best of the "New" series although personally I wouldn‘t call it that. The Van Gogh Boo level was pretty great and it makes you feel like they could have made more in that direction. Otherwise, it feels kind of like a game that you have played before. They should have really changed the traditional desert, ice, beach, clouds worlds.

Gameboy titles really made for a good time too, with the second being the one I played more often.

3 was great but felt a bit short but that was probably also because of hardware limitations on the NES. Still looks amazing though and if I had played it as a child or teenager I‘d probably have a different opinion as well.

The Maker series is sadly really not my thing. I‘m not a good level designer and online levels lacked the refined design of the professionals for me. Though I‘m pretty sure there are amazing levels out there. Kind of difficult to rate it amongst the others because I would argue it‘s really not a traditional 2D mario game.

As for the rest I really can‘t say that much because I simply haven‘t played them. Maybe someday I‘ll give them a try.

If you‘ve made it till here: thanks for reading

100 agreed. And as someone who didn’t really understand speedrunning at first and thought it‘s just people messing around with the game I highly recommend watching Summoning Salt on YouTube. He really shows how there is a passionate community respectfully competing with each other.

Super was the first I played in the series and pretty much the only one. I‘d really like to play TTYD but I honestly don‘t wanna pay these high prices. Release it on the e-shop already, Nintendo, you‘ve got the emulator working for Sunshine so there’s no excuse in not giving us some more of the Cube‘s library.
